Paramount+ Renews Frasier for Season 2; Netflix Orders Series from Maid Showrunner
Paramount+ announced that its new original comedy series Frasier, starring Kelsey Grammer, has been renewed for a second season. Season one currently is available to stream exclusively on Paramount+. Produced by CBS Studios, season two of Frasier will continue to film in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. The series follows Frasier Crane (Grammer) in the next chapter of his life after he returns to Boston to face new challenges, forge new relationships and – with hope – finally fulfill an old dream or two.
In addition to Grammer, the series stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy, Frasier's son; Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, Frasie'ss old college buddy turned university professor; Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan's colleague and head of the university's psychology department; Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Freddy's roommate; and Anders Keith as David, Frasier's nephew. Season one featured guest appearances from original series cast, including Bebe Neuwirth and Peri Gilpin.
Netflix announced the new series, Sirens, a female-driven limited series from Emmy(R) nominated Maid writer/showunner Molly Smith Metzler, and executive produced by LuckyChap Entertainment. Devon thinks her sister Simone has a really creepy relationship with her new boss, the enigmatic socialite Michaela Kell. Michaela's cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it's time for an intervention. When Devon tracks her sister down to say WTF, she has no idea what a formidable opponent Michaela will be. Told over the course of one explosive weekend at The Kells' lavish beach estate, Sirens is an incisive, sexy, and darkly funny exploration of women, power, and class.
Sirens is the first series out of Metzler's creative partnership with Netflix and is based on her play Elemeno Pea, which she wrote at The Juilliard School. Smith and LuckyChap's previous series at Netflix, Maid, starring Margaret Qualley, spent 14 weeks in the Global Top 10 TV and reached the Top 10 TV in 93 countries. The Emmy, Golden Globe and Critics Choice-nominated series won the Writers Guild Award for Limited Series Writing/Adapted Long Form and an AFI Award.

Fox has tossed the ball to actor and comedian Jay Pharoah (SNL, The Blackening) to host its new game The Quiz with Balls. Pitting brains against balls, while combining a high-stakes quiz show with a large-scale physical competition, each episode of The Quiz with Balls features two families competing for $100,000 in a "battle of the balls." Standing on a high platform over a glistening pool, they must all work together as they face a multiple-choice quiz where each answer is allocated to a spot with a giant ball positioned up behind it. If the correct answer is chosen, the ball rolls down and stops just before colliding with the player... if the answer is wrong, the massive ball rapidly descends and mercilessly whacks them into the pool below. The more players each team loses, the harder the questions get. The longer they last, the more money they bank, until one "dry" family member plays the final round for The Quiz with Balls' $100,000 Grand Prize. The all-new series, executive produced by Talpa Studios and Eureka Productions, is set to premiere this Summer on Fox.

SitcomsOnline Digest: Bewitched Reboot in the Works; Paramount+ and Peacock in Merger Talks
Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we're hearing about a Bewitched reboot, a potential merger of two streaming services, and more. Let's get going!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- A Bewitched reboot (or maybe reimagining is the more appropriate description) is in the works, but we don't expect it to be much like the original sitcom at all. (TV Insider)
- Peacock and Paramount+ are rumored to be in merger talks. (Variety)
- The CW wants to compete with the other major broadcast networks, but is that even realistic when they're relying so much on recycling series from other countries? (Deadline)
- Although local broadcast syndication is not even close to being the powerhouse it was even ten years ago, The Conners is set for syndication in the fall. (Variety)
- The CW is working on a Scrabble game show, which may be successful but we don't think is going to be their big hit to compete with major networks. (Deadline)
- It should come as no surprise since it is basically one of the last successful survivors of broadcast network comedies, but ABC has renewed Abbott Elementary for another season. (SitcomsOnline)
WEEKLY PLANNER (FEBRUARY 17 - FEBRUARY 23)
- Catchy Comedy is having a "field day" this weekend, as they celebrate Sally Field's birthday with a binge of three of her sitcoms.

The show must go on! Now on Netflix. The members of the late '90s girl-group Girls5eva - Dawn, Wickie, Summer, and Gloria - have reunited and recorded a new album, Returnity, so it's time for the next logical step: a comeback tour. With no plan, tour manager, or venues secured, the ladies pile into a van and hit the great unknown, doing their damnedest to promote their album and get back on top. In the process, Girls5eva will grapple with life on the road, see their relationships tested, play a billionaire's birthday party, sow their oats, confront parents they believe held them back, cross paths with the biggest pop star on the planet, and question if they really want "the big time" again. Will Girls5eva fast-track their comeback and sell their tour documentary in the process? Or will the road destroy them? Girls5eva premieres March 14 on Netflix, with Seasons 1 & 2 plus a brand-new Season 3.

Stephen Amell has been cast in the NBC drama pilot Suits L.A. as Ted Black, a charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others. Ted is a former New York prosecutor who joined forces 15 years ago with his old buddy, Stuart Lane, to build an L.A. law firm that specializes in criminal and entertainment law. Stephen Amell most recently starred in the Starz critically acclaimed series Heels and will next be seen starring in the Netflix film Code: 8 Part II, which he also produced. He previously starred on the CW breakout hit Arrow, which launched what is now known as the Arrowverse.
In the pilot, Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can't help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved. Production: Scheduled to start in late March in Vancouver.
