Week 32 First Four Day Ratings; How the Sitcoms Did

Week 32 numbers (first four nights, Mon-Thu):

Households: CBS: 9.5/15.0; FOX 8.8/13.7; NBC: 6.4/10.1; ABC: 4.7/7.4; The WB: 2.4/3.7; UPN 1.8/2.8.
Total Viewers: CBS 14.65 million; FOX: 14.42 million; NBC: 9.61 million; ABC: 7.07 million; The WB: 3.53 million; UPN: 2.68 million.
Adults 18-49: FOX 5.9/15.5; CBS: 4.6/12.1; NBC: 3.6/9.5; ABC: 2.6/6.9; The WB: 1.5/3.9; UPN: 1.3/3.3.

Analysis: May sweeps started on Thursday, so we are down to the wire. Before Thursday it was very slow in the ratings, besides that Idol show and House. Fox again had a strong Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. 24 was first in its 9 p.m. timeslot with 13.03 million viewers (Two and a Half Men won the 9 p.m. half hour for CBS) and a strong 5.2 rating in A18-49. Prison Break before that was second place in A18-49 and total viewers. CBS's comedies were all new, except The King of Queens. Monday's highest rated show, CSI: Miami, was just that with 18.74 million, nearly doubling the next nearest program (Medium 9.76 million). ABC's What Abut Brian only could pull 5.38 million losing a lot of its Supernanny lead-in (which did 8.57 million). Tuesday was all Fox with American Idol & House, with 28.67 and 24.52 million viewers. House was up even more from last week. This could be the highest rated episode yet (also a stunning 9.9 A18-49 rating). CBS's dramas did well against them but everything else was anemic, like usual. ABC's Less Than Perfect was up from its season premiere by one million viewers, with 5.42 million. Wednesday it was a little better for the other networks but still Fox's Idol was too much for everyone with 28.27 million. Lost was not really airing, as a clip show aired that scored 11.95 million viewers, good for second in its slot. CBS's Criminal Minds was a repeat but like most of CBS's other crime dramas, they do well against AI. Deal or No Deal scored 15.24 million viewers for NBC to start the night. The mindless game show is their big hit of the season, more than My Name is Earl even (which is dropping each week). Thursday it was all CBS in a big way. CBS's Survivor easily won in total viewers and adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. CBS won the 9 and 10 p.m. hours with new episodes of CSI and Without a Trace scoring 27.36 and 17.93 million. Losing 10 million viewers from CSI is concerning for Without a Trace. Rumors that the show will be moving to another night are becoming more strong. NBC's comedies were all down big, especially My Name is Earl. Earl only scored 9.05 million viewers, down a lot from what it usually does for an original episode. Commander in Chief faced all original competion in its third week on Thursdays, and it wasn't too good, only doing 6.51 million...the aging ER did even 12.34 million . Friday saw CBS winning with its dramas and The Daytime Emmys did just average for ABC. Saturday saw decent numbers again for CBS. With old faithful 48 Hours Mystery doing a 5.6/11 rating to close the night. FOX will win the week in adults 18-49, but CBS will win in total viewers. Can ABC catch NBC after tonight? It'll be close. But it won't be close tonight as EM: Home Edition and DH, & GA are all-new!.

Monday Sitcoms

  • The King of Queens (CBS) - 7 million tuned in for a repeat. Down from last week's 7.25 million for a repeat.
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS) - New episode scored 7.6 million and 2.5 A18-49 rating. Can it survive without a good lead-in?
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS) - 14.47 million for an all-new episode. Easily the number one sitcom.
  • New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS) - 11.81 million tuned in, but this show was doing much better than that in its first few airings.
  • One on One (UPN), All of Us (UPN), Girlfriends (UPN), Half and Half (UPN) - All new and had usual numbers, peaking at 9 p.m. with over 3 million.

Tuesday Sitcoms

  • According to Jim (ABC) - Repeat only scored 4.11 million. Season finale is this week! Jim pregnant or is it a dream? Ah the power of male pregnancy.
  • Hope & Faith (ABC) 2 episodes - 2 all new episodes. 4 million at 8:30 and 5.6 million at 9 p.m. Final two episodes of the season (or series) will air this week.
  • Less than Perfect (ABC) - 5.42 million, much better than last week's 4.5 million. An episode will air next week before we have to wait until June for more new episodes.
  • Scrubs (NBC) 2 episodes - 3.08 million at 8:30 for a repeat is pathetic, but 6 million for a new show at 9 p.m. just beat ABC's competing comedy.
  • Teachers (NBC) - 4.7 million beat by the much better Less Than Perfect. But it did beat that comedy in A18-49 2.3 to 2.1.
Wednesday Sitcoms

Nothing!

Thursday Sitcoms

  • Will & Grace (NBC) - Winding down to the final episode. 7.58 million
  • That's 70s Show (FOX) 2 episodes - See above. 4.47 and 5.5 million for two all-new episodes.
  • My Name is Earl (NBC) 2 episodes - Repeat at 8:30 did 6.87 million. Regular 9pm airing jumped to 9.05 million, but that is way down from its average for a new episode. Only a 4.1 A18-49 rating too. The show usually does above a 5.0 A18-49 rating for new episodes.
  • The Office (NBC) - 7.85 million and a 3.9 A18-49 rating is decent enough for this show.
  • Everybody Hates Chris (UPN) - Only 3 million for a new episode. Wonder where CW will air it next fall?
  • Love, Inc. (UPN), Eve (UPN), Cuts (UPN) - CW doesn't have to worry about placing these anywhere. All under 2 million.

Friday Sitcoms

Reba and Modern Men: All-new and dead last.

Summing it up. Two and a Half Men & My Name is Earl, Adventures of Old Christine were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as The Office, Will & Grace, How I Met Your Mother) or just plain old terrible (such as UPN Thursday, Scrubs 8:30, Modern Men).

New Original Sitcom for First-Run Syndication; Rosie in at 'The View'

Finally an original sitcom is coming to first-run syndication! There have been many series that are popular that have done well in the past debuting in first run syndication such as Charles in Charge, It's a Living, 9 to 5, and Small Wonder. Some not so popular such as She's the Sheriff.
Debmar-Mercury announced stations in ten markets are slated to air the first ten episodes of Tyler Perry’s first-run, original comedy series House Of Payne. Inspired by the independent film release model, Debmar-Mercury is distributing ten episodes of the series, which was created specifically for syndication, in a limited run this Spring/Summer with additional episodes to be available for national distribution in Fall 2007. The stations participating in the limited run this Spring/Summer represent all of the major station groups, including FOX, Tribune, CBS and Sinclair. Markets include New York, Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, Baltimore and Raleigh.
WWOR-My9 in New York and KTXH CH 20 in Houston will be the first to air the show, beginning on May 8.
House of Payne, about the comical situations that ensue when a multi-generational family lives under one roof, reflects Perry’s gift for delivering inspirational and uplifting stories with identifiable characters.
Stations slated to air the first ten episodes of House of Payne include: WWOR-My9 New York; KTXH-CH 20 Houston; WCIU-CH 26 Chicago; WPHL-CH 17 Philadelphia; WBDC-CH 50 Washington, DC; WTBS-CH 17 Atlanta; KTXA-CH 21 Dallas; WBFS-CH 33 Miami; WNUV-CH 54 Baltimore; and WRDC-CH 28 Raleigh.

More info on this will come, such as days and times.

Rosie O’Donnell is returning to daytime television as the replacement for Meredith Vieira on The View. An announcement was made today on the program. Extra and People Magazine first broke this news late yesterday. O'Donnell is of course famous for her own talk show The Rosie O'Donnell Show.

We will be back later possibly with more news. So just check back.

Network Update from Fox, NBC and My Network TV

Brad Garrett is coming back to a sitcom. This time on Fox. According to B&C, Fox has picked up 13 episodes of the Brad Garrett comedy ‘Til Death and the political thriller Vanished for next season. ‘Til Death, from Sony Pictures Television, stars Garrett and Joely Fisher as a long-married couple who live next door to newlyweds Eddie Kaye Thomas and Kat Foster. It is produced by Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith. Vanished, from 20th Century Fox Television, stars Rebecca Gayheart and Ming Na in a drama about a senator’s wife disappearing. It is produced by Josh Berman, Paul Redford and Mimi Leder.

And if you thought one of NBC's three Law & Order series (um like Criminal Intent) would be canceled for next season, you were wrong. NBC has renewed all three shows under the Law & Order umbrella for next season. Law & Order returns for a 17th season in the fall, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit comes back for season eight, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent will return for a sixth season. While all three shows are from Dick Wolf, NBC did not announce plans for Wolf’s other show on the network, the rookie Conviction, which is not part of the Law & Order franchise. Don't expect that to return.

My Network TV has added three new prime time dramas strips based on Spanish-language telenovelas to its roster, bringing the tally of those announced so far to five. It plans to produce four cycles of the 13-week dramas next season, with eight total slated. The three new series in development are A Dangerous Love, Watch Over Me and Art of Betrayal. No decision has been made yet if they will air under the Desire or Secret Obsessions umbrella name, which both begin Sept. 5. Former movie star Sean Young, along with actresses Maria Conchita Alonso and Dayanara Torres are among the stars that will star.

On Feb. 13 of this year, Nick@Nite launched on the Nickelodeon line-up in Latin American countries. We did a story on this in January and we would like to follow-up on this. Due to popular demand, here is their line-up, 7 days a week 10p-6a:

'Kate & Allie' On WE: Women's Entertainment Week of May 1; One Addition to Nick@Nite June

WE: Women's Entertainment will be adding '80s sitcom Kate & Allie...well for a week, that is. From Monday, May 1 to Friday, May 5, you can catch back-to-back episodes of Kate & Allie weeknights at 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. ET. Then you can catch a marathon on Saturday, May 6 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. featuring different episodes. Episodes from season one and select episodes from season two will air. So why is WE doing this? Well because Kate & Allie Season One is coming to DVD on Tuesday, May 2. WE and Universal Home Video have come together to bring you this marathon event. This is similar to the DVD marathon of Gimme a Break! on TV One and Miami Vice on TV Land--both of which were also Universal Home Video shows. It would be nice if Kate & Allie would air as a regular, but looks like it will not happen. Make sure you buy the DVD, so fans can be assured of future sets.
Susan Saint James plays Kate McArdle, a woman recently divorced from her unstable (and somewhat flighty) part-time actor husband, Max. She has one daughter, 14-year-old Emma [Ari Meyers]. Jane Curtin's Allie Lowell is also recently divorced from her successful (but unfaithful) doctor husband, Charles. She has a 14-year-old daughter Jennie [Allison Smith] and a seven-year-old son, Chip [Frederick Koehler]. The two friends decide to live together, along with their children. Neither Kate nor Allie have ruled out remarriage, but view their new situation as a provisional reprieve--a time for both women to come to know and appreciate themselves.

For the list of episodes airing for this week-long stunt on WE, click here.

Last week we gave you details on Nick@Nite June. Today they added one more stunt. Well...sort of. Nickelodeon and Nick@Nite team-up to bring you the 2003 Rated-PG movie Kangaroo Jack starring Christopher Walken, Jerry O'Connell and Anthony Anderson (Hang Time, All About the Andersons).
Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24
10:00pm – 12:00am
Charlie Carbone (Jerry O’Connell) and Louis Fucci (Anthony Anderson) have been friends since childhood – despite their many differences. When the two get into trouble with a local mobster, Sal Maggia (Christopher Walken), he sends them off to Australia to deliver $50,000 to a Mr. Smith (Marton Csokas) in Coober Pedy. They meet with a freak accident, in which a kangaroo rides off with Louis’ lucky red jacket - and the $50,000. Now they’ve got both Sal and Mr Smith on their tails, while they chase the kangaroo across the outback to recover the cash and save their butts.
Strange they are airing it, isn't it?

Week 31 First Four Day Ratings; How the Sitcoms Did

After a few weeks off--we're back with our numbers!

W
eek 31 numbers (first four nights, Mon-Thu):

Households: CBS: 9.0/14.5; FOX 8.7/13.7; NBC: 4.8/7.7; ABC: 4.7/7.6; The WB: 2.3/3.7; UPN 1.8/2.9.
Total Viewers: FOX 14.14 million; CBS: 13.95 million; NBC: 7.19 million; ABC: 7.04 million; The WB: 3.49 million; UPN: 2.68 million.
Adults 18-49: FOX 5.8/15.8; CBS: 4.2/11.3; NBC: 2.6/7.1; ABC: 2.5/6.9; The WB: 1.5/4.1; UPN: 1.2/3.3.

Analysis: We're back in action. Too bad repeats dominated this week. May sweeps starts this coming Thursday, so we can't wait! Well FOX did have something new and big in American Idol that helped them on Tuesday and Wednesday. And House is benefiting even more this year. Fox again had a strong Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. 24 was first in its timeslot with 13.26 million viewers and a strong 5.5 rating in A18-49. Prison Break before that was second place in A18-49 and total viewers. CBS's comedies were all repeats, well except New Adventures of Old Christine, which doesn't do as well when Men is a rerun. Monday's highest rated show, CSI: Miami, was a repeat and still won its slot by a wide margin with 16.33 million viewers. ABC's What Abut Brian at 10 pm and NBC's Celebrity Cooking Showdown at 9pm didn't do too well. Tuesday was all Fox with American Idol & House, with 28.44 and 22.64 million viewers. Damn that AI. CBS's dramas did well against them but everything else was anemic, including a dismal 1.1 A18-49 rating for night two of NBC's Celebrity Cooking Showdown. ABC's Less Than Perfect returned with its season premiere but it didn't do too well, coming second place in the half hour among sitcoms, losing to NBC's sitcom Teachers in A18-49 (1.8 to 2.1 rating) and barely winning in total viewers with 4.51 million to 4.5 million. Wednesday it was a little better for the other networks but still Fox's Idol was too much for everyone. Lost was pre-empted, because of the two-hour return of Alias and the return of Invasion. That Invasion is one hell of a show. It better be back next season, I don't even care if it is Friday or Saturday night! CBS's Criminal Minds, but like most of CBS's other crime dramas, they do well against AI. Bones at 8 p.m. put Fox on the map at first place--I call it the waiting for AI factor. Thursday it was all CBS despite repeats of their two best shows. CBS's Surviror easily won in total viewers and adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. CBS won the 9 and 10 p.m. hours with repeats of CSI and Without a Trace. NBC's comedies were all repeats and didn't do well, as was ER. Commander in Chief was a distant second place in total viewers at 10 p.m. for ABC. Friday it was a battle between CBS and ABC, with CBS winning total viewers and ABC the young adults. A special Primetime did decent for ABC. NBC saw terrible numbers for Miss USA and a repeat, yes a repeat, of Deal or No Deal did decent to start off the night. It was a repeat because NBC had to can Celebrity Cooking Showdown after three airings because it did terrible. Saturday saw decent numbers for CBS and ABC with movies, while Fox and NBC bombed with Nascar and burn-off episodes of Celebrity Cooking Showdown. FOX will win the week in adults 18-49, but CBS can pull through in total viewers possibly. Look for ABC to take 3rd place in both measures. Sunday, ABC will probably still win even with a repeat of EM: Home Edition and DH & GA Specials.

Monday Sitcoms

  • The King of Queens (CBS) - 7.25 million tuned in for a repeat. It usually does 9 million in repeats.
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS) - 7.05 million for a repeat.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS) - 11.93 million for a repeat and still highest rated sitcom for the week.
  • New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS) - A new episode held total viewers from lead-in well, with 11.38 million and 100% of A18-49 with a 3.7 rating.
  • One on One (UPN), All of Us (UPN), Girlfriends (UPN), Half and Half (UPN) - All new and had usual numbers, peaking at 9 p.m. with over 3.5 million.

Tuesday Sitcoms

  • According to Jim (ABC) - Repeat only scored 4.51 million. I want a new episode, haven't seen one since March!
  • Hope & Faith (ABC) 2 episodes - 2 all new episodes. 4.11 million at 8:30 and 5.43 million at 9 p.m. I think ABC should put Hope & Faith 8-9pm and According to Jim at 9pm for sweeps (which will only be May 2 for them).
  • Less than Perfect (ABC) - 4.51 million for its return, losing almost a million from lead-in. This will be its last season I'm sure, despite being great in quality.
  • Scrubs (NBC) - 5.72 million, just beating the competing ABC comedy. Question is, will this sitcom make the cut for next fall?
  • Teachers (NBC) - 4.5 million--say so long next season.
Wednesday Sitcoms

Nothing!

Thursday Sitcoms

  • Will & Grace (NBC) - Last minute repeat scored 4.99 million
  • That's 70s Show (FOX) 2 episodes - Two repeats did bad...3.93 million and 4.26 million.
  • My Name is Earl (NBC) 2 episodes - Both repeats...8:30 did only 4.81 million. Regular 9pm airing jumped to 7.73 million.
  • The Office (NBC) - 6.09 million for a repeat
  • Everybody Hates Chris (UPN) - 3.96 million tuned in for an all-new show.
  • Love, Inc. (UPN), Eve (UPN), Cuts (UPN) - New episodes of these sitcoms did bad...but better than usual, ranging from 2.1-2.7 million.

Friday Sitcoms

Reba and Modern Men: All-new and dead last.

Summing it up. Repeats of Two and a Half Men & My Name is Earl and a new Adventures of Old Christine were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as repeats of The Office, King of Queens, How I Met Your Mother) or just plain old terrible (such as UPN Thursday, That '70s Show, Modern Men).

Episodes of Will & Grace, My Name Is Earl and The Office will be all super-sized on Thursday, May 11. Each will air for 40 minutes. Earl and Office will be season finales. Will & Grace will ends its run with a one-hour series finale the following week.
Will & Grace will lead off the super-sized night, with Tony winner Bernadette Peters guest-starring as Karen's (Megan Mullally) long-lost sister, Gin. The episode will also feature Josh Lucas (Poseidon) playing himself and offering career advice to Jack (Sean Hayes), and a bit of baby drama between Grace (Debra Messing) and Will (Eric McCormack), courtesy of Will's boyfriend, Vince (Bobby Cannavale).
Earl (Jason Lee) will hit a rough patch on the season finale of My Name Is Earl when he decides to cross off the No. 1 item on his list: "Stole $10 from a guy at the Camden Market." TV Land June Highlights

The other day we gave you the regular schedule changes. Today, we will detail the 48-hour marathons and special programming. Apparently, as of now, the 48-hour marathons are just for April, May and June. So, in July I guess the regular weekends will return. The 48-hour marathons in June are: Benson launch, All in the Family, Sanford & Son and Three's Company! The Three's Company marathon will also include the TV Land premiere of the NBC TV-Movie Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Three's Company. Other special programming in June includes a TV Land Top 10 Spin-offs, Weddings and more. TV Land will also honor classic TV fathers. TV Land will also debut a new original series called My First Time on June 28. All that in detail can be found here along with the rest of the highlights for June. Now, we leave you today with the marathon line-ups for All in the Family, Sanford & Son, and Three's Company (Benson was given already and can also be found in the highlights section above):

All in the Family Weekend
Hey meatheads, TV Land's bringing you 48 hours of Archie and his polyester clad gang as they tackle inflation, war, unemployment, education, gender, race and politics…with humor and heart. So stifle yourself and spend the weekend at 408 Hauser for social commentary that still rings true today. Those were the days.

Three's Company Weekend
Come and knock on TV Land's door this weekend as we hang out with our favorite Cali roommates: Jack, Janet and Chrissy? Yes. Jack, Janet and Cindy? Yes. Jack, Janet and Terri? Yes..all of them will be here for a weekend devoted entirely to double-entendres, innuendo and misunderstandings.
Stick around both days for an additional bonus--a look "behind the laughter" as TV Land premieres Three's Company Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Three's Company. This telefilm takes you behind the camera as the cast, crew, and producers deal with turmoil on the set of Three's Company, including Suzanne Somers and her contract renegotiating, numerous cast changing, spinoffs, betrayal, and lying.
