Though these incredible educators may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do - even if they don't love the school district's less-than-stellar attitude toward educating children.

Abbott Elementary stars Emmy(R) Award winner Quinta Brunson as Janine Teagues, Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson and Emmy Award winner Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard.

SitcomsOnline Digest: Krapopolis Renewed for Fourth Season; Mindy Cohn Explains Why Facts of Life Revival Won't Happen

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we're hearing about the renewal of a Fox animated comedy, why a Facts of Life revival isn't happening, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

  • It seems like it took an eternity for it to ever make it on the air, but at least it wasn't one of those shows that was talked about for years and only lasted a few weeks, as Krapopolis has been renewed for a fourth season. (Deadline)
  • A Facts of Life revival isn't happening, because Mindy Cohn says one of the stars that she wouldn't specifically call out (which many have narrowed down to Lisa Whelchel) is being a greedy person (though she didn't say person, and used another word that we'll avoid using here). (Entertainment Weekly)
  • We mentioned a few weeks ago that it was coming to some undisclosed streamer, but Homicide: Life on the Street is in fact coming to Peacock next month. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • Max's revival of Clone High has been cancelled. (Variety)
  • FETV has acquired the rights to Dragnet. (SitcomsOnline)

WEEKLY PLANNER (JULY 27 - AUGUST 2)

  • Catchy Comedy has a binge of The Carol Burnett Show this weekend.
  • It's Bugs Bunny's 84th birthday, and MeTV Toons is celebrating with a marathon today.
  • The new season of Futurama debuts Monday on Hulu.

The John Ritter Foundation: An Evening From the Heart - Amy Yasbeck and Meredith O'Neal

We were on hand this month for The John Ritter Foundation: An Evening From the Heart - NYC that started seven years ago with the Petrera-Cohen family honoring the memory of their daughter, Olivia (Livie), who passed away before her second birthday from complications of a genetic aortic disorder. This year, the event commemorated The John Ritter Foundation's 20-years of impact and John's life-saving legacy, while honoring the memory of Livie. In addition, The JRF shared the story of esteemed sportswriter and LGBTQ+ rights activist Grant Wahl. Wahl shockingly passed away last winter after he collapsed from a thoracic aortic dissection while reporting on the World Cup in Qatar. The event also included the presentation of The JRF's Founders Award to Dr. John Elefteriades with the Yale School of Medicine for his decades of work improving the care of patients with aortic disease. Dr. Elefteriades is an internationally recognized cardiovascular surgeon and has served on The JRF's Professional Advisory Board since its establishment. There was also a Silent Auction with many different pieces from all sorts of genres -- sports, travel and entertainment. Among the celebrities/notable people on hand were Amy Yasbeck and Tony Shalhoub.

Amy Yasbeck and Tony Shalhoub

In 2003 the world lost John Ritter to a tragically misdiagnosed thoracic aortic dissection. Although preventable, thousands of people die every year due to the lack of awareness of this critical medical emergency. To shine a much-needed light on thoracic aortic disease, John's widow, Amy Yasbeck, established The John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health. Twenty years of honoring John's legacy with genetic research, widespread education, and radical advocacy.

Consider donating to this great cause that will save countless of lives for years to come.

The John Ritter Foundation: An Evening From the Heart

Of course John Ritter needs no introduction, but John Ritter's career spanned decades, most notably; his starring roles in the classic TV sitcom Three's Company, 8 Simples Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, Clifford The Big Red Dog, and Stephen King's 1990 mini-series IT. Fox's all-new animated series, Krapopolis, premiered well after an NFL lead-in delivering a 1.2 Live + Same Day rating among Adults 18-49 and 3.6 million Total Viewers and is television's most-watched animation series to debut over the past decade. Dan Harmon's most-watched animated series telecast ever. The #1 entertainment telecast since the post-Super Bowl Next Level Chef premiere (2/12/23, excluding award ceremonies). The #1 original comedy telecast of 2023 (beating the debut of the Night Court re-boot, 1/17/23). The #1 entertainment program among Adults 18-49 for the week of September 18, marking the first time in nearly 25 years an animation series debut was the week's highest-rated entertainment program (since Family Guy's series debut, 1/31/99; excluding summer premieres).

Set in mythical Ancient Greece, the series centers on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world's first cities without killing each other. Tyrannis, the mortal son of a goddess, is the benevolent king of Krapopolis and is trying to survive in a city that lives up to its name. Deliria is Tyrannis' mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Within her extended Olympian family -- forged in patricide and infidelity -- she's known as the trashy one. Shlub, Tyrannis' father, is oversexed and underemployed and claims to be an artist and has literally never paid for anything, in any sense of the word, for his entire life. Stupendous is Tyrannis' half-sister, daughter of Deliria and a cyclops. Hippocampus is Tyrannis' half-brother, the offspring of Shlub and a mermaid, and, obviously, a hot mess, biologically speaking.

Krapopolis Joins Fox Animation Domination on Sept. 24; Season 2 of Max's Rap Comedy Premieres Aug. 10

Krapopolis

Krapopolis, the all-new animated comedy from Emmy Award-winner, creator and executive producer Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty, Community) will make its series debut on Fox with a special two-episode preview event on Sunday, September 24, immediately following the Fox NFL doubleheader (8:00-9:00PM ET/5:00-6:00PM PT, live to all time zones). The iconic "Fox Animation Domination" block premieres Sunday, Oct. 1, with all-new seasons of The Simpsons (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT), Krapopolis (time-period premiere 8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT), Bob's Burgers (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) and Family Guy (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT).

Set in mythical ancient Greece, Krapopolis tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world's first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series features the voices of Emmy Award-winner Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso, Game of Thrones), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), Matt Berry (What We Do in The Shadows), Pam Murphy (Mapleworth Murders) and Duncan Trussell (The Midnight Gospel). The series has already been given three seasons before it even premieres.

The series centers on a flawed family of humans, gods, and monsters attempting to guide humanity out of the savage wilderness and into a new lifestyle experiment they're calling "civilization." In the series, Ayoade voices "Tyrannis," the mortal son of a goddess. He's the self-involved, narcissistic King of Krapopolis trying to make do in a city that lives up to its name. Waddingham plays "Deliria," Tyrannis' mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Deliria is as petty as she is powerful, and only seems interested in defending civilization if it means she'll get more worshipers out of it than her frenemies up on Mt. Olympus. Berry is "Shlub," Tyrannis' father, a mantitaur (half centaur [horse + human], half manticore [lion + human + scorpion]). He's the self-described life of the orgy. A true pleasure seeker who thinks that everyone should just chill out and, if they need him for anything, he'll be down at the bar. Murphy voices "Stupendous," Tyrannis' half-sister, daughter of Deliria and a cyclops. Trussell plays "Hippocampus," Tyrannis' half-brother, offspring of Shlub and a mermaid, and, obviously, a hot mess, biologically speaking.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

  • Continuing on on-going theme of how daytime TV is completely changing, Rachael Ray is also coming to an end at the end of this season after 17 seasons (it's hard to believe it has been that long), but it is also significant because her show was the last surviving spinoff of The Oprah Winfrey Show on daytime TV. (Variety)

  • The Thundermans is returning to Nickelodeon. (Deadline)
  • Bebe Neuwirth will reprise her role of Lillith on the Frasier reboot. (Deadline)
  • Some programs will be excluded due to rights restrictions, but Reelz (the linear channel, not just on demand offerings) is being added to Peacock. (Hollywood Reporter)

Fox Renews Krapopolis for Season 3; Disney Channel's New Comedy Saturdays

Krapopolis

FOX Entertainment and its Emmy-winning animation studio Bento Box Entertainment triple-down on the upcoming animated comedy Krapopolis with a third season renewal. From Emmy Award winner, creator and executive producer Dan Harmon (co-creator of Rick and Morty, creator of Community) and produced by FOX's Bento Box Entertainment, Krapopolis will make its series premiere during the 2023-24 Season. Propelled by early fan response, the series, wholly owned by FOX Entertainment and distributed by its worldwide sales and distribution unit, FOX Entertainment Global, earned a season two renewal last October.

Krapopolis is set in mythical ancient Greece and tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters that try their hand at running the world's first cities - without trying to kill each other, that is. The series features the voices of Emmy Award winner Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), Matt Berry (What We Do in The Shadows), Pam Murphy (Mapleworth Murders) and Duncan Trussell (The Midnight Gospel).

Krapopolis is an outgrowth of Harmon's direct animation deal with FOX Entertainment. In the series, Ayoade voices "Tyrannis," the mortal son of a goddess. He's the benevolent King of Krapopolis, trying to make do in a city that lives up to its name. Waddingham plays "Deliria," Tyrannis' mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Within her extended Olympian family - forged in patricide and infidelity - she's known as the trashy one. Berry is "Shlub," Tyrannis' father, a mantitaur (half centaur [horse + human], half manticore [lion + human + scorpion]). He is oversexed and underemployed, claims to be an artist and has literally never paid for anything, in any sense of that word, for his entire life.

American Dad! Returns Labor Day on TBS; Krapopolis Gets Special Nov. 27 Preview on Fox

American Dad!

At San Diego Comic Con, TBS announced the return of new episodes from season 17 of American Dad! on Monday, September 5 at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT. American Dad! centers on super patriotic CIA agent Stan Smith (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) and the misadventures of his unconventional family in Langley Falls, VA. Stan applies the same drastic measures used in his job at the CIA to his home life, where Stan's blissfully unaware wife, Francine (Wendy Schaal), has an unfaltering loyalty that makes her blind to his unabashed arrogance. His left-wing activist daughter Hayley (Rachael MacFarlane), however, doesn’t let him off so easily and knows just how to push her father's buttons, unlike her dopey, well-intentioned husband Jeff (Jeff Fischer) who doesn't know much of anything. Son Steve (Scott Grimes) is a geeky-yet-confident kid who spends his time playing video games and obsessing about the opposite sex. The Smith cabinet is rounded out by two rather unconventional members: Roger (MacFarlane), a sassy, sarcastic and routinely inappropriate space alien, and Klaus (Dee Bradley Baker), an attention-starved goldfish with the brain of a German Olympic skier.

This season also features a special guest lineup including Terry Crews as Heinrich Brown, a ruthless insurance adjuster hellbent on bringing bad drivers to justice but trapped behind the façade of his macho exterior is a tender man with a song in his heart; Jared Harris as Merlin, a busy, always on-the-go, multi-hyphenate, wizard. Even though he's the most powerful being in his realm, Merlin still relies on a team of employees to help juggle his numerous projects and appearances; Laurie Metcalf as Eilzabeth, a leading egg scientist and researcher at Groff Community College; Jason Isaacs as Jumpers, the leader of a manipulative gang of frogs – he’s as evil as he is charming, and he'll stop at nothing to make sure he gets what he wants; and Patti Harrison as Ali, a really cool sophomore girl who pops ghost peppers like they’re nothing, and thinks love doesn’t exist. Steve can’t resist her.

Krapapolis

Announced at San Diego Comic Con, fans can catch a special preview episode of upcoming animated comedy Krapopolis on Sunday, November 27, 2022 on Fox, ahead of its 2023 premiere! Highly anticipated new animated series from Dan Harmon (co-creator of Rick and Morty), Krapopolis centers on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world's first cities without killing each other. In the series, Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), voices "Tyrannis", the mortal son of a goddess. He's the benevolent King of Krapopolis trying to make do in a city that lives up to its name. Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), plays "Deliria," Tyrannis' mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Within her extended Olympian family - forged in patricide and infidelity - she's known as the trashy one. Matt Berry (What We Do in The Shadows) is "Shlub," Tyrannis' father, a mantitaur (half centaur [horse + human], half manticore [lion + human + scorpion]). He is oversexed and underemployed, claims to be an artist and has literally never paid for anything, in any sense of that word, for his entire life. Pam Murphy (Mapleworth Murders) voices "Stupendous," Tyrannis' half-sister, daughter of Deliria and a cyclops. Duncan Trussell (The Midnight Gospel) plays "Hippocampus," Tyrannis' half-brother, offspring of Shlub and a mermaid, and, obviously, a hot mess, biologically speaking.
