Hulu Dark Comedy Series Culprits Coming in December; Max November Programming

A Hulu original series starring Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Gemma Arterton, Niamh Algar, Kirby, Eddie Izzard and many more is coming! Complete first season drops Friday, December 8 on Hulu and the official trailer is out. A thrilling and darkly funny crime series from acclaimed executive producer Stephen Garrett (The Undoing, The Night Manager) and creator J Blakeson (I Care A Lot, The Disappearance of Alice Creed). 8 episodes have been ordered.

Culprits kicks off where most crime stories end:aftera high-stakes heist, when the crew of elite criminals have gone their separate ways and have tried to leave their old lives behind. Past and present collide when a ruthless assassin starts targeting them one by one. Why are they being stalked, who is behind the mayhem, and will they be able to find one another in time to protect themselves and the people they love? Max announces programming coming to the platform this November, including the debut of the Max Original comedy series Bookie (11/30). From Emmy(R)-nominated creator Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory) and Nick Bakay, this darkly funny comedy follows veteran Los Angeles bookie Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco) as the potential legalization of sports gambling in California threatens to upend his business for good. Alongside best friend and former NFL player Ray (Omar J. Dorsey), side-hustling sister Lorraine (Vanessa Ferlito), and reluctantly reformed drug dealer Hector (Jorge Garcia), Danny must contend with his increasingly unstable clients as he tries to settle their debts - all while making plenty of risky bets of his own. Full of relatable mishaps, Bookie chronicles one man's journey to adapt to an ever-changing world as he attempts to charm and con his way to the top.

Season two of Rap Sh!t (11/9) follows two estranged high school friends from Miami, Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), who reunite to form a rap group. In their rise to fame, Shawna and Mia find themselves at a pivotal moment in their rap career as they are forced to decide if they will stay true to themselves or conform to the demands of the music industry.

Krapopolis Joins Fox Animation Domination on Sept. 24; Season 2 of Max's Rap Comedy Premieres Aug. 10

Krapopolis, the all-new animated comedy from Emmy Award-winner, creator and executive producer Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty, Community) will make its series debut on Fox with a special two-episode preview event on Sunday, September 24, immediately following the Fox NFL doubleheader (8:00-9:00PM ET/5:00-6:00PM PT, live to all time zones). The iconic "Fox Animation Domination" block premieres Sunday, Oct. 1, with all-new seasons of The Simpsons (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT), Krapopolis (time-period premiere 8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT), Bob's Burgers (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) and Family Guy (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT).

Set in mythical ancient Greece, Krapopolis tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world's first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series features the voices of Emmy Award-winner Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso, Game of Thrones), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), Matt Berry (What We Do in The Shadows), Pam Murphy (Mapleworth Murders) and Duncan Trussell (The Midnight Gospel). The series has already been given three seasons before it even premieres.

The series centers on a flawed family of humans, gods, and monsters attempting to guide humanity out of the savage wilderness and into a new lifestyle experiment they're calling "civilization." In the series, Ayoade voices "Tyrannis," the mortal son of a goddess. He's the self-involved, narcissistic King of Krapopolis trying to make do in a city that lives up to its name. Waddingham plays "Deliria," Tyrannis' mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Deliria is as petty as she is powerful, and only seems interested in defending civilization if it means she'll get more worshipers out of it than her frenemies up on Mt. Olympus. Berry is "Shlub," Tyrannis' father, a mantitaur (half centaur [horse + human], half manticore [lion + human + scorpion]). He's the self-described life of the orgy. A true pleasure seeker who thinks that everyone should just chill out and, if they need him for anything, he'll be down at the bar. Murphy voices "Stupendous," Tyrannis' half-sister, daughter of Deliria and a cyclops. Trussell plays "Hippocampus," Tyrannis' half-brother, offspring of Shlub and a mermaid, and, obviously, a hot mess, biologically speaking.

Rap Sh!t

Season two of the Max Original comedy series Rap Sh!t debuts with two episodes Thursday, August 10. The eight-episode season will continue with one episode weekly, leading up to the season finale on Thursday, September 21. 74th Primetime Emmy Awards Winners; HBO Max Renews Rap Sh!t for Season 2

The Television Academy tonight celebrated the 74th Emmy® Awards last night, recognizing excellence in television programming and individual achievement for the 2021-2022 television season. The 74th Emmy Awards was broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles on the NBC Television Network, hosted by Kenan Thompson and produced by Done+Dusted and Hudlin Entertainment. The telecast featured awards in 25 Emmy categories, plus the Governors Award, presented by top talent from some of television's most acclaimed programs. Presenters and surprise guests included Amy Poehler, Angela Bassett, Anthony Anderson, Ariana DeBose, Ayo Edebiri, B.J. Among the big winners were The White Lotus with 10 wins, Euphoria and Squid Game with 6 wins each, Stranger Things with 5 wins, and Succession and Ted Lasso with 4 wins each. Ted Lasso won Outstanding Comedy Series and Jason Sudeikis won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for the second year in a row. Abbott Elementary, Barry and Hacks had 3 wins each. HBO Max has renewed the comedy series Rap Sh!t, from Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominee Issa Rae, for a second season. The eight-episode first season debuted in July and is currently available to stream on HBO Max. HBO Max Renews Starstruck for a Third Season; Max Original Comedy Series from Issa Rae Debuts July 21

The Max Original comedy Starstruck, created by comedian and writer Rose Matafeo, has been renewed for a third season by HBO Max and co-producer BBC Three. The series is co-written by Matafeo, Alice Snedden and Nic Sampson, with Matafeo and Snedden also directing. Seasons one and two are available to stream on HBO Max.

Starstruck follows Jessie (Matafeo), a millennial living in East London juggling two dead end jobs and navigating the complications of becoming romantically involved with famous film star Tom (Nikesh Patel), and follows the couple as they realize they can't keep away from each other. The ensemble cast previously included Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting) and Russell Tovey.

Consistently receiving huge critical praise across the globe, Starstruck has been nominated for Best Comedy Programme at the Broadcast Awards 2022, and Best Comedy Series at the Edinburgh TV Awards 2021, while Matafeo has received nominations from BAFTA 2022 for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme, and a National Comedy Award 2021 for Best Breakthrough Artist. Fri-Yay: Brooklyn Nine-Nine Ending After 8 Seasons; HBO Max Orders Comedy from Issa Rae

It's time for another edition of Fri-Yay! That means we will take a look back on some sitcom happenings in recent days or weeks or other fun sitcomy stuff. It's a sitcom lover's paradise! Happy Fri-Yay!

Well, it's official: Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be ending after its 8th season. In a way, this news isn't surprising, considering NBC seems to be moving in a new direction with its comedy series - Superstore was previously announced as ending, and the two shows had very similar vibes and ratings. Additionally, unlike when Fox abruptly cancelled the show after Season 5, the shows' creators seem to be amically ending the series along with the network, feeling that the show has run its course. Both creatively and commercially, it's an understandable decision. Brooklyn Nine-Nine was still a great show, but it was clear that it was starting to lose some ideas for its main characters, with each character beginning to reach a natural endpoint. And after a solid-rated Season 6, the ratings dropped in Season 7. Plus, after the turmoil of 2020, it's questionable whether or not people still want to laugh at a sitcom about police officers.

Still, Brooklyn Nine-Nine ending means one less network sitcom in a world that's already getting a bit short on them. With both Superstore and Brooklyn Nine-Nine gone soon, the future is a question mark for acclaimed and fan beloved network comedies. Will anything step up to take their place? There are some solid new sitcoms on broadcast TV still, but none really rise to the level that either of those two hit. Mr. Mayor shows promise, but isn't there yet - and will it even be a part of NBC's new regime? Still, I'm interested to see where Brooklyn Nine-Nine takes its characters in its final season. Will it address the policing controversies of 2020? How will things end up for the characters? Hopefully, all of those questions will be answered in the final run of 10 episodes, which has been delayed until the 2021-2022 season (the pandemic means Brooklyn Nine-nine will sit the 2020-2021 TV season out completely.)

Rap Sh*t (wt) follows two estranged high school friends from Miami who reunite to form a rap group. Rap Sh*t (wt) will be executive produced by Issa Rae and Montrel McKay (A Black Lady Sketch Show, Road Trippp) for HOORAE, as well as Jonathan Berry (Insecure) and Dave Becky (Master of None, Russian Dolls) for 3 Arts Entertainment, along with showrunner Syreeta Singleton, with Rae also writing the pilot. Hip hop duo Yung Miami and JT of City Girls serve as co-executive producers, along with Kevin "Coach K" Lee and Pierre "P" Thomas for Quality Control Films and Sara Rastogi for HOORAE. Rae's audio content company Raedio will handle music supervision for the series. Casting is currently underway. Production is scheduled to begin this summer.
