Colin from Accounts Final Season Premieres September 10; The X-Files: I Want to Believe Gets Director's Cut on Disney+ & Hulu

Colin from Accounts

Paramount+ announced the third and final season of its critically acclaimed original series Colin from Accounts, a romantic comedy about flawed, funny people choosing each other and embracing the all-too-relatable chaos of modern life, will premiere Thursday, September 10. All episodes of the highly anticipated new season will be available to stream at premiere, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. The season three official trailer and key art are also now available. Series creators Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer have returned to write, executive produce and star in the farewell season, which picks up after the season two cliffhanger of Gordon's unexpected proposal to Ashley.

Season three of Colin from Accounts reveals the aftermath of the ill-fated proposal, but while Gordon and Ashley are determined to move on from past embarrassments, they can't seem to shake their collective baggage. And even as life moves on, with challenges at work, ongoing family battles and new friendship dramas, something keeps pulling this flawed, funny pair back into each other's orbits. Do Gordon and Ashley belong together - or is their beloved dog Colin the only thing keeping their futures intertwined?

Alongside Brammall and Dyer, the season three cast includes Thomas Cocquerel (All Her Fault, Gilded Age), Nikki Shiels (The Last Anniversary, Prosper) and Mark Trevorrow (The Bob Downe Show, Kath & Kimderella), alongside returning favourites Emma Harvie, Genevieve Hegney, Michael Logo, Helen Thomson, Darren Gilshenan, Virginia Gay, Annie Maynard, Celeste Barber, Justin Rosniak and Tai Hara.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankenshteyn

The official trailer and key art for Chris Carter's highly anticipated director's cut The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankenshteyn were revealed. The film premieres August 14 on Disney+ and Hulu. The original 2008 film The X-Files: I Want to Believe will also be available the same day.

When a group of women is mysteriously abducted, it becomes a case right out of The X-Files. Years after walking away from the FBI, Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully are pulled back from the shadows when a federal agent vanishes without a trace. In a case you’d never see on TV, their only lead is a disgraced, defrocked priest claiming to have horrific psychic visions of the crime. Forced to confront the ghosts of their past, the partners must navigate a chilling winter landscape and an even darker human monstrosity. The truth of these crimes is out there somewhere … and it will take Mulder and Scully to find it.

This R-rated version represents the film Chris always envisioned — a darker, frightening thriller exploring a real-life Dr. Frankenstein. The restoration gives fans a chance to experience a side of the film that has never been seen before.

SitcomsOnline Digest: Another Major Media Merger in the Works?; Digital Network Dabl Shifts Focus to Sitcoms

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! We're heading into Christmas week, but surprisingly, we have lots of news, including another possible media merger (that we imagine will face a lot of scrutiny), news about a programming format change for a digital broadcast network, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

  • It seems that there are talks to merge Warner Bros and Paramount, though it is likely to face a lot of scrutiny. (Deadline)
  • In related news (and probably something that would be necessary if the two media companies were to merge), it looks like BET (and related assets, including VH1) may be up for sale again, with Byron Allen interested in purchasing. (Variety)
  • If you liked Run the Burbs when it aired on The CW, you won't be losing the chance to see it, as Hulu has now picked it up in an unrelated deal. (Deadline)
  • The reboots never stop, and this week, there are talks of one for The X-Files. (Deadline)
  • The network has remained quiet and refused to comment on it, but a major schedule change is coming to digital TV network Dabl (will it even still be called Dabl?) next week, and it includes nothing but episodes of mostly old UPN (and a tiny bit of The WB/The CW) sitcoms, including The Parkers, Half & Half, Moesha, Girlfriends, One on One, Sister, Sister, and The Game. (Cord Cutters News)
  • John Stamos is remembering Bob Saget as the anniversary of his death approaches. (Deadline)
  • Since the approach that The CW was taking to air international sitcoms turned out to be a huge disaster, they're now turning to airing reruns of American broadcast network sitcoms that are still airing in primetime, or at least doing it in one case with The Conners. (SitcomsOnline)
  • Three's Company is back on DVD again, and this time, it includes every episode of both spinoffs. (SitcomsOnline)

WEEKLY PLANNER (DECEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 29)

  • Night Court begins season 2 in January, but if you can't wait for a new episode, NBC has a Christmas one tonight, along with a sneak preview of the new sitcom Extended Family.
  • South Park: Not Suitable for Children is now streaming on Paramount+, and it really isn't suitable for children.
  • Catchy Comedy has a "Christmas Carol" this weekend, with a binge of Carol Burnett and Friends.

Antenna TV Celebrates the Return of Murphy Brown; X-Files Turns 25 and BBC America Honors with Marathon

Murphy Brown

FYI...on Wednesday, September 26, the night before Murphy Brown returns to network TV (Thursday, Sept. 27 on CBS), Antenna TV will air a mini-marathon of the original Murphy Brown and its most memorable episodes. Antenna TV's Original Murphy Brown Mini-Marathon runs from 7pm-11:30pm ET on Wednesday, September 26 and features four-and-a-half hours of classic, water-cooler episodes including Political Correctness and Birth 101, with Murphy delivering her daughter on-air. Thirty years since the critically acclaimed, multiple-award-winning show premiered, and 20 years since it concluded, this revival reunites Bergen with series creator Diane English and original series co-stars Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto and Grant Shaud. Jake McDorman, Nik Dodani and Tyne Daly also star. The series premieres Thursday, Sept. 27 at 9:30PM ET/PT.

George Gaynes

Actor George Gaynes, who starred as Commandant Eric Lassard in the Police Academy series and as Henry Warnimont in Punky Brewster, has died. He died at his daughter's home in North Bend, Washington on February 15. Mr. Gaynes was 98.

His early television guest appearances included The Defenders, Hawaiian Eye, Cheyenne, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Empire, The Gallant Man, East Side/West Side, Bonzana, Mannix, Mission: Impossible, Hawaii Five-O, Columbo, Search, The Six Million Dollar Man, Cannon and McMillian & Wife. The series aired on NBC from 1984-1986 before moving to first-run syndication in 1987-1988. It starred Soleil Moon Frye, Cherie Johnson, Susie Garrett, Ami Foster and Casey Ellison. He voiced the character in the animated spin-off series It's Punky Brewster, which aired on NBC from 1985-1986. Gaynes was interviewed for the E! True Hollywood Story on Punky Brewster in 2006.

He later starred as Senator Strobe Smithers in the first (1992-1993) season of Hearts Afire, which starred John Ritter and Markie Post. His other main roles included General Hospital in 1980 where he played Frank Smith, the mob boss brought down by Luke Spencer. He starred as high-powered theatrical producer Arthur Feldman in The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd from 1989-1991. His real-life wife, Allyn Ann McLerie, co-starred as his love interest in the series. Some of his later guest appearances included Hotel, Matlock, Chicago Hope and Sliders.

George Gaynes

Survivors include his wife Allyn Ann McLerie, their daughter Iya Gaynes Falcone Brown, one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.

Mr. Gaynes was a talented and versatile actor. He was wonderful in the Police Academy franchise and in Punky Brewster. He will be deeply missed.

Ray Colcord

We also remember television and film composer Ray Colcord. He died on February 5 at his Studio City, California home after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Colcord was 66.

Colcord was the composer for many sitcoms in the 1980s and 1990s. Most recently, he was working on Disney Channel's Girl Meets World.

Mr. Colcord's music enhanced the sitcoms and films he worked on. His first season theme for Boy Meets World was excellent. He will be greatly missed.
