SitcomsOnline Digest: The Simpsons Renewed for Two More Seasons; Dave Chappelle to Host Saturday Night Live

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we're hearing about a renewal of The Simpsons that will almost take it to the end of this decade, Dave Chappelle hosting Saturday Night Live, and new DVDs for The Love Boat. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • It is probably no surprise, but (as we learned in the season 13 episode "Gump Roast") they'll never stop The Simpsons, with the series being renewed for a 29th and 30th season, which will also allow the series to break the record for number of episodes of a scripted primetime series that is currently held by Gunsmoke. (Rolling Stone)
  • Dave Chappelle will make his first ever appearance as a host of Saturday Night Live next weekend. (NPR)
  • The Comedy Central series Workaholics will come to an end after the seventh season. (Variety)
  • If you want to enjoy election night the same way that you enjoy your late mornings, Lifetime has you covered with a special two and a half hour live primetime version of The View, though it appears Whoopi Goldberg will not be participating. (Deadline)
  • NBC has given a pilot commitment to a comedy called Sackett Sisters, which is another series from the team of Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. (Deadline)
  • CBS and Viacom appear to be on the verge of a merger, which if that sounds like an old story, that is because it is, and it would mark the second time that the two companies have merged in the past two decades (not to mention that Viacom was born out of a split from CBS nearly 50 years ago). (Reuters)
  • While you can certainly enjoy holiday movies on Hallmark now, if you'd rather wait until sometime closer to Christmas, Antenna TV has you taken care of. (SitcomsOnline

    • Family Matters - The Complete Ninth Season (DVD, $29.99): Another long-running sitcom is wrapped up on DVD with this release of the final season (which aired on CBS and even had a cast change for one of the stars in the last few episodes) from Warner Archive; hopefully we'll see other successful Miller-Boyett TGIF series (Perfect Strangers and Step by Step, in particular) follow from here.

Who to Follow: Adam DeVine (Twitter), "I do stand up comedy and VERY serious acting. IG: "
Claim to Fame: Adam DeVine was born in Iowa, grew up in Nebraska, and experienced his first experience as an entertainer when he went to college in California and tried his abilities as a stand-up comedian. In 2006, he, along with a few of his friends, took their comedy to the internet (specifically MySpace and YouTube), and became one of the first groups to do online sketch comedy. He (along with his group) hit it big in 2011 when their idea became a Comedy Central series, Workaholics, which was announced this week to be coming to an end after the seventh season. That isn't all he is doing, though. He can also be seen in a recurring role on Modern Family (where he has appeared in over 20 episodes so far) and has found fame from doing commercials for brands such as Allstate and Best Buy.
Pick of the Tweets: "I truly wanna thank everyone who became a fan and weren't afraid to laugh at some weirdo kids off the internet. Thank you x a billion." (November 4, 2016)
