HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- At this point, we'll just call it a rumor that may or may not happen since this history of Paramount reportedly being close to a deal on being sold has been a mess for the past year, but it looks like Skydance Media may actually be on the verge of closing a deal with Paramount (or maybe not). (Reuters)

Antenna TV's Companion Network, Rewind TV Launching September 1 with 80s and 90s Series; Remembering Sitcom Writer Bernie Kahn

Nexstar Media Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXST), announced that it will launch Rewind TV, a digital subchannel offering a slate of classic television sitcom hits from the 1980s and 1990s, on September 1, 2021. We first broke this news a few months ago, but now the official announcement has come with the name of the network and programming info. At its launch, Rewind TV will reach 40 percent of U.S. television households, or nearly 50 million homes, including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Rewind TV will be available on newly designated or recently vacated digital subchannels licensed to Nexstar, full details on station carriage will be coming in the coming months.
Rewind TV will air a bunch of series from the Antenna TV library, but they have also acquired some new sitcoms: The Drew Carey Show, Suddenly Susan, Caroline in the City, and The John Larroquette Show. We already announced Caroline in the City is coming in 2021 and vaguely hinted about Suddenly Susan in 2022 (but now both are coming to Rewind instead of Antenna). We also hinted a return for Mad About You, but no word on that one yet. The Drew Carey Show and The John Larroquette Show are totally new and will start in 2022 with Suddenly Susan. Joining Caroline in the City this September on Rewind are Antenna TV faves 227, Becker, Dear John, Designing Women, Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, Family Ties, Growing Pains, Head of the Class, The Hogan Family, Mork & Mindy, Murphy Brown, My Two Dads, NewsRadio, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Who’s the Boss, and Wings all will migrate over to Rewind TV in September. Some of these series are resting a bit right now on Antenna TV, as we mentioned. Nexstar's companion digital network, Antenna TV, will continue to air some of the most popular programming from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, including weeknight reruns of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and sitcoms such as Three's Company, Bewitched and The Jeffersons. Stay tuned for much more information on Rewind TV!

Television writer Bernie Kahn, who worked on The Addams Family, Get Smart, Bewitched and Three's Company, has died. He died on April 21 at the Motion Picture Home in Woodland Hills, California. Mr. Kahn was 90.
Kahn's sitcom writing credits in the 1960s included My Favorite Martian, The Smothers Brothers Show (aka My Brother the Angel), My Mother the Car, The Lucy Show, The Addams Family, Petticoat Junction (2 episodes), Hank, Get Smart, Bewitched (15 episodes from 1967 to 1972), Occasional Wife, The Second Hundred Years, The Ugliest Girl in Town and The Courtship of Eddie's Father.
He co-created the short-lived 1978-1979 NBC sitcom Joe & Valerie with Ronald Rubin. Some of his sitcom writing credits in the 1970s included My World and Welcome to It, Nanny and the Professor, Make Room for Granddaddy, The Good Life, Love, American Style (3 episodes), The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Room 222 (2 episodes), The Paul Lynde Show, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, Maude, Chico and the Man, Viva Valdez (2 episodes), The Practice (3 episodes), Tabitha (also an executive story consultant), Three's Company, The Love Boat and Brothers and Sisters.
Kahn received two Writers Guild Award nominations for Episodic Comedy for Get Smart in 1968 and My World and Welcome to It in 1971.
He co-wrote the 1971 Disney television movie The Barefoot Executive with Joseph McEveety, Lila Garrett and Stu Billett. He wrote the 1985 comedy film Basic Training.
Survivors include his wife, Elinor Berger; three daughters; two step-children; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Kahn penned more than 100 episodes of television series during his career, which spanned from the 1960s to the 1990s. We thank him for the laughs and entertainment he brought us. He will be greatly missed.

Cloo's 2nd Classic TV Jump the Shark Marathon; WLNY-TV New York's 2nd Annual I Love Lucy 4th of July Marathon
We hinted last week that Cloo will have a special event coming up soon and now we can tell you what that is! On Friday, July 5, 2013, Cloo presents its second "Jump the Shark" Marathon! A 24-hour party full of classic TV all day and all night with "jump the shark" moments. The first one was back in November, as we announced. There comes a time when a long running television series desperately tries to keep viewers' interest. These gimmicks started when Fonzie "Jumped the Shark" on Happy Days. Cloo is celebrating these classic television moments with an all-day marathon featuring Get Smart, Bosom Buddies, Family Ties, Mork & Mindy, Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, MacGyver, Mannix, The Unit, House, and Charlie's Angels. Among the episodes you'll see are "The Birth of a Keaton" on Family Ties, the infamous 3-part "Hollywood" episode of Happy Days, the move to Burbank on Laverne & Shirley, the wedding on Mork & Mindy, and many more.
Late in the month, Cloo will have a Cloo Classics Marathon of MacGyver on Saturday, July 20, starting at 6:00am running 24 straight hours! MacGyver airs regularly on Mondays from 1pm-6am, following classic sitcoms Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, The Odd Couple, Taxi and Mork & Mindy from 6am-1pm. Stay with us for continued updates on Cloo and the classic TV they air! We will have more news for August, so come on back!
We stick with classic TV for this second story. Last year on the 4th of July, WLNY-TV 10/55 in New York City started a tradition of airing classic TV marathons on major holidays. The first one was I Love Lucy on the 4th of July. Back by popular demand... the I Love Lucy July 4th Marathon returns for the second straight year! As usual with the WLNY-TV classic TV marathons, they will be 12-hours and start at 9:00am running to 9:00pm. The 24 classic episodes airing are: "Lucy Thinks Ricky Is Trying to Murder Her," "The Great Train Robbery," "The Seance," "Charm School," "The Handcuffs," "The Ballet," "The Million Dollar Idea," "The Diner," "Never Do Business With Friends," "Redecorating," "Lucy Wants New Furniture," "Lucy Learns to Drive," "L.A. at Last," "Staten Island Ferry," "Lucy & John Wayne," "Lucy and Bob Hope," "The Camping Trip," "The Black Eye," "Ricky Thinks He's Going Bald," "Breaking the Lease," "Job Switching," "Lucy Does a TV Commercial," "Lucy's Italian Movie" and "Return Home From Europe."
WLNY's last marathon was on Memorial Day for Happy Days. The other marathons they have aired in the last year were I Dream of Jeannie for President's Day, The Odd Couple for New Year's, Taxi for Thanksgiving, The Munsters for Halloween, and The Andy Griffith Show for Labor Day. Will these shows also become annual traditions like Lucy or will they change the shows up? We shall see, so stay tuned! We hope more holidays are added, perhaps Love American Style or The Love Boat for Valentine's Day, Columbo on Columbus Day, or a classic TV holiday episode marathon on Christmas?

Cloo Classics Brings '70s Sitcoms on Mondays; CBS Renews Two and a Half Men for Season 11, Plus Pick Ups for NBC and CW
Cloo (formerly known as Sleuth) is bringing back Cloo Classics and airing them as a weekly block. Effective today (Monday, April 29), Cloo will be airing sitcoms and MacGyver every Monday. They announced the change last Friday (April 19), but we wanted to get you more information first before we announced it. Happy Days is airing 6am-7am ET and 12pm-1pm ET, replacing Charlie's Angels. Then Laverne & Shirley is added 7am-8am ET and 11am-12pm ET, also replacing Charlie's Angels. From 8-9am ET, The Odd Couple will air leading into Taxi from 9-10am ET. And the final sitcom will be Mork & Mindy from 10am-11am ET. All of this is replacing Charlie's Angels. Then the rest of the day is MacGyver Mondays with an extension from 1pm-6am ET (it was only airing 11pm-6am ET before), replacing Charlie's Angels and Monk. Yes, this means Charlie's Angels will not be airing regularly anymore on Cloo, but you can still watch it on sister network Universal HD. This isn't the last we'll see the Angels on Cloo, though, because there is a 24-hour marathon scheduled for Saturday, June 22 starting at 6am.
Back to the Cloo Classics comedies, all of these have aired in marathon blocks before but now they will be airing regularly on Mondays. One sitcom that they have aired before is missing though: Get Smart. Not to worry, in late June Cloo will be airing Get Smart Friday mornings at 6:00am & 6:30am beginning June 21, replacing an hour of Monk. The rest of the week from 6-7am will also be sitcoms replacing Monk. Tuesdays will have Laverne & Shirley beginning June 18 from 6-7am. Wednesdays will have Taxi beginning June 19 from 6-7am. And Thursdays will have The Odd Couple beginning June 20 from 6-7am. Mondays will of course be the Cloo Classics block as we mentioned. The block will be preempted on May 27 and June 10 though for previously scheduled marathons of Royal Pains and Burn Notice. On Saturdays from 6-7am we still have the random airings of 'Til Death, if you're wondering. That's all we have right now, stay with us for continued updates and enjoy Cloo Classics every Monday with your favorite '70s sitcoms and MacGyver!
CBS has picked-up an 11th season of Two and a Half Men. CBS officially announced it via Twitter on Friday. The return of this sitcom will be at least the 19th series coming back to CBS next season (2013-14), joining the final season of How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, NCIS, NCIS: LA, CSI, Person of Interest, Elementary, Hawaii Five-0, The Mentalist, Blue Bloods, The Good Wife, The Amazing Race, Survivor, Undercover Boss, 48 Hours Mystery and 60 Minutes. The fate of series like Criminal Minds, Rules of Engagement, Golden Boy, Vegas and CSI: NY are still up in the air. Maybe one or two of those will return, as Criminal Minds is probably the most likely one to return. Back to Two and a Half Men, no word if this is the final season or not, but all three stars will return but Angus T. Jones will be moved to recurring. At NBC, they have announced the renewal of five key drama series for the 2013-14 season: Revolution, Chicago Fire, Parenthood, Grimm and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. All have been given full 22-episode orders. The fate of everything else is still to be determined, including comedies Parks & Recreation and Community, while long running comedies The Office and 30 Rock have been ended. Meanwhile, The CW Network has given early pickups to three additional dramas for next season, including the first new series order of the season with The Originals,a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, which was introduced during last week's episode. The network also gave advance orders for the second season of Beauty and the Beast and the third season of Hart of Dixie. The CW already picked-up Arrow, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural back in February for 2013-14. Series that are still in limbo for The CW include Nikita, The Carrie Diaries and America's Next Top Model (though season 20 is scheduled for summer for the latter), while 90210 is canceled.

MTV2 Adds Smart Guy, Living Single; MeTV Network Adds 7 More Affiliates, Win a Trip to Cancun, T-Shirts from MeTV!
Last month we mentioned that MTV2 has acquired '90s comedy Living Single, but now we have more details and when it is airing! It will quietly premiere next Saturday night/Sunday morning (April 27-28) from 4-8am. That is not its regular slot, as the sitcom will regularly air Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights from 1am-3am beginning on April 29. It will replace Everybody Hates Chris, which was airing on those days from 1-4am. Chris will still air on weekends, while the 3-4am hour on those nights will now be The P.J.'s. As for Living Single, it will follow Martin, which airs 11pm-1am on those nights. Living Single will also air Sunday mornings around 9-11am following The Wayans Bros., but there is no set schedule.
The second addition to the schedule is brand new and was not previously announced. MTV2 has acquired the rights to the Tahj Mowry sitcom Smart Guy. The sitcom launched on April 13 and is airing every Saturday morning from 8am-12pm. Yes, that sounds a little familiar because GMC has been airing in on Saturdays as well from 9am-12pm and will continue to do so. For a show that lasted just three seasons in the late '90s, this show sure does get around, as it also has been seen in the past on Disney, BET and Centric. Back to Living Single, yes it will continue to air on TV One as well. We're not sure when TV One loses rights and if MTV2 will have exclusive rights or not yet. Stay with us for continued updates on the sitcoms coming to MTV2, BET and Centric.
