CBS Announces Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen 20th Anniversary Special; Hulu to Debut Exclusive Bob's Burgers Holiday Short

Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen

CBS announces Byron Allen's Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen 20th Anniversary Special airing Tuesday, Sept. 29 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and streaming on Paramount+. The groundbreaking comedy series created and hosted by Byron Allen honors its 20th anniversary with a two-hour primetime special that captures two decades of unforgettable laughs, candid stories and a celebration of the show’s lasting place in the world of comedy. Talent will be announced closer to the special.

Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen features a rotating panel of some of the top names in comedy in a talk show format hosted by Byron Allen and airs Monday through Friday, 11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT on the CBS Television Network and streams live on Paramount+.


Bob's Burgers - On the Fort Day of Christmas

At the Bob's Burgers San Diego Comic-Con panel, creator and executive producer Loren Bouchard announced "On the Fort Day of Christmas," a holiday short premiering this year exclusively on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally in most markets. Bouchard was joined on the panel by stars H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Kristen Schaal, Eugene Mirman, Dan Mintz and Supervising Director Bernard Derriman.

In "On the Fort Day of Christmas," a record-breaking Christmas snowstorm means one thing to the Belcher kids - a record-breaking Christmas snow fort.

Season 17 of Bob's Burgers returns to Fox in 2027, and will stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S.

  • Meanwhile, over at the news side for CBS, there are huge changes coming to 60 Minutes despite being successful in the ratings. (AP News)
  • Jay Daniel, executive producer for Roseanne, Moonlighting, and Cybill, has died. (Deadline)
  • Director Howard Storm, known for his work on Mork & Mindy, Valerie, Rhoda, and many other series (even including Kenan & Kel), has died at age 94. (Deadline)
  • CNN typically has Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen host a countdown for New Year's Eve, so why not do another one for the countdown to Independence Day for the 250th birthday of America? (Rolling Stone)
  • Hallmark has new movies planned every Saturday night in June. (SitcomsOnline)

  • Season 3 of Password debuts Tuesday on NBC, as well as the new season of America's Got Talent.
  • Pluto TV will be streaming Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's movies produced by Dualstar starting Monday, though there is no indication the sitcoms created through that company will be included.

  • You'd be forgiven if you have Law & Order fatigue and weren't aware that it was a series, but Law & Order: Organized Crime has, indeed, been a thing for five seasons, but there won't be a sixth. (Variety)
  • CBS is planning the first ever live primetime edition of The Price Is Right for December, though Bill Cullen, who pretty much always did it live when he hosted the old version, might dispute it being the first. (Variety)
  • Despite leasing the time slot out to reruns syndicated comedy slop from Byron Allen that you're probably not going to laugh at, CBS says they're exploring "other ideas" for the time slot beyond the upcoming season. (Entertainment Weekly)
  • Nobody is shopping through TV anymore, and QVC is filing for bankruptcy because of it. (Deadline)
  • Sid Krofft, who was half of the duo that made NBC Saturday mornings what they were in the 70s, has died at age 96. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • You may have noticed media mergers are going wild lately, but it doesn't look like the merger between Nexstar and Tegna (which would create a local broadcast TV company that would reach 80% of the US) is going as planned. (NPR)
  • FETV has acquired Car 54, Where Are You?, and will begin airing it on May 5. (SitcomsOnline)

  • ABC has bought a pilot pitch called The Dogwood, a multi camera comedy from the creator of Mom. (Deadline)
  • The final three hosts and musical guests for Saturday Night Live for this season have been announced. (NBC)
  • CBS has chosen to "lease" (in other words, it's pretty much like they're selling infomercial time) their late night lineup to Byron Allen after the final episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs, so that they can air reruns of episodes of Comics Unleashed in an earlier time slot, the series that typically airs at 3 AM on a CW affiliate, that nobody was laughing at even when they were new a decade ago. (Variety)
  • In a little bit of brighter news for CBS, they have picked up Eternally Yours, a comedy pilot from the showrunners of Ghosts. (Deadline)
  • HBO has picked up Rooster for a second season. (SitcomsOnline)

Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen - Funny You Should Ask

CBS moves the Byron Allen-hosted comedy talk show Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen to the 11:35 PM time slot beginning Friday, May 22, the day after The Late Show with Stephen Colbert ends. Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen will air Monday through Friday with back-to-back half-hour episodes (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live on Paramount+.

The comedy game show Funny You Should Ask, hosted by Jon Kelley, joins CBS' late-night lineup with back-to-back half-hour episodes Monday through Friday beginning Friday, May 22 (12:37-1:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live on Paramount+.


Nikki Glaser: Good Girl

The new Hularious special Nikki Glaser: Good Girl premieres Friday, April 24 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally. Nikki Glaser delivers a brutally honest special that takes on aging, beauty, and fame - confronting what it means to stay relevant, desirable, and real in a culture that never looks away.

The hour-long stand-up special will be produced by Done + Dusted. Glaser will executive produce, alongside Emmy(R) winners David Jammy and Chris Convy (showrunner), and Alex Murray. The special will be directed by Emmy(R)-winning Hamish Hamilton, who will also Executive Produce.

Max Renews Hacks for Season 5; Byron Allen Coming Back to CBS Late Night

Max has renewed the multi-Emmy®-winning comedy series Hacks for a fifth season ahead of the season four finale, debuting this Thursday, May 29 at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET. Over the course of its run, the series has garnered 48 Emmy® nominations, including a season three win for Outstanding Comedy Series. Hacks has been a top five series on Max since its season four debut in the U.S. and a top 10 series globally. Season four has been pacing as the series’ best season yet and has achieved both domestic and global week-over-week growth every week so far this season.

Six-time Emmy® winner and Tony Award® nominee Jean Smart, three-time Emmy® nominee and Critics Choice Award winner Hannah Einbinder, three-time Emmy® winner Paul W. Downs, SAG Award® nominee Megan Stalter, Emmy® nominee Carl Clemons-Hopkins, SAG Award® nominee Mark Indelicato, and SAG Award® nominee Rose Abdoo return alongside Dan Bucatinsky, Helen Hunt, Tony Goldwyn, Kaitlin Olson, Jane Adams, Lauren Weedman, Christopher McDonald, Poppy Liu, Lorenza Izzo, Johnny Sibilly, Paul Felder, Polly Draper, Luenell, and Aristotle Athari. Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen

Byron Allen-hosted comedy talk show Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen will air Monday through Friday with back-to-back, half-hour episodes following The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, beginning Monday, September 22 (12:37-1:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and available to stream live on Paramount+. In fall 2023, Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen aired in a successful limited run on CBS in the same time slot.

Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen, produced by Allen Media Group and executive produced by Byron Allen, Carolyn Folks and Jennifer Lucas, has been airing in first-run strip syndication since its premiere in September 2006 and can be seen on CBS owned-and-operated television stations nationwide.
