SitcomsOnline Digest: Seth Meyers Developing The Game Room for NBC; Glee Reboot Script Written

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we're hearing about a new NBC comedy (hopefully they can get one that'll work), a surprising cancelation at Prime Video, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

  • Seth Meyers is developing The Game Room, a new workplace comedy for NBC. (Deadline)
  • Are we getting a Glee reboot? A script has been written and apparently the original cast is on board. (Entertainment Weekly)
  • Despite being a hit, Prime Video has decided to not renew Ride or Die for a second season, but Paramount is not giving up and shopping it to other outlets (perhaps Paramount+?). (Deadline)
  • There is still some uncertainty on what is going to happen with the Warner Bros. and Paramount merger, but it's entirely possible that it could be a done deal in the next few weeks, or even days, and it could also involve Comedy Central and BET being sold to another entity. (Variety)
  • If you're looking for Ken Jenkins to return to Scrubs in his role as Dr. Kelso, even just for one episode, don't get your hopes up too high. (Deadline)
  • For many who watch The Price is Right and remembers how elaborate the series used to be, particularly as it climbed in popularity throughout the Bob Barker years, the cheapening of the show has been evident and recent years, and for the newest season the budget cuts are impossible to ignore. (Parade)
  • Netflix has a SCTV documentary coming soon. (SitcomsOnline)
WEEKLY PLANNER (SEPTEMBER 26 - OCTOBER 2)

  • MeTV Toons has a special treat for classic sitcom fans in their new Sunday night lineup that starts tomorrow, which will feature The Fonz and the Happy Days Gang, The New Adventures of Gilligan, Jeannie, and the 1973 animated series, The Addams Family.
  • Saturday Night Live is back for a new season tonight with host Jalen Brunson.
  • The Fox Sunday night lineup returns tomorrow night, but don't go looking for staples like Bob's Burgers, Family Guy, or even the newly returned American Dad, as The Simpsons is the only original staple coming back tomorrow night (the rest will come later in the season).
  • Scrubs returns Wednesday on ABC.

Ride or Die Trailer for Prime Video; Scooby-Doo Image Released for Netflix Live-Action Series

Ride or Die

Prime Video released key art and the official trailer for the highly-anticipated action comedy, Ride or Die starring and executive produced by Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham. A Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios production, the fast-paced series will debut all eight episodes on Wednesday, July 15, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world. The series is created by Tessa Coates who executive produces alongside showrunner Matt Miller and director Peyton Reed.

Ride or Die follows best friends Debbie Claybourne (Spencer) and Judith Burton (Waddingham) who thought they knew everything about each other, except Judith turns out to be an international assassin. When a mysterious figure emerges from Judith’s past and a hit goes horribly wrong, both of their worlds are turned upside down as they’re forced to go on the run together. It’s a race against time and a road trip across Europe, with law enforcement, highly trained assassins, and some very dangerous criminals at their heels.

Ride or Die also stars Ed Skrein as “Billy,” Calam Lynch as “Sam,” Savannah Steyn as “Queenie,” Jamie Parker as “David,” Jacky Ido as “Jacques,” with Sylvia Hoeks as “Ana” and Bill Nighy as “The Director.”

Scooby-Doo: Origins

Netflix invited the world to meet Scooby-Doo with a social asset showing how Scooby-Doo: Origins will take on the iconic character in live-action. This marks the first time in the Scooby-Doo franchise that the character of Scooby-Doo will be portrayed by a real dog.

The series, which is currently in production in Atlanta, GA, is set to premiere globally on Netflix in 2027. Previously announced cast includes Mckenna Grace as "Daphne Blake," Tanner Hagen as "Shaggy Rogers," Abby Ryder Fortson as "Velma Dinkley," Maxwell Jenkins as "Fred Jones," and Paul Walter Hauser.

A modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.

BET

BET announced the greenlight of Manny Halley Productions' Lot Patrol, a new original comedy series. The series offers a laugh-out-loud look at Hollywood from a perspective the industry rarely lets you see.

A mismatched squad of eccentric security guards patrols the chaotic backlot of a major Hollywood studio, where they wrangle unhinged actors, rogue crew members, and their own wildly dysfunctional personal lives. Shot in a sharp-witted mockumentary style, Lot Patrol blends absurd encounters, razor-sharp urban humor, and unexpectedly heartfelt moments, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the industry through the eyes of those barely holding it together.

Lot Patrol stars DeRay Davis (21 Jump Street, Semi-Pro), Carl Anthony Payne, (Martin, House Party), Tamera Kissen (White Men Can't Jump, House Party), Darius McCrary (Family Matters, Transformers), and Skeet Carter, TK Kirkland, Alex Thomas, Nick Nervies, Dawn Raven, Iyana Halley, and G Thang. Erik White directs, with Ernest L. Dancy and Manny Halley serving as chief writers.

Together, they bring to life a comedy series rooted in BET's pillars of community, culture, and connection, finding all three in the most unlikely crew: underpaid dreamers, washed-up has-beens, and borderline con artists just trying to hold it together on the world's most chaotic lot.
