SitcomsOnline Digest: Comedy Central Cancels Tosh.0 Despite Four Season Renewal; Saved by the Bell Pop Up Experience Arrives in Social Distancing Era

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we're hearing about some surprise Comedy Central cancellations as the network takes a new direction toward animation, a pop up experience for Saved by the Bell, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • When there's a pandemic, what's old to Canada is new to the US, and that's what NBC has in mind when they bring Canadian medical drama Transplant to the lineup this fall. (TVLine
  • Being renewed for four seasons sounds like a huge deal, but sometimes it means nothing, as Comedy Central has decided to cancel Tosh.0 in it's twelfth season, before it had a chance to see any of those four extra seasons. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • Comedy Central has also canceled Drunk History, as they seem to be betting everything on animation (a big bet, considering that currently it's just South Park). (NY Post)
  • A new Saved by the Bell pop up experience is coming soon, but this time, it'll be carryout only. (Deadline)
  • COVID-19 has lead to the cancellation of a pair of Netflix series. (Deadline)
  • We think this is the last we'll hear about the college admissions tuition scandal here, but Lori Loughlin has been sentenced to two months in prison for her involvement, although the biggest punishment that she faces is that she likely won't be the face of Hallmark at Christmas ever again. (CNN)
  • Norman Lear has made history as the oldest living Emmy Award nominee. (Deadline)
  • A season premiere date has been set for Dancing with the Stars. (SitcomsOnline)

WEEKLY PLANNER (AUGUST 22 - AUGUST 28)

  • The Jeffersons is this weekend's binge on Decades.
  • The seventh season of Mom arrives on Hulu on Wednesday.
