SitcomsOnline Digest: Kenan Thompson Sitcom Pilot at NBC; Sinclair Launches Streaming Service STIRR
Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! It's looking like a very snowy holiday weekend for a big chunk of the northeastern US, so it's a great time to sit at home and enjoy lots of sitcoms, including some new streaming options! Let's get going!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- It looks like Kenan Thompson might finally be moving on from Saturday Night Live, as he is set to star in a new sitcom pilot for NBC. (Hollywood Reporter)
- Sinclair Broadcasting has launched streaming service STIRR, which is similar to Pluto TV in that it is a "live streaming" service. (TechCrunch)
- Last Man Standing has been doing rather well on Fox, but regardless, they're adding a new regular character to the series, Jen, a foreign exchange student who will live with the Baxter family. (Deadline)
- It was about time for it to happen: Netflix is set to reboot Unsolved Mysteries. (Deadline)
- Trial & Error is officially cancelled at NBC, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't pop up elsewhere (though it isn't looking good). (Entertainment Weekly)
- Steve Carell is looking to head back into the sitcom realm. (SitcomsOnline)
WEEKLY PLANNER (JANUARY 19 - JANUARY 25)
- Parks and Recreation debuts on Comedy Central on Monday, with a marathon to kick things off.
- This weekend, Decades has a binge of 21 Jump Street.
- Pluto TV, a free "streaming cable service" (probably the best way to describe it), has launched Pluto TV Sitcoms this week, where you can watch sitcoms all day long.
- As previously mentioned, Sinclair has also launched STIRR, which brings BUZZR (also available on Pluto TV), Charge, and Comet to viewers anywhere in the United States.
- Conan returns to TBS, with a new format, on Tuesday.
- The last batch of episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be released on Friday on Netflix.

Ned and Mare take a long road trip to interview a possible cult leader after Detrick backs out; Ken drags Nicole into his corporate apology tour; Oscar is driven mad by a troll commenting on his pieces; Esmeralda is visited by an incubus.

Ned stifles his desire to win at the Ohio Journalism Awards; Nicole uncovers Detrick's monogamy and becomes furious; Oscar comes to terms with the documentary; Mare brings a famous date; Esmeralda sings and Ken plots an emergency to play the hero.

Matt struggles to deal with a patient from his past; Bruce tries to rekindle romance with a former flame; Joyce treats patients to cover a nursing shortage.
