SitcomsOnline Digest: Netflix Pays $100 Million for Another Year of Friends; Reboots of Night Gallery and New York Undercover
Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! We're getting close to Christmas, but for some reason, the news isn't exactly slowing down as it usually does this time of the year! This week, we're hearing about more reboots, a costly renewal of Friends for Netflix (and it'll likely only be there for one more year), and more. Let's get going!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- Netflix has paid $100 million to renew their streaming rights to Friends, and it's only a one year renewal, presumably because Warner is starting their own streaming service and will include the series on that service. (Digital Trends)
- Another reboot is being considered at Syfy, and this time, it is Night Gallery. (Deadline)
- Why stop with Night Gallery? New York Undercover is being looked at as a reboot for ABC. (Deadline)
- Kevin Hart was announced as the host of the Oscars this week, but that was short-lived and now he will not be hosting the Oscars. (Hollywood Reporter)
- Meanwhile, the Golden Globes ceremony has gone with a safer choice for co-hosts, with Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg. (Variety)
- Carrie Ann Inaba will be replacing Julie Chen on The Talk. (People)
- COZI will begin airing The Office on January 1. (SitcomsOnline)
TUESDAY (DECEMBER 11) HOME MEDIA RELEASE
- The Orville - The Complete First Season (DVD, $29.98): The first season of the Fox series arrives on DVD in this release.

- CBS has Christmas classics Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman tonight.
- On Decades this weekend, it is a full weekend of Love, American Style.
- ABC has Christmas themed episodes of most (though not all) of their sitcoms on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday nights.
- Fox has Christmas episodes of The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers on Sunday.
- Fuller House returns for a new season on Friday on Netflix.

The team arrives at the Animal Control Officer of the Year awards and party ahead of the ceremony; it's Frank vs. Templeton for the big prize; Shred and Emily's secret romance is finally exposed.
