Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! We're entering into an extended holiday weekend with Christmas coming up on Tuesday, but as has been the case so often in recent weeks, the news isn't as slow as it typically has been around this time of the year in years past! This week, we're hearing about another reboot of Beverly Hills, 90210 (one that fans of the original series may appreciate this time), the cancellation of an NBC summer comedy, and more. - A reboot of Beverly Hills, 90210 is seemingly in the works, with the original cast intact. (Variety)
- NBC has quietly cancelled the series Marlon. (Hollywood Reporter)
- We typically don't cover Donald Trump tweets here at all, but one this week caught our attention, as he posted a 2005 Emmy Awards video clip of himself singing the Green Acres theme song along with Megan Mullally, and it seems that Mullally is a little more than slightly embarrassed by this coming back to life. - Ethel Ayler, who played Claire Huxtable's mother on The Cosby Show (among many other roles in her career), has died at age 88. (Deadline)
- TBS has new American Dad episodes on the way in February. (SitcomsOnline)
WEEKLY PLANNER (DECEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 28)
- MeTV will be airing six of Penny Marshall's favorite episodes of Laverne & Shirley (as shared by Marshall three years ago) on Sunday beginning at 2:00pm ET.
- It's a weekend of the classic drama Family on Decades this weekend.
- Fox goes way back into the archives to air the first episode of The Simpsons (the Christmas episode "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire") on Sunday night.
- Antenna TV has two whole days of Christmas programming beginning Monday morning.
