SitcomsOnline Digest: ABC Releases Teaser for The Conners; New Streaming Service for Classic Nickelodeon Series

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! It's here, the final weekend of "unofficial summer" as Labor Day is upon us. So you know it's almost time to start watching all of your favorite fall TV series as kids go back to school (if they haven't already), start eating and drinking pumpkin spice everything, get ready for Halloween, and of course, get ready for the new fall season! But before all of that, we've got another week of news, including some news about The Conners, a key actress leaving Shameless, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • The Roseanne reboot is about to be rebooted again (or made into a spinoff, however you choose to look at it) this fall when The Conners debuts on ABC on October 16, and the network has released their first teaser for the new season. While not much is known yet, it seems the character of Roseanne will be killed off. (Deadline)
  • Actress Emmy Rossum has announced that she will be leaving the Showtime series Shameless, which has made people wonder how the show will be able to continue without her. (Entertainment Weekly)
  • In case you needed yet another streaming service to subscribe to, there is now NickSplat, which features classic Nickelodeon series. (Mashable)
  • NBC had a bit of an awkward moment last Saturday night while breaking the news of John McCain's death, in particular at the end, when they returned viewers back to their regularly scheduled program. In this case, it involved cutting into the middle of a bizarre "half-naked dolphin dance" on a rerun of America's Got Talent. (Deadline)
  • For decades, HBO has been a home for very adult themed TV series and movies in the late night hours, but recently, the network has removed that programming from their lineup and their streaming products, citing that viewer interest has declined. (LA Times)
  • Big Mouth will return to Netflix on October 5. (Entertainment Weekly)
  • Murphy Brown is coming back to CBS in the fall, and Antenna TV is preparing a special marathon not only for that, but also another one later in the fall for the 30th anniversary of the series. (SitcomsOnline)

HOME MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS
  • While they note that there is no official confirmation or information from the studio, TVShowsOnDVD has discovered that it seems Fox has planned complete series releases for both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Reba. Both have already been released entirely as individual seasons and there is no word on whether this will be all of them bundled as one or if it will offer something new.
  • Police Story - Season Three will arrive on DVD on September 25.

HOME MEDIA RELEASES (SEPTEMBER 4)

  • The Goldbergs - The Complete Fifth Season (DVD, $26.99): The most recent season of the ABC sitcom arrives on DVD in this release.
  • Superstore - Season Three (DVD, $29.98): The third season of the NBC comedy arrives on DVD in this release.
  • Young Sheldon - The Complete First Season (DVD, $39.99; Blu-ray, $24.99): The first season of the spinoff of The Big Bang Theory arrives on DVD in this release that will be available as a wide retail release, and a Blu-ray version is also available from Warner Archive.

WEEKLY PLANNER (SEPTEMBER 1 - SEPTEMBER 7)
  • If you're looking for ridiculously long marathons that run until Tuesday, getTV is airing Walker, Texas Ranger, Hallmark Drama is airing Little House on the Prairie, and Sundance TV is airing M*A*S*H.
  • Decades always has a marathon every weekend, of course, and this weekend it is Police Woman.
  • Speaking of Decades, the network will either leave the air or move to another channel in some markets on Monday, as a new digital network, StartTV, debuts and replaces it on CBS owned-and-operated stations. StartTV will feature series such as The Good Wife, Cold Case, Medium, and more.
  • MeTV has a new lineup starting Monday, which you can see details about here.
  • Antenna TV has a marathon of Alice planned for Monday.
