SitcomsOnline Digest: ABC Cancels Downward Dog, Prognosis for Still Star-Crossed Not Good; Complete Series Set Coming for Coach

Unlike last week, the news this week is far less controversial, though it seems that there is a lot of news about cancelled series or dead series that are still lingering on awaiting cancellation. Additionally, there is some big news about DVDs for the series Coach this week. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

ABC cancelled the series Downward Dog, which is not a big surprise since they seemed to be unsure of it anyway when they held off on debuting it until the summer, but what is surprising is that it seems that the co-creators are shopping around for other venues to continue the show. (Variety)
Meanwhile, another new ABC summer series, Still Star-Crossed, isn't cancelled yet, but it has been moved to Saturday and an official cancellation is expected soon. (Deadline)
The series Doubt lasted two weeks on the CBS schedule when it debuted in February, but it looks like CBS might be airing those remaining eleven episodes after all, once again as a Saturday burnoff. (Variety)
One thing that is safe through 2018 is the entire CBS daytime lineup, including a three year renewal for The Young and the Restless that means we'll at least see one soap opera live to see 2020. (CBS)
Hallmark is bringing your holiday wishes to life in July, as they celebrate Christmas in July in a few weeks. (SitcomsOnline)

While the reboot (which NBC had actually picked up) will likely never see the light of day, Mill Creek is finally completing Coach on DVD, with Coach - The Complete Series. It will arrive on DVD on September 12.

Claim to Fame: With the third season of his former sitcom, The Jamie Foxx Show, arriving on DVD on Tuesday, we're featuring Jamie Foxx this week. Jamie Foxx was not born as Jamie Foxx, and his real name is actually Eric Bishop. That wasn't good enough of a stage name for his standup comedy, so he decided to adopt the name Jamie Foxx, with Foxx being taken from one of his idols, Redd Foxx. His first claim to fame came when he joined the cast of In Living Color, and he also had a recurring role at the same time on Roc. In 1996, he got his own series, The Jamie Foxx Show, on the (then new, now defunct) network The WB, which ran for five seasons and 100 episodes. Lately, he has shifted his career more to films, where despite being a comedian, he has found his greatest success in dramatic roles, most notably as Ray Charles in the 2004 film Ray, where he was nominated for over a dozen major awards and won nearly all of them. He can currently be seen on the small screen as the host of a game show, Beat Shazam, which is airing this summer on Fox.
