Upfront Update: Tons of News on Pick Ups and Cancellations; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of May 16, 2016)

Dr. Ken

We had so much news last night for the next TV season. Tons of new pick ups, renewals, and yes cancellations. We will have to do this by network. First up, CBS has canceled CSI: Cyber, while Supergirl will not return, but will move to The CW. CBS also picked up the traditional sitcom Kevin Can Wait starring Kevin James, Erinn Hayes, Lenny Venito and Taylor Spreitler. Life in Pieces was renewed for a second season. Not much else was announced for CBS as of yet. ABC had tons of updates yesterday. They have canceled Castle, Nashville, Agent Carter, The Muppets, Galavant and The Family. The first two are the only surprises, especially Castle. ABC did pick up new seasons of Dr. Ken, The Real O'Neals, American Crime and The Catch. ABC is expected to pick up Last Man Standing as well, but talks with 20th TV are still pending. As for the new series, here is the count so far: comedies - Downward Dog starring Allison Tolman, Untitled Sarah Dunn Project starring Katy Mixon, Imaginary Mary starring Jenna Elfman, and ABC also almost has Speechless starring Minnie Driver, pending a deal with 20th TV. For new ABC dramas, Conviction starring Hayley Atwell and Emily Kinney, Still Star-Crossed starring Wade Briggs, Time After Time starring Josh Bowman & Freddie Stroma, Notorious starring Piper Perabo and the previously announced Designated Survivor starring Kiefer Sutherland.

Fox didn't have a busy day as the day before, but there was a lot of bad news. They axed all of their current new comedies: Bordertown, Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life, Grandfathered and The Grinder. As we mentioned the other day, they have 6 new dramas and 2 new comedies ordered so far. Moving on to NBC, not much news yesterday but they had two drama pick ups, one is another Chicago franchise, this time Chicago Justice. They also picked up drama This Is Us starring Mandy Moore. These two dramas join the previously announced Emerald City and Taken. For NBC comedy, we told you about two of them yesterday, but they also have The Good Place starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson. Will NBC order more new series? We will know today. And finally for The CW, they will get Supergirl as we mentioned earlier. They have canceled Containment, but picked up some new dramas. Frequency starring Peyton List, No Tomorrow starring Tori Anderson & Josh Sasse, and Riverdale starring an ensemble including Lili Reinhart, Luke Perry, Marisol Nichols & Mädchen Amick. These all join the previously announced MADtv revival. Stay with us for continued updates!
