Summer Week 15 Sitcom Ratings; New Sitcoms On Cable This Week

We're nearing the end of summer and we will be back with our normal weekly ratings report with the first four nights numbers and analysis in the fall, but we still will have our regular how the sitcoms did in the summer! Here are our summer ratings:

Summer Week 15 (Sept. 3-9) How the Sitcoms Did

Last Sunday Sitcoms (counts for week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2)
  • The Simpsons (Fox) 2 airings - A repeat at 8pm did 2.41 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, down seven tenths in 18-49 from previous week as it was Labor Day Weekend. A second repeat followed with 2.63 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating, also down seven tenths week-to-week.
  • The Cleveland Show (Fox)  - A repeat at 7:30pm posted 1.59 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, down five tenths in 18-49 from the previous week. Labor Day Weekend is the culprit.
  • Bob's Burgers (Fox) - preempted.
  • Family Guy (Fox) 2 airings - A repeat at 9pm did 3.0 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, which was down six tenths from the previous week. A second repeat at 9:30pm did 3.26 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, but down four tenths week-to-week in 18-49.
  • American Dad! (Fox) - A repeat at 7pm did just 1.4 million and a 0.6 18-49 rating.
Monday Sitcoms
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS) - A repeat did 4.55 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from the previous week. Not too bad, but Sunday is the worst day of declines during a Labor Day weekend and not Monday itself.
  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS) - A special repeat came in and jumped to 5.79 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, great but down two tenths from previous week.
  • 2 Broke Girls (CBS) - A repeat of this comedy at 9pm followed and posted 5.12 million and a 1.5 rating, down six tenths in 18-49 from the previous week. A bit alarming.
  • Mike & Molly (CBS) - 4.6 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating for a repeat at 9:30pm, which was down four tenths in 18-49 from the previous week.
Tuesday Sitcoms
  • The Middle (ABC) - The 8pm repeat did 3.35 million and a 0.8 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with the previous week again. OK, but not terrible.
  • Last Man Standing (ABC) - A repeat of this sitcom followed with 2.64 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, but down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week.
  • Happy Endings (ABC) - A repeat at 9pm did 2.12 million and a 0.8 18-49 rating, which was up two tenths week-to-week. Also grew from the lead-in.
  • Don't Trust the B---- In Apartment 23 (ABC) - A repeat at 9:30pm posted 1.76 million and a 0.6 18-49 rating, which was up a tenth from the previous week. Just some exposure for a series that only aired six episodes this past season.
Wednesday Sitcoms
  • The Middle (ABC) - A repeat at 8pm did 3.94 million and a 1.0 rating, up a tenth from the previous week. Not bad vs. the NFL kick-off game.
  • Suburgatory (ABC) 2 airings - A repeat at 8:30 posted 2.96 million and a 0.9 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. A second repeat airing at 9:30pm generated 2.8 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, also down a tenth week-to-week. This show could be big this fall at 9:30pm.
  • Up All Night (NBC) - preempted.
  • Modern Family (ABC) - A repeat at 9pm did 3.66 million and a 1.3 rating, on par with the previous week despite airings against the NFL season opener.
Thursday Sitcoms
  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS) - A repeat at 8 did 7.39 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, up four tenths from the previous week in the key demo. Great for summer.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS) - A repeat at 8:30pm did 6.36 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, up five tenths in 18-49 from the previous week. Good showing.
  • The Office (NBC) - preempted.
  • Parks and Recreation (NBC) - preempted.
  • Raising Hope (Fox) - A Thursday repeat at 8pm did 1.93 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, which was on par with previous week again.
  • New Girl (Fox) - A Thursday repeat at 8:30pm did 1.68 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, which isn't great and down a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week.
Friday Sitcoms
  • Whitney (NBC) - preempted.
  • Community (NBC) - preempted.
Saturday Sitcoms
  • Rules of Engagement (CBS) - preempted.
Airing tonight (Sunday) are repeats of Fox Animation Domination from 8-10pm following NFL coverage.

Summing it up. The repeats of The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, 2 Broke Girls, How I Met Your Mother were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as repeats of Mike & Molly, Modern Family) or just plain old terrible (such as repeats of New Girl, Apartment 23).

Feeling the repeat blues? Well the new season starts Sept. 24! Original sitcoms on cable this summer are winding down. TBS has the season finale of new sitcom Sullivan & Son this Thursday at 10pm. It was just renewed for a second season, too! TV Land's Hot in Cleveland spin-off series The Soul Man starring Cedric the Entertainer had its season finale last week, as did The Exes.  All of these are multi-camera comedies, too! New sitcom airings is the perfect way to beat the summer blues!
