Peacock Orders Dig from Amy Poehler; Apple TV+ Comedy Stick Premieres June 4; Remembering Ruth Buzzi

Amy Poehler and Mike Schur

Peacock has announced the series pickup of the new comedy Dig, from Emmy Award-winning executive producer Mike Schur (A Man on the Inside, The Good Place, Parks and Recreation) and Emmy Award-winning actor and executive producer Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation, Inside Out 2). Schur and Poehler will co-write the pilot episode and executive produce the series, with Poehler set to star. The series marks the first collaboration between the pair since Parks and Recreation, which aired its series finale in 2015. In the series, four women working at an archeological dig in Greece are at wildly different crossroads in their lives. When the team uncovers a long-buried secret with the potential to rewrite history, they find themselves at the center of a high-stakes international conspiracy.

Produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, the series is an adaptation of Kate Myers' bestseller Excavations. J.J. Philbin (Only Murders in the Building, Single Parents) also serves as a writer and executive producer on the series. Morgan Sackett (Hacks, The Good Place, Parks and Recreation) is executive producing, along with Dave Becky (Loot, Russian Doll, Insecure) and David Miner (Hacks, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock) for 3 Arts, Sharon Jackson (Life & Beth) for Ocean Avenue, and Kate Arend (Russian Doll) and Jordan Grief (Lucy and Desi) for Paper Kite. Author Kate Myers (Excavations, Salty) is co-executive producer.

Stick

Apple TV+ unveiled the trailer for its new sports comedy, Stick, starring and executive produced by Owen Wilson and created by Jason Keller. The 10-episode series will make its global debut on Apple TV+ with the first three episodes on Wednesday, June 4, followed by one new episode every Wednesday, through July 23, 2025. In Stick, Wilson stars as Pryce Cahill, an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer whose career was derailed prematurely 20 years ago. After the collapse of his marriage and getting fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store, Pryce hedges his bets, and future, entirely on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom named Santi (Peter Dager). Stick is a heartfelt, feel-good sports comedy about a found family and their relationships set within the world of golf as it has never been shown before.

In addition to Wilson and Dager, the ensemble cast includes Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño, Lilli Kay, Judy Greer and Timothy Olyphant, and features guest appearances from golf superstars such as Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, Wyndham Clark and more. Additional cameos include broadcasters Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman, Good Good's Matt Scharff, Brad Dalke and Garrett Clark, as well as golf enthusiast Dan Rapaport.

Ruth Buzzi

Actress and comedienne Ruth Buzzi, who starred on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In and had a recurring role as Margie "Pete" Peterson on That Girl, has died. She died at her home in her sleep in hospice care in Stephenville, Texas, on May 1, of complications from Alzheimer's disease. Ms. Buzzi was 88.

That Girl - Ruth Buzzi and Marlo Thomas

Buzzi had a recurring role as Margie "Pete" Peterson in five episodes of the second season (1967-1968) of the CBS sitcom That Girl. Margie "Pete" Peterson is a friend of Ann Marie (Marlo Thomas).

Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In

She was a regular performer on the 1968-1973 NBC comedy-variety show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. She was known for her role as "spinster" Gladys Ormphby, clad in drab brown with her bun hairdo covered by a visible hairnet knotted in the middle of her forehead. Among her recurring characters on Laugh-In were Flicker Farkle, youngest of the Farkle family; Busy-Buzzi, a Hedda Hopper–type Hollywood gossip columnist; Doris Swizzler, a cocktail-lounge habituée who always got smashed with husband Leonard (Dick Martin); and one of the Burbank Airlines Stewardesses, inconsiderate flight attendants. She won a Golden Globe Award in 1973 and received five Emmy nominations for her work on the series.

Some of her other sitcom guest appearances included The Monkees, That's Life (1969), Here's Lucy (1972), Love, American Style (2 episodes), Lotsa Luck!, Alice, Aloha Paradise, Gun Shy, Down to Earth, Check It Out!, Life with Lucy, The Love Boat (2 episodes), Saved by the Bell, The Munsters Today (2 episodes), They Came From Outer Space, Out of This World (3 episodes), Major Dad, The Jamie Foxx Show, Cousin Skeeter, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd.

The Lost Saucer

Buzzi starred with Jim Nabors as the time-traveling androids Fi and Fum in the 1975 ABC children's series The Lost Saucer, which was produced by Sid and Marty Krofft. In 1979, she co-starred on the Canadian children's comedy show Whatever Turns You On.

She joined the cast of Sesame Street in 1993 as shopkeeper, Ruthie, as part of the "Around the Corner" set expansion. She played the role of Ruthie from 1993 to 2001 but segments featuring Suzie Kabloozie and Feff were repeated on the show until 2008.

Some of her other television guest appearances included Night Gallery, Emergency!, Medical Center (2 episodes), CHiPs (2 episodes), Trapper John, M.D. (1982), Days of Our Lives (6 episodes), and Masquerade. In 2003, she appeared as the eccentric Nurse Kravitz in six episodes of the NBC daytime soap opera Passions.

She was also known for her voice work. She was the voice of Mama Bear in the 1985-1986 CBS animated series The Berenstain Bears. She was the voice of Nose Marie in the 1986-1987 ABC animated series Pound Puppies. Some of her other voice credits included Baggy Pants and the Nitwits, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Paw Paws, Cro, and Sheep in the Big City.

Ms. Buzzi was a talented and funny actress. She was the only featured player to appear in every episode of Laugh-In including the pilot for the show and the Laugh-In television special. We thank her for the laughs and entertainment that she brought us during her career. She will be sorely missed.
