SitcomsOnline Digest: WGA Strike Officially Over; ABC Cancels Home Economics
Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, the strike is over... well, half of it anyway. We're learning when late night talk shows will be returning (hint: it's very soon), we have news of the cancellation of an ABC sitcom, and discovering a long list of series that will be removed from Hulu very soon, today to be specific. Let's get going!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- The WGA strike has finally come to a close, and late night talk shows are planning to come back on Monday night, but don't expect a lot of scripted material just yet as SAG-AFTRA still has an ongoing strike. (CNN)
- It seems that Saturday Night Live might be able to return before the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, as that strike does not affect the show, but nothing official has been said. (Deadline)
- ABC has cancelled Home Economics, a series that was previously on the bubble. (Hollywood Reporter)
- Byron Allen made a $10 billion offer to buy ABC (and a few other things) from Disney, but despite that talk, it seems that Disney just isn't interested, yet, but that doesn't mean a sale is off the table. (Deadline)
- Would you like more Deal or No Deal? What if it were on an island and hosted by Joe Manganiello? (Entertainment Weekly)
- We have said over and over again that DVDs offer permanence that streaming doesn't offer, and this week, we have learned that Hulu is pulling a number of series from the service effective today, including Ally McBeal, The Practice, Hill Street Blues, The Bob Newhart Show, Better Off Ted, and Arrested Development. (Deadline)
- However, Hulu is adding Moonlighting soon. (SitcomsOnline)
WEEKLY PLANNER (SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 6)
- Catchy Comedy has a binge of The Abbott and Costello Show this weekend.
- All of your favorite Fox animated hits return on Sunday night, including The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob's Burgers.
- Magnum, PI and Quantum Leap return for new seasons on Thursday night, with Magnum, PI making the move from CBS to NBC for the new season.

Just how long can they keep things secret from the rest of their family? Will what happened in the outback come back to haunt them? And with Mary's former professor, Anton (Edgar Ramirez), suddenly in the picture, can their relationship withstand newly unearthed secrets from Mary's past?

Rick and Morty Season 7 Trailer; Fox's Krapopolis Debuts Well
Season 7 of Rick and Morty premieres Sunday, Oct. 15 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT on Adult Swim and the trailer is released. Rick and Morty is the hit adult animated series that follows a sociopathic genius scientist who drags his inherently timid grandson on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe. A global phenomenon, the seventh season of Rick and Morty will debut in over 134 countries in 38 languages. In the U.S., new episodes will be available for purchase from digital retailers the day after they premiere on Adult Swim. The new season will also be available to stream in 2024.
Fox's all-new animated series, Krapopolis, premiered well after an NFL lead-in delivering a 1.2 Live + Same Day rating among Adults 18-49 and 3.6 million Total Viewers and is television's most-watched animation series to debut over the past decade. Dan Harmon's most-watched animated series telecast ever. The #1 entertainment telecast since the post-Super Bowl Next Level Chef premiere (2/12/23, excluding award ceremonies). The #1 original comedy telecast of 2023 (beating the debut of the Night Court re-boot, 1/17/23). The #1 entertainment program among Adults 18-49 for the week of September 18, marking the first time in nearly 25 years an animation series debut was the week's highest-rated entertainment program (since Family Guy's series debut, 1/31/99; excluding summer premieres).
Set in mythical Ancient Greece, the series centers on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world's first cities without killing each other. Tyrannis, the mortal son of a goddess, is the benevolent king of Krapopolis and is trying to survive in a city that lives up to its name. Deliria is Tyrannis' mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Within her extended Olympian family -- forged in patricide and infidelity -- she's known as the trashy one. Shlub, Tyrannis' father, is oversexed and underemployed and claims to be an artist and has literally never paid for anything, in any sense of the word, for his entire life. Stupendous is Tyrannis' half-sister, daughter of Deliria and a cyclops. Hippocampus is Tyrannis' half-brother, the offspring of Shlub and a mermaid, and, obviously, a hot mess, biologically speaking.
