Season 9 of Rick and Morty This May; Fox Entertainment Studios Lines Up Frankie Quiñones for Comedy Series

Get ready to portal-jump back into the multiverse - Adult Swim's #1 series returns with a season that's bigger, bolder, and more ambitious than ever. The galaxy's favorite duo returns when Season Nine of Rick and Morty premieres Sunday, May 24 at 11:00pm ET/PT.
Rick and Morty is back, baby! Season Nine is all certified bangers. No AI slop! Just Grade A organic slop, made by real humans with real human traits like back hair and cysts. Please watch, or we'll have neglected our families for nothing.
Rick and Morty was the #1 comedy across all of cable during seasons three, four, five and six, and has garnered two Emmys for "Outstanding Animated Program." It stars Ian Cardoni, Harry Belden, Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell, and Spencer Grammer and is Executive Produced by Dan Harmon and Scott Marder, who also serves as showrunner.

Fox Entertainment Studios (FES) has entered into a development commitment with comedian, writer, and actor Frankie Quiñones for a new untitled comedy project. Under the agreement, Quiñones will co-write and star in a scripted comedy developed with FES, further expanding the studio's investment in bold, creator-driven voices across platforms.
Quiñones is a Los Angeles-based stand-up comedian and actor known for his viral character, "Creeper" and for starring in the Hulu comedy series This Fool. His one-hour special, Damn That's Crazy, was released on Hulu earlier this year. The special was directed by Ali Wong and recognized by the Los Angeles Times as one of the year's best standup specials.
Frankie filmed the NBC pilot, Untitled NBC Native American Community Center Comedy, last year and currently recurs on St. Denis Medical for the network. He also had a recurring role on FX's What We Do in the Shadows. Next up, Frankie will appear in Tom Segura's indie feature, El Tigre, alongside Luke Wilson and Segura, as well as the Netflix feature, The Fifth Wheel, with Kim Kardashian, Nikki Glaser, and Kristen Wiig.

Rick and Morty Season 7 Trailer; Fox's Krapopolis Debuts Well

Season 7 of Rick and Morty premieres Sunday, Oct. 15 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT on Adult Swim and the trailer is released. Rick and Morty is the hit adult animated series that follows a sociopathic genius scientist who drags his inherently timid grandson on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe. A global phenomenon, the seventh season of Rick and Morty will debut in over 134 countries in 38 languages. In the U.S., new episodes will be available for purchase from digital retailers the day after they premiere on Adult Swim. The new season will also be available to stream in 2024.

Fox's all-new animated series, Krapopolis, premiered well after an NFL lead-in delivering a 1.2 Live + Same Day rating among Adults 18-49 and 3.6 million Total Viewers and is television's most-watched animation series to debut over the past decade. Dan Harmon's most-watched animated series telecast ever. The #1 entertainment telecast since the post-Super Bowl Next Level Chef premiere (2/12/23, excluding award ceremonies). The #1 original comedy telecast of 2023 (beating the debut of the Night Court re-boot, 1/17/23). The #1 entertainment program among Adults 18-49 for the week of September 18, marking the first time in nearly 25 years an animation series debut was the week's highest-rated entertainment program (since Family Guy's series debut, 1/31/99; excluding summer premieres).
Set in mythical Ancient Greece, the series centers on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world's first cities without killing each other. Tyrannis, the mortal son of a goddess, is the benevolent king of Krapopolis and is trying to survive in a city that lives up to its name. Deliria is Tyrannis' mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Within her extended Olympian family -- forged in patricide and infidelity -- she's known as the trashy one. Shlub, Tyrannis' father, is oversexed and underemployed and claims to be an artist and has literally never paid for anything, in any sense of the word, for his entire life. Stupendous is Tyrannis' half-sister, daughter of Deliria and a cyclops. Hippocampus is Tyrannis' half-brother, the offspring of Shlub and a mermaid, and, obviously, a hot mess, biologically speaking.

After a life-altering revelation while tripping on psychedelic mushrooms, comedian Byron Bowers (The Chi, Honey Boy, Concrete Cowboys, Kimi, Ten Year Old Tom) stumbles straight from the desert into the Decatur Boxing Club, to deliver an intimate set in his hometown Atlanta. Directed by Alma Har'el, Byron's special talks about his long journey to his first comedy special, the stigma of mental health, and how tripping on mushrooms made him understand his schizophrenic father and altered the way he feels about his Blackness.

Fri-Yay: Rick and Morty Season 4; HBO Max Orders 2nd Season of Love Life

by Vincent
As we enter the summer months, sitcoms on TV are increasingly rare to find, and more so now than we're entering a COVID age. So I thought I'd spend this column talking about Rick and Morty, an animated comedy that technically doesn't fit the sitcom bill, but is still one of the most popular comedic shows on TV today. Rick and Morty is Adult Swim's flagship series, a time travel, sci-fi sitcom from the minds of Justin Roiland and Community creator Dan Harmon. The series quickly grew to extreme popularity, with it becoming Adult Swim's highest-rated series of all time by its third season. And yet, the show has only produced 4 seasons and 40 episodes since being on the air in 2014, a slow rollout schedule that has somewhat complicated its' fans fervent relationship with it. Granted, TV is gradually moving towards more sporadic releases rather than the clockwork-like scheduling it adhered to for years, but this seems like a lot even for that.
Rick and Morty's fourth season was split up into two 5-episode short seasons, one airing in late 2019 and one starting in May, just finishing last week. The season overall was very solid, with some highlight episodes that could stand up with the best of the series, as well as some disappointing episodes - fairly standard for a comedy in its fourth season. But given the sporadic release schedule and how every episode now feels like an event, getting a "regular old" season feels a bit disappointing. And the show seems to be starting to recycle some of the same patterns (Rick is a jerk, kind of learns that he shouldn't be, then goes back to being a jerk again). This season also moved away from the long-term storytelling that marked much of its second and third seasons. Still, for all of these flaws, Rick and Morty remained one of the funniest and move inventive comedies, even if it's not quite as perfect as it was at the start, and still made me wish and hope we can start getting episodes on a more consistent basis.

HBO Max announced that it has picked up its first scripted original series Love Life for a second season. Audiences love Love Life, the romantic comedy anthology series from Lionsgate Television that has quickly become one of the streaming platform's top performers out of all available content, and this is the first Max Original to earn a renewal. Season one stars Oscar® nominee Anna Kendrick, and its final four episodes are now available to stream on HBO Max. Season two will remain set in New York City but will focus on a new character’s journey – one which explores what happens when you've lived your whole life knowing who your soulmate is, only to find out years into a marriage that it's not the right fit at all. The new season will also cleverly key off characters in season one, and "Darby" (Anna Kendrick) will appear occasionally.
