COZI TV Celebrates Emergency! 50th Anniversary with Documentary; Kaley Cuoco Heads to Peacock for Comedic Thriller Series

Emergency! 50! The Show That Saved Your Life

Celebrating the lasting impact of one of television’s most iconic action dramas, COZI TV will premiere a special anniversary celebration documentary, Emergency! 50! The Show That Saved Your Life, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Emergency! The 60-minute special will air on Saturday, August 13 and re-air on Saturday, August 20 and Monday, September 5 (check local listings). The original COZI TV documentary will explore the long-term impact of the show and the many lives it influenced – including those inspired to enter service as a first responder.

The special will include interviews with cast members, Randy Mantooth (Johnny Gage) and Kevin Tighe (Roy DeSoto). It will also provide an insider’s look at the Los Angeles County Fire Museum, where the show’s original emergency response equipment is housed and will include interviews with from museum representatives Capt. Paul Schneider, Capt. Ernie Ramirez, Capt. Joe Woyjeck, Capt. Paul Oyler. Other guests who will share their personal Emergency! stories will be, Gary Davis, one of LA’s original paramedics; Greg Enslen, author of Emergency! A Binge Guide to the Series; Paul Bergman, UCLA Law Professor; Tim Perkins, EMT and writer; Rev. Tim Polley, a superfan and collector; Eric Wright, firefighter paramedic and collector; Elena Miranda, writer and superfan and more.

Emergency! broke new ground in both the entertainment industry and in fire and emergency services. Often referred to as the first reality-based television show, Emergency! introduced the American public, and the world, to the then-revolutionary concept of using specially trained firefighters in the field to provide advanced life-saving services. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Museum, when Emergency! debuted on January 15, 1972, only twelve paramedic squads were in service in the entire country, with eight of them located in Los Angeles County. By the end of the show’s seven-year run, paramedic services grew substantially with over half of the U.S. population located within four-to-seven minutes of advanced lifesaving care. COZI TV, the national multicast network is today's television home of Emergency!, airing weekdays at noon and Saturdays at 6:00 PM (check local listings). NBC4 was the program's original television home, which aired Saturday nights in Los Angeles and across the country from 1972 through 1977.

Nancy Travis (Last Man Standing, The Kominsky Method) is Isabel McMurray, the tough-as-nails family matriarch fighting to keep her family legacy afloat following a tragedy. Beau Mirchoff (Good Trouble, Hidden Gems) is Cash McMurray, the second-born son who will carry on his family's legacy; Sara Garcia (The Flash, Reign) is Valeria Galindo and Jake Foy (Designated Survivor, A Little Daytime Drama) is Tuff McMurray, Isabel's youngest son. After a tragic loss, each character embarks on an empowering journey of transformation and self-discovery while also uncovering a twisted web of secrets, threatening to tear the family and their small Colorado town apart at the seams. Emotions run high and clashes are common in the complicated McMurray clan, but they are a tight-knit group who don't give up easily. And the three strong women of the family - widowed rodeo queen Missy, matriarch Isabel, and former teen run-away Valeria - resolve to stand strong against all challenges and save their land, come what may.

Showtime Orders Comedy Pilot Titled Mason; NBC Renews Weakest Link Revival for Season 3

Mason

Showtime announced today that it has greenlit the half-hour comedy pilot Mason, produced by A24 and created and executive produced by Nathan Min (Joe Pera Talks To You), who also stars. Daniels (Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan), the team behind the film Everything Everywhere All at Once, will direct and executive produce alongside Oscar nominee Steven Yeun (Minari, Nope). A24 is producing the project, with Daniels' producing partner Jonathan Wang, and Adam Kopp of Universal Remote, Yeun's banner. Mason is a surrealist comedy about a quiet man named Nathan, often misheard as "Mason," seeking connection in a loud world. Based on the real-life experiences of comedian Nathan Min.

Weakest Link

NBC has renewed the international smash hit game show Weakest Link for a third season, co-produced by BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions and Universal Television Alternative Studio, a division of Universal Studio Group. The network has greenlit 20 episodes of the lightning fast, quick-witted series hosted by Emmy Award winner Jane Lynch (Hollywood Game Night, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Glee), who continues to executive produce. The fan-favorite show is a British import based on the iconic quiz show format distributed by BBC Studios. Production on the new season is set to begin this fall. It will likely air in early 2023.

In each episode, eight contestants enter the studio as total strangers but must work together to bank the maximum amount of prize money available in each round. The contestants take turns to answer general knowledge questions to build chains of correct answers. Consecutive correct answers greatly increase the value of the chain, while incorrect answers break the chain and force the contestants to start over on the lowest rung with the smallest amount money. At the end of each round, contestants vote to eliminate the fellow contestant they consider to be the "Weakest Link" in the chain. The contestant who receives the highest number of votes leaves the game as the host declares the iconic phrase, "You are the Weakest Link. Goodbye."

HBO's Los Espookys Returns in September; Good Grief Is Back on IFC

Los Espookys

Created by Fred Armisen, Ana Fabrega and Julio Torres (HBO comedy special My Favorite Shapes), season two of the bilingual, six-episode HBO Original comedy series Los Espookys debuts Friday, September 16 (11:00-11:30 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. The critically-acclaimed series follows a group of friends who turn their shared passion for horror into a peculiar business, providing horror to clients who need it, in a dreamy Latin American country where the strange and eerie are just a part of daily life.

Starring Ana Fabrega, Julio Torres, Cassandra Ciangherotti, Bernardo Velasco and Fred Armisen, season two finds our charismatic Los Espookys leader and gore enthusiast, Renaldo (Bernardo Velasco), haunted by the ghost of a beauty pageant queen, while Úrsula (Cassandra Ciangherotti), enlists an old acquaintance to challenge the political status quo. Úrsula’s well-meaning sister, Tati (Ana Fabrega), is adjusting to her life as a newlywed, while balancing a new gig, and Renaldo’s ominous best friend, Andrés (Julio Torres), tries to find his place in the world after appeasing his inner demons (literally). Good Grief

AMC Networks' IFC and the targeted streaming service Sundance Now released an all-new trailer for the irreverent kiwi comedy Good Grief. Season two of the original series will make its U.S., Canadian and U.K. premiere on Thursday, August 4 as binge release on Sundance Now, followed by its North American two-episode broadcast premiere on IFC beginning Wednesday, August 17. Co-created, co-written and starring sisters Eve and Grace Palmer along with co-creator/co-writer Nick Schaedel, the six-episode comedy series is set in small New Zealand town and follows two millennial sisters with very different personalities who inherit a funeral home from their grandfather.

Since inheriting the Loving Tributes funeral home in Season 1, Ellie (Eve Palmer) and Gwen Goode (Grace Palmer, Adrift) have set off on very different paths. Ellie embraces her inner 'girlboss', with all the ill-fitting pantsuits, amateur TV ads, and plumber liaisons that entails. Meanwhile, Gwen spends five months DJing in Bali and reappears unexpectedly in New Zealand to discover their mother has a new boyfriend and she's been kicked out of the family home. Gwen moves in with Ellie, takes up the job of social marketing for Loving Tributes, and embarks on a childish prank war against their mother's new partner. As family tensions escalate at work and at home, Ellie must decide whether to intervene, or let Gwen grow up all by herself.
