• Cable TV is changing dramatically before our eyes, but Paramount's new owner Skydance is saying that they plan to keep trying with their cable networks, but will potentially retool them (maybe that means MTV will finally end their 5 year marathon of Ridiculousness?). (Deadline)

• Two new sports streaming services launch on Thursday, one from ESPN and the other from Fox, but be prepared to pay a hefty price if you want both. (Deadline)

Fox Midseason Tuesday Change; 2025 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game Rosters

Fox's most arresting night of drama returns with the season premieres of The Cleaning Lady and Alert: Missing Persons Unit beginning Tuesday, March 25. The Cleaning Lady season 4 premiere will air from 8:00-9:00 pm et/pt followed by the season 3 premiere of Alert: Missing Persons Unit from 9:00-10:00 pm et/pt on Fox. Both series to have uninterrupted runs all season long. The Season Finale of Kitchen Nightmares will air from 8:00pm-9:00pm (ET/PT) followed by the Season Finale of Doc airing from 9:00pm-10:00pm (ET/PT) the week prior on Tuesday, March 18.

ESPN and the NBA unveiled the rosters for the 2025 Ruffles(R) NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, taking place at Oakland Arena in Oakland, Calif. on Friday, February 14, at 7 p.m. ET exclusively on ESPN platforms, including ESPN, ESPN + and Disney +. The star-studded roster features celebrities from all walks of entertainment and sports, including music, film, Disney, Marvel, NFL, WWE and more.

Player rosters for the 2025 Ruffles(R) NBA All-Star Celebrity Game will include: acclaimed comedian and creator Druski, two-time GRAMMY(R)-nominated multi-platinum artist Noah Kahan, six-time GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Shaboozey, Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens, top basketball skills trainer Chris Brickley, Olympic Track and Field gold medalist Masai Russell, Olympic Track and Field silver medalist Shelby McEwen, four-time GRAMMY-nominated artist and country music trailblazer Mickey Guyton, Emmy-winning actor Rome Flynn, NBA Champion with the Golden State Warriors Matt Barnes, star of Marvel Studios' Captain America: New World Order Danny Ramirez, WWE Superstar Bayley, star of the ABC drama series 9-1-1 Oliver Stark, star of Paramount+'s Halo Pablo Schreiber, Indian singer, rapper and songwriter AP Dhillon and two-time GRAMMY-nominated musician Tucker Halpern of SOFI TUKKER.

Popular streamer Kai Cenat, Chinese actor and singer Dylan Wang, former NBA player and entrepreneur Baron Davis and singer-songwriter Walker Hayes will return for their second Celebrity Game. Each team will also feature a WNBA star, with two-time Atlanta Dream All-Star Allisha Gray and WNBA Champion and Golden State Valkyries forward Kayla Thornton on opposing rosters. Multiplatinum recording artist 2 Chainz, Hall of Fame wide receiver and three-time Super Bowl champion Jerry Rice, San Francisco Giants legend and MLB All-Time Home Run King Barry Bonds and influencer Khaby Lame will serve as coaches.

The Simpsons Monday Night Football Disney+ Telecast; Prime Video Announces The Sticky

ESPN, Disney, The Simpsons and The National Football League will premiere The Simpsons Funday Football on Monday, December 9, an animated Monday Night Football game transformed in real-time into the iconic Simpsons world using Sony's Beyond Sports Technology. Atoms Stadium in Springfield will host the fully immersive fan viewing experience featuring the Cincinnati Bengals at the Dallas Cowboys, ESPN's Monday Night Football game that evening. The Simpsons Funday Football alternate viewing presentation will stream on Disney+ and ESPN+, and, on mobile, with NFL+. The traditional Monday Night Football telecast will be available on ESPN, ABC and ESPN Deportes with Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli on ESPN2. Both the traditional telecast and Peyton and Eli will also be on ESPN+, making each distinct presentation available in the ESPN App. All telecasts will begin at 8 p.m. ET. Hank Azaria, Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner and Yeardley Smith will voice several of their characters in prerecorded bits and skits.

The legendary Simpsons creators have collaborated on the look, sound and feel with ESPN and the NFL to ensure the authenticity of the longest running primetime scripted series with more than 750 episodes. This is the second consecutive year ESPN, Disney and the NFL have presented a Funday Football telecast. With Springfield's Atoms Stadium as the setting, The Simpsons Funday Football will be a true family affair as Bart Simpson sides with Joe Burrow and the Bengals while Homer aligns with Dak Prescott and the Cowboys. For most of the game, Bart and Homer will let their new Bengals and Cowboys teammates manage the action, but the iconic father and son duo won’t sit on the sidelines for the entire game. Each will select key opportunities to play offense and/or defense, replacing a player and joining his other 10 teammates on the field. Surrounding the gameplay, Marge and Lisa will interview players during the game and Maggie will fly the SkyCam, while popular characters, show references and aesthetics will bring a real Sunday-night-with-the-Simpsons feel to Monday Night Football. Homer and Bart will rally their supporters who will join them on their respective sidelines throughout the matchup. Lisa, Krusty, Nelson, Milhouse and Ralph will be with Bart (Bengals); while Carl, Barney, Lenny and Moe will be with Homer (Cowboys).

Prime Video released the official trailer and key art for The Sticky, a fast-paced, dark comedy series from Blumhouse Television, inspired by a real-life heist that made global headlines in 2012, which saw more than $18 million worth of maple syrup stolen from Quebec's national reserves. From showrunners Brian Donovan and Ed Herro, The Sticky combines moments of culture-clash hilarity, edge-of-the-seat excitement and heartbreaking drama. All six episodes premiere on December 6 exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.

The Sticky follows Ruth Landry (three-time Emmy Award winner Margo Martindale), a tough, middle-aged maple syrup farmer who turns to crime when the bureaucratic authorities threaten to take away everything she loves. She teams up with the hot-tempered Bostonian mobster (Chris Diamantopoulos), and a mild-mannered French-Canadian security guard (Guillaume Cyr) to carry out a multi-million-dollar heist on Quebec’s maple syrup surplus. In the deliciously devious trailer, the unlikely trio of maple syrup thieves are introduced – as they evade the long arm of the law, create mayhem in their quest for liquid gold, and potentially dabble in murder. The trailer also delivers the first glimpse of legendary Oscar and Emmy Award winner Jamie Lee Curtis sinking her teeth into an unwavering, powerhouse guest starring role.

SitcomsOnline Digest: ABC Cancels Wonder Years Reboot; Byron Allen Makes $10 Billion Offer to Buy ABC

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This would typically be a busy and exciting week where we tell you about all of the brand new fall series that debut this week, and we're so excited about that... but no. There are still two entertainment industry strikes, and we have almost nothing to offer in this respect. But, it's still a busy new week anyway, with a lot of questions about the future of ABC as well as their cable networks. Let's get going!

• The Wonder Years reboot on ABC got a lot of attention when it started, but after a very disappointing second season in the ratings (ABC's worst show of the year), it has been canceled. (Variety)
• We've got our first look at the Frasier reboot. (Deadline)
• Bill Maher has decided he is returning to the air next week despite the strike, but will other late night talk show hosts look for a loophole to return too? (Deadline)
• If you have Spectrum, the second largest pay TV provider in the nation, you now no longer have cable channels such as Freeform (and never will), as the provider worked out a deal with Disney that brought back ESPN, Disney Channel, and FX, but includes the permanent removal of many other channels, leaving many to wonder if Disney is going to shut them down in the near future. • Meanwhile, Nexstar has been having exploratory talks with Disney about buying ABC, and entertainment mogul Byron Allen has went a step further to make a $10 billion offer to purchase ABC and several of their cable networks (including FX and National Geographic). (Reuters)
• While Byron Allen is trying to buy ABC, his syndicated late night series Comics Unleashed is coming to CBS on Tuesday, as they need strike material to replace the already ended Late Late Show with James Corden. (Hollywood Reporter)

The CW's Late Summer 2019 Schedule; Tracy Morgan Hosts the 2019 ESPYs on ABC

The CW Network continues to bolster its growing summer slate with the addition of new series Two Sentence Horror Stories and has set its late-summer 2019 premiere dates for its growing year-round original programming schedule which includes eight all new scripted and unscripted series. Joining a summer lineup that already features 12 original series, The CW is adding a new anthology series, Two Sentence Horror Stories, with episodes featuring Nicole Kang (Batwoman), Jim Parrack (Suicide Squad) and Aleyse Shannon (Charmed), Thursday, August 8 at 8:00 and 8:30PM ET/PT. The CW's two new previously announced late summer dramas are set to premiere in July, Pandora and Bulletproof.

Kicking of the month of August is comedy game show Hypnotize Me, hosted by Taye Diggs and featuring award-winning hypnotist Keith Barry, making its US network debut Wednesday, August 7 from 9:00-10:00pm ET/PT. Investigative documentary series Mysteries Decoded, delves deeper into some of America's greatest unsolved mysteries beginning Tuesday, August 13 from 9:00-10:00pm ET/PT. And season two of CW Seed's musical comedy I Ship It, written, created and executive produced by Yulin Kuang, makes its broadcast debut on The CW Network on Monday, August 19 at 9:30pm ET/PT. Extreme sports docu-series Red Bull Peaking featuring iconic extreme sports stars Kelly McGarry, James Stewart and Jenny Rissveds, airs back-to-back episodes starting Friday, September 13 at 9:00 and 9:30pm ET/PT. In addition to these original summer series, four of The CW's midseason scripted series will come to a close following original episodes airing through the summer months. A celebratory episode of the award-winning Jane the Virgin will air on Wednesday, July 31 at 8:00pm ET/PT followed by the series finale on the same night at 9:00pm ET/PT. The series finale of iZombie will air Thursday, August 1 at 8:00pm ET/PT.

Midseason fan favorites will wrap their seasons during the summer months, including In the Dark, whose first season finale airs Thursday, June 27 at 9:00pm ET/PT and The 100, which will conclude its sixth season on Tuesday, August 6 at 9:00pm ET/PT.

The 2019 ESPYS Presented by Capital One will be hosted by acclaimed actor and comedian Tracy Morgan. Morgan, who currently stars on the critically acclaimed comedy series The Last O.G., will be joined by top celebrities from sports and entertainment to commemorate the past year in sports by recognizing major sports achievements, reliving unforgettable moments, and saluting the leading performers and performances. The ESPYS will be broadcast live on ABC on Wednesday, July 10, at 8 p.m. ET from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Morgan is one of the most notable and respected comedy actors of our time. He received an Emmy Nomination for his work on 30 Rock and is a nine-time NAACP Image Award nominee. Morgan also received an Emmy nomination for his triumphant return to Saturday Night Live, where he had previously starred for seven seasons.

Welcome to another edition of mini-DVD reviews and our inaugural edition of Solomon's Weekly Rant. This week we take a look at Warner Home Video's Wait Till Your Father Gets Home - The Complete First Season. Wait Till Your Father Gets Home is the first-run syndicated animated sitcom produced by Hanna-Barbera that ran from 1972-1974. It featured the voices of sitcom actors Tom Bosley (Happy Days), Kristina Holland (The Courtship of Eddie's Father) and Willie Aames (Charles in Charge). Wait Till Your Father Gets Home - The Complete First Season (Warner Home Video, $44.98)

Confronting the Era's Issues - One Laugh at a Time

The Age of Aquarius dawned. Harry Boyle forgot to set his alarm. From the era of the live-action All in the Family comes the animated generation-gap comedy Wait Till Your Father Gets Home. Tom Bosley provides the voice of Harry, an affable, 40-something Everyman and suburban father of three whose daily routine is anything but when he faces the burning questions of the make-love-not-war era. Women's lib, civil rights, hippies, sexuality, communes, music and the Cold War are some of the hot-button petals in the series' flower-powered laughfest. They're all part of Harry's world, where a man's home is his hassle. In Season One, the Boyles (Harry, Irma and kids Chet, Alice and Jamie) have adventures Andy Hardy's family never dreamed of. Like the time Alice joins the commune. Or when Irma makes the astounding decision to get a job. Or the day Harry is mugged and his kids are overcome with sympathy.

Wait Till Your Father Gets Home premiered in first-run syndication in the fall of 1972. It had first appeared as an one-time segment on Love, American Style called "Love and the Old-Fashioned-Father" on February 11, 1972. Lending their voices to the series were Tom Bosley as Harry Boyle, Joan Gerber as Irma Boyle, Kristina Holland as Alice Boyle, David Hayward as Chet Boyle, Jackie Haley as Jamie Boyle (episodes 1-11), Willie Aames as Jamie Boyle (episodes 12-48) and Jack Burns as Ralph. The second season featured celebrities including Don Knotts, Phyllis Diller, Don Adams, Rich Little, Jonathan Winters and Monty Hall. A total of 48 episodes (plus the pilot) were produced over two seasons.

The cover art features a cast photo of the Boyle family. The show logo is at the top of the box. A wood panel type background is used. On the back of the box, there is an additional cast photo and four other photos from the episodes. A synopsis of the set, a listing of the special features and the DVD specs are given. The main Digipak slides out from the right of the box. It features the same cast photo as the cover art. The episode titles are listd by disc on the inside panels. An orange and flower background is used. It would have been nice to have some type of episode guide included. The discs feature a different character and colored background on each one. Disc 1 has episodes 1-6, Disc 2 has 7-12. Disc 3 has 13-18. Disc 4 has 19-24.

The main menus feature a photo of the cast in a circle. There is a wood panel background, so the photo looks like a picture that you would hang on the wall. The catchy opening theme song is played in the background. There are options for Play (Play All) and Episodes on each main menu. When you select Episodes, it takes you to a sub-menu where there are different photos of the characters. Unfortunately, there are no chapter stops available within the episodes. You can't use the "next" button on the remote either. You can only fast forward through the episodes.

For being over 30 years old, these episodes look quite good. They probably have been remastered for the best picture quality possible. The colors are generally bright and vibrant. There is some dirt and debris present, but it's not overwhelming. I did notice that one episode (#15 "The Prowler") looked to have a picture that was much darker than the rest of the episodes. I'm not sure what happened there. All episodes appear to be unedited, running around 23 1/2 minutes in length. The total running time of the set is 589 minutes. The audio track is your basic Dolby Digital Mono track. The dialogue is at a good level and easy to understand. You'll notice that they used a laugh track on the episodes like a typical live-action sitcom. Closed-captioning is available on all of the episodes but not the bonus material. For the closing logo enthusiasts, there is orange and black logo for A Hanna-Barbera Productions - A Division of Taft Broadcasting Company.

A couple of short but interesting and informative special features are found on the fourth disc. Animation for the Nation (10:03) features interviews with Governor Gray Davis (Ret.), cultural historian Mary F. Conrey, author Michael Mallory ("Hanna-Barbera Cartoons), pop music icon Leif Garrett and actor Gary Owens. This featurette focuses more on the 1970's in general than the show itself. There is some stock footage of various historic events. They talk about the writing of the pilot, hippies, the characters on the show, the sexual revolution, women's liberation and the neighbor on the show, Ralph. Illustrating the Times (6:34) features interviews with production designer Iwao Takamoto, Michael Mallory and character designer Marty Murphy. They talk about the general history of the show and the style of chracters. This show was done with a low budget and a lack of a lot of action. They often omitted the floors, so it would look like the characters were floating on the screen. Various storyboards and sketches of the characters are shown. This featurette was dedicated to the memory of legengendary artist Iwao Takamoto who passed away on January 8, 2007. Three trailers are available for Popeye the Sailor 1933-1938 Vol. 1, Classic Cartoons from the Vault, and Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain Vol. 3.

Wait Till Your Father isn't terribly dated, and it's fun to hear all the pop culture references of the era. It was quite a groundbreaking series. Although a bit controversial at the time, it would be considered pretty tame by today's standards. It paved the way for other primetime animated sitcoms like The Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad. If you like those types of shows and All in the Family, you'll probably enjoy this series. If you have never seen the show before, you can watch it on Boomerang or AOL's In2TV Service. Warner Home Video has done a very good job with the first season release. Unfortunately, the pilot episode was on Love, American Style, so the rights for that are owned by CBS DVD/Paramount. Maybe we'll see that on a "Best of" Love, American Style set in the future. Let's hope the second and final season is released to complete the series. This set would make a nice Father's Day gift for the dad in your family.
