Netflix Orders Rob Lowe & Son Comedy; Brothers Garcia Reboot Premieres April 14 on HBO Max
Netflix has ordered Unstable, a new scripted comedy series starring Rob Lowe (9-1-1: Lone Star, Parks & Recreation) and his son, John Owen Lowe. Unstable is co-created and executive produced by both Lowes and Victor Fresco (Santa Clarita Diet, Better Off Ted). The series is set in a cutting-edge biotech research company, following an introverted, socially-challenged son who goes to work for his very successful, wildly eccentric father in order to save him from disaster. It is inspired by Rob and John Owen Lowe's social media relationship, in which John Owen often humorously trolls his dad. Their posts often go viral and have been extensively covered in the media. Rob Lowe's iconic career spans four decades in film, television, and theater, currently starring in 9-1-1: Lone Star. John Owen Lowe is a writer, producer, and actor. His acting credits include The Grinder and the Netflix feature Holiday in the Wild. John Owen has been a story editor on the series 9-1-1: Lone Star, penning several episodes over the past three seasons.
The Garcias, a reboot of the hit Nickelodeon series The Brothers Garcia, will premiere on HBO Max on Thursday, April 14. This show aims to not only create a sense of normalcy for U.S. Latinos but also help change the narrative in our country that too often portrays them as cookie-cutter stereotypes. In The Garcias, we jump forward 15 years from the original series. The Garcia kids are now grown up and have children of their own. The new series sees the extended Garcia family travel to the beautiful Riviera Maya in Mexico, a place full of self-discovery where they will all learn what it really takes to be a "familia." It features all the original main cast members, most of whom had not acted in 17 years. Guest stars include Maria Conchita Alonso, Valente Rodriguez, Paul Rodriguez, Carmen Carrera, Nancy Lee, and more.
