SitcomsOnline Digest: Roseanne Reboot Now a Reality; black-ish Spinoff Set for Freeform
HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
- We were a bit skeptical of it actually happening (especially in light of NBC's announced but later aborted Coach project), but it turns out that it really is happening: Roseanne is making an eight episode comeback to ABC next season with the original cast, including both actresses who played Becky and the (supposedly) dead Dan. (LA Times)
- Spinoffs are a big deal for next season, including College-ish, the Black-ish spinoff starring Yara Shahidi, which will air on Freeform. (Hollywood Reporter)
- There has been a lot of speculation that The Big Bang Theory would end after the twelfth season (which is still two years from now), as that would be the point where the cast would likely be ready to move on and they would certainly want the show to go out on top instead of being cancelled for low ratings if it were to ever fall into a slump, but CBS CEO Les Moonves is saying that he hopes it goes on beyond two more years. (Deadline)
- It probably comes as little surprise that CBS has cancelled The Odd Couple, which had acceptable ratings, but didn't quite live up to the higher standards required by CBS. (Hollywood Reporter)
- Last Man Standing is down, but (maybe) not out, as 20th Century Fox is trying to find a new home for it after ABC cancelled it, although so far nobody (including the networks owned by the studio) seems to be interested. (Variety)
- In a regular card game, the aces are high, but this week TBS announced a new version of the game show The Joker's Wild hosted by Snoop Dogg, where we're placing our bets on the host being high. (Variety)
- One unexpected theme of the new fall season that can be seen in a few of the series picked up by the broadcast networks is religion. (Deadline)
- There will be a new Dynasty on the air this fall, but if you want to catch the old one before that, CW Seed (an online network) will have you taken care of this summer. (SitcomsOnline)
HOME MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS
- It took over a decade for the second season of The Jamie Foxx Show to be released following the first season, but the wait for the third season is much shorter, as Warner Archive will release The Jamie Foxx Show - The Complete Third Season on June 27.
