SitcomsOnline Digest: End of the Road for Mike & Molly; Fuller House Debut Date Set; Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt DVDs in the Works

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! Christmas is coming up next week (before we'll be back for next week's SitcomsOnline Digest even), but it has been a surprisingly busy week of news this week with the somewhat unexpected cancellation of a CBS sitcom, a preview and date announcement for Fuller House, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

Mike & Molly has never been a huge hit for CBS, but has always done rather decently in the ratings and has come to be a show that fans could rely on seeing more of. That is why it was somewhat of a surprise when it was announced this week that the sixth season, which debuts next month, will likely be the final season. (Deadline)
Fuller House now has a Netflix debut date set, along with a preview (which doesn't really say a whole lot). (SitcomsOnline)
Amazon announced a new slate of original series for their online streaming this week. (Deadline)
Patricia Heaton is looking to add executive producer to her resume as ABC puts a comedy pilot, titled Kill Jill, into development. (Deadline)
It may come as no surprise to anybody who watched it, but NBC has canceled the variety show Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris. (Variety)
It's been almost a decade since the entire series last aired nationally (the most recent network to air it only aired a handful of earlier episodes), and now all six seasons Mama's Family will finally be returning to national TV. (SitcomsOnline)

HOME MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS

While it isn't exactly the type of comedy that is getting the awards recognition as is the case for other Netflix original series, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a fun and quirky series that is much more along the lines of the type of comedy you'd find in a traditional broadcast network sitcom (which only makes sense as the first season was originally produced for NBC). Now, Universal has announced a March 8 release date for The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt - The Complete First Season on DVD.

TUESDAY (DECEMBER 22) HOME MEDIA RELEASES

The Nanny - Season Five (DVD, $34.99): For those who may have skipped on the complete series release, Shout! Factory is bringing this individual season to retail just in time for last minute Christmas gift giving.

Who to Follow: Rondi Reed (Facebook)

Claim to Fame: Rondi Reed's social media existence made news about a week ago when it was revealed that she announced (and it was something that she announced several days before it really got out) that Mike & Molly would be canceled. Currently, she appears on Mike & Molly in the role of Mike's mother, a role that was originally more of a recurring role but quickly morphed into a regular role. She has previously appeared in guest roles on Home Improvement, Roseanne, Cybill, Seinfeld, Grace Under Fire, and most recently she has appeared in an episode of the current ABC hit series Scandal.

Pick of the Facebook Posts: "Before you hear it elsewhere (and some already have) this is the Final and 6th Season of MIKE & MOLLY on CBS. It is also a shortened season (13 episodes) after the announced full renewal of 22 episodes back in March by the network. We are done taping as of January 27th 2016 and I am not sure exactly when/if the episodes will all be aired...." (December 9, 2015)
