69th Annual Golden Globe Awards Nominations; 2012 SAG Nominations

The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards nominees have been announced! HBO leads with 18 (up from 12 last year) nominations. Showtime follows with 8 (the same as last year). ABC leads the broadcast nominees with 4 this year, followed by Fox and NBC with 3 and CBS with 2. Modern Family, Boardwalk Empire and Homeland were the most nominated television series with 3 each this year. The telecast airs Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012 from 8-11pm ET on NBC. Here are the major nominees:

COMMENTS: There were only 5 nominations in the categories this year. No 30 Rock or The Big Bang Theory this year. Newcomers to this list: Enlightened, Episodes and New Girl. Modern Family has to be the heavy favorite.

COMMENTS: Tina Fey and Laura Linney are nominated again. Laura Dern, Zooey Deschanel and Amy Poehler are new this year. Edie Falco is a surprise omission.

COMMENTS: No Jim Parsons or Steve Carell this year. David Duchovny, Johnny Galecki and Matt LeBlanc are new from last year.

BEST TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA

Boss (Starz)
Game of Thrones (HBO)
Homeland (Showtime)
COMMENTS: All of the nominees are newcomers this year and air on cable. The Good Wife was deserving from the broadcast networks.

Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife (CBS)

COMMENTS: Only Julianna Margulies returns from last year. Callie Thorne is a major surprise. Madeleine Stowe receives the first nomination for ABC's soapy Revenge.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA

Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad (AMC)
Kelsey Grammer, Boss (Starz)

COMMENTS: Steve Buscemi and Bryan Cranston return from last year. Kyle Chandler from Friday Night Lights is a surprise omission.

COMMENTS: Kelly Macdonald and Sofia Vergara are nominated again. The others are newcomers. Julie Bowen was also deserving, but it's tough with only 5 nominees.

Awards season is heating up with the Golden Globes above and the WGA Awards & PGA Nominations last week, now we have another. Yesterday, the 18th Annual Screen Actor Guild Awards (SAG) nominees were announced. Leading the pack were Modern Family, 30 Rock and Dexter. Among the broadcast networks, NBC led with 6 nominations followed by ABC and CBS with 5 each. HBO led overall with 11 nominations. TV Land's Hot in Cleveland got its second straight nomination for star Betty White, while the Glee craze has died down with only one nomination. The awards will air live Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 on TNT and TBS at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.
