If you're looking for a light, airy watch that has some elements of a sitcom but also some of the more long-term plotting of a drama, I'd highly recommend Cobra Kai on Netflix. The series was previously a YouTube Red series, but was picked up by Netflix after YouTube Red let it go after 2 seasons. It's a continuation of the Karate Kid series, a "sequel" if you will, but in the form of a television series. If that doesn't sound appealing to you, then I would still recommend you try it anyway. I'm not a big fan of the Karate Kid movies myself, and yet I still found myself really invested in the show's world.

Cobra Kai has some of the most intricate character work I've seen on TV, and unlike many streaming series of recent times, it actually feels well-plotted and suited to its episode length. It's a quick watch (just two 10 episode seasons, less than 30 minutes per episode) but in those short episodes it manages to build a reliable world of characters even beyond the characters leftover from the Karate Kid movies. It's also actually pretty funny, with genuine moments of humor amongst the karate and world building. If you give it a try this weekend, it's the absolute perfect weekend binge watch.

ABC announced premiere dates for its scripted drama series slate, rounding out the network's fall schedule. Dates for unscripted and comedy series were previously announced, as we announced. The Good Doctor will kick-off the drama return on ABC, while drama staple Grey's Anatomy gets a two-hour return. For Life returns now in the Fall, rather than mid-season as previously slated (it is replacing the canceled Stumptown). ABC's drama scripted series premiere dates are as follows (all times listed are Eastern/Pacific). New shows are in bold. Note: Sunday drama The Rookie will be premiering later in the season (it hasn't started production yet on new episodes).

In advance of its series premiere in midseason 2021, Fox Entertainment has renewed the all-new animated comedy The Great North, for a second season. The series comes from Bob's Burgers creator Loren Bouchard, and is created, written and executive-produced by Bob's Burgers writers and executive producers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin and writer Minty Lewis (Regular Show). The Great North follows the Alaskan adventures of the Tobin family, as a single dad, BEEF (Nick Offerman), does his best to keep his weird bunch of kids close - especially his only daughter, JUDY (Jenny Slate), whose artistic dreams lead her away from the family fishing boat and into the glamorous world of the local mall. Rounding out the family are Judy's older brother, WOLF, (Will Forte) and his fiancé, HONEYBEE (Dulcé Sloan), her middle brother, HAM (Paul Rust), and ten-year-old-going-on-fifty little brother, MOON (Aparna Nancherla). While their mother is not in the picture, Judy seeks guidance from her new boss, ALYSON (Megan Mullaly), and her imaginary friend, ALANIS MORISSETTE (guest-voicing as herself), who appears to her in the Northern Lights. Bento Box Entertainment serves as the animation studio on The Great North.

36 years to the day after it first premiered, The Karate Kid inspires a new generation as Cobra Kai's first two seasons come to Netflix, with a third on the way. Netflix announced it is the new home to Cobra Kai, the series continuation of the iconic The Karate Kid film franchise from Sony Pictures Television. The film's stars, Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprise their star-making roles in the series along with Martin Kove as sensei John Kreese. Under the terms of the deal, the first two seasons of Sony Pictures Television's Cobra Kai,which aired on YouTube, will premiere on Netflix this year, with an all-new third season to follow. Cobra Kai takes place 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, where a now successful Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) struggles to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of Mr. Miyagi, and must face his previous adversary, down-and-out Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), who seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo. 

American Dad! is back with new episodes on TBS starting Monday, April 13 at 10:00pm ET/PT. This year marks the 15th anniversary of Seth MacFarlane's award-winning satirical animated comedy, and on Monday, September 14 the series will air its milestone 300th episode. The series moved to TBS in 2014 and has aired 101 original episodes on the network to date. The latest season drew nearly 18M total viewers and ranks as a top-five cable comedy. One of the new episodes, airing Monday, May 4, will feature an original song by Grammy(R) Award-winning artist The Weeknd. The singer co-wrote the episode and will also appear as himself. Other guest stars in upcoming episodes include Jane Lynch, Patton Oswalt, Ron Perlman, Craig Robinson, Criss Angel, and Bill Nye.

In celebration of American Dad!'s 15th anniversary, TBS will air a curated selection of episodes focusing on different characters each day, handpicked by the series' producers, Tuesday - Friday from 4:00 - 6:00pm ET / PT, April 14 - 17 and April 21 - 24. Following that, the official American Dad! 15th anniversary marathon featuring the series co-creator's top 15 favorite episodes will take place on Monday, April 27 from 2:30 - 10:00pm ET / PT.

Pop TV announced that Hot Date, the sketch comedy series spotlighting modern-day relationship dilemmas, will return for its second season on Friday, Sept. 20 at 10:00 and 10:30 PM, ET/PT. The half-hour, 10-episode series stars real-life married couple Emily Axford and Brian Murphy, two comedians who appear in the show as heightened versions of themselves trying to figure out this thing called love. In its second season, Hot Date welcomes a swipe-right list of guest stars including Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat), Margaret Cho (Drop Dead Diva, 30 Rock) and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911, The Odd Couple). Executive produced by Will Arnett and his Electric Avenue production company, Big Breakfast, a Propagate company and Artists First, Hot Date is inspired by the popular digital comedy Hot Date, which has garnered over 100 million views to date on the CollegeHumor Originals YouTube channel.

In its second season, Hot Date will tackle the awkwardness and unpredictability of friendships, love and adulthood with the help of new characters and familiar faces from the show's freshman season. Set in a new city, New Orleans, this season will focus on the many eccentricities "The Big Easy" has to offer while remaining centered on relational comedy. YouTube Originals premiered the trailer for the highly anticipated second season of their original series Liza on Demand. Following more than 38 million views of the season one pilot, Liza on Demand will return with an all new season on September 25, 2019. Fans can get excited for the second season by binge watching the first season, which will be made available for free starting today only on YouTube. For season two, episodes will be available for free and release weekly every Wednesday. All episodes will be available to binge on launch day for YouTube Premium subscribers.

The ten episode, half-hour series follows the chaotic misadventures of Liza (Liza Koshy) and her roommates Oliver (Travis Coles, David Makes Man) and Harlow (Kimiko Glenn, Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse, Orange Is the New Black) as Liza takes on various tasks and odd jobs while trying to get ahead in the gig economy. Comedy Central continues to chase its wildest ratings dreams, delivering a huge Thursday night with the series premiere of The Other Two attracting 2.25 million total viewers, including streaming and replays. The scripted comedy from former Saturday Night Live head writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, which received rave reviews from critics and a Certified Fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes, drew a gross average audience of 849,000 total viewers across three telecasts on Thursday, along with 1.4 million views of the pilot on YouTube. The 10:30 p.m. premiere on Comedy Central posted a 0.23 P18-49 LSD rating and improved on year ago time period levels with key female demos: W18-49 (.21, +28%), W18-34 (.20, +29%) and W25-54 (.23, +28%). 

 The final season premiere of Broad City attracted a gross average audience of 734,000 total viewers across two plays on Thursday, while #BroadCity was in the top 10 Twitter Trends for an hour after it premiered. Broad City posted a .34 P18-49 rating, up +31% from the same 10 p.m. time period in 2018. Compared to last season's finale, this season's premiere was up +13% with P18-49 and +61% with W18-49 (.30 rating). Forty-five percent of the P18-49 audience was female, which is a higher composition than any prior season average. The two premieres continue Comedy Central's January hot streak, following success for original programming including Drunk History, Corporate, Ron Funches: Giggle Fit and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. 



YouTube announced that it has ordered a second season of the popular series Liza on Demand produced by Above Average Productions. Since its debut on June 27, 2018, the first episode of Liza on Demand has generated over 20 million views. The eight-episode, half-hour series will begin production this spring and debut on YouTube Premium in 2019. In Liza on Demand, viewers follow the chaotic misadventures that ensue as the eponymous character takes on various tasks and odd jobs, as she tries to get ahead in the gig economy. Featuring a young diverse cast, season one took satirical stabs at topics like gender bias and romantic tropes. Season two promises even more laughs and misadventures as Liza takes on a brand new set of challenges. Series star Liza Koshy (Freakish, Jingle Ballin', Boo! a Madea Halloween) is set to return for a second season along with cast member Travis Coles (By the Book, Superstore, Great News). Koshy has two wildly successful YouTube channels with a cumulative audience of more than 24.1 million subscribers and 2.5 billion-plus views. She is also a co-creator and executive producer of the series.

Josh Segarra, Michael-Leon Wooley, Katerina Tannenbaum, and Tia Carrere join the cast of AJ and the Queen, the upcoming Netflix comedy series starring Emmy Award-winning RuPaul Charles. The series is written by Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City) and RuPaul Charles who will both serve as executive producers. Josh Segarra will play Hector. Michael-Leon Wooley will play Louis. Katerina Tannenbaum will play Brianna. Tia Carrere will play Lady Danger. In the comedy, RuPaul stars as Ruby Red, a bigger-than-life but down-on-her-luck drag queen who travels across America from club to club in a rundown 1990's R/V with her unlikely sidekick AJ, a recently orphaned, tough-talking, scrappy 11-year-old stowaway. As these two misfits, one tall, one small, travel from city to city, Ruby's message of love and acceptance winds up touching people and changing their lives for the better. Oh, and RuPaul performs a killer musical number in every drag club.

Meanwhile, Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Melissa & Joey) & Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) will star in the multi-camera series No Good Nick, a new live action comedy series revolving around a family that welcomes a thirteen-year-old into their family before realizing she is a street-smart con artist with a secret agenda. Netflix has ordered 20 half-hour episodes. Siena Agudong (Star Falls) as the title character, Kalama Epstein (The Fosters) and Lauren Lindsey Donzis (Liv and Maddie) also star.


From YouTube Originals comes the first teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated action comedy series, Wayne, which held its world premiere at Tribeca TV Festival yesterday (Sunday, September 23). The series will launch on YouTube Premium in January 2019. In this gritty and sometimes bloody tale, fifteen year-old Wayne sets out on a dirt bike with his new crush Del to take back the 1978 Pontiac Trans Am that was stolen from his father before he died. It is Wayne and Del against the world. Wayne will star Mark McKenna (Sing Street, Kat and Alfie: Redwater) as "Wayne" and Ciara Bravo (Big Time Rush, Red Band Society) as "Del." Joshua J. Williams (Mudbound) will also recur as "Orlando". The 10 episode series is written and created by Shawn Simmons.

YouTube showcased its upcoming Original series and announced renewals for 2018/2019. From ambitious projects and compelling documentaries showcasing YouTube stars, to inventive comedies, bold dramas and live events featuring from some of the biggest names in Hollywood, YouTube continues to offer innovative programming that engages its audience. Since the launch of YouTube Originals in 2015, Original content has been viewed more than 650 million times. There is even a comedy series1 Every rapper has a crew he can't live without... and vice versa. In this new comedy starring Adam Pally (Happy Endings, The Mindy Project), Sam Richardson (Veep, Detroiters) and guest starring Jay Pharoah (Saturday Night Live, Ride Along), we see how long the crew can survive without being in the limelight. This Untitled Pally/Richardson comedy will debut exclusively on YouTube Red in 2019.

And Foursome: five months after they return from Beach Island, the seniors have already graduated and its the last summer that the Foursome is going to be together. Freeform announces its programming schedule for August 2018, which includes the season two premiere of the Freeform comedy Alone Together and the summer finales of the critically acclaimed series Marvel's Cloak & Dagger and The Bold Type. In addition, Hit Hulu Original series Marvel's Runaways will also air an encore presentation of its first season premiere on Thursday, August 2, following the season finale of Marvel's Cloak & Dagger. Additional programming arriving to Freeform this month includes the Freeform premieres of Disney's Cinderella (2015), Daddy Day Care, and The Bourne Ultimatum.

The DECADES TV Network salutes the land of the unusual and home of the fantastical with "Rod, White & Blue: A Twilight Zone Celebration," an all-day July 4th dimension event, bringing fans of the landmark American anthology TV series The Twilight Zone together this 4th of July Holiday. Viewers can enjoy 46 iconic episodes back-to-back from the original The Twilight Zone series starting at 7:00 am ET Wednesday, July 4 through 6:30 am ET Thursday, July 5. Many beloved episodes will be featured in this marathon event including: Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, The Eye of the Beholder, The Invaders, It's a Good Life, and The Monsters are Due on Maple Street.

Created by the legendary Rod Serling and originally airing from 1959-1964, The Twilight Zone featured many quest appearances by actor who would go on to film and TV stardom, and to this day remains the role model for TV anthologies. The series was among the first to introduce American TV audiences to science fiction, suspense, fantasy and psychological thrillers- all with a moral or an unexpected plot twist. "Rod, White & Blue: A Twilight Zone Celebration" on DECADES will feature guest star appearances from Ron Howard, Carol Burnett, William Shatner, Robert Redford, Dick York, Buster Keaton, Burgess Meredith, Gladys Cooper, Suzy Parker and Cloris Leachman.

YouTube has given a straight-to-series order for Weird City, a half-hour comedic sci-fi anthology co-created by Academy Award and Emmy Award winning writer Jordan Peele and Emmy Award nominated writer Charlie Sanders (Key and Peele). The six-episode series will debut exclusively on YouTube Premium in 2019. Emmy winner Adam Bernstein (Fargo, Scrubs, 30 Rock) is set to direct the first two episodes.

Weird City is an anthology set in the not-too-distant future metropolis of Weird. Each episode is an exploration of issues that pertains to present day life, stories that could only be told now through the prism of sci-fi and comedy. Weird City is written by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Key & Peele, The Last O.G.) and Charlie Sanders (Key & Peele), and produced by Monkeypaw Productions, Sonar Entertainment, Mosaic and Raskal Productions. Jose Molina (The Tick, Marvel's Agent Carter, Sleepy Hollow) will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Peele, Sanders and Bernstein will also serve as executive producers along with Win Rosenfeld who will executive produce through Monkeypaw, Tom Lesinski and Jenna Santoianni through Sonar Entertainment, Sam Hansen and Jimmy Miller through Mosaic and Keith Raskin and Linda Morel through Raskal Productions.

ABC was up at the TCA Summer 2017 press tour yesterday. There were some renewal news for their game shows, along news on the return of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, which will return in November on Friday nights at 9pm, following the conclusion of Marvel's Inhumans. Panels for new series mostly took center stage, but casts of current series like Once Upon a Time, The Middle, Grey's Anatomy were on hand. ABC announced that it is picking up season three of its hit game show Match Game, with host Alec Baldwin. Additionally, Baldwin's company, El Dorado Pictures, has inked a two-year first-look deal with ABC Studios. Two more of ABC's hit 'Fun & Games' shows, The $100,000 Pyramid and Celebrity Family Feud, have received season three and four greenlights, respectively. Both shows are currently airing on Sunday nights in the summer. No news yet on The Gong Show, but a season two renewal is likely. ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live returns to Brooklyn, New York, for five original shows starting Monday, Oct. 16, 2017 and running through Friday, Oct. 20. The show will tape before a live audience from the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Howard Gilman Opera House. This will be the third time that Kimmel and his show have broadcast from BAM. And finally, ABC and dick clark productions announced that the 2017 American Music Awards, the world's biggest fan-voted award show, will broadcast live on Sunday, Nov. 19 from 8:00-11:00 p.m. EST on ABC.

Epic adversaries return to the dojo in Cobra Kai, an all-new series that reteams Ralph Macchio and William Zabka in their star-making roles from the iconic film franchise, The Karate Kid. The 10-episode, half-hour comedy series, coming to YouTube Red in 2018, reimagines one of Hollywood's most popular tales of rivalry and redemption. Thirty years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, a down-and-out Johnny Lawrence (Zabka) seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo, reigniting his rivalry with a now successful Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), who has been struggling to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi. The show is about two men addressing past demons and present frustrations the only way they know how: through karate.

TV Land's hit series and fan favorite Younger is simulcasting coast-to-coast for a one-time-only occasion: the season four premiere on Wednesday, June 28 at 10pm ET/7pm PT, with a re-airing on the west coast at 10pm PT. All this is to celebrate the new LIVE aftershow, Getting Younger, premiering on Facebook @YoungerTV (and simulcasting on Instagram @YoungerTV with behind-the-scenes content) right after the first episode at 10:30pm ET/7:30pm PT, and immediately following every episode for the run of the season. The season premiere of Younger on TV Land will also feature live cut-ins during commercial breaks of the cast getting ready for the aftershow.

Getting Younger, hosted by Taylor Strecker of the popular SiriusXM morning show Wake Up with Taylor, will continue the enthusiastic fan conversation that occurs on social media every week and encourage viewers to submit questions and interact with other superfans and stars alike. Shot in front of a live audience at Pride Global's Flight Deck in Manhattan (420 Lexington Ave), the shows will consist of guest interviews and discussion about the preceding episode, as well as "man on the street" segments. The comedy stars Sutton Foster, Hilary Duff, Debi Mazar, Miriam Shor, Nico Tortorella, Peter Hermann and Molly Bernard. The series follows Liza (Foster), a 40-year old woman who pretends to be 26 in order to get a job in the highly competitive world of publishing – and succeeds. Last season, as Liza continued her lie, her two lives became irreversibly intertwined – with her longtime best friend, Maggie (Mazar), new friend and partner at Empirical, Kelsey (Duff), prickly boss Diana (Shor), and everyone in between, becoming part of the same world. In the season three finale, Liza came to realize the damage her secret has caused and finally unveiled the truth to Kelsey. Now Liza will be forced to deal with the fallout of her deceit and learn that the truth hurts. Some of the biggest names in movie and TV comedy will be making their way to YouTube Red this Fall. From a hilarious reinvention of the traditional cop drama by renowned comedy director Rawson Marshall Thurber, to an all-new comedic scripted series from Rob Huebel, YouTube Red is building up its comedy lineup with Hollywood veterans in front of and behind the camera. In the eight-episode, half-hour comedy Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television, the LAPD thinks it's a good idea to form a task force partnering actors with homicide detectives so they can use their "actor skills" to help solve murders. Starring Ryan Hansen (Veronica Mars, Party Down) who plays himself and guest star Samira Wiley (The Handmaid's Tale, Orange Is The New Black) as his no-nonsense partner Detective Mathers, the series features a who's who of broadcast and cable television stars playing bizarro versions of themselves including, but not limited to, Joel McHale, Jon Cryer and Kristen Bell in this super meta half hour comedy procedural which is as much about Hollywood as it is an action-comedy cop show.

Next up, Do You Want To See a Dead Body? is an eight-episode comedy series that follows comedian Rob Huebel (Childrens Hospital, Transparent) and his celebrity friends who begrudgingly join him on adventures that see them frolicking at the beach, getting tacos, ...oh...and seeing a dead body. Celebrity guest stars include Adam Scott, Judy Greer, Terry Crews, Craig Robinson, and John Cho along with many more. More details are to still to come, but expect both series this Fall!

• CBS has released the second, third, and fourth seasons of The Beverly Hillbillies on a sporadic basis since 2008, and now, they're going backwards (a bit) to release The Beverly Hillbillies - The Official First Season. Previously available only in public domain releases, as well as from some decent (though not perfect) releases from MPI, this set will arrive on April 26.

• The Andy Griffith Show - The Complete Series (DVD, $84.98): The classic sitcom is re-released in this lower-priced collection.
• The Brady Kids - The Complete Animated Series (DVD, $29.98): The animated spinoff of The Brady Bunch arrives in this release.
• Family Matters - The Complete Fifth Season (DVD, $29.99): After a brief break in releases, the former TGIF series continues with this release.
• Sabrina, the Teenage Witch - The Complete Series (DVD, $59.98): The Melissa Joan Hart sitcom arrives on DVD as a complete series for the first time in this release.
