  • Get ready for a lot more variety on MeTV Toons, as the network launches a House of Hanna-Barbera programming block with some lost treasures. (Cord Cutters News)
  • The cast of The Simpsons is getting older, and even though we hear rumblings of "this could be the last season" every year, that doesn't seem to be in the plans anytime soon. And now, Hank Azaria is concerned that the voices of the characters may outlast the people voicing them with the use of AI. (Variety)
  • There won't be a Bachelorette this upcoming summer. (Deadline)
  • In honor of the 85th anniversary, Warner Discovery has launched a 24/7 streaming channel for Tom and Jerry, and it's free to watch. (Cord Cutters News)
  • Saturday Night Live is, as fans know, celebrating the 50th anniversary, and ahead of the special event next Sunday night, the first episode will air next Saturday in the regular time slot. (Variety)
  • The final season for The Conners is set to begin later next month. (SitcomsOnline)

  • Catchy Comedy has a Mayberry RFD binge this weekend.
  • With the Super Bowl airing tomorrow night, Fox will (of course) be using the postgame slot to highlight a series, and rather than a hit scripted series or highly anticipated debut, they've chosen the game show The Floor.
  • As previously mentioned, a new 24/7 channel dedicated to Tom and Jerry has launched on YouTube.

SitcomsOnline Digest: Frasier Reboot Canceled at Paramount+; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Coming to MeTV Toons

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! After a few slow news weeks, we have more than we can even fit in here this week, including the cancelation of a reboot, a spinoff of a popular CBS show, and more. Let's get going!

  • The reboot of Frasier has been canceled after two seasons, though it is possible that new episodes may land elsewhere. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is headed to MeTV Toons. (Cord Cutters News)
  • If anything can bring an audience to broadcast TV, it's nostalgia, which makes it no surprise that Tim Allen's new show Shifting Gears is setting records for ABC that haven't been seen since the premiere of The Conners (another show with a nostalgic connection). (Deadline)
  • The Neighborhood may be getting a second spinoff. (Deadline)
  • St. Denis Medical has been renewed for a second season. (NBC)
  • Sally Struthers has had an interesting week, and we now know that she really didn't like Norman Lear or Betty White. (New York Daily News)
  • There have been a lot of television related deaths this week, including Bob Uecker and David Lynch, among others. (SitcomsOnline)
  • FETV has a new lineup coming that will feature uncut episodes of their series, and My Three Sons (no word on which seasons, as it is rare for any network to air all of them) will be part of that lineup. (SitcomsOnline)

  • The Jeffersons is 50 years old today, and Antenna TV will celebrate that with a 50 hour marathon starting tonight at 8:30 PM ET.

  • Saturday Night Live is new tonight, with host Dave Chappelle.

SitcomsOnline Digest: MeTV Announces MeTV Toons; Night Court Renewed for Third Season

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! It's been a crazy busy week this week with the announcement of a MeTV spinoff, lots of Paramount news, renewals and cancelations, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

  • We mentioned that there were rumors of this a few months ago, but MeTV Toons, a spinoff of MeTV dedicated to classic cartoons, is coming next month, and if no local channel in your area decides to pick it up, it appears it will also be available on ad-supported streaming services. (Variety)
  • The Paramount cable networks have temporarily avoided being pulled by Spectrum this week as their agreement ended while negotiations continue, but it still isn't looking great as Spectrum's goal seems to be to remove anything that isn't a top rated cable network. (Deadline)
  • Meanwhile, Paramount is still for sale, and a joint partnership between Sony and Apollo Management is the most recent offer, but some analysts feel that a sale may never actually occur. (Variety)
  • Night Court has secured a third season at NBC, and while it may not be quite a full season, it will come close. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • This is one we didn't see coming as it was widely expected that the current season would be the last, but ABC is reportedly renewing The Conners for one last (very short) season. (TVLine)
  • For the first time since he was fired by the network 19 years ago, Dan Rather is set to return to CBS News as the subject of an interview about his career at CBS News. (The Hollywood Reporter)
  • It's that time of the year, and we've got the CBS fall lineup, which is very light on sitcoms and includes a new version of Hollywood Squares with Drew Barrymore hosting. (SitcomsOnline)

WEEKLY PLANNER (MAY 4 - MAY 10)

  • Catchy Comedy has a binge of The Beverly Hillbillies this weekend, with a few "special" things included such as the extended unaired pilot and the movie Return of the Beverly Hillbillies.
  • CBS has a series finale for Bob Hearts Abishola and a season finale for The Neighborhood on Monday.
  • The season (and not series like we thought it would be) finale of The Conners airs on Wednesday.
  • Ghosts also has a season finale Thursday on CBS, but it will be back next season.
