Fri-Yay: Another Netflix Original to End as BoJack Horseman Announces Final Season; TNT Sets Halloween Supernatural Marathon

by Vincent
In a year that has seen many Netflix originals either being cancelled or coming to an end, popular animated comedy BoJack Horseman announced a few weeks ago that its upcoming sixth season will be its last. The sixth season of Bojack, which will be 16 episodes long and split into two parts (the first half will be premiering in just a few weeks, while the second half will premiere in November), will be the final run for the series. In another interesting wrinkle, BoJack voice actor Aaron Paul announced the decision to end was Netflix's, not the shows' creators.
On one hand, it does feel like creatively, it's probably about time for BoJack to come to a close. The fifth season, while still very good, had some early signs of wheel-spinning that I could definitely see becoming a bigger issue if the series continued for many more years. And since the show is about BoJack's guide to self-improvement, it was beginning to get to the point where it felt like the show continuing was actually holding BoJack back as a character a bit, since if he improves, there's...well, no more story left. Every season, with the exception of the fourth, has pretty much followed the same pattern: BoJack tries to improve himself, but gets off-path, winds up doing something really bad, and ends the season in a dark place again, but with hope that he's learned something that will help him improve. I don't mean that as a knock, because BoJack has packed each season with excellent writing, intricate character development and creative twists that kept it from feeling formulaic...but eventually, a show that plot-reliant is going to hit some diminishing returns. Still, something does sting about the fact that BoJack, which most would argue is one of Netflix's best originals (it's probably the service's most critically acclaimed series), was essentially "cancelled" by the network. Granted, I'm guessing the creative team was given enough time to give the series a proper ending, which is likely why the season is being split. But after a year that has seen Netflix axing so many beloved series, it's fair to really wonder just what, exactly, their plan is going forward.
This Halloween (Thursday, October 31, 2019), TNT is delivering fans a wickedly-sweet binge with a nine-hour Supernatural marathon, starting at 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., spanning six seasons of the most thrilling episodes from the fan-favorite series. From ghosts to monsters, haunted thieves and even Scooby-Doo, TNT is your destination for getting into the Halloween spirit. In the series, Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force twenty-six years ago. Subsequently, their father John raised them to be soldiers. He taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America ... and he taught them how to kill it.
