The Goodwin Games tells the story of three grown siblings who return home after their father's death and find themselves poised to inherit his vast fortune. The Goodwins consist of successful surgeon Henry (Scott Foley), failed child prodigy Chloe (Becki Newton), and ex-con and dim-wit guitarist Jimmy (TJ Miller). All three Goodwins have their own reasons as to why they deserve to win their late father's fortune - but they will only be able to inherit it if they follow his close instructions.

Scott Foley (Henry Goodwin) has appeared on a variety of television shows and is currently featured in the fifth season of the hit cable drama True Blood and on ABC's red-hot Scandal. In the pilot episode of the series, we meet all three Goodwins - Henry, Chloe, and Jimmy - after they return home to attend their father's funeral. However, the funeral turns out to be much more than that when they unexpectedly find themselves poised to inherit more than $20 million. However, they quickly learn that they will only be able to inherit this fortune if - and only if - they can adhere to their late father's wishes.

Analysis:
What a difference a year can make. I remember The Goodwin Games was one of the more hyped projects of last year's pilot season due to the hand of How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. At Upfront, Fox announced it would be premiering the show midseason. The hype pretty much died down from there as the show was quietly swept under the rug, until Fox finally announced its premiere date - no longer midseason, but instead, in the summer. So after all of that, I kind of expected the pilot to be a disaster. It's actually not! But it is kind of ho-hum, and clearly inferior to Ben & Kate, which wound up on the fall schedule in the show's place. (Ben & Kate would eventually fall victim to the ax, but it was quite an enjoyable little show while it was on). There are several things the pilot does well - I really liked the potential relationship between the three siblings it boasted. The show very clearly defined who they were, why they became estranged from each other, and what issues they're going to have to work out. It's not at all hard to imagine countless good stories about the three of them getting re-acquainted with each other and working out their conflicts. The characters in the pilot, despite being somewhat stereotypical, had enough depth that you could eventually see the show moving beyond their stereotypes.
Unfortunately, there are a handful of issues with the pilot that hold it back from being as good as it could be. The biggest problem is that it's almost completely laugh-free. It has a lot of instances of something critics call "like-a-jokes" - they sound like jokes, but they just don't really deliver. This isn't helped by TJ Miller, who is certainly a funny guy, but whose somewhat outlandish humor stylings just don't really mesh with the show's laid-back vibe. (The role of Jimmy was originally supposed to go to Jake Lacey, but he wound up on the final season of The Office instead, and he seemed like a better fit than Miller). Another issue I had is that it never gets as interesting as its concept suggests it could. The idea of a family competing for money in a will has the potential to churn out some really fresh material for a sitcom, but the pilot mostly carries it through by-the-numbers schlock and predictable plots - pretty much every plot beat the show hit was one I saw coming a mile away. I don't expect sitcom pilots to floor me in the plot department, but following such trite formulas is rarely a good sign.

Considering how Fox buried this show, I was honestly expecting a lot worse from this pilot. It's not bad at all, and I don't feel like I wasted my time watching it or anything - high praise, I know! The problem is it's not necessarily good, either. There are elements here that suggest a show that could become good, but there are also plenty of elements that suggest it's a show with an interesting concept that has no idea how to put that concept to good use. Which path the show takes may be made more clear by future episodes, but the pilot itself doesn't really offer a lot of promise.
That said, the things the show does well - characterization, relationship-building - are integral aspects of a good comedy, so I do think that given time, The Goodwin Games could probably develop into a fine show, even if it's one that doesn't stand out as much as its premise suggests it could. I sort of doubt it will be given that time, given its current position, and I don't know that the world really needed another "good enough" family comedy anyway, but there's enough here that does make me wonder if there could be a show here if it was given time to be something. I suspect we'll never know, but hey...weirder things have happened, I guess

Moving on to some news, we broke on Twitter on Friday that Fox will be airing episodes of the FX comedy Anger Management this June following encores of New Girl in its summer home of Mondays. The Charlie Sheen sitcom will air for four weeks, Mondays at 9:30pm beginning Monday, June 3. In fact, the first two weeks (June 3 and 10) will be episodes that have not been aired on FX yet, so they are completely brand new. The latter two weeks (June 17 and 24) will be repeats. The sitcom will preempt reruns of The Mindy Project for these four weeks only. Anger Management airs on FX every Thursday at 9:30pm. Fox is airing comedies on Mondays all summer starting tonight with reruns of Raising Hope at 8, new series The Goodwin Games at 8:30pm, reruns of New Girl at 9 and Anger Management at 9:30pm (sharing the time period with reruns of The Mindy Project, which launches tonight).
In Anger Management, Charlie Sheen stars as Charlie, a non-traditional therapist specializing in anger management. He has a successful private practice, holding sessions with his group of primary patient regulars each week, as well as performing pro-Bono counseling for an inmate group at a state prison. Prior to his career as a therapist, Charlie was a major league baseball player whose career was sidetracked by his own struggle with anger issues. After making it to the majors and having one terrific season, his anger issues put him on the shelf for good when he snapped a bat over his leg, resulting in a career-ending injury. That injury led him back to school and to his current profession. Charlie thrives on the chaos in his life while still battling his own anger issues. His life is complicated by his relationships with his own therapist and best friend (Selma Blair), his ex-wife (Shawnee Smith) whose positive outlook but poor life choices frustrate Charlie, their 15 year-old daughter who has OCD (Daniela Bobadilla), and of course, his interfering and meddlesome father, Martin (Martin Sheen). Blair, Smith, Bobadilla, Barry Corbin, Michael Arden, Derek Richardson and Noureen DeWulf all co-star. Bruce Helford serves as Executive Producer/Showrunner. Week 34 TV Ratings and Analysis; How the Sitcoms Did
2012-13 Week 34 TV Ratings (first four nights, Mon-Thu):
Tonight ABC Sunday is all-new from 7-11pm. The season finale of AFV kicks it off, followed by the Billboard Music Awards from 8-11. I think it will be a first place finish for ABC but Fox will make it close. NBC devotes the night to The Voice repeats from 7-9pm, which will struggle a bit then the season finale of Celebrity Apprentice: All-Stars from 9-11, which has struggled. NBC will likely finish in third or fourth. CBS has 60 Minutes at 7, followed by another episode leading into an ACM special from 9-11pm. It'll be an older skewing night for CBS, so a third or fourth place finish. Fox's animation block is all-new from 7-10pm with three one-hour finales, and could be enough for second for the night or even first.
As for the week (week 34), Fox might hang on to take the week in 18-49 over the rest I think because of the three one-hour finales tonight. I'm thinking, ABC will likely be in second in 18-49 thanks to the Awards tonight, but CBS and NBC will be close. For total viewers, CBS will remain first. ABC will be second over Fox, followed by NBC in a competitive fourth. As for the coming week (week 35), we are down to the final three days of the season as summer starts on Thursday. What a fast season!
Summing it up. The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, The Office were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as New Girl, How To Live With Your Parents) or just plain terrible (such as The Mindy Project, Family Tools).

Week 34 (May 13-19) Analysis: And now we just have one more week left. Through the final first four night network averages, CBS is in first in HH/total viewers and it is photo finish so far in adults 18-49, with Fox having the slight edge. CBS is a very close second and NBC is immediately right behind them. ABC is fourth and a bit further away, but still close enough to make a run, especially with the Billboard Music Awards tonight. In HH/viewers, CBS has the lead over ABC, with Fox above normal and in third, beating NBC. When the week is done, it's anyone's game in 18-49. I'm thinking Fox will take it and ABC will make it close, especially with a good night tonight. CBS will take total viewers for sure and the others will likely remain in the same position as they are right now through the first four nights. More on that later. As for the previous week, week 33, CBS took home first in adults 18-49 with a 2.02 rating, compared to a 1.86 for second place ABC. Rounding it out was NBC close behind with a 1.80 and Fox in fourth with a 1.71. Among total viewers, it was of course CBS on top easily over second place ABC. NBC was third here as well, while Fox had to settle for fourth in this as well.
Monday had NBC win once again but CBS stepped it up a bit with some finales. But first, ABC started with a two-hour Dancing with the Stars from 8-10pm and did 13.33 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, which is on par really in 18-49 with previous week. Then Castle had its season finale at 10 and did 11.16 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week and good for a first place finish once again. For NBC, they had the two-hour The Voice from 8-10pm that did 11.29 million and a 3.8 18-49 rating, which is down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week for another Monday season low. It should spike up tomorrow again with lesser competition. At 10pm, NBC aired Revolution and did 5.51 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week, as this series will be on the move to Wednesdays next season and I don't think it will be pretty. CBS was all-new, with the season finale of How I Met Your Mother starting it off with 8.57 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, which is up a big eight tenths in 18-49 week-to-week. Nice as it enters its final season next season. At 8:30pm, a repeat of The Big Bang Theory aired and did 7.55 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, expect more from this show in repeats but it did beat previous week's all-new Rules of Engagement by three tenths in 18-49. At 9, the season finale of Broke Girls did 8.94 million and a 3.0 18-49 rating, up three tenths in 18-49 from previous week, but still not the best of the block. Will it do better next season as the anchor? At 9:30pm, a new Mike & Molly did 8.31 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. This series will start next season on the bench but still has a 22-episode order. At 10pm, Hawaii Five-0 was new and did 7.86 million and just a 1.8 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Fox aired a special Hell's Kitchen at 8 and did 4.19 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, solid for a special night. At 9pm, another new episode aired and did a similar 3.89 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating. Fox did way better than previous week when it faltered with a special and a repeat. The CW aired a 90210 Retrospective at 8 and did just 0.57 million and a 0.2 18-49 rating, which is a tenth lower in 18-49 from previous week's all-new episode of Oh Sit! Not good. At 9, 90210 had its series finale and did 0.51 million and a 0.2 18-49 rating, horrible and down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Not good at all and CW looks like made the right call.
On Tuesday, it was a tie between CBS and NBC in 18-49. On CBS, NCIS had its season finale at 8 and did 18.79 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, which is up three tenths in 18-49 week-to-week. Still don't get why CBS airs the finale for this show a week earlier when repeats air the following week. At 9pm, the season finale of NCIS: Los Angeles did 13.52 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49. At 10pm, the finale of Golden Boy did a last place 6.91 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week and it is canceled. On ABC, at 8pm a special night of Wipeout did 4.46 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week's Splash finale. At 9pm, Dancing with the Stars: The Results did 11.87 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week, as we said goodbye to Ingo. At 10pm, Body of Proof was all-new and did 8.6 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. I think they should have brought it back next season for a mid-season option. NBC aired the Tuesday The Voice with a repeat this time starting it off at 8 and did 6.68 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating. At 9pm, it was all-new and did 10.47 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, easily #1 in the time period but down about two tenths in 18-49 from previous week when it was two-hours. At 10pm, a new Grimm did 5.36 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, down another tenth in 18-49 from previous week. NBC will keep this show on Fridays next season. Fox started with the season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance at 8 and did 5.12 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, on par with previous week's Hell's Kitchen airing in the timeslot. At 9pm, New Girl had its season finale and did 4.07 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, which is on par in 18-49 with previous week, so no finale bump. At 9:30pm, the season finale of The Mindy Project did just 2.57 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, and again on par in 18-49 with previous week. The CW aired the movie Leap Year from 8-10pm and did 0.89 million and a 0.3 18-49 rating.
Wednesday it was Fox with the win with the first part of the American Idol finale but it was way down from last year. But first, CBS started the night off with two repeats of 2 Broke Girls at 8, with the first one doing 3.8 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, while the second one did 3.91 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating. Criminal Minds was new at 9 and did 10.56 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, which was up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Look for the two-hour finale this Wednesday. At 10pm, CSI had its season finale and did 9.53 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. ABC kicked off the night with a new The Middle doing 6.76 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, which is up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Week three of Family Tools was next at 8:30pm and did just 4.54 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. Not good, but ABC already said it will not be back next season. At 9pm, a new Modern Family did the best of the block and the best of the night with 10.03 million and a 3.7 18-49 rating, up four tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Season finale is this Wednesday, look for our review of the brilliant episode at noon on Wednesday! The seventh episode of How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) followed at 9:30pm with 6.14 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. Still shocked, ABC will not bring it back next season. I think it deserved to return. At 10pm, Nashville was new and did 5.56 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. On Fox, part one of the American Idol was only an hour and did a solid 12.11 million and a 3.0 18-49 rating, up just a tenth in 18-49 from previous week when it was two-hours. At 9pm, a new So You Think You Can Dance aired and did 7.01 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, better than the previous night. Onto NBC a new Dateline started it off at 8pm with 5.79 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, which was of course way lower than previous week's The Voice in this slot. Law & Order: SVU followed at 9pm with a new episode that did 6.48 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, down four tenths in 18-49 from previous week. At 10pm, Chicago Fire was also new and did 6.9 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, which was up two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. It will be moving to Tuesdays next fall. The CW aired a new episode of its hit Arrow and did 2.77 million and a 0.9 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. At 9pm, a new Supernatural did 2.31 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, as usual - solid and younger-skewing, and also on par in 18-49 with previous week.
On Thursday, it was Fox with the win with the Idol finale, but it was way down from last year. Starting with ABC, week two of Wipeout aired at 8 and did 3.81 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week's premiere. It will do better this week and beyond when the season is over. At 9pm, Grey's Anatomy had its season finale and did 8.99 million and a 3.1 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. Excellent opposite a lot of big events. At 10pm, ABC aired the season finale of TV's #1 show at 10pm Scandal doing 9.12 million and a 3.2 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week's series high. It did better in the top 25 markets, doing a 3.8 18-49. Wow. It's the hottest drama on TV! A repeat followed at 8:30pm with 11.83 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, which is only two tenths in 18-49 off from previous week's Men finale, wow. At 9, Elementary had its two-hour season finale and did 8.98 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week when it aired at 10pm. Fox had the two-hour American Idol finale from 8-10:08pm and did 14.31 million and a 3.6 18-49 rating, which was up seven tenths in 18-49 from previous week but it was wayyyyyy down from last season's finale. NBC started the night with a retrospective on The Office and did 4.43 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, which is solid and better than the usual airings in the hour. The 75-minute series finale of The Office followed from 9-10:15pm and did 5.69 million and a 3.0 18-49 rating, which is up seven tenths in 18-49 from previous week one-hour airing. I guessed it would do a 3, and that's what it did. Not bad, but of course not its best performance. At 10:15pm, NBC aired week seven of new drama Hannibal doing just 2.46 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week despite the larger lead-in. Still no decision on its return next season, at this point it shouldn't be back. The CW's big gun Vampire Diaries aired its season finale at 8 doing 2.24 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. At 9, Beauty and the Beast had its season finale and did 1.26 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. It was picked-up for a second season, and is on the move to Mondays.
Now, final numbers for Friday and Saturday are not available, but we have prelim ratings. On Friday, ABC had the top show as usual and also took the night once again. At 8pm, Undercover Boss finale on CBS was way down from previous week as it lost to a special all-new Shark Tank on ABC. Dateline was next for NBC. Kitchen Nightmare was a repeat on Fox. At 9pm, Friday's #1 show had its season finale and of course that is ABC's Shark Tank and it crushed the competition. Dateline was a distant second for NBC, followed by a repeat of Undercover Boss on CBS and a repeat of Fox's Bones was way behind. At 10pm, 20/20 on ABC was far and away the best, while the now-canceled Rock Center with Brian Williams on NBC jumped to second as CBS settled for third with a special 48 Hours.
Saturday was low rated and Fox had the low-rated win with a marathon of repeats of Cops from 8-10. NBC had a repeat of Grimm at 8pm that was tied for second with ABC's Bet On Your Baby, beating CBS' Elementary repeat. At 9pm, a new 20/20 Saturday was second behind Fox beating repeats of SVU on NBC and Criminal Minds on CBS. At 10pm, a repeat of SNL at 10 grew from the lead-in but NBC was last place behind the second hour of ABC 20/20 and CBS' 48 Hours.
Monday had NBC win once again but CBS stepped it up a bit with some finales. But first, ABC started with a two-hour Dancing with the Stars from 8-10pm and did 13.33 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, which is on par really in 18-49 with previous week. Then Castle had its season finale at 10 and did 11.16 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week and good for a first place finish once again. For NBC, they had the two-hour The Voice from 8-10pm that did 11.29 million and a 3.8 18-49 rating, which is down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week for another Monday season low. It should spike up tomorrow again with lesser competition. At 10pm, NBC aired Revolution and did 5.51 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week, as this series will be on the move to Wednesdays next season and I don't think it will be pretty. CBS was all-new, with the season finale of How I Met Your Mother starting it off with 8.57 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, which is up a big eight tenths in 18-49 week-to-week. Nice as it enters its final season next season. At 8:30pm, a repeat of The Big Bang Theory aired and did 7.55 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, expect more from this show in repeats but it did beat previous week's all-new Rules of Engagement by three tenths in 18-49. At 9, the season finale of Broke Girls did 8.94 million and a 3.0 18-49 rating, up three tenths in 18-49 from previous week, but still not the best of the block. Will it do better next season as the anchor? At 9:30pm, a new Mike & Molly did 8.31 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. This series will start next season on the bench but still has a 22-episode order. At 10pm, Hawaii Five-0 was new and did 7.86 million and just a 1.8 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Fox aired a special Hell's Kitchen at 8 and did 4.19 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, solid for a special night. At 9pm, another new episode aired and did a similar 3.89 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating. Fox did way better than previous week when it faltered with a special and a repeat. The CW aired a 90210 Retrospective at 8 and did just 0.57 million and a 0.2 18-49 rating, which is a tenth lower in 18-49 from previous week's all-new episode of Oh Sit! Not good. At 9, 90210 had its series finale and did 0.51 million and a 0.2 18-49 rating, horrible and down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Not good at all and CW looks like made the right call.
On Tuesday, it was a tie between CBS and NBC in 18-49. On CBS, NCIS had its season finale at 8 and did 18.79 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, which is up three tenths in 18-49 week-to-week. Still don't get why CBS airs the finale for this show a week earlier when repeats air the following week. At 9pm, the season finale of NCIS: Los Angeles did 13.52 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49. At 10pm, the finale of Golden Boy did a last place 6.91 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week and it is canceled. On ABC, at 8pm a special night of Wipeout did 4.46 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week's Splash finale. At 9pm, Dancing with the Stars: The Results did 11.87 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week, as we said goodbye to Ingo. At 10pm, Body of Proof was all-new and did 8.6 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. I think they should have brought it back next season for a mid-season option. NBC aired the Tuesday The Voice with a repeat this time starting it off at 8 and did 6.68 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating. At 9pm, it was all-new and did 10.47 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, easily #1 in the time period but down about two tenths in 18-49 from previous week when it was two-hours. At 10pm, a new Grimm did 5.36 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, down another tenth in 18-49 from previous week. NBC will keep this show on Fridays next season. Fox started with the season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance at 8 and did 5.12 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, on par with previous week's Hell's Kitchen airing in the timeslot. At 9pm, New Girl had its season finale and did 4.07 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, which is on par in 18-49 with previous week, so no finale bump. At 9:30pm, the season finale of The Mindy Project did just 2.57 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, and again on par in 18-49 with previous week. The CW aired the movie Leap Year from 8-10pm and did 0.89 million and a 0.3 18-49 rating.
Wednesday it was Fox with the win with the first part of the American Idol finale but it was way down from last year. But first, CBS started the night off with two repeats of 2 Broke Girls at 8, with the first one doing 3.8 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, while the second one did 3.91 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating. Criminal Minds was new at 9 and did 10.56 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, which was up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Look for the two-hour finale this Wednesday. At 10pm, CSI had its season finale and did 9.53 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. ABC kicked off the night with a new The Middle doing 6.76 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, which is up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Week three of Family Tools was next at 8:30pm and did just 4.54 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. Not good, but ABC already said it will not be back next season. At 9pm, a new Modern Family did the best of the block and the best of the night with 10.03 million and a 3.7 18-49 rating, up four tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Season finale is this Wednesday, look for our review of the brilliant episode at noon on Wednesday! The seventh episode of How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) followed at 9:30pm with 6.14 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. Still shocked, ABC will not bring it back next season. I think it deserved to return. At 10pm, Nashville was new and did 5.56 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. On Fox, part one of the American Idol was only an hour and did a solid 12.11 million and a 3.0 18-49 rating, up just a tenth in 18-49 from previous week when it was two-hours. At 9pm, a new So You Think You Can Dance aired and did 7.01 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, better than the previous night. Onto NBC a new Dateline started it off at 8pm with 5.79 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, which was of course way lower than previous week's The Voice in this slot. Law & Order: SVU followed at 9pm with a new episode that did 6.48 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, down four tenths in 18-49 from previous week. At 10pm, Chicago Fire was also new and did 6.9 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, which was up two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. It will be moving to Tuesdays next fall. The CW aired a new episode of its hit Arrow and did 2.77 million and a 0.9 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. At 9pm, a new Supernatural did 2.31 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, as usual - solid and younger-skewing, and also on par in 18-49 with previous week.

Tonight ABC Sunday is all-new from 7-11pm. The season finale of AFV kicks it off, followed by the Billboard Music Awards from 8-11. I think it will be a first place finish for ABC but Fox will make it close. NBC devotes the night to The Voice repeats from 7-9pm, which will struggle a bit then the season finale of Celebrity Apprentice: All-Stars from 9-11, which has struggled. NBC will likely finish in third or fourth. CBS has 60 Minutes at 7, followed by another episode leading into an ACM special from 9-11pm. It'll be an older skewing night for CBS, so a third or fourth place finish. Fox's animation block is all-new from 7-10pm with three one-hour finales, and could be enough for second for the night or even first.
As for the week (week 34), Fox might hang on to take the week in 18-49 over the rest I think because of the three one-hour finales tonight. I'm thinking, ABC will likely be in second in 18-49 thanks to the Awards tonight, but CBS and NBC will be close. For total viewers, CBS will remain first. ABC will be second over Fox, followed by NBC in a competitive fourth. As for the coming week (week 35), we are down to the final three days of the season as summer starts on Thursday. What a fast season!

- Bob's Burgers (Fox) - A new showing at 8:30pm did 3.38 million and a 1.64 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week.

Digital Digest: Family Ties, The Office, and More in August; Route 66 - The Complete Fourth Season DVD Review
Welcome to Digital Digest! This weekend, we've got a review of Route 66 - The Complete Fourth Season, and of course, we have all of your regular features. Let's get going!
DIGITAL NEWS
Last week, we mentioned Family Ties - The Seventh Season is now available to pre-order, but now we have a date for this highly anticipated release of the final season of the series. It is scheduled for release on August 13... which, by the way will be a very busy date for releases across the board! Another release that is coming on that same date is another final release, this time for Perry Mason. CBS will be releasing Perry Mason - Season 9, Volume 2 to stores on this same date.
It won't just be the old series getting all of the releases on August 13, though! Universal has two releases of some of their current series, and once again, one of these is a final season release. That release is, of course, The Office - Season Nine (DVD, Blu-ray/Digital Copy). It isn't completely clear if the Blu-ray/Digital Copy release will include the DVDs (as was included in the Season Eight version), but we'll let you know whenever we know.
Somewhat related to The Office is the current series of former cast member Mindy Kaling, and her current series The Mindy Project is also coming to DVD on (you guessed it) August 13. The Mindy Project - Season One will come at a $29.99 MSRP.

Blog DVD Review: Route 66 - The Complete Fourth Season (Shout!, $29.93)

The video and audio quality for these sets has been very much hit or miss along the way, but I think it is pretty safe to say that it has been "hit" for this season. Some of the very early season 1 episodes had some weird cropping issues done by the previous studio that released the series, not Shout! Factory. Since the other studio never released this season, it was really in Shout! Factory's hands to prepare this season for DVD, and they did an excellent job on quality. The episodes are not closed-captioned.
There are no special features on the standalone release of the fourth season, although you can find some in the complete series release of the series.
I really enjoyed this season of the series... in fact, I wouldn't even say that the series went "downhill" in this season as shows often do. I thought that it was pretty interesting how this season seemed to begin signaling changes that were coming ahead in American culture and society. In particular, this was probably one of the first series, especially in this season, to actually acknowledge that something was going on in Vietnam, particularly indicated by the episode where a Vietnam veteran (Linc) attacks one of his fellow soldiers whom he felt was responsible for the death of two other soldiers. It really makes me wonder how the series would have handled the wave of protests and dissidence that really didn't even start until about a year after the series ended.
I'll just be perfectly honest in my assessment of this set. First, I should acknowledge that even though I am reviewing the fourth season, the set that I actually own is Route 66 - The Complete Series, which includes a nearly identical fourth season set (same packaging, episodes, and disc authoring... the only difference is that the complete series version of the fourth season includes a bonus disc). If you already own the Route 66 DVD sets that were released by Infinity, then I don't see any problem with buying the Shout! Factory set to complete your collection. But if you own none of the previous releases of the series, skip this standalone season four release and head straight to the complete series release. You'll have a much nicer collection, and it really isn't a very expensive set. In either case, you'll find that Shout! Factory did a pretty good job (aside from complaints about some of the season 1 episodes), and you can enjoy the journey across the country from beginning to end.

Route 66 on TV.com
It's been a while since we've taken a journey along Route 66, but last time, we saw some changes in that journey. The series still follows two guys as they travel across the country in their Corvette, finding odd jobs and new friendships along the way. But at the end of the third season, George Maharis (who played Buz) left the show and was replaced by Glenn Corbett in the role of Linc Case. But the journey is far from over. In Route 66 - The Complete Fourth Season, fans can enjoy the final 23 episodes of this classic anthology series, and see where the journey takes Tod (Martin Milner) and Linc as they finish up their journey along Route 66.
The season begins with "Two Strangers and an Old Enemy," where a former World War II air ace and his plane are suddenly missing. Tom Bosley and Joan Crawford guest star in "Same Picture, Different Frame," where Linc has to protect a summer camp counselor. William Shatner and Audra Lindley guest star in "Build Your Houses with Their Backs to the Sea." In "And Make Thunder His Tribute," Linc and Tod get involved in a farming family dispute in Minnesota. Tod and Linc's car break down in "I Wouldn't Start From Here," but they find help from a farmer who has no modern conveniences. A very young Stefanie Powers plays a reporter in "A Cage in Search of a Bird."
Jean Stapleton guest stars in "93 Per Cent in Smiling," where a neighbor's baby son turns up missing. In "Child of a Night," Tod and Linc attempt to fulfill a dying man's wish: to deliver $38,000 to the child of a woman he met 25 years ago. Linc violently attacks a man for seemingly no reason in "Like This, It Means Father... Like This - Bitter... Like This - Tiger...," but as it turns out, there is a reason, and it has to do with Vietnam. Linc has to fill in for the role of a boxer in "Cries of Persons Close to One." In "Who in His Right Mind Needs a Nice Girl," a shy librarian is attracted to a drifter, but he has a huge secret that would probably make her regret being with him. A teenager accidentally kills his only friend in "Follow the White Dove with the Broken Wing," and things are about to get bad for Tod and Linc as well. The route comes to an end for both Tod and Linc in the two part series finale, "Where There's a Will, There's a Way."

William Shatner and Audra Lindley guest star in "Build Your Houses with Their Backs to the Sea." In "And Make Thunder His Tribute," Linc and Tod get involved in a farming family dispute in Minnesota. Tod and Linc's car break down in "I Wouldn't Start From Here," but they find help from a farmer who has no modern conveniences. A very young Stefanie Powers plays a reporter in "A Cage in Search of a Bird."
Jean Stapleton guest stars in "93 Per Cent in Smiling," where a neighbor's baby son turns up missing. In "Child of a Night," Tod and Linc attempt to fulfill a dying man's wish: to deliver $38,000 to the child of a woman he met 25 years ago. Linc violently attacks a man for seemingly no reason in "Like This, It Means Father... Like This - Bitter... Like This - Tiger...," but as it turns out, there is a reason, and it has to do with Vietnam. Linc has to fill in for the role of a boxer in "Cries of Persons Close to One." In "Who in His Right Mind Needs a Nice Girl," a shy librarian is attracted to a drifter, but he has a huge secret that would probably make her regret being with him. A teenager accidentally kills his only friend in "Follow the White Dove with the Broken Wing," and things are about to get bad for Tod and Linc as well. The route comes to an end for both Tod and Linc in the two part series finale, "Where There's a Will, There's a Way."

The video and audio quality for these sets has been very much hit or miss along the way, but I think it is pretty safe to say that it has been "hit" for this season. Some of the very early season 1 episodes had some weird cropping issues done by the previous studio that released the series, not Shout! Factory. Since the other studio never released this season, it was really in Shout! Factory's hands to prepare this season for DVD, and they did an excellent job on quality. The episodes are not closed-captioned.
There are no special features on the standalone release of the fourth season, although you can find some in the complete series release of the series.
I really enjoyed this season of the series... in fact, I wouldn't even say that the series went "downhill" in this season as shows often do. I thought that it was pretty interesting how this season seemed to begin signaling changes that were coming ahead in American culture and society. In particular, this was probably one of the first series, especially in this season, to actually acknowledge that something was going on in Vietnam, particularly indicated by the episode where a Vietnam veteran (Linc) attacks one of his fellow soldiers whom he felt was responsible for the death of two other soldiers. It really makes me wonder how the series would have handled the wave of protests and dissidence that really didn't even start until about a year after the series ended.
I'll just be perfectly honest in my assessment of this set. First, I should acknowledge that even though I am reviewing the fourth season, the set that I actually own is Route 66 - The Complete Series, which includes a nearly identical fourth season set (same packaging, episodes, and disc authoring... the only difference is that the complete series version of the fourth season includes a bonus disc). If you already own the Route 66 DVD sets that were released by Infinity, then I don't see any problem with buying the Shout! Factory set to complete your collection. But if you own none of the previous releases of the series, skip this standalone season four release and head straight to the complete series release. You'll have a much nicer collection, and it really isn't a very expensive set. In either case, you'll find that Shout! Factory did a pretty good job (aside from complaints about some of the season 1 episodes), and you can enjoy the journey across the country from beginning to end.

Claim to Fame: Although she started her career on the stage, Florence Henderson made early appearances on TV filling in for Johnny Carson as guest host on The Tonight Show. Later, she had a stint on The Today Show (when Matt Lauer was only a child, for what it is worth). But what she became best known for was her role as Carol Brady on The Brady Bunch, and although she has remained active since then, that is a character that she will always be known and loved for.
Why You Should Follow Her: Florence Henderson played one of America's favorite TV moms, and we all love her for that. But a lot of who she is in real life seems to be a lot like Carol Brady, and is a very gentle person who loves maintaining an active career, loves her "made for TV" family, and loves her fans. She really does embody the spirit of that character that she played on TV four decades ago, and she'll still be around to entertain us for many more years.

USA Network Upfront 2013: First Comedies Ordered, Plus Modern Family Reruns; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of May 20, 2013)
We were on hand yesterday at the USA Network upfront and we have some sitcom news for USA Network! USA Network greenlit its first original half-hour comedies, with series orders for Sirens from Denis Leary (Rescue Me) and Bob Fisher (Wedding Crashers) and Playing House from Jessica St. Clair (Bridesmaids, In The Motherhood) and Lennon Parham (Best Friends Forever, Accidentally On Purpose). The network also picked up a new comedy pilot, Love Is Dead for consideration. The two new comedies will debut in the first quarter of 2014, and will be strong complements to off-network acquisition Modern Family, the award-winning and top-rated comedy, which premieres on USA Tuesday, September 24 at 8|7c. The announcement was made in conjunction with USA's Upfront (#USAupfront), which was held yesterday at Pier 36 in New York.
Single-camera comedy Sirens follows three of Chicago's best EMTs whose sometimes silly, self-righteous and even self-destructive personalities make them unqualified for sustaining relationships, friendships and most occupations. They are, however, uniquely qualified for saving anyone who winds up in their ambulance. Based on a UK format, Sirens stars Michael Mosley (Pan Am), Kevin Daniels (Modern Family), Jessica McNamee and Kevin Bigley. Leary and Fisher co-wrote the pilot and both executive produce the series. Filmed on location in Chicago, the series is from Apostle and Fox Television Studios, in conjunction with Daybreak Pictures.
Playing House is a single-camera buddy comedy about what happens when two best friends come back together, just when they need each other most. The original half-hour series is inspired by the ultra-close friendship between St. Clair and Parham. In Playing House, when mother to-be Maggie (Parham) asks her single and career-driven best friend Emma (St. Clair) to return home from her job overseas to attend her baby shower, she has no idea what's truly in store. Parham and St. Clair co-wrote the presentation and will executive produce the series. As for that comedy pilot, Love Is Dead (pilot order): This single-camera comedy is set at a unique company that specializes in breaking-up romantic relationships -- rationally, compassionately, thoroughly -- on behalf of those who are willing to pay to not be around when it happens. It's the unconventional romantic comedy that asks: "Why, if love is so fickle, do we keep coming back for more?" Stay with us for info on that if it gets picked-up to series. COZI TV, the network developed by the NBC Owned Television Stations division of NBCUniversal, announced that Pushing It, a new reality television show starring Jenny Skoog, a modern day birthing coach and personal trainer, will premiere on Sunday, June 2 at 9 PM ET. This series will follow Skoog and her adventures coaching and training three very driven New York City women. From a lawyer living the high life, to a very pregnant top-tier modeling agent, to a first-time mom trying to regain her fitness regime, Skoog delivers some tough love and important advice to these women from all walks of life, helping them get their bodies in shape before, during and after pregnancy and assisting in navigating life's challenges.
The network also of course airs classic TV series such as The Bionic Woman, The Six Million Dollar Man, Magnum P.I. and Charlie's Angels and that will continue. Hopefully some more classic TV series are added soon and we hear they might be soon (maybe summer of fall?). ABC's Comedy Wednesday anchor starring an ensemble cast lead by Ed O'Neill, airs Wednesday nights at 9:00pm and we have just watched the next episode that airs tonight (May 15). In the episode airing tonight, "Games People Play," Phil (Ty Burrell) gets a brand new RV with high hopes of going on a fun family road trip, and Claire (Julie Bowen) decides to let him learn the hard way why this will likely be a terrible idea. Meanwhile, Manny (Rico Rodriguez) has misplaced his backpack and Jay (Ed O'Neill) and Gloria (Sofia Vergara) go with him on a hunt for it, breaking into Claire's house and then into Mitchell's (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) house -- where they do some over-the-top snooping; and Lily's (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) gymnastics meet brings out an unrivaled competitive spirit in Mitch and Cam (Eric Stonestreet).
This is a classic Modern Family episode. Even though they are all not together and split up in three different storylines, the themes are similar and as always the show is so relateable. This episode is all about playing games or mind games with each other. Usually one of the B-storylines is never as good as the main storyline on sitcoms, but not on this episode of this award-winning comedy. All three are so well done and I was interested in what was going to happen next on each one. In the first one, the Dunphy's get a new RV and go on a little family trip and everything is going as smooth as you would see on something like Ozzie & Harriet but Claire is not loving it actually. Are Phil and the kids playing mind games with Claire? There are some hilarious antics going on including Phil going Gangnam style with Haley and Alex. Another classic Phil Dunphy moment. The next storyline features Jay and Gloria trying to help Manny retrace his steps and find his missing backpack. On the road to finding it, we have some great funny moments and Gloria as usual shines with hilarious lines. We even get a little pictionary game between Jay and Gloria and it is almost as comical as that very cool Modern Family Oscar promo a couple years ago. It was a nice homage to that. Once again, we get some game playing in this storyline as well. The final storyline brings out the real game playing where Lily is competing in a gymnastics meet. You would think Cameron would be the competitive parent, but Mitchell surprises and shows in an amusing way that Lily is the best one out there and no one can beat her.
It's a solid installment and it is the penultimate episode of the season. This episode was actually produced as the last episode but it isn't airing as the finale. We'll have a review of the finale next week, so come on back for that. As for this episode, it brings in the competitive juice and it entertains. It's a jovial episode and each character is showcased and that is the core of this show, to show each character equally. Phil Dunphy is the best I think but each character is needed to make this show what it is. Even Lily has shined since she grew up and delivers hilarious "oh my god" moments. Watch tonight because the family is playing games and there is no basketball hoop or baseball bat needed. A-

Meanwhile, Manny (Rico Rodriguez) has misplaced his backpack and Jay (Ed O'Neill) and Gloria (Sofia Vergara) go with him on a hunt for it, breaking into Claire's house and then into Mitchell's (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) house -- where they do some over-the-top snooping; and Lily's (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) gymnastics meet brings out an unrivaled competitive spirit in Mitch and Cam (Eric Stonestreet).
This is a classic Modern Family episode. Even though they are all not together and split up in three different storylines, the themes are similar and as always the show is so relateable. This episode is all about playing games or mind games with each other. Usually one of the B-storylines is never as good as the main storyline on sitcoms, but not on this episode of this award-winning comedy. All three are so well done and I was interested in what was going to happen next on each one. In the first one, the Dunphy's get a new RV and go on a little family trip and everything is going as smooth as you would see on something like Ozzie & Harriet but Claire is not loving it actually. Are Phil and the kids playing mind games with Claire? There are some hilarious antics going on including Phil going Gangnam style with Haley and Alex. Another classic Phil Dunphy moment. The next storyline features Jay and Gloria trying to help Manny retrace his steps and find his missing backpack. On the road to finding it, we have some great funny moments and Gloria as usual shines with hilarious lines. We even get a little pictionary game between Jay and Gloria and it is almost as comical as that very cool Modern Family Oscar promo a couple years ago. It was a nice homage to that. Once again, we get some game playing in this storyline as well. The final storyline brings out the real game playing where Lily is competing in a gymnastics meet. You would think Cameron would be the competitive parent, but Mitchell surprises and shows in an amusing way that Lily is the best one out there and no one can beat her.
It's a solid installment and it is the penultimate episode of the season. This episode was actually produced as the last episode but it isn't airing as the finale. We'll have a review of the finale next week, so come on back for that. As for this episode, it brings in the competitive juice and it entertains. It's a jovial episode and each character is showcased and that is the core of this show, to show each character equally. Phil Dunphy is the best I think but each character is needed to make this show what it is. Even Lily has shined since she grew up and delivers hilarious "oh my god" moments. Watch tonight because the family is playing games and there is no basketball hoop or baseball bat needed. A-

Tuesdays feature all-new series, with two new dramas at 8pm and 10pm and a comedy block at 9pm. Wednesdays will have two new comedies. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, the Once Upon a Time spin-off, will lead off Thursdays at 8pm. New midseason series include Killer Women, Mind Games, Resurrection, Mixology and The Quest. Fox's Tuesday adorkable sitcom starring Zooey Deschanel airs Tuesdays at 9:00pm and we have just watched the season finale that airs tonight (May 14). Singer, songwriter and actress Taylor Swift makes a cameo appearance as a wedding guest, and actor/director Rob Reiner returns in his role as Jess' dad, Bob Day. In the season finale tonight, "Elaine's Big Day," Cece's (Hannah Simone) wedding day finds Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) making a decision about their relationship. Meanwhile, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) schemes with a typically overenthusiastic Winston (Lamorne Morris) to sabotage the nuptials, although a shocking announcement may be bigger than anything he plans.
The great thing about New Girl's season finale is that it actually feels like a season finale. That seems like a given, but it's not necessarily always the case with sitcoms that a season finale is going to be a big, important episode. But it is definitely the case with New Girl - the finale had a lot of ends to tie up, as this season has seen the show play around with a lot of interesting developments with its characters. The most notable example is the Jess/Nick dynamic, but you also have Schmidt navigating the rocky pastures of his love life, as well as Cece realizing that she might need to start settling down if she wants to start a family. "Elaine's Big Day" addresses all of these points in ways that not only make a lot of sense with the show's characters, but in ways to make the finale a legitimately exciting experience.
There's honestly not much I can reveal here without spoiling the entire episode, but I will say that the show's build-up to the resolution for all of these plot-lines is seriously enthralling - I don't remember the last time I was this interested in seeing how the plot of a sitcom episode unfolded. The show does a great job of pacing the episode perfectly to keep us interested in what's going on right until the end. Additionally, even with so much plot, the show doesn't forget to be funny - the finale is not only exciting but also seriously hilarious, demonstrating just how comfortably New Girl has found its comic voice this year. While the finale ties up most of the plotlines that have been hanging around for the majority of the season, it also sets up enough to make me very curious as to see where the show is going to pick up next year. Basically, the finale is everything you can ask for in a comedy finale - it's extremely funny, it has some excellent character moments, and it sets up the next season in a way that makes me extremely anxious to get through the summer and see where these characters end up in the fall. It's a perfect finale to cap off an excellent sophomore season. A

Turning to other news, TBS has greenlit Ground Floor, a new multi-camera workplace comedy with a romantic twist written by Emmy(R) nominees Bill Lawrence (TBS' Cougar Town, Scrubs) and Greg Malins (2 Broke Girls, How I Met Your Mother). The series stars Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect), Briga Heelan (Cougar Town) and John C. McGinley (Scrubs). Ground Floor is being produced by Lawrence's Doozer, in association with Warner Horizon Television, with Lawrence and Jeff Ingold (Like Father) serving as executive producers. TBS has ordered 10 episodes of the series, which will premiere on the network in 2014. Ground Floor is set in the modern world of corporate America. The show centers on Brody (Astin), a young hot-shot banker at Whitestone Trust who thought he was just having a one-night stand with Jennifer (Heelan), a beautiful woman he met at a bar. But when he discovers that she works in maintenance for the building where he works, their worlds begin to collide in the most unexpected way. Facing Brody's critical boss, Mr. Mansfield (McGinley), as well as annoyed colleagues, the pair must find a way to deal with their growing feelings for each other in this modern take on Romeo & Juliet.
Starring as Jennifer's co-workers in the building's maintenance office are Rory Scovel (Zach Stone is Going to be Famous) as Harvard, a know-it-all who's secretly enamored with her; James Earl (Glee) as Derrick, who brings a laid-back quality to the office; and Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect) as Tori, a sexy young woman who loves to hit the clubs every night. In addition, Rene Gube (Upright Citizens Brigade) stars as Brody's colleague Threepeat, a money manager in love with his hair gel. 2012-13 Week 33 TV Ratings (first four nights, Mon-Thu):
Tonight ABC Sunday is all-new from 7-11pm. An all-new episode of AFV kicks it off, followed by the season finale of Once Upon a Time and the two-hour season finale of Revenge. Once and Revenge should climb from last week again and do solid. I think it will be second place finish for ABC. NBC devotes the night to The Voice repeats from 7-9pm, which will struggle a bit then a new Celebrity Apprentice: All-Stars from 9-11. NBC will likely finish in fourth. CBS has 60 Minutes at 7, followed by the three-hour finale event of Survivor, which will likely be a first place finish. Fox's animation block is all-new from 7:30-10pm, and could be enough for third for the night.
As for the week (week 33), CBS should take the week in 18-49 over the rest I think because of the Survivor finale tonight. I'm thinking, NBC will likely be in second in 18-49, but Fox and ABC will be close behind. For total viewers, CBS will remain first. ABC will be second over Fox, followed by NBC in a competitive fourth, similar to week 32. As for the coming week (week 34), we have a lot more season finales, as we are near the finish line. The season ends a week from this Wednesday.
Summing it up. The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Two and a Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as New Girl, The Office, The Middle) or just plain terrible (such as The Mindy Project, Family Tools).

Notes: NBC has not made a decision yet on Celebrity Apprentice or Hannibal, thus they have not been picked-up yet for new seasons. Back to the Fall, The Biggest Loser is back on the fall line-up and back on Tuesdays, while the second night of The Voice's fall cycle moves to 9pm on Tuesdays (it moves back to 8pm in Spring). 10pm drama moves: Chicago Fire goes to Tuesdays at 10 from Wednesdays and Parenthood moves to Thursdays at 10pm from Tuesdays. Revolution goes from a 10pm show to an 8pm show, moving to Wednesdays at 8pm. And finally, Parks & Recreation moves to an earlier time of 8pm on Thursdays. In late night, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will be turning into Late Night with Seth Meyers after the Winter Olympics, as Jimmy Fallon moves to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, replacing Jay Leno. Both programs will be produced in New York at Rockefeller Center!

Week 33 (May 6-12) Analysis: We're down to the wire for the 2012-13 season as we look ahead to 2013-14 with upfronts taking place this week. We don't have final first four night network averages, but we can project CBS is in first in HH/total viewers and likely NBC is first for now in adults 18-49. Fox, CBS and ABC should all be close by in 18-49. In HH/viewers, CBS likely has the lead over ABC, with NBC edging fourth place Fox for now. When the week is done, likely Fox will take it in 18-49. The battle for second is anyone's game with CBS, NBC and ABC all in the game and probably in that order but it will be very close. CBS will take total viewers for sure and the others will likely remain in the same position as they are through the first four nights. More on that later. As for the previous week, week 32, Fox and CBS both tied for first in adults 18-49 with a 1.89 rating, compared to a 1.76 for NBC and ABC trailed with a 1.62, as all four networks were close to each other. Among total viewers, it was of course CBS on top easily over second place ABC. Fox was third, while NBC had to settle for fourth again.
Monday had NBC win easily over the other networks. But first, ABC started with a two-hour Dancing with the Stars from 8-10pm and did 13.12 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, which is down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Then Castle was all-new at 10 and did 10.84 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 week-to-week and good for a first place finish. For NBC, they had the two-hour The Voice from 8-10pm that did 12.15 million and a 4.1 18-49 rating, which is down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week for a Monday season low. At 10pm, NBC aired Revolution and did 6.06 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, up two tenths in 18-49 from previous week's series low. CBS was all-new, with a new episode of How I Met Your Mother starting it off with 6.99 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, which is down a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week. At 8:30pm, the now canceled Rules of Engagement was all-new and did 6.74 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. At 9, a new episode of Broke Girls did 7.97 million and a 2.7 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week, but still could be better. At 9:30pm, a new Mike & Molly also was lower than normal with 8.08 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, down about a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. CBS needs some life on this night next season with a new 9pm anchor, I think. At 10pm, Hawaii Five-0 was new and did 8.01 million and just a 1.9 18-49 rating, up two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Fox aired the special Rhianna 777 at 8 and it did a terrible 1.65 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, ouch. At 9pm, a repeat of Bones at 9pm did 2.46 million and a 0.6 18-49 rating, as Fox should have aired something new in sweeps. The CW aired a new Oh Sit! at 8 and did 0.7 million and a 0.3 18-49 rating, which is about on par in 18-49 with previous week. At 9, 90210 was new and did 0.6 million and a 0.3 18-49 rating, horrible but on par in 18-49 with previous week. No wonder it is ending.

At 10pm, week eleven of Golden Boy in this slot did a last place 6.99 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week and it is canceled. On ABC, at 8pm the finale of Splash did 4.3 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week, as Rory Bushfield beat out Nicole Eggert for the win At 9pm, Dancing with the Stars: The Results did 10.79 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, up two tenths in 18-49 from previous week's season low, as we said goodbye to Sean Lowe. At 9:30pm, a new The Mindy Project did just 2.61 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, but on par in 18-49 from previous week. Criminal Minds was new at 9 and did 10.08 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, which was up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week's low. At 10pm, CSI was new and did 9.82 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, up a solid three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. ABC kicked off the night with a new The Middle doing 6.8 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, which is down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week s it faced a special Voice on NBC. Week two of Family Tools was next at 8:30pm and did just 4.48 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week's premiere. Not good, but ABC already said it will not be back next season. At 9pm, a new Modern Family did the best of the block and the best of the night with 9.02 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, still below normal and down about three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. The sixth episode of How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) followed at 9:30pm with 5.9 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Shockingly, ABC will not bring it back next season. I think it deserved to return. At 10pm, Nashville was new and did 5.38 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. On Fox, a two-hour American Idol did a solid 11.11 million and a 2.9 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. Onto NBC a special all-new episode of The Voice started it off at 8pm with 8.92 million and a 2.8 18-49 rating, which was up over a point in 18-49 from previous week's special countdown special. Law & Order: SVU followed at 9pm with a new episode that did 6.91 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, up three tenths in 18-49 from previous week, but it had a larger lead-in and still wasn't up much. At 10pm, Chicago Fire was a new and did 6.89 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, which was up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. The CW aired a new episode of its hit Arrow and did 2.62 million and a 0.9 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 with previous week. At 9pm, a new Supernatural did 2.07 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, as usual - solid and younger-skewing, and up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week.
On Thursday, it was CBS with the win just getting by surging ABC. Starting with ABC, the season premiere of Wipeout aired at 8 and did 4.35 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, up two tenths in 18-49 from previous week's Wife Swap finale but the lowest premiere for this series. It will do better in a few weeks when the season is over. At 9pm, Grey's Anatomy was all-new and did 8.97 million and a 3.1 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. The nine-year old series still has legs, mustering a sophomore drama on CBS and slumping shows on Fox and NBC. At 10pm, ABC aired an all-new episode of TV's #1 show at 10pm Scandal doing 8.87 million and a 3.2 18-49 rating, up six tenths in 18-49 from previous week for a new series high. Look for the season finale to do even higher...maybe a 4? It's the hottest drama on TV! CBS at 8pm had the hottest comedy on TV, The Big Bang Theory doing the best of course with 16.3 million and a 4.9 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 week-to-week and #1 entertainment series of the week. Two and a Half Men followed with its season finale at 8:30pm with 12.83 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, which is up like three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. At 9, Person of Interest was new at 9pm and did 13.16 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, on par really in 18-49 with previous week but it still couldn't top the hour with a stronger lead-in. It's just an older skewing series and CBS needs to move it to lower-profile slot like Tuesdays at 10 or Thursdays at 10. At 10pm, Elementary was new and did 9.29 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week and it can't even compete with Scandal anymore. Fox had American Idol from 8-9pm and did 11.57 million and a 2.9 18-49 rating, which was up three tenths in 18-49 from previous week's season low. Glee was new at 9 and did 5.92 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. It's getting crushed when it has competition. NBC aired new episodes of its comedies, as the season finale of Community did 3.08 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, which is up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. I guess that was good enough for NBC to bring it back next season...strange. A repeat of The Office at 8:30pm did only 2.35 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating. A one-hour episode from 9-10pm followed with 4.56 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating,,which is up five tenths in 18-49 from previous week's 8:30-9:30pm airing. Series finale event is next Thursday. Tonight ABC Sunday is all-new from 7-11pm. An all-new episode of AFV kicks it off, followed by the season finale of Once Upon a Time and the two-hour season finale of Revenge. Once and Revenge should climb from last week again and do solid. I think it will be second place finish for ABC. NBC devotes the night to The Voice repeats from 7-9pm, which will struggle a bit then a new Celebrity Apprentice: All-Stars from 9-11. NBC will likely finish in fourth. CBS has 60 Minutes at 7, followed by the three-hour finale event of Survivor, which will likely be a first place finish. Fox's animation block is all-new from 7:30-10pm, and could be enough for third for the night.
As for the week (week 33), CBS should take the week in 18-49 over the rest I think because of the Survivor finale tonight. I'm thinking, NBC will likely be in second in 18-49, but Fox and ABC will be close behind. For total viewers, CBS will remain first. ABC will be second over Fox, followed by NBC in a competitive fourth, similar to week 32. As for the coming week (week 34), we have a lot more season finales, as we are near the finish line. The season ends a week from this Wednesday.

Monday Sitcoms
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS) - A new episode averaged 6.99 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, which is below normal and down a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week.
- Rules of Engagement (CBS) - A new showing did 6.74 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, which is on par in 18-49 with previous week. CBS canceled the series so it will not return next season.
- 2 Broke Girls (CBS) - A new episode did 7.97 million and a 2.7 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week but perhaps it might be time for it to go back to 8:30pm next season?
- Mike & Molly (CBS) - At 9:30pm, a new airing of this show built on its lead-in in total viewers with 8.08 million but didn't in 18-49 with a 2.3 18-49 rating - down a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week.
Tuesday Sitcoms
- New Girl (Fox) - A new episode did 3.94 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, which is up about two tenths in 18-49 week-to-week. Season finale is this Tuesday.
- The Mindy Project (Fox) - A new airing of this show did only 2.61 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, but on par in 18-49 week-to-week.
- The Middle (ABC) - A new episode posted 6.8 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, which is down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week with increased competition from NBC.
- Family Tools (ABC) - The second episode did just 4.48 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, down three tenths in 18-49 from its low premiere. It's been canned for next season but ABC is planning on airing all the episodes for this season thru June 26.
- Modern Family (ABC) - A new airing at 9 did 9.02 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, which is the best of the block and for the night but down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Look for our review of this week's episode on Wednesday afternoon!
- How To Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) (ABC) - A new episode at 9:30pm did 5.9 million and a 2.018-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. ABC didn't pick it up for next season, which I thought they would.
Thursday Sitcoms
- The Big Bang Theory (CBS) - A new episode at 8pm posted 16.3 million and a 4.9 18-49 rating, which is excellent and on par in 18-49 with previous week. Top series of the week so far.
- Two and a Half Men (CBS) - The season finale followed with 12.83 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, which grew about three tenths in 18-49 from previous week.
- Community (NBC) - The season finale did 3.08 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. NBC made a last minute decision to bring it back next season for 13 episodes--perhaps one last hurrah?
- The Office (NBC) 2 airings - A special one-hour airing from 9-10pm was all-new and did 4.56 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, up five tenths in 18-49 from previous week's one-hour airing which was 8:30-9:30. A repeat earlier in the night at 8:30pm did just 2.35 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating. The series finale event is this Thursday with a special at 8 and the 75-minute finale from 9-10:15pm.

Summing it up. The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Two and a Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as New Girl, The Office, The Middle) or just plain terrible (such as The Mindy Project, Family Tools).
