One morning, the Peanuts gang learns that their beloved camp is shutting down because there are fewer campers joining each summer. Meanwhile, on their adventure, Snoopy and Woodstock find the sought-after treasure chest, but are quickly disappointed when they discover it’s not riches, but instruments and photos from past summer concerts held at the camp. USA Network Revives Scare Tactics; Apple TV+ Orders Season 2 of Camp Snoopy

USA Network has greenlit the comedy-horror series, Scare Tactics, an audacious reimagining of the popular prank series. The series will premiere this fall. From Jordan Peele and Monkeypaw Productions, Scare Tactics will turn unsuspecting individuals into the main characters of their very own horror movies. This heart-pounding show offers a cinematic approach to the hidden camera concept. Set up by their friends and family, these unwitting participants are put in hilariously twisted scenarios with fully immersive stories that blur the lines of reality, horror and comedy. Attention campers! Apple TV+ unveiled the trailer for the all-new, highly anticipated summer Peanuts series Camp Snoopy, premiering on Friday, June 14.

After discovering their troop is in danger of disbanding, Snoopy and the Beagle Scouts set off to immerse themselves in nature and the Great Outdoors to earn their badges, with the Beagle Scout Manual as their guide. Meanwhile, Charlie Brown and friends enjoy their summer at Camp Spring Lake, crossing paths with Snoopy as they experience hiking, swimming, sitting around campfires and everything summer camp and the outdoors have to offer.

Produced for Apple TV+ by Peanuts and WildBrain, the new series is based on the Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz and is directed by Rob Boutilier (The Snoopy Show, Snoopy in Space). Executive producers are Craig Schulz, Paige Braddock, Boutilier, Josh Scherba, Stephanie Betts and Logan McPherson.

Actress Elizabeth MacRae, who had a recurring role as Lou-Ann Poovie on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., has died. She died on May 27 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Ms. MacRae was 88.

MacRae had a recurring role as Lou-Ann Poovie in 15 episodes of the CBS sitcom Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. from 1966 to 1969. Lou-Ann Poovie is Gomer's (Jim Nabors) girlfriend. She debuts in the third season episode "Love's Old Sweet Song" as a singer for a nightclub, but leaves the job at Gomer's urging to return home to Turtle Creek, North Carolina, and marry her beau Monroe Efford. She was hired to play a very lousy singer for just one episode, cast because she was indeed a bad singer, and because of her true bred southern accent. The characters – and MacRae and Nabors – got along so well onscreen, they decided to make her more or less his permanent girlfriend.

Some of her sitcom guest appearances included Harrigan and Son, I Dream of Jeannie, The Andy Griffith Show and Rhoda.

She was cast multiple times on the long-running Gunsmoke, appearing once in the role of Fanny in the 1962 episode "Half-Straight" and then, between 1962 and 1965, appearing four times as April, the girlfriend of Festus Haggen (Ken Curtis), one of the series' main characters.

Some of her other television guest appearances included Naked City, Maverick, The Asphalt Jungle, Surfside 6 (3 episodes), 77 Sunset Strip, Dr. Kildare, The Untouchables, Sam Benedict, Stoney Burke, Death Valley Days, Burke's Law, Route 66 (4 episodes), Rawhide, The Fugitive, The Virginian, Bonanza, Judd for the Defense, Mannix, Petrocelli, Kojak (2 episodes) and Barnaby Jones.

MacRae's soap opera credits included General Hospital, Another World, Days of Our Lives, Guiding Light and Search for Tomorrow.

She starred as Meredith in Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation (1974). Her other film credits included Love in a Goldfish Bowl (1961), Everything's Ducky (1961), The Wild Westerners (1962), Wild Is My Love (1963), For Love or Money (1963), The Incredible Mr. Lumpet (1964) (as the voice of Ladyfish) and Alien Zone (1978). Her final credit was as a news reporter in Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives! (1989).

Ms. MacRae was funny and memorable as Lou-Ann Poovie. She performed in dozens of television series and in nine feature films over her career that spanned 25 years. We thank her for her work on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. and other series. She will be deeply missed.

Film and television producer Albert S. Ruddy, who co-created Hogan's Heroes, has died. He died after a brief illness at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles on May 25. Mr. Ruddy was 94.

Ruddy and Bernard Fein created the 1965-1971 CBS sitcom Hogan's Heroes. The series is set in a prisoner-of-war (POW) camp in Nazi Germany during World War II, which concerns a group of Allied prisoners who use the POW camp as an operations base for sabotage and espionage purposes directed against Nazi Germany. It was a critical and commercial success and ran for six seasons and 168 episodes.

In 1976, he produced a western made-for-TV movie called The Macahans, which was subsequently developed into the 1976-1979 ABC western series How the West Was Won. Ruddy, Leslie Greif, Paul Haggis and Christopher Canaan created the 1993-2001 CBS action crime series Walker, Texas Ranger. He was the executive producer for three episodes in 1993. He was also credited on the 2021-2024 The CW prequel series Walker.

He produced The Godfather (1972) and Million Dollar Baby (2004), both of which won him the Academy Award for Best Picture. In the 2022 Paramount+ biographical drama miniseries The Offer, which dramatizes the making of The Godfather and is executive produced by Ruddy, he is played by Miles Teller.

Mr. Ruddy was developing a Hogan's Heroes sequel series in 2019. It will be interesting to see if it ever happens. We thank him for creating the classic Hogan's Heroes. He will be greatly missed.

We also remember actor, screenwriter, television executive, and acting coach Darryl Hickman. He appeared in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, The Nanny and other sitcoms. He died on May 22 in Montecito, California. Mr. Hickman was 92.

Hickman played Davey Gillis in three episodes of the first season (1959-1960) of the CBS sitcom The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. Davey Gillis is Dobie's (Dwayne Hickman) older brother, a college student no more responsible and no less girl-crazy than Dobie. Davey was written out of the series after season one and Dobie is regarded as an only child thereafter.

Some of his other sitcom guest appearances included Love, American Style (1970), Maude and All in the Family. He appeared as various characters in four episodes of The Nanny from 1997 to 1999.

Hickman starred as Ben Canfield in the short-lived 1961 NBC Civil War drama The Americans. Some of his other television guest appearances included The Lone Ranger (2 episodes), The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, Perry Mason, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Wanted: Dead or Alive, Gunsmoke (2 episodes), Rawhide (2 episodes), The Untouchables (2 episodes), Dr. Kildare and Baywatch. He wrote three episodes of The Loretta Young Show in 1961 and an episode of Hawaiian Eye in 1961.

Some of his voice credits included Space Stars, Pac-Man, The Biskitts, Pole Position, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and The Greatest Adventure: Stories from the Bible.

He appeared in films such as The Grapes of Wrath (1940), Leave Her to Heaven (1945) and Fighting Father Dunne (1948).

Mr. Hickman started his career as a child actor in the Golden Age of Hollywood and appeared in numerous television series as an adult. He was the older brother of Dwayne Hickman who died in 2022. We thank him for work on television and in films. He will be sorely missed.

Lopez vs Lopez Airing in April on NBC; Apple TV+ New Peanuts Special on February 16

The NBC comedy Lopez vs Lopez will return for its second season on Tuesday, April 2 with back-to-back episodes at 8 and 8:30 p.m. and continue in those timeslots for the entire month of April airing all 10 episodes. The show will air next day on Peacock. In its first season, Lopez vs Lopez averaged 4.7 million viewers across all platforms and is the highest-indexing broadcast series for viewers in English-dominant Hispanic households. The cast includes George Lopez, Mayan Lopez, Selenis Leyva, Matt Shively, Brice Gonzalez and Al Madrigal. Guest starring this season are Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias (as Iggy, George's fun-loving, jort-wearing, oversharing AA sponsor), Diana Maria Riva (as Olga, a tough negotiator known for selling the best knock-off TVs at the local swap meet), and Marshawn Lynch (as Marshawn, a brutally honest sideline reporter with big, infectious energy who brings hot takes on everything, from busted coverage on the field to busted faces in the stands).

Apple TV+ released the trailer for the all-new, highly anticipated Peanuts special Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin, premiering globally on Friday, February 16. The origin story for one of Peanuts' most beloved characters, the special follows Franklin as he moves to a new town and navigates new friendships. Franklin’s family is always on the move with his dad’s military job, and everywhere he goes Franklin finds support in a notebook filled with his grandfather’s advice on friendship. But when Franklin tries his usual strategies with the Peanuts gang, he has trouble fitting in. That’s until he learns about the neighborhood Soap Box Derby race – according to his grandfather, everyone loves a winner! He's sure that winning the race will also mean winning over some new friends. All he needs is a partner, which he finds in Charlie Brown. Franklin and Charlie Brown work together to build a car and in the process become good buddies. But as the race nears, the pressure mounts – can their car and their newfound friendship make it to the finish line?

Apple TV+ Winter Slate with Peanuts and Fraggle Rock Specials; Remembering Joyce Randolph of The Honeymooners

Apple TV+ unveiled an exciting winter programming slate for kids and families, featuring brand new Peanuts content as well as returning fan-favorite and critically acclaimed series. Launching February 16, the new Peanuts special, Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin, uncovers the origin story of one of Peanuts' most beloved characters and how he ultimately makes friends with Charlie Brown and the gang. Acclaimed series also returning this winter includes the second season of the award-winning series, Sago Mini Friends, debuting January 26, and season two of the iconic and Emmy Award-winning series from The Jim Henson Company, Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock, debuting March 29, as Tony and Grammy Award winner, and Emmy Award nominee Daveed Diggs (Hamilton) returns for season two alongside Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose (Schmigadoon!), Emmy Award winner Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso) and Emmy Award winner Catherine O'Hara (Schitt's Creek) in guest star roles.

Actress Joyce Randolph, who was best known for playing Trixie Norton on The Honeymooners, has died. She died in her sleep of natural causes at home in Manhattan's Upper West Side on January 13. Ms. Randolph was 99.

Randolph originally portrayed Trixie Norton on The Jackie Gleason Show in 1952 on CBS. She played the character in skits from 1952 to 1957. She starred as Trixie Norton in the 1955-1956 CBS sitcom The Honeymooners. The series follows the lives of New York City bus driver Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason), his wife Alice (Audrey Meadows), Ralph's best friend Ed Norton (Art Carney) and Ed's wife Trixie as they get involved with various schemes in their day-to-day living. Randolph did not appear in every episode and had a less developed character, though she is shown to be somewhat bossy toward her husband.

In 1991, Randolph and Meadows reprised their roles in the episode "Fur Flies" of the ABC sitcom Hi Honey, I'm Home. Some of her other television guest appearances included Rocky King, Detective (1950), Buck Rogers, Famous Jury Trials, The Clock, The Plainclothesman (5 episodes) and The Doctors and the Nurses. On Broadway, she appeared in Ladies Night in a Turkish Bath (1950).

She was interviewed for The Interviews: An Oral History of Television on October 27, 1999.

Ms. Randolph did a wonderful job playing Trixie Norton. She was the last surviving cast member of The Honeymooners. We thank her for the laughs and entertainment that she brought us. She will be deeply missed.

Actor Peter Crombie, who had a recurring role as Crazy Joe Davola in Seinfeld, has died. He died after a brief illness on January 10 in Palm Springs, California. Mr. Crombie was 71.

Crombie appeared as Crazy Joe Davola in five episodes in the fourth season (1992-1993) of the NBC sitcom Seinfeld. Crazy Joe Davola is a writer who suffers from mental problems. He stalks Jerry and dates Elaine. Depressed that Elaine rejected him, he dressed up as the clown from the opera Pagliacci and beats up several street toughs who antagonize him. The name was used with the consent of Fox TV executive, Joe "Lennard" Davola.

Some of his other sitcom guest appearances included Perfect Strangers, The John Larroquette Show, Get Smart (1995) and Grace Under Fire.

He appeared as Norman Minter in five episodes of the 1996 Fox drama L.A. Firefighters. Some of his other television guest appearances included Leg Work, Spenser: For Hire, Law & Order, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Diagnosis: Murder, L.A. Law, Picket Fences, Profiler, NYPD Blue and Walker, Texas Ranger.

Some of his film credits included Born on the Fourth of July (1989), The Doors (1991), Natural Born Killers (1994), Se7en (1995) and My Dog Skip (2000).

Mr. Crombie did a great job portraying one of the more memorable Seinfeld side characters. We thank him for his work on television and in films. He will be greatly missed.

We also remember German actor Christian Oliver. He starred as Brian Keller in Saved by the Bell: The Class. Oliver and his two daughters, Madita and Annik, were killed on January 4 after the four-seater private plane they were on crashed off the coast of Bequia, a Caribbean island in the Grenadines. Everyone on board, including the American pilot, Robert Sachs, was killed on impact. Mr. Oliver was 51.

Oliver starred as Brian Keller in the second season (1994) of the NBC sitcom Saved by the Bell: The New Class. It aired as a part of the network's TNBC Saturday morning line-up. Brian Keller is is a new transfer student from Switzerland. He is interested in Rachel Meyers (Sarah Lancaster), and he is also a schemer.

He appeared in a 2005 episode of The Comeback. Some of his television guest appearances included Sliders, V.I.P., Crossing Lines, Timeless and Hunters (5 episodes).

Some of his film credits included The Good German (2006), Speed Racer (2008) and Valkyrie (2008).

Mr. Oliver was known to German audiences for his role as Jan Richter in the action series Alarm für Cobra 11 – Die Autobahnpolizei from 2002 until 2004. We thank him for his work on television and in films. He will be missed.

Actress Cindy Morgan was best known for playing Lacey Underall in Caddyshack and Lora/Yori in Tron. She was found dead of natural causes at her home in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, on December 30, 2023. Ms. Morgan was 69.

Morgan's sitcom guest appearances included The Love Boat, Tough Cookies, Beverly Hills Buntz, She's the Sheriff, Harry and the Hendersons and The Larry Sanders Show.

She starred as Gloria Marlowe in the 1982-1983 CBS adventure series Bring 'Em Back Alive, which also starred Bruce Boxleitner. She had a recurring role as Gabrielle Short in 15 episodes in seasons six and seven of the CBS prime time soap opera Falcon Crest from 1987 to 1988.

Some of her other television guest appearances included Vega$, CHiPs (3 episodes), Hawaiian Heat, Masquerade, The Fall Guy, Crazy Like a Fox, Amazing Stories, The Highwayman, Matlock (3 episodes), Mancuso, FBI (1990), Hunter (2 episodes) and Under Suspicion.

Ms. Morgan was a talented and lovely actress in the 1980s. We thank her for work on television and in films. She will be sorely missed.

Apple TV+, the official streaming destination for all things Peanuts, announced a new, untitled Peanuts feature film from WildBrain and Peanuts Worldwide, following Snoopy and Charlie Brown as they face their biggest challenge yet. Slated to begin production in 2024 from WildBrain Studios, the new family film will see the Peanuts gang go on an epic adventure to the Big City, learning the true meaning of friendship, while meeting some surprising new friends along the way. The screenplay is co-written by Karey Kirkpatrick, writer of such animated favorites as Chicken Run, Smallfoot and Over the Hedge, from an original story by co-writers Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano, the team that wrote the award winning The Peanuts Movie. The feature will be directed by two-time Annie Award nominee Steve Martino (Horton Hears a Who, Ice Age: Continental Drift), director of the 2015 hit The Peanuts Movie, and is produced by two-time Academy Award nominee Bonnie Arnold (How to Train Your Dragon franchise, Toy Story, Over the Hedge).

In celebration of the holiday season, Apple TV+ announced a festive lineup of all-new kids and family programming featuring the debut of the heartwarming Apple Original special The Velveteen Rabbit, based on the beloved children's classic written by Margery Williams, launching on November 22, plus brand new holiday-themed episodes from beloved series including The Snoopy Show, Frog and Toad, and Shape Island, premiering globally December 1 and a special New Year's Eve themed episode of Sago Mini Friends on December 22.

Apple TV+ will also provide special free windows for nonsubscribers to stream the iconic holiday specials from Mendelson/Melendez Productions and Peanuts Worldwide, including It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown available Saturday, October 21 through Sunday, October 22; A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving available Saturday, November 18 through Sunday, November 19; and A Charlie Brown Christmas available Saturday, December 16 through Sunday, December 17. The holidays just got the diva treatment! As the tentpole of Lifetime's holiday slate, It's a Wonderful Lifetime, the network announced the movie, Ladies of the '80s: A Divas Christmas starring iconic actresses Loni Anderson (WKRP in Cincinnati), Morgan Fairchild (Falcon Crest), Linda Gray (Dallas), Donna Mills (Knots Landing) and Nicollette Sheridan (Knots Landing). Filmed earlier this year, the movie follows five soap opera divas readying for a reunion show who take on playing cupid during Christmas to bring together their director and producer as they all learn the meaning of true Christmas spirit. The movie also stars newcomers Travis Burns and Taylor Ann Thompson. Christopher Atkins, Patrika Darbo, Alec Mapa and Donna Mills' real-life daughter, Chloe Mills, also star. Lifetime's full It's a Wonderful Lifetime holiday movie slate will be announced in the coming weeks.

In Ladies of the '80s: A Divas Christmas, five glamorous soap opera actresses reunite to share the spotlight to shoot the final Christmas episode of their long-running soap opera. The producer, Alex (Travis Burns) and director Nell (Taylor Ann Thompson), who happen to be old college friends, do their best to keep things on the rails but as the ladies come together, old rivalries resurface that threaten to tear the whole production apart. With the show nearly canceled before it even begins due to the ladies' famous diva behavior, they reluctantly agree to set aside their differences and past secrets to "act" as if they all still love each other. When old sparks reignite between Alex and Nell, the ladies become eager to play cupid and conspire to bring the couple together. Along the way, the divas also discover that the love between them all is still very strong too. The movie's theme song Ladies of the '80s was written by Song Writer Hall of Fame's Steve Dorff and Michael Jay and is performed by '80s pop sensation Tiffany (I Think We're Alone Now).

Apple TV+ New Peanuts Special; grown-ish Star Gets Prime Video Film

Apple TV+ released the trailer for the all-new, highly anticipated Peanuts special Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie, premiering globally on Friday, August 18. Sometimes the people who make the biggest difference, aren’t the ones who grab the spotlight. In Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie, we get to see first-hand how our lovable introvert, Marcie, makes a monumental difference from behind the scenes both for her friends and her community. To train for the school golf championship, Marcie assists Peppermint Patty as her caddie, offering thoughtful and deliberate advice to help her win. Meanwhile, after coming up with brilliant solutions to her classmates’ problems – from hallway traffic jams to lunchtime pizza shortages – Marcie is unexpectedly elected as class president...a role she never wanted. Suddenly thrust into the spotlight, Marcie struggles to cope with the expectations of her new job and retreats as far from the public eye as possible. As the golf championship begins, Marcie is still in hiding and Peppermint Patty is forced to tee off with Charlie Brown filling in as her caddie. But after some wise advice and a little introspection, Marcie realizes she can still make a difference for her friends and the school – she’ll just have to buck other people’s expectations and do it her own unique way.

Prime Video revealed first-look images for the upcoming comedy film Sitting in Bars with Cake, starring Yara Shahidi (grown-ish), Odessa A'zion, Ron Livingston, and the legendary Bette Midler. An open-hearted look at friendship and finding yourself in early adulthood, the film is directed by Trish Sie (Pitch Perfect 3) and inspired by real-life events and the book of the same name by Audrey Shulman, who also wrote the screenplay. Shahidi is also an executive producer on the film, which marks her first project as an executive producer. On September 8, Sitting in Bars with Cake will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.

Inspired by true events, Sitting in Bars with Cake follows best friends Jane (Yara Shahidi) and Corinne (Odessa A'zion) navigating life in Los Angeles in their twenties. Corinne, the ultimate extrovert, convinces her shy-but-extremely-talented home baker best friend Jane to commit to a year of baking cakes and bringing them to bars, with the goal of meeting people and developing confidence-also known as "cakebarring." During their year of "cakebarring," Corinne receives a life-altering diagnosis, and the pair face a challenge unlike anything they've experienced before. CBS Summer 2023 Reality Schedule; Apple TV+ Announces Peanuts Programming

CBS is bringing the heat this summer, announcing premiere dates for three returning and one new reality series. CBS' original summer lineup launches with the return of Secret Celebrity Renovation Friday, July 28 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), followed by the milestone 25th season premiere of Big Brother Wednesday, Aug. 2 (8:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT). The musical game show Superfan will now debut on a new day and time, Wednesday, Aug. 9 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), and The Challenge: USA launches Thursday, Aug. 10 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). All series will also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. During the summer, viewers will get a double dose of reality with Big Brother leading into Superfan on Wednesday nights, and then pairing with The Challenge: USA on Thursdays and the last three Sundays in August.

The new musical game show Superfan with hosts Nate Burleson and Keltie Knight will feature contestants vying in multiple rounds of play to prove they are their favorite artist's most deserving supporter. NBC Orders Full Season of Lopez vs. Lopez; Apple TV+ Christmas Collection

NBC has picked up an additional 9 episodes of the new comedy series Lopez vs. Lopez, bringing the first season total to 22 episodes. Lopez vs Lopez is the #1 NBC comedy launch on Peacock, where reruns of George Lopez (2002-2007) sitcom also air. The series has the strongest English-dominant Hispanic index among the major four broadcast networks. George Lopez is back in primetime and this time he's bringing his real-life daughter, Mayan. This hilarious and heartwarming comedy tells the story of a working-class old-school Latino who moves in with his modern Gen Z daughter as they rebuild their dysfunctional relationship one argument at a time. "Interrupting Chicken" A Chicken Carol Holiday Special
In the holiday special, A Chicken Carol, Ebenezer Wolf decides to cancel the holidays so, Piper teams up with the Three Little Pigs and some ghostly friends to change his mind. This animated preschool series which debuts globally on Apple TV+ November 18 is based upon “Interrupting Chicken," the 2011 Caldecott Honor-winning book series written and illustrated by David Ezra Stein, introduces children to the joy of storytelling - starting with a young little chicken named Piper who has a habit of interrupting storytime! Every time Piper hears a story, she can’t help but jump in, ask questions and let her imagination run wild as she tries to fill in details, guess what happens next or insert herself in the middle of the action to help save the day. “Pretzel and the Puppies” Merry Muttgomery! Holiday Special
In “Merry Muttgomery!,” when a heavy snowfall jeopardizes the annual holiday festival, the pups find unique ways to celebrate with all the snowed-in dogs in the city. Based on the beloved canine from the classic book “Pretzel” by award-winning authors Margret and H.A. Rey, creators of “Curious George,” the original series follows a modern dog family led by stay-at-home dad Pretzel, his five adorable Dachshund puppies, and mom Greta, the mayor of Muttgomery. Together, the Doxies are always sniffing out ways to “make their bark” on their doggie hometown and make it a better place for their four-legged friends and neighbors. CBS announced today the 16 celebrities competing in the new, two-hour sports comedy special Pickled.
