First Look at Netflix's A Different World; Great American Family's 6th Annual Christmas Slate Begins in October with Laura Vandervoort Movie

A new class just enrolled...a new generation, a legendary legacy. A Different World premieres September 24th on Netflix and first look images have been released. 10 episodes, single camera, half-hour format will air starring Maleah Joi Moon, Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, Kennedi Reece, and Chibuikem Uche.

A Different World returns to Hillman College with a new class stepping onto campus - and beloved faces coming home. At the center is Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon), Whitley and Dwayne's lovingly sheltered youngest daughter, a free spirit with a flair for the spotlight and a big heart who's still figuring out her own path at Hillman.

Along the way, she's joined by a new generation that reflects the breadth of Black life on campus: Rashida Duvall (Alijah Kai), a first gen criminal justice major; Shaquille Johnson (Cornell Young IV), a five star athlete choosing legacy; Amir Rodale (Jordan Aaron Hall), a sharp psych major better at fixing everyone else's problems than facing his own; Hazel Henry (Kennedi Reece), a church raised small town girl defining her own values; and Kojo Achebe (Chibuikem Uche), a Ghanaian Nigerian fashion entrepreneur finding the courage to follow his vision. Legacy favorites also return, including Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy), Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison), Freddie Brooks (Cree Summer), and Ron Johnson (Darryl M. Bell).

Set against the rituals, humor, and nuances of an HBCU, A Different World is a hopeful dramedy, full of heart and unapologetically centered on the richness and complexity of the Black experience.

Great American Media announced Christmas By the Spoonful, an all-new Original Movie starring Laura Vandervoort (V, Smallville, Bitten), Olivier Renaud, Ilan O'Driscoll, and Holly Bridges, premieres this holiday season as part of the sixth annual Great American Christmas, the network's signature celebration of Christmas as it is meant to be. Christmas By the Spoonful will have its World Premiere streaming on Great American Pure Flix and will air on Great American Family and GFAM+ when the beloved annual event returns to air in October.

In Christmas By the Spoonful, food critic Lorraine Boulanger (Vandervoort) may know exceptional cuisine, but she has no culinary abilities of her own. When Lorraine is tasked with preparing her family's first Christmas dinner since the passing of their beloved matriarch, she must turn to local French food-truck owner, Pierre DuBois (Renaud) for help. The problem: Lorraine's harsh review years earlier nearly put Pierre out of business. As the unlikely pair work together to create a meaningful holiday meal in honor of Lorraine's mom, old resentments begin to soften, and the spirit of Christmas offers them an unexpected opportunity for forgiveness, connection, and love.

Great American Christmas returns this holiday season with a new slate of Original movies celebrating faith, family, love, hope, and the timeless traditions that make Christmas the most cherished season of the year.

Great American Media Announces New Danica McKellar Movie; Jennifer Love Hewitt ID True Crime Series

Great American Media announced the World Premiere of Original movie, Grounded in Love, starring Danica McKellar (A Cinderella Christmas Ball, Swing Into Romance) and Trevor Donovan (Jingle Bell Princess, Harvest Homecoming), streams exclusively on Great American Pure Flix, beginning Thursday, August 7. The film is adapted from the bestselling novel Grounded by Angela Correll will also premiere on Great American Family, Saturday, September 27 (8 p.m. ET). The teleplay is written by Andrea Canning (Dateline, Love On the Danube) and Cara Russell.

In Grounded in Love, Annie (McKellar), a spirited, Manhattan-based flight attendant, thrives on adventure and freedom, until an unexpected airline merger grounds her career and a breakup with a self-absorbed boyfriend leaves her questioning everything. Searching for clarity, Annie takes a road trip to her grandmother's rural Kentucky farm - a place she hasn't visited in years, though holds close to her heart. Nothing on the farm seems to have changed, except Jake (Donovan), Annie's childhood friend who recently traded in fast-paced city life for something more intentional. As two old friends reconnect, Annie rediscovers what matters most - family, faith, community, and the kind of love that stays rooted when everything else seems uncertain.

Investigation Discovery announced the premiere date for new true crime series A Killer Among Friends, executive produced and narrated by actress and producer Jennifer Love Hewitt. The six-part series will explore a group of interconnected individuals who are collectively haunted by a murder of one of their own, serving as the catalyst to unravel secrets, suspicions, and betrayals between friends.

Amidst the hunt for a killer, no one is entirely certain who they can trust... or if another member of their friend group might be next. A Killer Among Friends will premiere Monday, July 14 at 10/9c on ID, with new episodes airing weekly. Episodes will be available to stream on HBO Max.

Extraordinary Season 2 This March on Hulu; Great American Family Sets Hosts for Gala

Hulu has released first look images for the highly anticipated second season of the critically-acclaimed comedy Extraordinary. The Original series will premiere Wednesday, March 6, only on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in the rest of the world. Season two picks up where season one spectacularly left off, following Jen (Máiréad Tyers) on her powers journey as she enrols as a client at the power clinic. Jen soon discovers that the process of finding her power isn’t as easy as she hoped, and things in the rest of her life aren’t smooth sailing either. Ex-cat, now-boyfriend Jizzlord (Luke Rollason) has had an unexpected revelation about his past, and Kash (Bilal Hasna) and Carrie (Sofia Oxenham) are attempting to be totally mature and dignified about their break-up, which is not easy when they’re still living under the same roof. It seems that Jen and the gang are dealing with new levels of adulting and chaos that none of them are prepared for.

The series stars Máiréad Tyers, Sofia Oxenham, Bilal Hasna and Luke Rollason. Siobhán McSweeney and Robbie Gee will be returning in season two as Mary and Ian, Jen’s mum and stepdad. New cast this season includes Julian Barrett as George, Jen’s power coach at the Discovery Clinic; Rosa Robson as Nora, an unexpected person from Jizzlord’s past; Kwaku Mills as Clark, Carrie’s new work colleague; and Derek Jacobi, who will voice a special cameo role.

Great American Family stars Danica McKellar and Trevor Donovan are set to host the 31st Annual MovieGuide(R) Awards Gala, Friday, February 9 at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood, CA. MovieGuide(R) honors the best in family-friendly entertainment across linear, streaming, and theatrical films and will be broadcast exclusively on Great American Family, Thursday, March 7 (8 p.m. ET). The MovieGuide(R) Awards Gala is the premiere awards event in Hollywood that exclusively honors movies, television, and streaming content that promotes inspiring and positive interactions, morals and values, and Biblical teachings.

Archer Final Season Trailer; Great American Family Fastest-Growing Network

• Late night talk shows will be going through some big changes in 2023, and it's not clear where things will end. (Deadline)
• The X Factor may be returning to the US, but on NBC instead of Fox this time. (TVLine)
• Barbara Walters has died at age 93. (CNN)
• Although Hallmark is likely still the dominant one in the battle right now, a real schism is developing between Great American Family (we think that's what they're called now, at least, as they've changed their name more than once this year) and Hallmark for the battle of Christmas movies.
