Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! We're now heading into the summer and it is also Memorial Day weekend, so it should come as no surprise that the news is very light this week. However, we do have some Fuller House news, yet another sitcom star death (though this one is actually several months old and just now being revealed), and more. Let's get going!

• Suits - Season Five (DVD, $44.98): The USA Network legal drama returns to DVD with this release.

Who to Follow: Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Twitter), "Actress in show business"

Claim to Fame: Julia Louis-Dreyfus got her start on television in 1982 as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, where, at age 21, she was the youngest female cast member to join the series at that time. She later went on to star in the Family Ties spinoff Day by Day, but her big claim to fame came in 1989 with her role on Seinfeld. Following Seinfeld, she took a bit of a break from acting (and also had a short-lived series called Watching Ellie, which could be described as a failure). But since 2006, she has bounced back with two hit series back-to-back, first with The New Adventures of Old Christine and now the HBO series Veep.

Canceled CBS single-camera comedy Angel from Hell will get a chance to air its eight unaired episodes on CBS after all. The sitcom starring Jane Lynch, Maggie Lawson, Kevin Pollak and Kyle Bornheimer, is a comedy about Amy (Jane Lynch), a colorful, brassy woman who insinuates herself into the life of an organized and seemingly perfect young woman, Allison (Maggie Lawson), claiming to be her "guardian angel." CBS will air the 8 remaining episodes back-to-back on Saturdays at 8:00pm & 8:30pm beginning Saturday, July 2 for four weeks. It will run through and including Saturday, July 23. CBS will also burn off canceled drama Rush Hour, which recently got pulled from Thursdays at 10 for reruns of Code Black beginning last night. Rush Hour will return Saturday, July 23 at 9pm then move to Saturdays at 8pm after Angel from Hell completes its episodes beginning July 30 through and including August 20. Rush Hour stars Justin Hires, Jon Foo, Aimee Garcia and Wendie Malick.

Actress Beth Howland, who was best known for her role as Vera Gorman in Alice, has died. She died of lung cancer on December 31, 2015, in Santa Monica, California. As per her request, her death was not reported to the media until May 24. Ms. Howland was 74.

Howland's career began on stage on Broadway in 1959 with her role as Lady Beth in the Carol Burnett musical Once Upon a Mattress. She originated the role of Amy in the original Broadway cast of Stephen Sondheim's Company, in which she introduced the patter song Getting Married Today. Some of her other roles included the musicals Bye Bye Birdie, High Spirits, Drat! The Cat! and Darling of the Day.

Some of her early television guest appearances included Mary Tyler Moore (2 episodes), Love, American Style, Cannon, The Rookies, Bronk and Little House on the Prairie. She had uncredited roles in the films Li'l Abner (1958) and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1972).

Howland starred as Vera Louise Gorman (later Novak) in Alice. Vera was a neurotic, scatterbrained waitress at Mel's Diner in Phoenix. She was accident prone. Her scene with the exploding straws in the pilot episode was used in the opening credits. The shy Vera married policeman Elliot Novak (Charles Levin) in the eighth season.

The popular series ran for nine seasons on CBS from 1976-1985. It also starred Linda Lavin, Vic Tayback, Philip McKeon, Polly Holliday (1976-1980), Diane Ladd (1980-1981) and Celia Weston (1981-1985). Howland received four Golden Globe Award nominations for the role in 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983.

Some of her other television guest appearances included Eight Is Enough, The Love Boat (6 episodes), Comedy Factory, You Can't Take It With You, Murder She, Wrote, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Batman Beyond (voice), The Tick and As Told by Ginger.

She starred in television movies, including The Ted Bessell Show, You Can't Take It With You, The Wild Wacky Wonderful World of Winter and Agatha Christie's: A Caribbean Mystery. She appeared in the 1988 ABC Afterschool Special: Terrible Things My Mother Told Me.

Survivors include her husband, actor Charles Kimbrough of Murphy Brown fame, and her daughter, Holly Rowland, from her first marriage to actor Michael J. Pollard.

Ms. Howland was very funny as Vera. We wish someone would air Alice. It would also be great to have the remaining five seasons available on DVD. We thank her for the many laughs she brought us. She will be deeply missed.

Listen up peasants! The original ballers are back and here to stay. Comedy Central's turn-of-the-century historical and satirical scripted series, Another Period, has been renewed for a third season. The ten-episode second season, co-created by and starring Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome, directed by Jeremy Konner and executive produced by Ben Stiller's Red Hour, debuts on Wednesday, June 15 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Prior to season two's premiere, fans can indulge themselves as the Bellacourts' would by binging on the entire first season of Another Period, available on the Comedy Central App and cc.com starting June 8. Another Period tells the incredible story of the Bellacourt sisters, Lillian and Beatrice (played by Leggero and Lindhome), who are defined by their family's wealth and care only about becoming super famous - which is a lot harder in 1902 - and follows the insanely decadent and outrageous life of the Bellacourt coterie. Before others claimed their fame, they were the one American family who epitomized all that was spoiled, shameless and stupid - with more servants than relatives and days filled with money, sex, drugs... and more money.

During the second season, the Bellacourts and the poor souls under their servitude return for a whole new season full of excess and debauchery with Lillian and Beatrice seeking advice on how to rebrand, attempting to divorce their gay husbands, pursuing new male suitors, fighting infectious diseases and, of course, still trying to become famous. Servants from downstairs head upstairs, sex is attempted to be had for pleasure, political scandals play out, and illustrious characters from our nation's past - such as Albert Einstein, Teddy and Eleanor Roosevelt and Harriet Tubman - pay visit to Newport's first family. On Tuesday, June 14, the day before the Season Two linear premiere, Comedy Central will provide fans the opportunity to experience, firsthand, a dinner with the Bellacourts via a 360º virtual reality video available through Comedy Central's Facebook page the and Another Period Facebook page.

We mentioned a few weeks ago that '70s classic All in the Family is airing on Logo, but now another '70s classic is airing, too! That sitcom is Three's Company! The sitcom is airing in block marathons as of a few weeks ago, joining Logo's other sitcoms like 227, The Facts of Life, The Nanny, Sabrina, Bewitched, All in the Family, Roseanne, Will & Grace, Soap, and A Different World. They certainly have a wide range of sitcoms now! You'll have to check your listings to see when it airs, as there is no set schedule. But there is plenty of Jack Tripper on Logo each week! Three's Company was airing on sister network TV Land, but hasn't been seen in a few months, so now Logo is airing it. Three's Company can also be seen over-the-air on the digital simulcast network Antenna TV. It's always great having Jack, Janet and Chrissy (or Cindy and Terri) on the air at all times, so enjoy it!

COZI TV and the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) have teamed up for beach safety this Memorial Day weekend, launching a new, original public service announcement designed to build awareness of rip current dangers and encourage safe swimming. The new public service announcement will debut during a special COZI TV Baywatch Memorial Day marathon, which kicks off on Monday, May 30 at 8 AM (check local listings). Featuring lifeguards discussing real-world experiences, the public service announcement reminds viewers of the dangers posed by rip currents while encouraging swimming only within the presence of a lifeguard. COZI TV's special Memorial Day Baywatch marathon will feature eleven episodes of the iconic TV series, which brought the blue skies and beautiful beaches of Southern California to more than one billion viewers worldwide. Led by veteran lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (David Hasselhoff), the series showcases his team of lifeguards as they protect vacationers on a crowded resort. Today we preview the new sitcoms announced for the 2016-17 season. There will be a total of seven new sitcoms on the fall schedule. Four are single-camera comedies. CBS adds three multi-camera sitcoms to their schedule. Eight additional comedies have been ordered for mid-season. Just one will be a multi-camera sitcom.

ABC will have two-hour blocks of comedies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They have two additional single-camera comedies planned for mid-season. Top-rated CBS has three new multi-camera sitcoms featuring stars Kevin James, Matt LeBlanc and Joel McHale. Fox adds the hybrid live-action/animated comedy Son of Zorn to their Sunday lineup. They have two additional single-camera comedies for mid-season. Ted Danson returns to NBC in their only new fall comedy. Three additional single-camera comedies are planned for mid-season. They also have the multi-camera family sitcom Marlon, which stars Marlon Wayans.

Downward Dog - Mid-Season on ABC (Single-Camera)

Based on the web series, Downward Dog is about a struggling millennial, Nan (Emmy-nominated Allison Tolman, Fargo), from the point of view of her lonely and philosophical dog, Martin. One session at obedience school already makes them realize that even at their worst they may be the best thing for each other.

The series stars Allison Tolman as Nan, Lucas Neff as Jason, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Jenn, Barry Rothbart as Kevin and Mo Collins as Kim. Samm Hodges is the voice of Martin.

Imaginary Mary - Mid-Season on ABC (Single-Camera)

The live action/CGI hybrid comes from The Goldbergs team Adam F. Goldberg (writer/executive producer), David Guarascio (writer/executive producer) and Doug Robinson (executive producer). Mary CG animation is designed by Patrick Osborne (creator of Academy Award- winning animated short, The Feast), who is also executive producer. The pilot was directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Cheaper by the Dozen), who is also executive producer. The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television, Happy Madison and ABC Studios.

Their usually reliable eldest, Kendra (Taylor Spreitler), is dropping out of college so she can support her unemployed fiancé, Chale (Ryan Cartwright), while he designs the next “big app”; his teenage daughter, Sara (Mary-Charles Jones), is having issues at school; and their youngest, Jack (James DiGiacomo), is a bit of a hypochondriac. For now, his plans for a cushy life will have to wait, because Kevin has work to do, and this time, his family is his beat. But with Andi’s encouragement and advice from a couple of equally stressed parents, Marie (Jessica Chaffin) and Lowell (Matt Cook), Adam takes charge of his brood, lays down the law and discovers he’s going to “nail” this job. THE GREAT INDOORS stars Joel McHale in a comedy about a renowned adventure reporter for an outdoor magazine who must adapt to the times when he becomes the desk-bound boss to a group of millennials in the digital department of the publication. Jack has led a thrilling “outdoorsy” life exploring the edges of the earth while chronicling his adventures for Outdoor Limits. But his globe-trotting days end when the magazine’s charismatic founder and outdoor legend, Roland (Stephen Fry), announces the publication’s move to web-only and assigns Jack to supervise their online team of “journalists.” Jack’s eager 20-something colleagues include Clark (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), a tech nerd who knows everything about surviving on Mars and a zombie apocalypse; Emma (Christine Ko), their social media expert who views Jack as the human version of dial-up; and Mason (Shaun Brown), a hipster-lumberjack who hasn’t spent any actual time outside. Jack reports to Roland’s daughter, Brooke (Susannah Fielding), an ex-flame who caters to the sensitive staffers by giving them all trophies just for working hard. Jack’s best friend, Eddie (Chris Williams), runs the local dive bar that’s popular with the younger set and helps Jack “decode” his co-workers. Jack is baffled by the world of click-bait and listicles, but if he’s patient, he may be able to show these kids that the outside world is much more than something on a screen… if he doesn’t beat them with their selfie-sticks first. Mike Gibbons, Chris Harris and multiple Emmy Award winner Andy Ackerman are executive producers for CBS Television Studios. Ackerman directed the pilot.

Last week we mentioned the Antenna TV Saturday Summer-thons that begins June 4 (Saturdays from 1-10pm), but now we have the full Antenna TV summer 2016 schedule. And it includes Webster, as we hinted. All of the schedule changes will happen on Sundays beginning June 5, with most Saturday shows being shifted to Sundays due to the Saturday summer marathons. The Monkees will move to Sundays from 11am-12pm, replacing Jeannie. Then from 12-1pm, it is the new timeslot for The Partridge Family, replacing Bewitched. Then from 1pm-2pm Small Wonder moves to Sundays, replacing an hour of Green Acres. From 2-3pm, Sabrina the Teenage Witch is also moving to Sundays, replacing an hour of The Monkees. From 3-4pm, Doogie Howser M.D. moves up a few hours replacing The Partridge Family. Then Mr. Belvedere is also moving to Sundays, airing 4-5pm replacing The Ropers/Three's a Crowd hour, as those two shows will go off the lineup for the summer. From 5-6pm, Dear John moves up a few hours replacing Doogie Howser. At 6pm, an hour of Evening Shade will remain, but from 7-8pm we have the new addition to the schedule...Webster! It replaces Dear John in the hour. Everything else will remain the same.

Emmy-winning actor Alan Young, who was best known for his role as Wilbur Post in Mister Ed, has died. He died on May 19 of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. Mr. Young was 96.

Young's American radio career began in 1944. His first radio appearances were on the Philco Radio Hall of Fame. The Alan Young Show began on NBC Radio as a summer replacement situation comedy in 1944. It moved to ABC Radio two years later before returning to NBC in 1946.

The Alan Young Show began as a variety/sketch comedy show on television on CBS in 1950. It won an Emmy Award for Best Variety Show in 1951. Alan Young won an Emmy Award for Best Actor in 1951. The show switched to a more conventional sitcom in the final season in 1953. Young played a bank teller. His girlfriend was played by Dawn Addams.

Young starred as Wilbur Post, the owner of Mr. Ed, a talking horse that would talk to no one but him, in Mister Ed. The popular series ran for six seasons 1961-1966. It began in first-run syndication before moving to CBS. The series starred Connie Hines, Larry Keating, Edna Skinner, Leon Ames, Florence MacMichael and Allan "Rocky" Lane as the voice of Mr. Ed. Mr. Ed was played by a Palomino horse named Bamboo Harvester. Young also directed episodes in the final season of the series.

Some of his other television guest appearances in the 1950s and 1960s included General Electric Theater, Studio One, Chevron Hall of Stars, Studio 57, The Steve Allen Show, Five Fingers, Encounter, Startime and Mr. Terrific (unaired pilot version).

He starred as Ed Pepper in the 1988-1989 CBS sitcom Coming of Age. His wife on the series was played by Glynis Johns. They were the neighbors of Dick and Ginny Hale (Paul Dooley and Phyllis Newman).

His other sitcom guest appearances included Down to Earth, City, Doogie Howser, M.D., Coach, Maybe This Time, The Wayans Bros., Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, USA High, Kelly Kelly, The Tony Danza Show, Hang Time and Maybe It's Me.

Young was also known for his voice work. He provided the voice of Scrooge McDuck in Disney films, the DuckTales TV series (1987-1990) and video games. Some of his other voice credits included Battle of the Planets, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, The Incredible Hulk, The Smurfs, Alvin and the Chipmunks, TaleSpin, Batman: The Animated Series, The Ren & Stimpy Show and Duckman.

The Archive of American Television conducted an extensive interview with him on February 6, 2001.

Mr. Young was wonderful in Mister Ed. He had a very long and successful career. His voice work had kept him active in recent years. He will be greatly missed.
