Rhoda Coming to MeTV Network in July 2013; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of June 24, 2013)

Rhoda
The MeTV Network is reuniting Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore) and Rhoda Morgenstern (Valerie Harper)! Beginning Monday, July 8, The Mary Tyler Moore Show spin-off series Rhoda will join the MeTV line-up and will air weeknights at 9:30PM. This means both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rhoda, will air weeknights back-to-back beginning at 9:00PM. The addition of Rhoda will push back The Dick Van Dyke Show from 9:30 to 10PM, while The Odd Couple also gets pushed from 10PM to 10:30PM. The odd show out will be Hogan's Heroes, which was airing at 10:30pm, but will now be off the line-up. These changes are last minute additions to the already announced Summer of Me line-up on MeTV, which we announced before. No other changes will be made. Rhoda is a surprise and welcome addition, though. Relive the comedy and sometimes drama of two best friends who met in Minneapolis, shared an apartment, as well as years of laughter, tears and everything in between. Mary and Rhoda are together again on MeTV!

Rhoda was last seen on AmericanLife TV and FamilyNet a few years back. It was paired with another Mary Tyler Moore spin-off, Phyllis. While MeTV won't be airing Phyllis, we still get Rhoda on MeTV. This is a great way to remember Valerie Harper while she is still with us (as you know she is suffering from a rare, terminal cancer). Stay with us for continued updates!

FX Acquires Kelsey Grammer/Martin Lawrence Sitcom; Charlie's Angels Every Episode Marathon on Universal HD

Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence

FX has closed a 10/90 deal (10 episode test run, if it does well the back-90 episodes get picked-up) with Lionsgate Television and Lionsgate's Debmar-Mercury for the new untitled sitcom starring comedy legends Martin Lawrence and Kelsey Grammer. Prolific comedy veterans Bob Boyett and Robert Horn, whose half-hour credits collectively include Family Matters, Perfect Strangers, Full House, Living Single and Designing Women, will executive produce and write the Lionsgate Television-produced show. Executive producers also include Kelsey Grammer, Martin Lawrence, Brian Sher, Stella Bulochnikov, Michael Green and Sam Maydew. The new sitcom marks the much-anticipated return to television of both Lawrence and Grammer, who play two Chicago lawyers from vastly different backgrounds who unexpectedly meet in court on the worst day of their lives. Brought together by fate and greed, they develop a partnership and friendship, forcing each other to find the balance between the ethical and the unscrupulous in both their professional and personal lives.

FX has ordered 10 episodes of the sitcom and, as is standard with the 10/90 model, if the series meets designated ratings thresholds over its first 10-episode run, the network will trigger an additional 90-episode order. The 10/90 model is a unique syndication model crafted by Debmar-Mercury for multiple sitcoms, including FX's own Anger Management and the upcoming FX George Lopez series Saint George, Tyler Perry's House of Payne and Meet The Browns, and Revolution's and Ice Cube's Are We There Yet? The Martin-Grammer sitcom will air exclusively on FX until the off-network episodes start airing in broadcast syndication in fall 2017. We will have MUCH more information on this series soon, including the title, other members of the cast and when it will premiere with its 10-episode test run. Stay tuned.

Brady Bunch Pulled from Hallmark Channel; Valerie Harper Documentary on NBC

The Hallmark Channel just recently moved The Brady Bunch from 5-8pm to 2-4pm on June 10, but now after two weeks in that block...it is going to be removed. Maybe the Brady kids got in trouble for playing ball in the house? Starting Monday, June 24, 2013, The Hallmark Channel will remove the two-hour Brady block and add an extra episode each of drama staples The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie, so both of those dramas will now air three hours in a row instead of two hours. The Waltons will now air from 2-5pm, while Little House on the Prairie will air from 5-8pm. The Brady Bunch will now join Happy Days on shows placed on hiatus. Both series joined the network in January. No word on if and when The Brady Bunch will return, but it is not on the schedule elsewhere on Hallmark either. Oh, Mike. The rest of the Hallmark Channel line-up will remain the same as it is now.

The Brady Bunch will still be on television at least, if you get INSP and MeTV Network. Cable network INSP airs the sitcom weekdays at 5:00pm & 5:30pm, while MeTV airs The Brady Bunch Brunch Block on Sunday afternoons from 11am-1pm. Stay with us for continued updates and we hope it returns soon...enjoy it the next three days before it is off the schedule starting on Monday.

Valerie Harper

NBC News announced that it has greenlit an exclusive, hour-long documentary chronicling Valerie Harper's (Rhoda, The Mary Tyler Moore Show) battle with a rare, terminal cancer. Hosted by Meredith Vieira and produced by NBC News' Peacock Productions, this first-person account captures Harper's raw, emotional and hopeful journey as she goes through experimental treatments and lives each day to the fullest with her husband Tony Cacciotti and their daughter Christina. A recurrence of Harper's 2009 lung cancer, the disease spread into the membrane surrounding her brain and she was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis on March 6, 2013. Since then, she has allowed camera crews unprecedented access into her life to help tell her story - every step of the way. From the revelation that she had an incurable disease, to doctor's visits, second and third opinions, surgeries and reunions with family and friends, the documentary, airing on NBC in primetime, takes an intimate look inside Harper's reality. Air date and additional information regarding the documentary airing on NBC, to be announced.

Boy Meets World Spin-Off Girl Meets World Picked Up to Series by Disney Channel; CBS Fall 2013 Premiere Dates

It's no surprise but finally Disney Channel has ordered Girl Meets World, a comedy series for kids and families from executive producer Michael Jacobs (Boy Meets World), to series! We first mentioned this some months ago when it was just a pilot but now it will be a series! Starring are 11-year-old Rowan Blanchard (Spy Kids All the Time in World in 4D) as the girl -- Riley Matthews -- 14-year-old Sabrina Carpenter (Sofia the First voice cast and a newly signed Hollywood Records recording artist) as her best friend Maya Fox, and Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage reprising the "Cory and Topanga" roles they made famous in ABC's hugely popular sitcom Boy Meets World (1993-2000). Production on the multi-camera series will begin this summer in Los Angeles for a scheduled 2014 premiere on Disney Channel. We'll have much more on exactly when soon. William Daniels, who of course played Mr. Feeny, will appear in the pilot episode and maybe more episodes. Other members of the original Boy Meets World cast could also pop-up on this new series, so stay tuned for more information. Jackée Harry (227, Sister Sister) appears in the pilot episode.

Set in New York City, the new comedy series will tell the wonderfully funny, heartfelt stories that Boy Meets World is renowned for -- only this time from a tween girl's perspective -- as the curious and bright 7th grader, Riley, and her quick-witted friend Maya embark on an unforgettable middle school experience. But their plans for a carefree year will be adjusted slightly under the watchful eyes of Riley's dad who's also a faculty member (and their new History teacher) and Riley's mom who owns a trendy afterschool hangout that specializes in pudding. Teo Halm plays Cory and Topanga's son, Elliott. The series was created by Michael Jacobs (Boy Meets World, Dinosaurs, My Two Dads, Charles In Charge) and April Kelly (Boy Meets World) and is executive-produced by Jacobs. Girl Meets World is from It's A Laugh Productions, Inc. and carries a TV-G parental guideline.

E! Brings in New Joel McHale Special Following Hit Series; UP's Saturday Schedule Now Back to All Sitcoms

Community star Joel McHale just got a little more busier. For more than a decade, E!'s popular comedy franchise The Soup has entertained the pop culture cynic in all of us by mocking, dissecting and highlighting the most shameful moments in television and pop culture. From cringe worthy make out sessions at the Jersey Shore to Anderson Cooper's school girl giggle to Honey Boo Boo in all her glory, The Soup has been there every step of the way. But now, The Soup team, led by host Joel McHale, will delve deeper into the Hollywood vortex to examine pop culture mysteries, celebrity rumors and the shocking questions that entertainment fans never thought to ask... and probably shouldn't have. The new spin-off special The Soup Investigates premieres Wednesday, June 19 at 10:30pm ET/PT on E! following a new episode of The Soup at 10pm ET/PT.

Among the guests joining Joel McHale to discuss these investigations is Christine Lakin of Step by Step & Lovin' Lakin (pictured above with McHale). Some of the topics covered will be: How DOES that rose get from the grower's field to The Bachelor's hand just in time for the all-important rose ceremony? What do people, like Tila Tequila, really keep in their storage lockers? And how deep does the "Beliebers" dedication to their main man run? Host Joel McHale and our investigative reporters will be working around the clock to get to the truth by probing, penetrating and thrusting themselves into any and all forbidden places, shady sources, and promising leads. Stay tuned for further updates if this special turns into a series. And the more Lakin on our screens, the better!

Up

The Saturday afternoon drama block on UP is now going back to sitcoms after just a few weeks. As we announced a few weeks ago, Saturday afternoons had four episodes of Touched by an Angel or 7th Heaven rotating each week from 1-5pm. Now sitcom marathons will take over from 1-5pm. 227 aired this past Saturday, with Sister, Sister airing this coming Saturday (June 22), and Moesha on June 29. The regular Saturday morning sitcoms will remain intact with an hour each of Smart Guy, Sister Sister, Moesha and 227 from 9am-1pm. This is not that big of a deal for Touched by an Angel and 7th Heaven because both also air on the regular weekday schedule.

No other schedule changes will be made on UP, so that means the weekday schedule will remain intact with The Waltons leading it off from 10am-12pm, followed by 7th Heaven at noon. Judging Amy airs from 1-3pm leading into Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman at 3. At 4pm, reruns of Heartland airs into back-to-back hours of 7th Heaven from 5-7pm. Then in primetime, Touched by An Angel airs back-to-back at 7 & 8pm. From 9-11pm, it is still different programming every night, with a day of Touched by an Angel, 7th Heaven, Heartland or original series Family Addition With Leigh Anne Tuohy. In late night, sitcoms are still intact with an hour of 227 at 11, Moesha from 12-1am, more 227 from 1-2am and Family Ties hour from 2-3am to close out the night.

Summer Week 3 Sitcom Ratings; New Sitcoms On TV This Summer

Summer has started but there are still sitcom airings, new and repeats. We will be back with our normal weekly ratings report with the first four nights numbers and analysis in the fall, but we still will have our regular how the sitcoms did all summer long! Here are our summer ratings:

Summer Week 3 (June 10-16) How the Network Sitcoms Did

Last Sunday Sitcoms (counts for week of June 3-9)
  • The Simpsons (Fox) - A summer repeat at 8pm did 2.4 million and a 1.01 18-49 rating, which is down about five tenths 18-49 from previous week.
  • The Cleveland Show (Fox) - A repeat at 7pm did only 1.58 million and a 0.67 18-49 rating, but that is just about on par in 18-49 with previous week.

  • New Girl (Fox) - A repeat at 9 did 1.31 million and just a 0.6 18-49 rating, but again on par in 18-49 with previous week. It doesn't repeat well for an anchor, though.
  • Mike & Molly (CBS) 2 airings - 4.66 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating for a repeat, up two tenths in 18-49 from previous week.  A repeat earlier in the night at 8:30pm did 4.06 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating.

Tuesday Sitcoms
  • None.
Wednesday Sitcoms
  • The Middle (ABC) - A summer repeat did 4.45 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, once again on par in 18-49 with previous week. Steady as can be.
  • Family Tools (ABC) - A new episode at 8:30pm did 3.67 million and a 0.9 18-49 rating, also on par in 18-49 with previous week's series low.
  • Modern Family (ABC) - At 9pm, a summer repeat did 4.22 million and a 1.2 rating, down two tenths in 18-49 week-to-week.
  • How To Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life) (ABC) - A new episode at 9:30pm did 4.06 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, again down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week for a series low.
Thursday Sitcoms
  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS) - A repeat at 8 did 8.62 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Should stay above a 2 all summer.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS) - A repeat at 8:30pm did 6.34 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, which is down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week.
  • Save Me (NBC) 2 episodes - A repeat at 8 did 2.33 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating. A new episode followed with just 2.15 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating, down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. That's all the episodes NBC will be airing.
  • The Office (NBC) - A repeat at 9 did just 1.59 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating, again down a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week.
  • Parks and Recreation (NBC) - A repeat at 9:30pm did 1.54 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating, again down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week and this time it didn't build from its lead-in.
Friday Sitcoms
  • None.
Saturday Sitcoms
  • None.
Airing tonight (Sunday) are repeats of Fox Animation Domination from 7-10pm.

Summing it up. Repeats of The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as repeats of Modern Family, The Middle) or just plain old terrible (such as  repeats of New Girl and new airings of The Goodwin Games, Save Me).

Feeling the repeat blues? Look for original sitcoms on TV this summer. Some highlights include: Mondays at 8:30pm on Fox will be original episodes of The Goodwin Games at 8:30pm. ABC has original episodes of Family Tools on Wednesdays at 8:30pm and How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) on Wednesdays at 9:30pm through the end of June. Week four of the new season for hilarious cable sitcoms Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy is this Wednesday beginning at 8pm on ABC Family. TV Land will launch the summer season of Hot in Cleveland with a LIVE episode this Wednesday (June 19) at 10pm. The season premiere of The Exes follows at 10:30pm, followed by season two premiere of The Soul Man at 11pm only on TV Land. BET will return with the second half of the season of The Game on Tuesday, July 2 at 10pm. TBS airs Sullivan & Son Thursdays at 10, with week two this Thursday. Nick at Nite has the Scott Baio sitcom See Dad Run every Sunday at 8pm, while Wendell & Vinnie airs Thursdays at 8:30pm. FX's Charlie Sheen sitcom Anger Management airs Thursdays at 9:30pm. Digital Digest: One Last Bang of the Gavel for Night Court; Falcon Crest - The Complete Third Season DVD Review

Welcome to Digital Digest! We're getting very close to the official start of the summer season, but we don't stop for reruns around here. This week, we have a review of Warner Archive's release of Falcon Crest - The Complete Third Season. Let's get going!

DIGITAL NEWS

We spent a long time waiting on seasons of the sitcom Night Court when it was first released, but once it transitioned to Warner Archive, the waiting time between seasons shrunk dramatically. Now, all of that waiting has paid off, as Warner Archive released the final season this week, in Night Court - The Complete Ninth Season. The three-disc, 22 episode collection includes the ending of the classic series (aside of course from that wedding that fans were sure would happen, but didn't... you'll have to turn to 30 Rock for an attempt to see that happen).

Meanwhile, over at Warner Home Video, a release is finally set for The Middle - The Complete Third Season on DVD. For some unknown reason, this release never quite made it out when all of the other 2011-2012 seasons of on-going series was released, but we'll certainly take it a year late if we have to. The date that has been set for this release is October 8, so it is still a while off. Nonetheless, it is coming.

Perhaps what many fans are interested in from Warner Home Video, though, is The Big Bang Theory, and now, there seems to be a date for The Big Bang Theory - The Complete Sixth Season (DVD and Blu-ray). As of right now, it appears that we'll be seeing that in stores on September 10.

Finally, Universal has set a new date for The Office - Season Nine (DVD and Blu-ray). You can expect to find this set in stores on September 3. As of right now, there is no indication of any complete series set in the works to bundle all of it together, but I wouldn't be completely surprised to see one. This is a series that would certainly seem to work in that form.

UPCOMING WEEK PREVIEW
Tuesday (June 18) brings the release of the FX series Wilfred with the Fox release of Wilfred - The Complete Second Season (DVD and Blu-ray). Also, ABC Studios has Body of Proof - The Complete Third Season. We'll have a review of that set next week.

BLOG FEATURE REVIEW

Blog DVD Review: Falcon Crest - The Complete Third Season (Warner Archive, $49.95)
by skees53

The 1980s was a busy decade for primetime soap operas. Although they all began in the late 1970s with Dallas, it wasn't long before there were many other series with twists of their own. Perhaps the last debut of the "successful" primetime soap operas, though, was yet another series from Lorimar (which had already brought Dallas and Knots Landing), this time Falcon Crest. It was a series much like Dallas, a story about a  family constantly fighting for control over the family business. Except this time, the family business was wine, and instead of a corrupt man at the top, it was a woman: Angela Channing (played by Jane Wyman, the first wife of the then newly elected President Reagan). The series followed the constant feuding of the family, and managed to last for nine seasons and 227 episodes. After a long wait since the release of the second season, Warner Archive now brings us Falcon Crest - The Complete Third Season. The seven disc set (presented in two volumes, but you'll have to buy them both together) brings all 28 episodes of the 1983-1984 season together in a set available exclusively directly from the Warner Archive website (and will likely be available at other websites soon).

If you are not familiar with this series (or this season), you may want to skip the next few paragraphs, as they may be a "semi-spoiler." It is hard to talk about series like this without spoiling some of the plots, but I will attempt to be at least somewhat vague in these descriptions, and at times, describe only some of the smaller plots that are not necessarily critical stories.

This season begins by picking up from a cliffhanger in "Cimmerean Dawn," where a fatal gunshot (you'll have to watch to find out who was shot!) changes the lives of everybody. Angela uses a bit of blackmail to get Chase declared incompetent in "Penumbra." Unfortunately, that very plan may potentially backfire on Angela in "Conspiracy." The competency battle heads to court in "Partners," and Angela is in for quite a big unpleasant surprise. Chase makes his return to Falcon Crest in "Judge and Jury," but of course, Angela isn't interested in seeing that go too well. Judgement day has arrived for Julia on her murder charges in "The Wages of Sin." In "The Last Laugh," Julia enters prison, but quickly finds that not all enemies of the Channing family are on the outside, but she may just find some protection in the next episode, "Solitary Confinements."

Some of Angela's corruption becomes uncovered while Dr. Lantry is being investigated in "Chameleon Charades." In "Double Dealing," Angela manages to get Dr. Lantry in jail, but now he poses an even bigger threat to her. Dr. Lantry confesses what he did to Chase in "The Betrayal," but it may be too late to implicate Angela when he gives himself a lethal dose of morphine. The story continues in "Coup d'Etat," where Chase could really use Dr. Lantry's testimony to take down Angela once and for all... but is time running out for him to testify? Yet another battle is brewing between Chase and Angela in "No Trespassing." Angela thwarts another plan of Chase's in "Sport of Kings."

Melissa and Lance play a little game of blackmail in "Power Play." Angela's latest scheme involves almost literally trading custody of a baby for land in "Changing Times." In "Tests of Faith," an escaped mental patient is on her way to Falcon Crest, but she knows it pretty well anyway. She continues to make her way back to Falcon Crest (but not without attention now) in "Little Boy Blue." In "The Gathering Storm," Lance finds out about the baby selling scheme, and is not too pleased. Maggie is in a bit of medical trouble in "Love's Triumph." Julia is still on the loose in "For Better, For Worse," and make no mistake: she isn't done with her murderous ways. Julia may have done it again in "The Avenger." The season ends with "Ashes to Ashes," which brings fans another one of those famous cliffhangers that we all knew and loved in these series.

The episodes seem to be unedited, with runtimes as follows:

Disc 1:
1. "Cimmerean Dawn" (49:11)
2. "Penumbra" (49:09)
3. "Conspiracy" (49:04)
4. "Partners" (49:09)

Disc 2:
5. "Judge and Jury" (49:07)
6. "The Wages of Sin" (49:11)

8. "Solitary Confinements" (49:07)

Disc 3:
9. "Chameleon Charades" (49:09)
10. "Double Dealing" (49:08)
11. "The Betrayal" (49:09)
12. "Coup d'Etat" (49:10)

Disc 4:
13. "No Trespassing" (49:11)
14. "Sport of Kings" (49:02)
15. "Queen's Gambit" (49:09)
16. "Bitter Harvest" (49:04)

Disc 5:

Disc 7:
25. "Win, Place, and Show" (49:09)
26. "For Better, For Worse" (49:05)
27. "The Avenger" (49:09)
28. "Ashes to Ashes" (49:09)

The set is packaged in two separate Viva cases, although both have the same artwork. I'm guessing that the reasoning behind this is because it is a lot easier to produce 3 or 4 disc sets than it is to produce a 7 disc set as manufacture on demand (MOD) product. Part 1 contains Discs 1-4, and Part 2 contains Discs 5-7. As of right now, you can only buy the two volumes as one set. The cover artwork has a large cast photo, along with a few episode snapshots along the bottom of the front cover. On the back, there is a brief description of the third season, along with a few more episode snapshots. The discs inside each case all list the episode titles included on each disc. Of course, even though this is technically a MOD product, like most Warner Archive releases, the initial copies of this set are actually pressed DVDs, and not DVD-R products.

The menus on the set are pretty simple. On the main menu of each disc, you'll essentially find the exact same artwork as seen on the cover of the set, although it is a little different for both parts of the season. Part 1 discs have the large cast photo on the menu, while Part 2 discs have the small snapshot photos on the menu. The episodes, along with a Play All option, are listed on the right side of the main menu. Once you play an episode, it starts immediately. Chapters are placed throughout each episode.

The video quality of the episodes on the set is similar to the quality of the episodes of Dallas on DVD. If you haven't seen that series on DVD, you should know that is not necessarily a compliment, but it isn't a huge disaster either. Basically, the video looks rather dated, the colors seem a bit unnatural at times, and you'll find a lot of scratches here and there. The audio is a somewhat dull mono track. All in all, it isn't as bad as it may, but it is just typical quality for something from the early '80s that hasn't really been remastered. Unfortunately, there is no closed-captioning.

As is common with most Warner Archive releases, this set has no special features.
It took quite a while to get from the second season to the third season, but I'm hopeful that this means that the series is back on track to be completed. There were four big prime time soaps in the '80s, and all of them had very long runs. We still have an entire six seasons to go for this one. The series has a pretty big fanbase, and it probably goes without saying that those fans will want to own this set. But I think fans of other similar series, particularly Dallas and Dynasty, will find this series enjoyable as well.

(4/5 stars)

FOLLOW ME

Who to Follow: Mr. T (Twitter), "Footballer, wrestler, soldier, bouncer, bodyguard & actor. Professional pitier of fools."
Claim to Fame: I "pity the fool" who would even ask this question! But in case you do, this man was born as Laurence Tureaud... although few people probably know that. After graduating from high school, he joined the military and even tried out for the Green Bay Packers. That didn't work out, so he became a bodyguard and a bar bouncer. Eventually, he became known to the American public and went on to play the role of B.A. Baracus in the classic series The A-Team.
Why You Should Follow Him: This shouldn't even be a question. Mr. T is a bit of an outlandish character that we all came to love on The A-Team for his tough but loveable attitude. Very few people can truly call themselves an icon of American culture, but he is certainly one of them. Reading his Twitter feed is a lot like reading lines of what B.A. Baracus would be saying on The A-Team if it were still on the air today. Lately, he has been talking quite a bit about the NHL playoffs, which he is clearly a very big fan of, but he also gives a lot of opinions about who he thinks the fools are in society... and whether you agree with him or not, they're all pretty humorous to read. You'll even find some of his religious beliefs sprinkled throughout his Twitter feed, as it may surprise some people to find that he is devoted Christian... although it shouldn't be incredibly surprising, as his own father was a minister.
Pick of the Tweets: "There are three Ts in @twitter - but only one that counts!" (June 6, 2013)

That's all for this week. Until next time, keep it digital!

Seinfeld Reunion on Kirstie Alley TV Land Sitcom This Fall; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of June 17, 2013)

Kirstie

Looks like we have a Seinfeld mini-reunion on TV Land this fall. Jason Alexander has officially moved on from Vandalay Industries – now he's got a new job as Broadway star Maddie Banks' (Kirstie Alley) agent in TV Land's new sitcom Kirstie (formerly titled Kirstie's New Show) in a guest starring role. Set to tape later this month, the episode reunites Alexander with his former Seinfeld co-star Michael Richards who plays Alley's eccentric driver in the new comedy. The sitcom already was going to be a Cheers reunion since Alley and former Cheers co-star Rhea Perlman are in the main cast. Kirstie revolves around Madison "Maddie" Banks (Kirstie Alley, Cheers), a renowned Broadway star who finds her life turned upside down when Arlo (Eric Petersen), the son she gave up at birth, suddenly appears hoping to connect after his adoptive parents have died. However, Maddie doesn't exactly see nerdy and schlubby Arlo fitting in with her luxurious lifestyle. But when Maddie's assistant and best friend, Thelma (Rhea Perlman, Cheers), and outlandish driver Frank (Michael Richards, Seinfeld) encourage her to give Arlo a chance, Maddie is shocked to find that perhaps she has motherly instincts after all.

TV Land has ordered 12 episodes of the sitcom. We will have a premiere date very soon. In other TV Land news, just the other day we mentioned 'Til Death is coming to TV Land and we mentioned it would just be airing on Saturdays...but now it will be airing more. The sitcom will also air weekdays 7-8pm as well as the previously announced Saturday block from 5-8pm. The weekday block will lead-in to Everybody Loves Raymond, which also stars Brad Garrett. As a reminder, TV Land launches Friends tonight. Friends will also be part of the "Summer of Sitcoms Marathons," a four-nights-per-week extravaganza every Thursday through Sunday starting at 10pm ET/PT beginning June 20. TV Land has Doug and Carrie heading up Thursday nights on King of Queens, a super Friends Friday, Ray and his crazy (but loveable) family on Everybody Loves Raymond on Saturday, and your favorite seniors on The Golden Girls on Sunday. And finally, as we mentioned Three's Company is back on weekday mornings from 5-6am but it will also air Sunday mornings from 6am-10am starting June 30.

It's Friday, so it is time for "Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows" for the coming week. This is where we list what sitcom stars are appearing on talk shows for the coming week, the stars are both current and past sitcom stars, so this is for all sitcom fans of all eras!
For the week of June 17-21, 2013, we have many current sitcom stars and past sitcom stars on TV talk shows! All times listed are Eastern. So get your DVR's (or whatever you use) ready! Ready? Here is all what you need to know for the coming week!

Centric is also adding another hour of Moesha replacing Malcolm & Eddie weekdays from 2-3pm. Moesha will also remain in its 12-1am block as well and in the mornings on BET, but Malcolm & Eddie is now off of the Centric schedule. TV Land Brings in 'Til Death; Alfonso Ribeiro Joins ABC Family Series

'Til Death

TV Land is going to start airing the Brad Garrett/Joely Fisher sitcom 'Til Death beginning Saturday, June 22. The former Fox sitcom had been bought by Viacom sibling Spike TV for reruns back in Fall 2011, but the sitcom was quickly dropped due to low ratings, along with The King of Queens. That sitcom quickly made its move to TV Land and has been a success on that network. Now, TV Land will start airing 'Til Death as well with it airing on weekends beginning Saturday, June 22. The sitcom will launch with a block from 5-8pm following Roseanne. As of now, weekends will be the only times the sitcom will air. 'Til Death is still going to air on other networks. 'Til Death airs late nights on WGN America, bright and early on Saturday mornings on Cloo and also airs in local syndication as well, mainly in late night. This isn't the only new addition, as we mentioned already Friends is joining the TV Land schedule this Friday (June 14) with a five-night marathon, but that is an actual launch that was planned for months.

In other TV Land news, Three's Company is back on the schedule airing early mornings weekdays at 5:00am & 5:30am, as Home Improvement exits the line-up for now. Also, with the addition of 'Til Death, this means Murder, She Wrote is off of the line-up, as that series was airing on Saturdays. On this series, the newlywed Woodcocks get a primer on life together from their new neighbors and twenty-five-year veterans of marriage, the Starks. Stay with us for continued updates on TV Land!

Alfonso Ribeiro

Alfonso Ribeiro has been named host of ABC Family's new comedic series Spell-Mageddon. The one-hour game show puts a fresh spin on the spelling bee, where contestants take on hilarious distractions while spelling increasingly challenging words, as we announced a few weeks ago. Production begins on Monday, June 17, in Studio City. The show will join ABC Family's Wednesday night comedy line-up on Wednesday, July 24 at 9pm ET/PT following new episodes of sitcoms Melissa and Joey and Baby Daddy. Ribeiro, best known for his role as Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and on the sitcom Silver Spoons, is a writer, actor, director and host, and was recently seen on The Graham Norton Show reuniting with Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff for the first time on stage in over a decade.

Jaime Lyn Bauer

Our buddy Chris Mann recently released his latest episode of Reimagine That! The latest episode has classic Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives star Jaime Lyn Bauer. She shared with Chris, her emotional remembrances of the late, great Jeanne Cooper. "I loved Jeanne," Jaime Lyn says, choking back tears. "She was a very important person in my life. She saved me through some of my worst years. She befriended me, she mothered me. She was an incredible woman. And she was very troubled at that time as well, in her personal life. And we were good for each other. We hung out a lot. I even dated Corbin, her son, for a while, and she was graciously alright with it." She also talked about what sitcom legend Henry Winkler (Happy Days) taught her about dealing with fans, how Leslie Nielsen shielded her from a physically threatening Y&R viewer who hated Lorie Brooks, and how she drew on her observations at The Playboy Mansion in creating Y&R's original bad girl-turned-heroine. Speaking of Young and the Restless, same day reruns will begin on Monday, July 1, 2013 on TVGN and air weekdays at 7pm and again the next day at 10am.

This is part one of Chris' interview with Jaime Lyn Bauer. In part 2, which is posting on Friday, she talks about being approached recently for Y&R to return for a week of taping ... and where she'd see her iconic character of Lorie Brooks nearly 40 years after she first premiered (around the time that Jeanne Cooper's character did) on Y&R. Part 2 will be timed to be published before the Daytime Emmys this weekend. As you may know, this awards show will include a tribute to Jeanne Cooper. Also coming up on Friday's show: a fun "Reality Reimagined" interview with TV historian/author and Comfort TV creator/blogger David Hofstede. But before part two comes out, go listen to part one. And stay with us for continued updates.

UP and Hallmark Revise Schedules; ABC Family Adds Extra Melissa & Joey, Baby Daddy This Wednesday

Starting today (Monday, June 10) The Waltons is back regularly on UP (formerly known as GMC) replacing Family Ties from 10am-12pm Monday-Friday. The drama was airing in the block previously but Family Ties was slotted in this block last week but looks like the ratings weren't good enough as the veteran '70s drama is back. Family Ties will continue to still air weeknights from 2-3am, though. This was a last minute decision late on Friday, so there are no other schedule changes for UP, so everything else will remain intact. In more news on The Waltons, we have some schedule maneuvers for Hallmark Channel as well that was announced last minute and also begins today. The Waltons get a better slot and an additional hour added, as the series moves to 4pm & 5pm. The drama was airing at 2pm, but now The Brady Bunch is moving to afternoons and will air from 2-4pm leading into The Waltons. As you know, The Brady Bunch was airing 5-8pm, but now The Waltons will take that 5pm hour and Little House on the Prairie once again moves to a prime slot airing weekdays from 6-9pm. Little House on the Prairie was airing in the afternoons from 3-5pm, so now it gains an hour and moves to a better block. Frasier was airing from 8pm-12am, but will now be reduced by an hour to 9pm-12am (with encores from 3-5am still). Everything else remain intact, as Happy Days is still not back on the schedule. Stay with us for continued updates on both UP and Hallmark Channel, as always.

Melissa & Joey

ABC Family is adding an extra all-new episode each for its original sitcoms this Wednesday (June 12), as we first broke on Twitter on Friday. Comedic dancing clip series Dancing Fools is being pulled from the Wednesday schedule beginning this Wednesday at 9pm, so as a result Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy will get an extra episode each for one week only. The sitcoms will still have original episodes in their normal 8:00pm & 8:30pm timeslots, but at 9:00pm another new Baby Daddy episode will air, followed by another new Melissa & Joey at 9:30pm on June 12. Then Wednesdays beginning June 19, encores of Baby Daddy and Melissa & Joey will air in the 9pm hour following original episodes in the 8pm hour until July 24 when Spell-Mageddon launches. As for Dancing Fools (which is hosted by Baby Daddy star Melissa Peterman), the series is being moved to Fridays starting this Friday (June 14) at 7:00pm replacing an America's Funniest Home Videos rerun. Then a rerun of Dancing Fools will follow at 7:30pm, followed by encores of Baby Daddy and Melissa & Joey in the 8pm hour to create a new Friday night comedy block. Dancing Fools has struggled in the ratings in its first two weeks so ABC Family is quickly moving it to a less pressure night. But we can't wait for double the action on Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy this Wednesday! Stay tuned for any further updates.

Summer Week 2 Sitcom Ratings; New Sitcoms On TV This Summer

Summer has started but there are still sitcom airings, new and repeats. We will be back with our normal weekly ratings report with the first four nights numbers and analysis in the fall, but we still will have our regular how the sitcoms did all summer long! Here are our summer ratings:

Summer Week 2 (June 3-9) How the Network Sitcoms Did

Last Sunday Sitcoms (counts for week of May 27-June 2)
  • The Simpsons (Fox) - A summer repeat at 8pm did 3.24 million and a 1.46 18-49 rating, which is pretty good for a summer repeat in 18-49.
  • The Cleveland Show (Fox) - A repeat at 7pm did only 1.83 million and a 0.72 18-49 rating.
  • Bob's Burgers (Fox) - An encore airing at 8:30pm did 2.92 million and a 1.31 18-49 rating, off some from its lead-in.
  • Family Guy (Fox) 2 airings - A repeat at 9 posted 3.58 million and a 1.69 18-49 rating, while a second repeat at 9:30pm followed with an even better 3.72 million and a 1.77 18-49 rating. Very good in 18-49.
  • American Dad! (Fox) - A repeat at 7:30pm did 2.06 million and a 0.93 18-49 rating.
Monday Sitcoms
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS) - A repeat at 8 did 3.43 million and a 0.8 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week's Memorial Day airing.

  • Rules of Engagement (CBS) - A repeat of this comedy did 3.42 million and a 0.8 18-49 rating, like its lead-in, down a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week.
  • The Goodwin Games (Fox) - A brand new episode at 8:30pm did only 1.62 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 for its best rating yet.
  • 2 Broke Girls (CBS) - A repeat did 4.52 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week like all CBS Monday comedies so far.
  • New Girl (Fox) - A repeat at 9 did 1.4 million and just a 0.6 18-49 rating, again on par in 18-49 with previous week. It doesn't repeat well for an anchor, though.
  • Mike & Molly (CBS) - 5.0 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating for a repeat, but this was down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week.
  • Anger Management (Fox) - A new episode, and the first airing ever on Fox, did 1.65 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating at 9:30pm, a tenth better in 18-49 than previous week's Mindy repeat.
Tuesday Sitcoms
  • None.
Wednesday Sitcoms

  • Family Tools (ABC) - A new episode at 8:30pm did 3.44 million and a 0.9 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week, for a series low.
  • Modern Family (ABC) - At 9pm, a summer repeat did 4.49 million and a 1.4 rating, on par in 18-49 week-to-week.
  • How To Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life) (ABC) - A new episode at 9:30pm did 3.86 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week for a series low.
Thursday Sitcoms
  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS) - A repeat at 8 did 9.4 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Nice. Should stay above a 2 all summer.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS) - A repeat at 8:30pm did 7.23 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, which is good for a repeat of course.
  • Save Me (NBC) 2 episodes - The first all-new episode did 3.12 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, back up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. A second episode followed with just 2.76 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, also up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week.
  • The Office (NBC) - A repeat at 9 did just 1.83 million and a 0.6 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week.
  • Parks and Recreation (NBC) - A repeat at 9:30pm did 1.76 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week but built from its lead-in for the third straight week.
Friday Sitcoms
  • None.
Saturday Sitcoms
  • Last Man Standing (ABC) - A special repeat at 8 did a preliminary 1.87 million and a prelim 0.3 18-49 rating.
Airing tonight (Sunday) are repeats of Fox Animation Domination from 7-10pm.

Summing it up. Repeats of The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, & Family Guy (from week 1) were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as repeats of Modern Family, The Middle) or just plain old terrible (such as  repeats of New Girl and new airings of The Goodwin Games, Save Me).

Feeling the repeat blues? Look for original sitcoms on TV this summer. Some highlights include: Mondays at 8:30pm on Fox will be original episodes of The Goodwin Games at 8:30pm and a brand new episode of the FX sitcom Anger Management starring Charlie Sheen Mondays at 9:30pm on Fox tomorrow night. ABC has original episodes of Family Tools on Wednesdays at 8:30pm and How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) on Wednesdays at 9:30pm through the end of June. Lastly on broadcast, NBC has back-to-back episodes of Save Me on Thursdays starting at 8pm. Week three of the new season for hilarious cable sitcoms Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy is this Wednesday beginning at 8pm on ABC Family. And there will be a special bonus hour of both series with new episodes in the 9pm hour as well! TV Land will launch the summer season of Hot in Cleveland with a LIVE episode on Wednesday, June 19 at 10pm. The season premiere of The Exes follows at 10:30pm, followed by season two premiere of The Soul Man at 11pm only on TV Land. BET will return with the second half of the season of The Game on Tuesday, July 2 at 10pm. TBS airs Men at Work Thursdays at 10pm, with Sullivan & Son coming June 13. Nick at Nite has the Scott Baio sitcom See Dad Run every Sunday at 8pm, while Wendell & Vinnie airs Thursdays at 8:30pm. FX's Charlie Sheen sitcom Anger Management also airs Thursdays at 9:30pm. New sitcom airings are the perfect way to beat the summer blues! Digital Digest: 2012-2013 Season of CBS Sitcoms on DVD; Perry Mason - The Final (Ninth) Season, Volume 1 DVD Review

Welcome to Digital Digest! We're here with all of your regular weekly features, including a review of Perry Mason - The Final (Ninth) Season, Volume 1. Let's get going!

DIGITAL NEWS

The 2012-2013 seasons of several CBS sitcoms were announced on DVD this week... specifically, the ones that are released by Warner Home Video. Among these are Mike & Molly - The Complete Third Season (August 20), 2 Broke Girls - The Complete Second Season (September 24), and Two and a Half Men - The Complete Tenth Season (September 24). Since we're talking about all of these CBS sitcoms, that does leave a few more questions, such as when we'll see The Big Bang Theory - The Complete Sixth Season (DVD, Blu-ray) . Well, we don't have an answer for that yet, but it goes without saying that it will definitely be coming, and probably in September... but you can go ahead and pre-order it now if you just can't wait.

Of course, not every sitcom in the 2012-2013 season was a hit... but that doesn't mean that there is no hope of seeing the series on DVD. Universal will be releasing the NBC flop Guys with Kids as a MOD title in Guys with Kids - The Complete Series. No word if any of the other NBC "strugglers" from the past season will come as well.

Finally, while we're on the topic of MOD releases, CBS has one coming up on Tuesday that is worthy of being mentioned here: Becker - The Fifth Season. This leaves only one season of the series left to be released.

UPCOMING WEEK PREVIEW
Tuesday (June 11) has The Dick Van Dyke - The Complete Third Season (Blu-ray), which has already been seen through the complete series release of the series on Blu-ray. Meanwhile, CBS has their release of Perry Mason - The Final (Ninth) Season, Volume 1, which we have a review of today, and CBS also has their MOD release of Becker - The Fifth Season.

BLOG FEATURE REVIEW

Blog DVD Review: Perry Mason - The Final (Ninth) Season, Volume 1 (CBS, $45.98)
by skees53

Perry Mason is getting close to resting his case once and for all in Perry Mason - The Final (Ninth) Season, but not quite yet! It has been a long journey of half season releases, but we're finally on the last season of the series on DVD. We're pretty sure that everybody is familiar with who Perry Mason is and what the series is about, but just to briefly recap, the series stars Raymond Burr as Perry Mason, the defense attorney who takes the most difficult cases imaginable, cases that simply cannot be won... and turns them into winning cases against all odds. It was a rather formulaic approach to a series (one that worked very well when the series aired in the 50s and 60s), and the series has gone on to become the de facto standard as the classic legal drama. This four disc set contains the first fifteen episodes of the final season.

This season begins with "The Case of the Laughing Lady," where a woman is accused of murder... but a cackling laugh that she hears may point to the real killer. A successful business woman accepts a marriage proposal from her boss in "The Case of the Fatal Fortune," but he won't be around too long anyway. In "The Case of the Candy Queen," an owner of a company selling low-calorie sweets is accused of murder. A graduate student is accused of murdering an unpopular professor in "The Case of the Cheating Chancellor." Perry gets involved in a crime (inadvertently) in "The Case of the Impetuous Imp." In "The Case of the Carefree Coronary," Perry goes to work for an insurance company to investigate some fraud. A computer dating service leads to marriage in "The Case of the Hasty Honeymooner," but the marriage ends in murder, of course. A train fire leads to murder in "The Case of the 12th Bobcat."

In "The Case of the Wrathful Wraith," a widow tends to receive messages from beyond the grave. A race car driver is accused of murdering his business partner in "The Case of the Runaway Racer." In "The Case of the Silent Six," Lt. Drumm asks Perry to defend a cop accused of shooting a man in an act of vengeance. Perry goes abroad to help an expatriate German scientist in "The Case of the Fugitive Fraulein." In "The Case of the Baffling Bug," an espionage investigation uncovers murder. A beautiful hitchhiker knows secrets that could save the partner of a murdered mogul of a men's nightclub empire in "The Case of the Golden Girls" (no, not those Golden Girls). The set ends with "The Case of the Bogus Buccanneers," where door-to-door cosmetic salesmen are all dressed like a TV pirate pitchman... and only one of those pirates knows the secret behind a murder.

1. "The Case of the Laughing Lady" (50:56)
2. "The Case of the Fatal Fortune" (51:57)
3. "The Case of the Candy Queen" (51:57)
4. "The Case of the Cheating Chancellor" (51:55)

5. "The Case of the Impetuous Imp" (51:46)
6. "The Case of the Carefree Coronary" (51:56)
7. "The Case of the Hasty Honeymooner" (51:43)
8. "The Case of the 12th Wildcat" (51:55)

9. "The Case of the Wrathful Wraith" (51:48)
10. "The Case of the Runaway Racer" (51:51)
11. "The Case of the Silent Six" (51:46)
12. "The Case of the Fugitive Fraulein" (51:57)

13. "The Case of the Baffling Bug" (51:54)
14. "The Case of the Golden Girls" (51:58)
15. "The Case of the Bogus Buccaneers" (51:55)

The set is packaged in the typical Viva case, with artwork that is very similar to all of the previous sixteen releases. There is a large color photo of Perry on the cover, and a few snapshots on the back. The four discs inside, of course, have the standard series title on gray artwork. Episode titles, descriptions, and airdates are all printed inside the case.

Just as the packaging is the same as the previous releases, it goes without saying that the menus are identical as well. The main menu lists all of the episodes on the disc, along with a Play All option and a Subtitles option. Once you select the episode, it plays immediately. Chapters are placed throughout each episode.

Once again, the video and audio quality on the set is essentially perfect. CBS has done a great job of cleaning this series up, and aside from some very minimal grain and debris, this series almost looks like it could have been filmed just a few years ago (if they were filming in black and white, anyway). The audio is loud and clear, and there are English subtitles for each episode.

After a few brief special features on one of the eighth season releases, we're back to no special features this time.

It has been a long journey of half-season releases to get to this point, and to tell the truth, I never thought that we'd get here. I know that this is a popular series, but this particular set marks the seventeenth "volume" release of the series on DVD... seventeen releases! To put this into perspective, The Simpsons was first released on DVD in season sets (equivalent to the volumes here) twelve years ago, and they have so far only gotten sixteen seasons of that released. What is even better is that the final volume of the series is scheduled for just two months from now, so we'll get to see the series wrap up once and for all and be able to own all 271 episodes... not to mention that these DVDs have been nothing short of perfection in quality. Now, we only have to wait to see if all of the made-for-TV movies from the late 80s and early 90s make it to DVD. There were 26 of these, plus four more made with the Perry Mason title (but without Raymond Burr). These could be potentially released in two or three sets.

By now, you've either been buying the series on DVD or you haven't. If you are a fan of classic legal dramas, then you must have seen this by now. But if for some strange reason you haven't, this is just as good as any other place to start watching the series. The series stayed consistent throughout the seasons and never jumped the shark at all. Perhaps the formulaic nature of the series is why it stayed so consistent, but it is fun to watch all of these episodes on DVD.

(4/5 stars)

FOLLOW ME

Who to Follow: Karyn Parsons (Twitter/Facebook), "Mama/Writer/Actress/Producer."
Claim to Fame: Parsons is best known (and, perhaps to many, it is the only thing for which she is known) as the ever so obnoxious Hilary Banks on the NBC series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She has also appeared in a few short-lived series, but her current project is Sweet Blackberry, which is a production studio behind producing animated films about some of the lesser known heroes in black history.
Why You Should Follow Her: I loved discovering the "true Hilary Banks" on Twitter. She is a character that we all loved and remembered, but we somewhat forget about the actress who played that role. When you get to know her on Twitter, you begin to discover that Karyn Parsons is about the complete opposite of Hilary Banks. She is much more intelligent and has a very good grasp upon reality, which is perhaps what made her portrayal of that role even better. What is even more great is how close she is to most of her "family" from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air even to this day, and is proud of her character from that series. By the way, she is a probably a bit more interesting to follow on Facebook than Twitter... even though the feeds are the same, she posts a lot of links and videos, which tend to get lost as a bunch of URLs on many of her Twitter postings.
Pick of the Tweets: " Happy Birthday, to my dear baby bro, Alfonso! I love you!!! " (September 12, 2012)

That's all for this week. Until next time, keep it digital!

Seven Questions with Melissa Rycroft of Dancing with the Stars; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of June 10, 2013)

Today we have a special "Seven Questions" interview with the very likeable Melissa Rycroft, who of course won Dancing with the Stars: All Stars last fall! Paired with professional dancer Tony Dovolani, Rycroft "waltzed" her way into America's hearts and into a third place finish on season eight of the hit ABC series Dancing with the Stars (and later on the All-Star edition). Soon after she took on co-hosting duties on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin New Year's Eve with Ryan Seacrest for ABC, as well as joined ABC News as a special contributor for Good Morning America, delivering fun and uplifting stories from across the country and from Hollywood's most glamorous red carpets. She has also been a host or reporter for Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, and Bachelor Pad. In the midst of her entertainment career taking off, Rycroft found time to reconnect with the true love of her life, Tye Strickland. In little time the two were married and welcomed daughter Ava Grace to the world. Rycroft first gained fame as a member of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, appearing on two seasons of CMT's Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team. Then she followed with a stint on The Bachelor. She has graced the cover of the People magazine and was featured among their 100 Most Beautiful People of 2009. Rycroft has also been named to Maxim's Hot 100 list. Rycroft graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in marketing and resides in Dallas with Tye and Ava. She had her own CMT reality series last spring called Melissa & Tye, as they packed their bags and moved to L.A.
We talked to her about the Dancing experience obviously, but she is now promoting the launch of the Unconditional Fun Sweepstakes to celebrate the Banana Boat® ultimate fun family! We find out how she got involved with this brand, her experiences on Dancing with the Stars, what she thinks of the Results Show being eliminated next fall and if she has any acting aspirations next. So let's get right to another installment of "Seven Questions!"

"Seven Questions with Melissa Rycroft"

Melissa Rycroft

SitcomsOnline: It is so great to finally interview you! We have been a fan and a supporter of yours for quite some time. Hope you remember us and our tweets! Anyway, so glad you have partnered with Energizer Personal Care, the makers of Banana Boat® sunscreen. Can you tell us how you got into this?
Melissa Rycroft: I have always been an active person and was raised in a very athletic family, but since becoming a mom I feel like I've been more active than ever! My family really enjoys being outdoors, and during our family fun time outside, I want to be sure we're protected from the elements. With summer just around the corner, it was the perfect time to partner with Banana Boat® and their Unconditional Fun Sweepstakes to encourage families to get out and experience memorable moments together while protecting their skin from the sun.

Melissa with Tye and Ava

SitcomsOnline: So you mentioned there is a sweepstakes portion for Banana Boat® sunscreen as well. How can families enter and what prizes are in store?
Melissa Rycroft: That's right! For seven weeks, Banana Boat® is giving families the opportunity to enter to win summer fun prizes including an outdoor swing set, an inflatable waterpark, and bikes for a family of four; and one family will win the ultimate four-day, three-night family getaway to any of the ten U.S. Great Wolf Lodge® Waterpark Resorts. Families can enter to win by uploading a picture of their family having fun in one of the 7 conditions or simply by clicking “Enter to Win” on the Banana Boat brand Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BananaBoatBrand

Melissa Rycroft Banana Boat

SitcomsOnline: Your daughter Ava is really an angel and I can't believe it has been 2 years since she was born! Does she like playing outside in the sun with you and Tye? Using that sunscreen will sure come in handy today in this hot and humid day here in NY. (Note: This interview was conducted last week.)
Melissa Rycroft: Yes! Ava adores being outside in the sun. We love spending time taking family trips to the lake or the beach, or just doing anything outdoors! I also feel like that time outdoors is important not only for building family memories, but also to showing Ava how important a sun protection regimen is to helping keep your skin safe from harmful UV rays. She’s growing up so fast, and I hope that teaching her healthy skin care habits now will give her the tools she needs to continue those habits in the future.

Dancing with the Stars: All Stars

SitcomsOnline: Let's talk Dancing with the Stars for a bit, you were so great on season eight and then in the All-Star edition. I know you never thought you'd win the all-star edition, but we had a feeling you would. Can you share some secrets from behind the scenes of DWTS that many people probably don't know about? It seems like such a fun place.
Melissa Rycroft: Dancing with the Stars: All Stars was really an amazing experience, and it definitely topped my first round on dancing--though that's probably because we won! All around it was a great experience. The cast became so close, rehearsals became fun rather than a chore, and I had a blast with Tony!

SitcomsOnline: Which stars do you think should hit the dance floor on the upcoming fall season?
Melissa Rycroft: You know, I would recommend Dancing with the Stars to anyone and everyone that is considering joining the cast; it's such a fantastic experience and not one I will ever forget – plus it gets you in incredible shape! I won't name names, but I can certainly think of a number of people that I would personally love to see hit the floor!

Dancing with the Stars: All Stars Champion

SitcomsOnline: What is your take on the Dancing Results Show being eliminated this fall? How do you think they will handle the elimination process now on the performance show itself? It sounds action-packed!
Melissa Rycroft: I think there are lots of viewers that look forward to the results show (and I know I did as a contestant!), but there will still be two full seasons next year and it will give the competitors more time to train for their dances and competition. As for how they will handle the elimination process moving forward? I guess we'll all have to tune in and watch!

Dancing with the Stars: Season 8

SitcomsOnline: Finally, what's coming up next for Melissa Rycroft? Any more GMA correspondent stories or another series? You need to be on TV every day. Frankly, we think you have the charisma and charm to star in a sitcom...any acting aspirations? Thank you for your time and hope we can actually meet one day!
Melissa Rycroft: Thank you! To be honest, right now I'm enjoying my family time. Summer is definitely the best time to take a few months off and relax with loved ones. We'll see what's in store in the future, but right now my focus is on family.

We definitely appreciate Melissa for taking the time to give us an interview to promote Banana Boat® and their Unconditional Fun Sweepstakes. She is so very nice and don't forget to enter the sweepstakes for your chance to win! That'll do it for this installment of "Seven Questions," stay tuned next time for another brand new interview! But first, don't forget to check out Melissa Rycroft all over the web and social media. Follow her everywhere!
