WGN America Acquires Mad About You, 'Til Death for Fall 2011; CBS Summer Schedule Update

WGN America has acquired two more comedies for Fall 2011! The long-running '90s comedy Mad About You will join the WGN America line-up this fall along with the Brad Garrett Fox comedy 'Til Death. The latter is entering syndication this fall on both WGN America and on broadcast syndication, so be on the look out for it on your local stations! As a reminder, Mad About You is joining Tribune-owned (who also owns WGN America) Antenna TV starting next week as well.
We won't reveal the exact timeslots yet for Mad About You and 'Til Death, because we have our annual fall schedules posts coming up this summer where we will reveal the full schedules for all the cable networks who air comedies.
As previously announced, WGN America will launch the syndication premieres of 30 Rock, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Futurama this fall as well in the late night block following Scrubs. After just one season in syndication, Warner Bros. will remove Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage from syndication (on WGN America and local stations), due to low ratings.
Just how will all these sitcoms be scheduled? Stay with us this summer and you'll find out!

CBS has announced some summer schedule updates. First, they will burn-off the 10 remaining episodes of the canceled drama series Chaos starting this Saturday from 8-10pm. The drama will then move to 8pm the following week for eight weeks. And it looks like we have seen the last of canceled comedy Mad Love and the canceled Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. CBS will not be airing repeats in the summer, as How I Met Your Mother will also repeat at 8:30pm on Monday nights instead of Mad Love. As of now, this will run through June, but could be extended longer. Meanwhile, Friday drama Blue Bloods will take over for Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior for four weeks starting June 1, before CSI moves into its new night and time starting Wednesday, June 29. The long-running crime drama will be airing new episodes on this night and time starting in September. The Thursdays at 9pm airings will be ending June 30, as Big Brother will take over in July.
In other updates, CBS will air repeats of Undercover Boss on Wednesdays at 8pm for four weeks starting June 8 before Big Brother takes over in July. Sundays at 8pm will be also Big Brother starting in July, but before that, look for a mix of crime repeats and award shows on the night.

Three's a Crowd Premieres June 27 on Antenna TV; TeenNick Acquires Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared

In January we mentioned that the Three's Company spin-off series (or as most call it, a follow-up series), Three's a Crowd will premiere on Monday, June 27 in the Three's Company timeslots (Mon-Thurs 6-7pm and encores 12-1am) only on Antenna TV...vintage without the funny smell. This is still on target and is now official! See what happens to Jack Tripper as he moves in with his girlfriend Vicky! Three's Company will return to the timeslots after the 22 episodes of the spin-off air, so on Thursday, July 14, you can see Jack Tripper move in with Janet & Chrissy from the beginning all over again! This is such a unique way of airing the series and both spin-offs, as I have mentioned already. We are glad Antenna TV is doing this! And for those of you who missed The Ropers, not to worry, you'll see it again next time on Antenna TV in the rotation when they move out of Three's Company.
Elsewhere on Antenna TV, they are getting for their new schedule that will start next week (May 30), that we announced first. You'll see Burns & Allen and Mad About You join the weekday line-up and then on Sundays, you can catch a new morning block of rare gems Circus Boy, The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin and Iron Horse! And if that's not all, Sunday nights get funner with the zany soap opera sitcom Soap airing in a two-hour block!
Movies airing in June will be some classics, some gems and some rarities. It's a nice mix. Some of the films include Ghostbusters II, The Indian In The Cupboard, Sunset Park, Glitter, Vice Versa, Mixed Nuts, Stairway to Heaven and many more!

The other day we told you about Buffy the Vampire Slayer finally coming to TeenNick, and don't worry Sunnydale fans that is still happening on May 30, but starting June 13, two more series will join the line-up! The short-lived series Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared will join the late night line-up. Freaks & Geeks will air after Buffy at 11pm and Undeclared will air at 12:00am & 12:30am. Freaks & Geeks will also air at 2am following another Buffy at 1am. Both series had Seth Rogen in them.
These two series have been airing on IFC, as we reported. However, they only air them once a week, and TeenNick is planning to air them six nights a week (every night except Friday nights). Both series only have 18 episodes, so this could be temporary only, as TeenNick is getting ready for its new "The '90s Are All That" late night block this fall. Stay with us...

Hallmark Channel June 2011 Highlights; BET Schedules Chris, Harvey Stunts

The Hallmark Channel has announced its June 2011 schedule and highlights. There is no change to the regular line-up, but there are plenty of stunts. Back on the May 2011 highlights, we gave you details on the Memorial Day weekend marathon. There are now changes to the Monday portion of the three-day stunt. Instead of an assorted series marathon, we will get a Frasier marathon on Memorial Day itself from 3pm-11pm. If that's not all, a two-hour block will air from 9-11am in its normal morning slot (instead of the planned Empty Nest block) leading into the Martha at Home block. Regular airing of The Golden Girls, Cheers and more The Golden Girls will follow from 11pm-5am.
New stunts for June 2011 will have a marathon of The Waltons on Sunday, June 5 from 2pm-10pm. Saturday, June 25 will have an all-day sitcom stunt starting at 6am with two hours of I Love Lucy leading into Empty Nest from 7am-11am. The Golden Girls will follow from 11am-2pm, with Frasier airing from 2pm-5pm. And if you want more The Golden Girls, you got it from 5pm-8pm leading into a primetime delight of Frasier from 8pm-11pm. Cheers will also get in on the act with a stunt from 11pm-2am leading to the overnight Empty Nest from 2am-5am.
Finally, we have a preview of the first week of July, which will feature a three-day sitcom event for the Fourth of July weekend! It's the same sitcom stunt schedule we mentioned above with the same times and shows. This is for Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3. What will air on Monday, July 4? We'll let you know in a few weeks in our July 2011 highlights, because well that is part of the July line-up. So stay with us for that!

BET has some sitcom stunts in the works for us sitcom fans! A week-long Everybody Hates Chris marathon is coming in June! The marathon airs during graduation week from Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17 from 1pm-6pm each afternoon! The sitcom regularly airs weekdays in the 8am hour. And in time for Father's Day, BET will air a a Father's Day stunt with episodes from The Steve Harvey Show on Saturday, June 18 from 12pm-6pm as we get ready for Father's Day the next day! This sitcom regularly airs on sister network Centric every weekday.
Elsewhere, for Memorial Day (May 30), they will have a marathon of The Game from 8am-7:30pm showcasing the second half season three and all 13 episodes from the fourth season! This is a good way to catch-up, if you missed anything this season. On Saturday, June 4, catch the complete fourth season of Girlfriends in a 12-hour block from 8am-8pm with all 24 episodes from that season!

Nick at Nite Adding That '70s Show in June 2011, Buffy Finally Scheduled on TeenNick; The Hub Adds Jem

Nick at Nite has announced it will borrow That '70s Show from its Viacom sibling TeenNick. The former Fox sitcom will start on Memorial Day (Monday, May 30, 2011) on Nick at Nite and will air Sun-Fri at 11:00 p.m. & 11:30 p.m. ET. It will also encore on Mon-Fri nights at 3:00 a.m. & 3:30 a.m. ET. The sitcom will replace an hour of The Nanny in the 11 p.m. hour and will push back the encore of Everybody Hates Chris into the 4am hour. Now just to be aware, Nick at Nite has been "off-the-clock" mode lately starting in the 11:30 p.m. half hour starting approx. 11:32pm and getting longer each half-hour until it catches back up on time at 6:00 a.m. As a result, one full half-hour is lost.
That '70s Show will no longer air on sister network TeenNick, which had been airing the series every night in the 11pm & 2am hours. The sitcom will have its last airing on Sunday, May 29. Instead, TeenNick will FINALLY start airing Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which kept on getting delayed. It was supposed to start on May 9, then they kept delaying it. The Sarah Michelle Gellar drama will air every night at 10pm & 11pm staring Tuesday, May 31. Also of note, That '70s Show will remain airing on sister network MTV, which airs the show weeknights in the 6pm hour. And if that isn't enough, That '70 Show will remain on ABC Family and in local syndication as well. Ashton Kutcher, who is on That '70s Show and Buffy's Sarah Michelle Gellar, both have been in the news, as they join network series this fall (Ashton on Two and a Half Men and Sarah on hew new series Ringer on The CW).
View the FULL Nick at Nite June 2011 schedule with the addition of That '70s Show. As of now, we don't have details on any stunts or marathons for the month, but if there are any we will let you know, so stay with us!

With the school year ending and sunny days just around the corner, The Hub television network, a destination for kids and their families, will bring viewers a new summer programming schedule that will reflect the seasonal schedules of kids and parents. Viewers can expect a summer full of special holiday marathons of favorite Hub series, a wide array of popular family-friendly movies, and a new "Saturday Mashup" scheduling strategy.
Throughout the summer, "Saturday Mashup" will feature original episodes of series on The Hub in a special themed lineup that will highlight the network's game shows, comedies, and action/adventure series in designated, kid-friendly blocks.
A preview of the new "Saturday Mashup" programming schedule will debut Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 28, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. ET. The Hub will tee up the new Saturday schedule by presenting two back-to-back episodes of each of the popular Hasbro Studios produced series My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, Pound Puppies, and Family Game Night, followed by a three-hour marathon (previously announced) of the first six episodes of Jem and the Holograms, an animated series which originally aired in the late 1980s and whose fans are passionate and numerous.
And finally, in addition to the framed Saturday programming events, The Hub will present special programming lineups for each of the summer holidays with an emphasis on family-friendly shows that kids and their parents will want to watch together. Memorial Day will be celebrated with the network's "Hub of the Brave" day-long lineup of programming featuring heroic acts from some of The Hub’s favorite series characters. Father's Day and Independence Day will feature similar lineups highlighting favorite episodes of GI Joe: A Real American Hero and GI Joe Renegades, and Transformers Generation 1 and Transformers Prime.
We will let you know if there is a sitcom stunt planned or not, similar to their Mother's Day "Mrs. C" Happy Days marathon. So stay with us!

Week 35 TV Ratings and Analysis; How the Sitcoms Did

2010-11 Week 35 TV Ratings (first four nights averages, Mon-Thu):

Households: #1. Fox 7.7/12.1 rating/share; #2. ABC 7.4/11.7; #3. CBS 7.1/11.2; #4. NBC 3.4/5.3; #5. The CW 0.9/1.4
Total Viewers: #1. Fox 13.37 million; #2. ABC 11.7 million; #3. CBS 11.44 million; #4. NBC 5.57 million; #5. The CW 1.41 million
Adults 18-49: #1. Fox 4.4/12.0 rating/share; #2. ABC 2.9/7.8; #3. CBS 2.7/7.3; #4. NBC 2.2/5.9; #5. The CW 0.6/1.7

Week 35 (May 16-22) Analysis: Week 35 so far has once again a three-way battle in HH/viewers (ABC, CBS, Fox) but Fox has a point and a half lead in the more important 18-49 race over ABC and CBS. Through the first four nights there is only a .6 difference in HH from first to third place and less than a two million difference in total viewers from first to third. Fox is a clear first in 18-49 over ABC. CBS is third in 18-49 and NBC is still in fourth place despite the new hit The Voice, which is doing well Tuesdays at 10pm. Fox will win the week in 18-49 and perhaps I think ABC will sneak out a win in HH/viewers due to tonight's Billboard Music Awards. Last week, week 34, had CBS win the week in HH/viewers beating out second place ABC, but Fox took the important 18-49 crown again. Fox was third in HH/viewers and NBC was fourth again. ABC and CBS were tied for second in 18-49, while NBC was back in fourth again.

Monday saw ABC get the win easily over CBS finales. ABC started with a new Dancing with the Stars for two-hours doing 21.96 million and a 4.6 18-49 rating for its semi-finals, up from previous week. At 10pm ABC aired the season finale of Castle and did a first place 12.93 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, up some from previous week and what a finale that was! Best season finale by far so far. CBS was next with its comedies and Hawaii Five-0. How I Met Your Mother started it off with the season finale doing 7.15 million and a 3.1 18-49 rating, up a good amount week-to-week. Mad Love followed with its finale doing 5.73 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, up from previous week but it is not returning next season. Two and a Half Men repeat was next doing 6.83 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, up a tad week-to-week. The season finale of Mike & Molly at 9:30pm did 8.64 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, which was up from previous week. Hawaii Five-0 was new at 10pm for its season finale and did 10.41 million and a 2.7 18-49 rating, up from the series low the previous week. Look for CBS to be in repeats (in sweeps? really?) tomorrow from 8-10pm and a special at 10pm. Fox was all-new with House doing 8.96 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, up a good number from previous week. A new Chicago Code followed at 9pm with 5.86 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, up some from previous week but it is canceled. NBC started with the season finale of Chuck doing 4.53 million and 1.5 18-49 rating, up a tad from previous week. NBC for some reason will be bringing it back next season for a final season on Fridays. The Event was next and did 4.07 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, up a bit week-to-week. The final episode ever is tomorrow. Law & Order: Los Angeles did just as bad with 4.36 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating, down some from previous week. The CW was all-new with the season finale of 90210 doing 1.64 million and a 0.8 18-49 rating, up a lick from previous week and the season finale of Gossip Girl followed with 1.36million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, also up some from previous week.

Tuesday had NBC winning the night in 18-49 again but the lead is much smaller now. First, CBS started with the season finale of NCIS and did 18.62 million and a 4.0 18-49 rating which was up from previous week. NCIS: Los Angeles followed with its season finale and did 15.61 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, like the lead-in, but a good 1/2 point in the demo from previous week. At 10pm, The Good Wife had its finale Tuesday episode, as its season finale did 12.58 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, up from previous week. Look for REPEATS this Tuesday for the final Tuesday of the season, very strange CBS is giving up like that. For ABC, Dancing with the Stars LIVE: Freestyle Special at 8pm did 13.8 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, up from previous week's all-new special. At 9, Dancing with the Stars: The Results did 18.11 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, up a tad from previous week, as Ralph Macchio came up short to being in the finals tomorrow night. At 10pm, the season finale of the consistent Body of Proof did a decent 10.33 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, on par with previous week in a tough time slot. Fox had a new Glee doing 8.96 million and a 3.6 18-49 rating, which is off some from previous week. This week its finale will be at 9pm following Idol on a special night. Next Fox aired the season finale of comedy, Raising Hope doing 5.4 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, up some from previous week. New comedy Traffic Light was preempted for a special night of Breaking In, as its final airing did no matter with 3.18 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating. NBC started with a two-hour The Biggest Loser again doing 7.16 million and a 2.9 18-49 rating, which was up from previous week. Then NBC had the young skewing The Voice at 10pm with just one hour again, doing 10.01 million and a 4.5 18-49 rating, still great but off some from previous week. Again...why isn't this two-hours and Loser is, is beyond me? It might suffer a bit this week with a ton of competition. The CW was all-new on Tuesday with the season finale of One Tree Hill doing 1.48 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, up a bit from previous week. Next at 9pm was the finale Hellcats and that did worse with 1.13 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating, but it was on par week-to-week again.

Wednesday it was all Fox with American Idol carrying it again. An expanded two-hour Idol did 23.56 million and a 7.4 18-49 rating, up some from previous week's 90-minute show. Breaking In was preempted, as it had its finale the previous night. CBS started the night off with a repeat of Criminal Minds doing 6.36 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating. Then the season finale at 9pm of Criminal Minds did 12.84 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, on par really week-to-week. Yep a repeat this week on the final night of the season. Very weird. At 10pm, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior was new and did 8.46 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, down a tenth from previous week. This show will have its final airing ever this week. The last scripted new airing remaining for CBS. ABC had its Laugh On comedy block and had a new The Middle open the night with 7.68 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, which was once again up some from previous week. Then at 8:30, a special repeat did 5.85 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, near Better With You numbers. Then ABC aired a new Modern Family at 9pm doing 10.3 million and a 4.1 18-49 rating, the highest rated scripted TV show so far this week. Then at 9:30, Cougar Town was all-new with 5.23 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, below normal as it went up against the last half-hour of Idol this week. This week will be the season finale and it will be one-hour from 9:30-10:30pm in Hawaii! At 10pm, new comedy Happy Endings did 3.7 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, off some from previous week. A second new episode was next doing 3.1 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, down a bit from previous week. Season finale at 10:30pm this week. NBC started with a new Minute to Win It doing 3.49 million and just a 1.1 18-49 rating, up some week-to-week. A repeat followed with just 2.9 million and a 0.9 18-49 rating. NBC uses this on any night. It's on tonight and tomorrow, too. Really? Then NBC aired a new Law & Order: SVU doing a solid 8.98 million and a first place 2.9 18-49 rating, its best ratings in a while. The CW had a repeat of America's Next Top Model start it off at 8pm doing 1.07 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. The season finale at 9pm did only 1.81 million and a 0.9 18-49 rating, down a bit from previous week. Sad for a finale and usually this show gets two-hours for a finale.

Thursday saw Fox win the night again. But first, ABC opened the night with the spring finale of Wipeout doing 5.6 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. Then Grey's Anatomy had its season finale at 9pm doing 9.89 million and a 3.6 18-49 rating, up from previous week's season low. Weird to see a one-hour finale for this show. The season finale of Private Practice at 10 closed the night with 7.45 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, up some from previous week. CBS was all-new with the season finale of The Big Bang Theory at 8pm doing 11.3 million and a 3.6 18-49 rating, up some from previous week. Rules of Engagement was next with its season finale doing 8.83 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, on par with previous week and is now Saturday-bound for the fall. At 9, the two-hour season finale of The Mentalist did 14.11 million and a 2.8 18-49 rating, up a tad from previous week's 10pm airing. Onto #1 Fox, it was all American Idol as an one-hour airing did 21.76 million and a 6.3 18-49 rating, but off some from previous week. Fox then followed with the season finale of Bones at 9pm doing 9.83 million and a 3.2 18-49 rating, on par with previous week in 18-49. NBC comedies were all-new starting at 9pm. The Office had two repeats start it off. At 8pm, the repeat did only 2.81 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating. At 8:30pm, the repeat did 3.03 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, but up some week-to-week. The one-hour season finale of The Office was next and did 7.29million and a 3.9 18-49 rating, up a good amount from previous week. Parks and Recreation was next at 10 and did 4.27 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. A second episode followed, as that was its season finale, doing 3.72 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, also on par with previous week. The CW was next with an encore of the two-hour Smallville series finale doing 1.39 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating, as Vampire Diaries and Nikita had their season finales the previous week.

Now, final numbers for Friday and Saturday are not available as usual, but Friday was lower than normal with a lot of repeats. Flashpoint did terrible at 8pm losing to a repeat of ABC's Shark Tank. Kitchen Nightmares won the night for Fox as Friday Night Lights on NBC was barely visible. Saturday was also lower than normal, with Fox winning in 18-49 with a low 1.2 rating for MLB action.

Tonight ABC is all-new with the season finale of AFV and The Billboard Music Awards, which should win the night. NBC has a two-hour Celebrity Apprentice finale starting at 9 following, what else, Minute to Win It & Dateline starting at 7. CBS has a new 60 Minutes, followed by a second episode at 8pm and a Jesse Stone movie from 9-11pm which will skew ancient. Fox is all-new with season finales of its animated comedies starting at 7:30pm. ABC will win the night. Fox and NBC will likely battle for second, but Fox should prevail .

As for the week (week 35), Fox will win the week in 18-49 and ABC should prevail in HH/viewers. ABC will likely be in second in 18-49, with CBS in third in 18-49 and Fox third in HH/viewers. NBC is certain for fourth across the board. And for the coming week (week 36), has the final three days of the season, as Fox and ABC will be battling only it seems. CBS is in repeats and NBC will even put up a fight on Tuesday. Where has this season gone? Enjoy the final three nights of the 2010-11 season!

Week 35 How the Sitcoms Did

Last Sunday Sitcoms (counts for week 34 -- May 9-15)

  • American Dad! (Fox) - A new episode at 7:30pm did 3.93 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, up some from previous week which was pretty low.
  • The Simpsons (Fox) 2 episodes - A new episode at 8pm did 5.99 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, which is on par with previous week and below normal. A repeat earlier at 7pm did only 3.18 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, but up some week-to-week.
  • Bob's Burgers (Fox) - A new episode did 4.68 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, up some from previous week. I was shocked to see this return next season, especially since Fox has two new animated half-hours coming next season.
  • Family Guy (Fox) - A new episode at 9pm airing did 6.44 million and a 3.2 18-49 rating, but off a bit week-to-week.
  • The Cleveland Show (Fox) - A new episode at 9:30pm did 4.9 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, another below normal performance and down a lick week-to-week.

Monday Sitcoms

  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS) - The season finale did 7.15 million and a 3.1 18-49 rating, a nice up tick from recent airings. Just why did CBS have the final a week earlier than normal? Repeats tomorrow in May sweeps? Makes no sense.
  • Mad Love (CBS) - The season finale, well series since it was canned, did 5.73 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, up some from previous week thanks to the lead-in going up.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS) - Another repeat of this show did 6.83 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating which was up a bit from previous week's lowest rating of the season.
  • Mike & Molly (CBS) - The season finale of this sitcom did 8.64 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, which was up from previous week.

Tuesday Sitcoms

  • Raising Hope (Fox) - The season finale did 5.4 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, up some from previous week again.
  • Breaking In (Fox) - The season finale on a special night did just 3.18 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, which is just on par with Traffic Light, which will have its finale on May 31. Both shows are canned.

Wednesday Sitcoms
  • The Middle (ABC) - A new episode of this sitcom did 7.68 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, up some once again from previous week. This comedy has gone up each week in the past few weeks against heavy reality competition.
  • Better with You (ABC) - season finale was previous week. But it was announced it was canceled, so it is unlikely we will see repeats in summer.
  • Modern Family (ABC) - A new episode did 10.3 million and a 4.1 18-49 rating, which is down a bit in 18-49 but up some in viewers from previous week. Once again the top scripted series of the week!
  • Cougar Town (ABC) - A new episode of this comedy did 5.23 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, down from previous week as it faced Idol's last half-hour. Look for the one-hour Hawaiian season finale this week!
  • Happy Endings (ABC) 2 episodes - A new episode at 10pm did 3.7 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, off a bit from previous week at 10pm. A second episode did 3.1 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating at 10:30pm, also off a bit from previous week with previous week. The season finale this week will be only 10:30pm, as Cougar Town has a one-hour finale..

Thursday Sitcoms

  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS) - The season finale did 11.3 million and a 3.6 18-49 rating, up some week-to-week and better than recent weeks.
  • Rules of Engagement (CBS) - The season finale did 8.83 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, on par from previous week. Surprisingly it will be airing on Saturdays next fall at 8pm on its own. Good luck to it.
  • Community (NBC) - season finale was previous week.
  • The Office (NBC) 3 episodes - Before a new episode, two repeats aired. At 8pm, a repeat only did 2.81 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating. At 8:30pm it did 3.03 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, though up a bit from previous week's encore. A new episode at 9pm did 7.29 million and a 3.9 18-49 rating for a special one-hour episode...nice up tick from previous week. I don't think it will be this high ever again now with no Carrell.
  • Parks and Recreation (NBC) 2 episodes - A new episode at 10pm did 4.27 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, on par with previous week's first airing. A second episode at 10:30pm was the season finale and did 3.72 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, also on par with previous week's second airing. Wonder if it can do a 2 at least at 8:30 next fall?
  • 30 Rock (NBC) - season finale aired two weeks ago.
  • Outsourced (NBC) - canceled.

Friday Sitcoms

  • None.

Saturday Sitcoms

  • None.

Airing tonight (Sunday) are Fox's animated comedies from 7:30-10pm with season finales.

Summing it up. Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Mike & Molly, The Middle were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as Mad Love, Parks & Recreation) or just plain old terrible (such as Breaking In, The Office repeats).

Digital Digest: The Red Green Show - The Midlife Crisis Years

It's another slow news week (yet again), but we're back for another edition of Digital Digest, as we are every Saturday. As always, we have all of your sitcom news and upcoming releases for you, and this week, we have a review of the Canadian-produced comedy series, The Red Green Show - The Midlife Crisis Years. Let's get going!

DIGITAL NEWS

The only news that we have this week is news regarding Mister Ed. Mister Ed - The Complete Fifth Season is coming to DVD very soon. In fact, it'll be out June 21 as a Shout! Select title, at a $34.99 MSRP. There is no word on what (if any) special features will be included, but our guess is that there will not be any, if the past two sets are any indication.

Speaking of Shout! Select, Ironside - Season Five was projected to be released a few days ago, but it hasn't been. In fact, there is no indication that Shout! Factory has any intention of releasing this anytime in the near future. That doesn't mean that the set won't be coming to DVD at all, but it just isn't scheduled... yet. But if anything changes, we'll tell you about it!

UPCOMING WEEK PREVIEW

Tuesday (May 24) has many releases, but only one to note for sitcom fans, that being Melissa & Joey - Season 1, Part 1. The set comes at a $29.97 MSRP from Shout! Factory. We hope to have a review for this set soon, assuming that we receive a review copy.

BLOG DVD REVIEW

Get ready to head back to the Possum Lodge for more mayhem, half-baked ideas, and crazy contraptions. In the popular Canadian series, Red Green (Steve Smith) and his friends worked together on a series about home improvement and the outdoors, in a world where the crazy ideas somehow managed to work out every single time. The popular Canadian comedy series (seen on PBS in the United States), The Red Green Show, is back on DVD for three more seasons (seasons 10-12) of fun in The Red Green Show - The Midlife Crisis Years.

DVD Review - The Red Green Show - The Midlife Crisis Years
by skees53

The Red Green Show - The Midlife Crisis Years (Acorn Media, $79.99) brings fans 54 more episodes (seasons 10-12) of the hit Canadian comedy series to DVD in a nine disc set. It's a little bit like the American series Home Improvement combined with PBS style comedy, except in this series, the crazy ideas somehow manage to work. In this set, the guys are all facing their midlife years the best that they possibly can--by coming up with more crazy ideas to make life more manageable. This set also marks the debut of the twelfth season of the series on DVD in the United States (it is also available separately).

In the tenth season, Red hosts a foster child in the episode "Foster Child," but how good of a father can he be? The lodge offers a proposal for Toronto in "What a Dump," and that is to take their trash! Red and Mike try to declare the lodge a historical site in "Historic Site." Dalton appears on a trivia game show in "Who Wants to Be a Smart Guy." In "The Dandruff Foundation," the guys want to avoid taxes, and try to do so by aligning with a charity. The guys run out of their magic stuff--duct tape--in "No Duct Tape."

Onto the eleventh season, you can "barely deny" Harold's shock when he accidentally rents the lodge to nudists in "Back to Nature." In "Dalton's Hot Gift," Red begins to believe that Mike stole Dalton's birthday gift. The guys sell leftover cans from the Y2K scare in "Y2 Cans." Mike has to hide from an ex-con at a masked picnic in "Masquerade Marathon." In "Harold's Dilemma," Harold plans renovations at the lodge, but finds resistance from Red.

Finally, in the twelfth season, Red develops a unique pizza-delivery method in "The Possum Ponderosa." But that is nothing compared to Harold's new airline in "Possum Air." Harold wants to start a MENSA chapter in "The IQ Test." Red builds an outdoor escalator (why?) in "The Missile Crisis." In "Power Struggle," the guys decide to stick it to the power company and generate their own power. Harold enters a beauty pageant in "Mr. Possum Lake." The season ends with "Stupid Cupid," where Harold submits a tape to a video dating service.

The episode runtimes run in the 22:14-22:36 range (with a few double length episodes), with runtimes remaining fairly consistent for each individual season. Exact runtimes are as follows:

The set is packaged in three Viva-packs that are inside of a cardboard outer box. The cover art this time features Red inside of one of the many kludges that he invented, with a red and yellow background. Inside, each individual season set has the same artwork, and in fact, each disc contains the same artwork. Inside each of the season sets, there is a list of episodes, along with descriptions for the episodes.

The menus on this set are just like the previous set, and very basic (but functional). The main menu of each disc has a photo of Red Green on it with the theme song playing in the background, with options of Play All, Episode Selection (Disc 1 of each season), and an option for the bonus feature in the particular season (Disc 1 of each season). On Discs 2 and 3 of each season, all of the episodes are simply listed on the main menu. Chapters are placed in each episode at all of the appropriate places.

The video and audio quality of the set is on par with the previous sets, meaning that it looks OK, but not perfect. Again, as I mentioned in the review of the previous set, the series was supposed to be a parody of a really bad outdoor/home improvement series, so some of it is probably intentional (and for the best). The audio on each of the episodes is presented in stereo, and all of the episodes are closed-captioned.

The set doesn't contain a whole lot of special features, but there are a few. As was the case with the previous seasons, both seasons 10 and 11 contain production notes and character profiles written by the series star and creator, Steve Smith. These are fairly detailed, and interesting to read. However, when I first got this set, I notice that season 12 contained a different special feature: an introduction by Steve Smith. Unfortunately, this was very disappointing, as it is only 49 seconds long. He mostly just talks about Patrick McKenna's character leaving in season 10 and coming back in season 12. It is unfortunate, because I feel like there is so much more that they could have done with this segment.

Before I conclude this review, there is one problem that I noticed with this set, and I don't know if it is just my copy or if it is a widespread problem, but for the season eleven episodes, Discs 1 and Discs 2 are mislabeled. On my set, I found all of the contents of Disc 1 on Disc 2, and the contents of Disc 2 on Disc 1. Hopefully, this isn't a widespread problem, and if it is, hopefully Acorn will come up with some fix (maybe even a "kludge") for it. In any event, all of the episodes are still included, even with the mislabeled disc.

This series is one of those really humorous series that you have to actually watch to understand it. It is difficult to describe what the series is to anybody, but if you watch it, you'll understand what it is all about--a home improvement and outdoors show parody (and that is oversimplifying it). It is a unique style of intellectual comedy that just about anybody can get into if they watch the series enough. I'd suggest checking out the series on a PBS affiliate (many of them air it) first, and if you like it, then checking out these DVDs. Of course, if you already know and love the series, then you can head straight for this set. It's great comedy that must be seen to be fully appreciated.

(4/5 stars)

More Upfronts: MyNetworkTV, TNT/TBS; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of May 23, 2011)

The broadcast upfronts are all done, but we are not forgetting about MyNetworkTV. Their fall schedule will have back-to-back repeats of Law & Order: SVU join the Monday line-up replacing Law & Order: Criminal Intent. On Tuesdays, back-to-back repeats of Cold Case will join the line-up replacing an hour each of game shows Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? and Don't Forget the Lyrics! That will be all the changes, as Wednesday-Friday will remain the same with two episodes each of Burn Notice, Without a Trace and Monk. That's all folks, it's crime all the time on MyNetwork TV.

TNT and TBS had their upfront presentation today in New York and they are making bold moves to bolster their foundations in original programming. The networks are developing extensive new lineups of scripted and unscripted series and making a new push into half-hour comedy in partnership with some of the top talents in the industry, from award-winning actors to acclaimed producers, writers and best-selling authors.
But before we get to that, this year marks the beginning of production of the final season of the blockbuster hit The Closer, starring Emmy(R) winner Kyra Sedgwick. However, TNT confirmed that it has ordered a 10-episode season of Major Crimes, a spin-off series set in the Los Angeles Police Department that promises to become television's next great crime drama. The seventh and final season of The Closer will include 15 episodes in 2011 and six in summer 2012, leading into the launch of Major Crimes, starring Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica). McDonnell has been featured on The Closer as Capt. Raydor, who was often on a collision course with Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, played by Sedgwick.
For TBS, Conan O'Brien is taking his late-night talk show Conan on the road for the first time. O'Brien will set up shop at the Beacon Theater in New York Oct. 31-Nov. 3 to celebrate the first anniversary of his arrival at TBS. The event will mark O'Brien's first stint in New York since he hosted Late Night with Conan O'Brien. In 2012, Conan will hit the road again for a stop in Chicago. TBS has also given the greenlight to The Wedding Band (working title), an hour-long comedy from FremantleMedia and Mike Tollin Productions. TBS has ordered 10 episodes of the series starring Brian Austin Green (Beverly Hills, 90210; Desperate Housewives), Harold Perrineau (LOST), Peter Cambor (Notes from the Underbelly), Derek Miller (Secret Girlfriend) and Melora Hardin (The Office). The show, which follows the misadventures of four friends who spend their spare time performing in a band, is slated to premiere in summer 2012.
In 2011-12, TNT is bringing back seven hit series, including basic cable's #1 show, Rizzoli & Isles; The Closer; and recent Peabody Award winner Men of a Certain Age. Also returning are Leverage, HawthoRNe, Memphis Beat and Southland. TNT will launch two new series this summer: Falling Skies, the eagerly anticipated series from DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg, starring Noah Wyle; and Franklin & Bash, a light-hearted lawyer drama from Sony Pictures Television. For 2012, TNT has ordered Perception from ABC Studios, a series starring Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Award(R) winner Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) that centers on a neuroscientist who works to solve complex criminal cases.
Moving on to pilots, both TNT and TBS have ordered many pilots. They have not been ordered to series yet, but there are plenty of options. Among TNT's pilots is drama The Untitled Shaun Cassidy/Kimberly Williams-Paisley Project, about a hot Southern mess of a family that takes in their widowed daughter-in-law and her gifted young son, these vibrant characters all in their own way come to learn that it's not the family you're born into that counts but the family you make. Among TBS's pilots is s single-camera comedy that spoofs cop and detective shows. TBS also have in development a game show revival of Pyramid with host Andy Richter and TNT is developing the TNT Tuesday Night Mystery, with original movies.
View more on the TNT and TBS upfront, including a list of all of the pilots in development. But be aware the pilot list are just pilots and not all of those will make it to series. Stay with us for series pick-ups.

New series for the 2011-12 season are Apartment 23, Charlie’s Angels, Good Christian Belles, Last Man Standing, Man Up, Missing, Once Upon a Time, Pan Am, Revenge, The River, Scandal, Suburgatory and Work It. Cougar Town and Apartment 23 will air Tuesdays starting at 9:00 p.m. once Dancing with the Stars ends. The Bachelor and Secret Millionaire will return later in the season.

The upfront presentation for ABC is at 4pm ET. Stay tuned later for a recap.

Moving on to some other news, TV Land will bring back Leave it to Beaver from a long hiatus starting May 28. The classic sitcom will air weekend afternoons from 1-3pm, replacing two hours of The Andy Griffith Show, which will still remain from 3pm-5pm. The Cleaver family will start from episode one, so you can enjoy it from the beginning if you have missed it not airing on TV Land.
One other note for TV Land, starting Monday, June 6, The Nanny will now air every weekday from 11pm-1am, replacing two hours of the late night marathon madness, which will continue still from 1am-5am.

The night will feature the critically acclaimed Raising Hope, new comedies I Hate My Teenage Daughter (wt) and New Girl (wt), as well as one of the additional comedies in development, including Family Album (working title) and Little in Common (working title). We will let you know which one of the three will be picked-up.
The following drama is in development and slated for midseason:
In addition, Kiefer Sutherland, star of the landmark Emmy Award-winning series 24, returns to Fox in Touch, scheduled to go into pilot production this June.
Fox will also air a 25th Anniversary special on Sunday, April 1, 2012 and they also have a new version of The Flintstones in production for 2013 from the minds of the people who bring you Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show.

Discuss Fox's 2011-12 line-up. You'll find the official press release there, too...with more detailed information.

Late on Friday the networks started to hand out series pick-ups to pilots, while canceling some current series. ABC has picked-up eight new dramas and five new comedies, as of now. There could be another show or two still by the time they announce the line-up tomorrow. The comedies that are picked-up are multi-camera comedies Last Man Standing starring Tim Allen and Work It, and single camera comedies Apartment 23, Suburgatory and Man Up which has Teri Polo among the stars. Another multi-camera comedy titled Smothered is still in contention for a pick-up, so ABC would have a total of six new comedies (three of each kind). Among the dramas they picked-up are, Missing starring Ashley Judd, Charlie's Angels with Minka Kelly, Good Christian Belles starring Leslie Bibb, Once Upon a Time from the Lost producers, Pan Am with Christina Ricci, Revenge starring Emily Van Camp, The River from the creators of Paranormal Activity, and Scandal from Shonda Rhimes. Among the current series picked-up (that had not been until now) are comedy Happy Endings, reality series Shark Tank & Secret Millionaire, and drama Body of Proof. All of those shows showed good ratings in the spring. Unfortunately, comedies Mr. Sunshine & Better With You, dramas Detroit 1-8-7, No Ordinary Family, Off the Map, V and the veteran Brothers & Sisters were not renewed for another season and were canceled.
Moving on to CBS, their orders and cancelations are less complete, but we still have some news. They have ordered the multi-camera comedy Two Broke Girls and drama Person of Interest starring Michael Emerson. They still have some official ordering to do on more comedies and dramas. However, their Sarah Michelle Gellar pilot Ringer will not move forward on CBS...but The CW has picked it up! This is one of the biggest surprises of upfront so far, as this show could do wonders for The CW, as Sarah was on The WB on Buffy. Stay tuned. CBS has officially canceled comedies Mad Love, $#*! My Dad Says and drama The Defenders. Jury is still out on Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. We'll know more on that very soon.

And as we all noticed yesterday, NBC has officially canceled dramas The Event, Law & Order: LA, & Chase, and comedies Outsourced, The Paul Reiser Show & Perfect Couples and reality series America's Next Great Restaurant & School Pride, but Minute To Win It is still in contention for next season. Who Do You Think You Are was renewed sometime back, so that will return likely to Fridays when Chuck concludes.

8:00PM Celebrity Apprentice
10:00PM The Firm (NEW!)

Mondays (January)
8:00PM The Voice
10:00PM Smash (NEW!)

Not Yet Scheduled Mid-Season:

Returning: 30 Rock
New: Bent (single-camera comedy), Best Friends Forever (single-camera comedy), Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea (multi-camera comedy), Awake (Drama), Betty White's Off Their Rockers (reality), Brian Williams News Magazine (news), and Fashion Star (reality).

Notes: NBC is adding 12 new scripted series to its line-up, with six new series in the fall. They will also expand The Sing-Off to a regular series rather than just December. It will be tested against big competition on ABC with Dancing with the Stars and the CBS comedies. It'll be interesting to see even if it can come close to its December airing. My guess is no. The reality series will lead into new drama The Playboy Club, which will just air in the timeslot from Sept-Dec (or January), as new drama Smash will launch in the time period likely in January or after the Super Bowl. NBC's big hit The Voice will launch in January and move to a new night of Mondays, where it will have a 6 week head start on Dancing with the Stars but will battle with ABC's The Bachelor for the younger (and female) viewers. Tuesdays will be the same and I think that is a mistake, as The Biggest Loser has declined. Parenthood will remain in its 10pm timeslot. Wednesdays starts off with female centric single-camera comedies starring Christina Applegate and Hank Azaria leading into the older skewing Harry's Law, which returns for a second season. Law & Order: SVU remains at 10pm. The comedies might not e the right move in the timeslot as ABC has comedies and Fox will likely plug The X-Factor here. NBC Thursday for some reason will still start off with the struggling Community leading into a new time for Parks & Recreation, as 30 Rock heads to mid-season for an uninterrupted run. The Office remains at 9pm leading into the multi-camera comedy Whitney. Strange they went with a multi-cam on an all single-camera night. New drama Prime Suspect closes the night out. Fridays will have Chuck move to a new night for its fifth & final season, leading into new drama Grimm, which could have a "grimm" future leading out of Chuck's low ratings. Dateline closes it out at 10pm, with only an hour airing. Football remains on Sundays, as of now, lockout pending.
As for mid-season, NBC has only scheduled two nights so far: Sundays and Mondays. Sundays will have Celebrity Apprentice move to 8-10pm and lead into the new drama The Firm. And on Mondays they will move The Voice to its new night leading into new drama Smash starring Debra Messing, as it looks to capture a Glee type audience.
My final thoughts at Fall: I don't think it is a great schedule. Mondays are the only night where they could improve, as Thursdays will still remain low-rated with Community leading off. They certainly could have done better with this schedule. The Wednesday comedy hour could have easily been on Thursdays instead. NBC will be banking on the return of The Voice in January because if there is no NFL, they will be in big trouble in the fall. As for mid-season, I wonder which of the three comedies will never end up airing or being burned-off like they usually do? They have four scripted series unscheduled for mid-season along with two reality series and a new news magazine.

Discuss NBC's 2011-12 line-up and also you can view complete program information.

2010-11 Week 34 TV Ratings (first four nights averages, Mon-Thu):

Households: #1. Fox 7.2/11.3 rating/share; #2. ABC 7.1/11.3; #3. CBS 7.0/11.2; #4. NBC 3.3/5.2; #5. The CW 1.1/1.7
Total Viewers: #1. Fox 12.34 million; #2. CBS 11.25 million; #3. ABC 11.18 million; #4. NBC 5.33 million; #5. The CW 1.64 million
Adults 18-49: #1. Fox 4.0/11.1 rating/share; #2. ABC 2.8/7.7; #3. CBS 2.6/7.3; #4. NBC 2.0/5.5; #5. The CW 0.8/2.1

Week 34 (May 9-15) Analysis: Week 34 so far has once again a three-way battle in HH/viewers (ABC, CBS, Fox) but Fox has a full point lead in the more important 18-49 race over ABC and CBS. Through the first four nights there is only a .2 difference in HH from first to third place and just a little over a million difference in total viewers from first to third. Fox is a clear first in 18-49 with a over full point lead over ABC. CBS is third in 18-49 and NBC is still in fourth place despite the new hit The Voice. Fox will win the week in 18-49 and perhaps I think CBS will sneak out a win in HH/viewers due to tonight's Survivor finale that will have them above average. Last week, week 33, had CBS win the week in HH/viewers edging out ABC, but Fox took the important 18-49 crown again. Fox was third in HH/viewers and NBC was fourth again. ABC was second in 18-49, followed by CBS in third and NBC back in fourth after being third in week 32.

Monday saw ABC get the win again by a large margin. ABC started with a new Dancing with the Stars for two-hours doing 20.74 million and a 4.2 18-49 rating, down some from previous week. At 10pm ABC aired a new of Castle and did a first place 12.6 million and a 3.1 18-49 rating, up some from previous week despite the lead-in down some and again the best of any drama this week in the hour. CBS was next with its comedies and Hawaii Five-0. How I Met Your Mother started it off with a new episode doing 6.41 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, off some week-to-week. Mad Love followed with a new episode doing 5.11 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, down from previous week and is not returning next season. Two and a Half Men repeat was next doing 6.45 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating, lowest repeat performance so far. A new episode of Mike & Molly at 9:30pm did 7.63 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, which was slightly down from previous week. Hawaii Five-0 was new at 10pm and did 9.44 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, for a series low. Fox was all-new with the declining House doing 7.94 million and a 3.0 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. A new Chicago Code followed at 9pm with 5.67 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, up some from previous week but it was canceled by Fox later in the week. NBC started with a new episode of Chuck doing 4.1 million and 1.4 18-49 rating, on par with previous week and NBC for some reason will be bringing it back next season for a final season on Fridays. No one can figure out NBC and they wonder why they are in fourth place. The Event was next and did 3.85 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating, down week-to-week but it doesn't matter since it was officially canned. Law & Order: Los Angeles did just as bad with 5.06 million and a 1.2 18-49 rating, down some from previous week and this was also officially canned. The CW was all-new with 90210 doing 1.43 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, down a lick from previous week and Gossip Girl followed with 1.2 million and a 0.6 18-49 rating, also down some from previous week. Both series were actually renewed but they need to liven this night up.

Tuesday had NBC winning the night in 18-49 again with CBS and ABC battling for total viewers. CBS started with a new episode of NCIS and did 17.62 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating which was down some from previous week. NCIS: Los Angeles followed with a a new episode and did 14.74 million and a below normal 2.8 18-49 rating, off a tenth. At 10pm, The Good Wife was new and did 11.73 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, back to third place after previous week's climb. For ABC, Dancing with the Stars: Greatest Results Show Performances special at 8pm did 11.28 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, up some from a recap special the previous week. This week's special will showcase the show's freestyles over the years with new performances. At 9, Dancing with the Stars: The Results did 17.54 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, up from previous week. At 10pm, a new Body of Proof did a decent 10.11 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, up a tenth from previous week's lowest showing in this timeslot. Fox had a new Glee doing 9.29 million and a 3.7 18-49 rating, which is on par with previous week in 18-49. Next Fox aired a new episode of comedy, Raising Hope doing 5.05 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, up some from previous week. New comedy Traffic Light, which is now canceled, did 3.05 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, actually up week-to-week. NBC was back to a two-hour The Biggest Loser again doing 6.96 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, which was off some from previous week's one-hour show. Perhaps the one-hour format is more watchable? Then NBC had the young skewing The Voice at 10pm with just one hour this time, doing 10.45 million and a 4.7 18-49 rating, still great but down a full point from previous week's two-hour show? Why isn't this two-hours and Loser is, is beyond me? The CW was all-new on Tuesday with a new One Tree Hill doing 1.3 million and a 0.6 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. Next at 9pm was a new Hellcats and that did worse with 1.18 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating, but it was on par week-to-week.

Wednesday it was all Fox with American Idol carrying it again. A 90-minute Idol did 23.05 million and a 7.1 18-49 rating, sharply up from previous week's Wednesday season low. The 90-minute telecast was followed by new comedy Breaking In that did 6.95 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, down some from previous week, but it has been canceled. There is a chance they could revive it, but seems like a long shot. Too bad, because this had potential. CBS started the night off with Survivor: Redemption Island doing 10.77 million and a 3.1 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. Veteran drama Criminal Minds was new doing 13.29 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, up a tenth week-to-week. At 10pm, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior was also new and did 9.3 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, down a tenth from previous week. Don't think this one will be back. ABC had its Laugh On comedy block and had a new The Middle open the night with 7.25 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, which was up some from previous week. Then at 8:30, Better With You had its season finale do 5.95 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, up a good number from previous week. They canceled it on Friday, which is a shame because it would have worked on Fridays. Then ABC aired a new Modern Family at 9pm doing 10.15 million and a 4.3 18-49 rating, up from previous week and the best of scripted TV show so far this week. Then at 9:30, Cougar Town was all-new with 6.02 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, up a tenth from previous week again. A 10pm move coming in fall? At 10pm, new comedy Happy Endings did 4.18 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. I think it will air next season possibly at 10:30 following Cougar Town, as it has been renewed for a season two! A second new episode was next doing 3.46 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. NBC started with a new Minute to Win It doing 3.06 million and just a 0.9 18-49 rating, down a tenth week-to-week. Is this show now not coming back? Not listed above as a returnee. A repeat followed with just 3.58 million and a 1.1 18-49 rating. Then NBC aired a new Law & Order: SVU doing a solid 8.1 million and a first place 2.4 18-49 rating, but off some from previous week. The CW had a repeat of America's Next Top Model start it off at 8pm doing 1.2 million and a 0.5 18-49 rating, up some from previous week. New episodes are at 9pm and it did 2.03 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating, up a bit from previous week.

Thursday saw Fox win the night again. But first, ABC opened the night with a spring episode of Wipeout doing 5.41 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, up from previous week's season low. Then Grey's Anatomy was all-new at 9pm doing 9.63 million and a 3.2 18-49 rating, for a season low, but should perk up this week for its season finale. A new Private Practice at 10 closed the night with 7.27 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. CBS was all-new with The Big Bang Theory at 8pm doing 10.78 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, up a bit from previous week's season low. Rules of Engagement was next with a new episode doing 8.16 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, up a decent amount from previous week. At 9, season finale of CSI did 11.77 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, up from its series low the previous week, but this is its lowest finale rating ever. And at 10pm The Mentalist was new too and jumped to 14.07 million and a 2.7 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. Two-hour finale this week. Onto #1 Fox, it was all American Idol as an one-hour airing did 22.45 million and a 6.5 18-49 rating, up some from previous week. Fox then followed with a new Bones at 9pm doing 10.48 million and a 3.2 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. NBC comedies were all-new and again low. Community started it off with its finale doing 3.32 and a 1.5 18-49 rating, and NBC wants this leading off the night again next fall? Then a repeat of The Office did only 2.66 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, but up some week-to-week. A new The Office was next and did 6.45 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, down some from previous week. Parks and Recreation was next and did 4.55 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, down a bit from previous week. A second episode followed at 10 doing 3.54 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, look for this show to move back to 8:30pm in the fall. And the canceled Outsourced was at 10:30pm with 2.99 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. The CW was next with all-new episodes of Vampire Diaries doing 2.86 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, up a tenth from previous week. Then a new Nikita did 1.94 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, down a tenth from previous week.

Now, final numbers for Friday and Saturday are not available as usual, but Friday had CBS win the night with its dramas in total viewers and 18-49. Flashpoint was the weak point at 8pm. ABC's Shark Tank finale climbed and had its second best Friday showing ever. Kitchen Nightmares did well for Fox and Friday Night Lights on NBC was barely visible. Saturday had ABC win the night with a movie.

Tonight ABC is all-new with AFV, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, & Desperate Housewives, the latter is the two-hour season finale. NBC has the two-hour Celebrity Apprentice starting at 9 following Minute to Win It & Dateline starting at 7. CBS has a new 60 Minutes, followed by the two-hour Survivor finale starting at 8 leading into the live reunion show at 10pm. Fox is all-new with its animated comedies starting at 7:30pm. It should be a tight race among all four networks in 18-49. Anyone can win, but CBS has the edge.

As for the week (week 34), Fox will win the week in 18-49 and CBS should prevail in HH/viewers. ABC will likely be in second across the board, with CBS in third in 18-49 and Fox third in HH/viewers. NBC is certain for fourth across the board. And for the coming week (week 35), has the last full week of the season...with many finales. After tonight, just 10 days left until the season ends Wednesday, May 25. A fast year!

Week 34 How the Sitcoms Did

Last Sunday Sitcoms (counts for week 33 -- May 2-8)

  • American Dad! (Fox) - A new episode at 7:30pm did 3.29 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating, the latter is acceptable I guess.
  • The Simpsons (Fox) 2 episodes - A new episode at 8pm did 5.52 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, which is off some from previous week. A repeat earlier at 7pm did only 2.3 million and a 1.0 18-49 rating.
  • Bob's Burgers (Fox) - The renewed series did 4.26 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, as Fox can do better in this half-hour than this.
  • Family Guy (Fox) - A new episode at 9pm airing did 6.52 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, solid spring numbers in 18-49 for this night.
  • The Cleveland Show (Fox) - A new episode at 9:30pm did 4.7 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, this was a below normal performance.

Monday Sitcoms

  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS) - A new showing did 6.41 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, which off some from previous week. This is getting concerning now even with DST.
  • Mad Love (CBS) - A new episode did 5.11 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, which is down from previous week. Not good news.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS) - Another repeat of this show did 6.45 million and a 1.8 18-49 rating which is its lowest rating of the season. Too bad because this is May sweep.
  • Mike & Molly (CBS) - A new episode of this sitcom did 7.63 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, which was off some from previous week. The whole night is hurt by that repeat of Men in the prime spot of 9pm.

Tuesday Sitcoms

  • Raising Hope (Fox) - A new episode did 5.05 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, up some from previous week, as its lead-in went up some, too.
  • Traffic Light (Fox) - A new episode only did 3.05 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, but did go up some from previous week. It doesn't matter since it has been canned.

Wednesday Sitcoms
  • The Middle (ABC) - A new episode of this sitcom did 7.25 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, up some from previous week. Not bad at all against Idol/Survivor and the lower 8pm HUT level during DST.
  • Better with You (ABC) - The season finale did 5.95 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, up a nice number from previous week. The series was canceled by ABC two days ago though, which I think is a mistake. This could do decently on Fridays for them if they can find a good pairing for it.
  • Modern Family (ABC) - A new episode did 10.15 million and a 4.3 18-49 rating, which is up from previous week and once again the best for any scripted series for the week. The only scripted series (drama or comedy) over a 4.0 rating.
  • Cougar Town (ABC) - A new episode of this comedy did 6.02 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, up a tenth week-to-week again. I'm expecting this show to move to 10pm next fall.
  • Happy Endings (ABC) 2 episodes - A new episode at 10pm did 4.18 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, on par with previous week at 10pm. A second episode did 3.46 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating at 10:30pm, also on par with previous week. The series has been renewed for a second season, so no more worrying! I knew it would get picked-up.
  • Breaking In (Fox) - The new comedy aired following American Idol again and didn't hold too much again, doing 6.95 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating, for a series low. This comedy was canceled, which I think was a mistake. Another example of a comedy dying on its own on an island. This would have done better with other comedies.

Thursday Sitcoms

  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS) - A new episode of this comedy was below normal again with 10.78 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, but up some week-to-week.
  • Rules of Engagement (CBS) - A new episode did 8.16 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, up week-to-week. I think this was unofficially renewed, but I don't think it will get a fall birth.
  • Community (NBC) - The season finale did 3.32 million and 1.5 18-49 rating, on par with previous week. I don't think this should be leading off next season, but it is AGAIN.
  • The Office (NBC) 2 episodes - Before a new episode, a repeat aired at 8:30pm doing only 2.66 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, though up a bit from previous week. A new episode at 9pm did 6.45 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, down some from previous week. Finale this week should be up some but next season could be a different story with no Carrell for the full year.
  • Parks and Recreation (NBC) 2 episodes - A new episode at 9:30pm did 4.55 million and a 2.4 18-49 rating, down some from previous week. A second episode at 10pm did 3.54 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, which is similar to 30 Rock.
  • 30 Rock (NBC) - season finale aired the previous week.
  • Outsourced (NBC) - The season finale did 2.99 million and a 1.5 18-49 rating, which was on par with previous week. Doesn't matter for this one either because it has been canceled.

Friday Sitcoms

  • None.

Saturday Sitcoms

  • None.

Airing tonight (Sunday) are Fox's animated comedies from 7:30-10pm with all-new episodes.

Summing it up. Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Mike & Molly, The Middle were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as Better With You, Parks & Recreation 9:30) or just plain old terrible (such as Traffic Light, The Office 830p).
