Antenna TV starts their Fall 2020 lineup on Monday, October 5 with its newest addition, Who's the Boss? airing weeknights from 5-6pm. It will replace Gimme a Break! on the weekday lineup, but that series will remain airing on weekend afternoons from 2-3pm. Growing Pains returns to the weeknight lineup airing 6-7pm, replacing Barney Miller, which will now air just Sunday nights from 3-4am. Back to Who's the Boss?, it will also air Sunday nights in primetime from 8-9pm leading into Growing Pains again from 9-10pm. Among the other schedule changes are the returns of Head of the Class (Sat 10-11am/Sun 11am-12pm) and My Two Dads (Sunday nights 4-5am), along with a second hour of Soap on Sunday mornings now from 6-8am (this means Three's a Crowd and The Ropers are off the lineup). Wings moves back to weeknights after Coach at 1am every weeknight. View the other schedule changes here.

Stunts in October are two 70th anniversary marathons and a Halloween marathon! Burns and Allen 70th Anniversary Marathon airs on Saturday, October 10 from 10AM until Sunday, October 11 at 9PM with 70 episodes of the series. The Jack Benny 70th Anniversary Marathon airs two weeks later on Saturday, October 24 from 10AM until Sunday, October 25 at 9PM, with 70 episodes of The Jack Benny Program. And the final stunt in October is the "Witch-O-Ween Bewitched Halloween Marathon" on Saturday, October 31 from 10AM to 5AM, with 40 episodes of Bewitched. Episode details for all three stunts are still to come.

November and December holiday season stunts will be announced at a later date. We do want to tease you of some returns in 2021. Both One Day at a Time (the original '70s series, of course) and The Jeffersons return to Antenna TV right at the start of 2021 on January 1. Both series premiered together on Antenna TV in spring 2015 and aired until the end of 2017. The Jeffersons then moved to MeTV in 2018 (and for now airs on sister network Decades), but now is now returning to Antenna TV! And finally, a brand new acquisition for Antenna TV sometime in 2021 will be Caroline in the City - the '90s Lea Thompson sitcom that originally aired on NBC. Much more details are to come, so stay tuned. But for now, Antenna TV's Fall 2020 schedule with Who's the Boss? starts Oct. 5.

  • Roku finally reached a deal with NBC Universal to put Peacock onto the streaming device, but the bad news is that if you thought carriage disputes with cable companies and cable networks was a thing that streaming media devices were immune from, then you were way wrong as these negotiations almost lead to other NBC Universal apps being removed from Roku. (Variety
  • The Canadians are about to invade our TV screens... if producers can figure out how to emulate the success that Schitt's Creek had in the United States, at least. (Deadline)
  • If you want to live like Will did on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, your opportunity to rent the home through Airbnb is here, though good luck getting that opportunity. (Deadline)
  • Because every streaming service needs the word Max or Plus on it, CBS All Access will be rebranding as Paramount+. (SitcomsOnline)

HOME MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Office has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent months, particularly on streaming media, so it only makes sense that Universal has decided that they now want to release the entire series on Blu-ray, and that happens with the November 10 release of The Office - The Complete Series (Blu-ray)

Fri-Yay: Reaction to The Good Place Ending; Antenna TV Brings Back Webster, What's Happening!! and What's Happening Now!!

It's time for another edition of Fri-Yay! That means we will take a look back on some sitcom happenings in recent days or weeks or other fun sitcomy stuff. It's a sitcom lover's paradise! Happy Fri-Yay!

The Good Place

by Vincent

This past week, it was announced that NBC's The Good Place will be ending after its upcoming fourth season. I had two district reactions to this news. On one hand, I'm incredibly sad that we are only getting one more season of what has been the best comedy on TV for the past few years, and one of the most creative and imaginative sitcoms of the decade. I'm a bit of a traditionalist with sitcoms - if it were up to me, every good sitcom would air 22 episodes a year and run for 6 or more seasons. I just like the comfort that sitcoms offer, even if the quality of them admittedly gets spotty as they grow long in the tooth. So the selfish part of me wanted The Good Place to stick around for years and years.

And yet, I can't help but feel that this is the right move to preserve the show's legacy. The Good Place is such a unique show, but it can only reinvent the wheel so many times. While I feel the show's quality has remained consistently high in its three seasons that have aired so far, I could also sense some sense of "well, what now?" for the first time ever in the third season. Granted, the show ended on a high note, but I'd imagine it very well could get tiring re-inventing the wheel over and over again. So I do consider it a creative win that the show is going out on top and on its own terms, and the fact that NBC is allowing a solid-rated veteran comedy to do so in a time where it desperately needs comedy hits shows how much network TV has changed recently. 10 years ago, NBC would've milked the show for all they could, but now, there's more respect paid towards shows and their creators - and if you're a fan of good TV, it's a good thing to see.

Webster and What's Happening!!

Antenna TV is making some changes to the weekend afternoon schedule beginning next weekend (Saturday, June 22, 2019) and one minor change on weekdays beginning June 24. As a result of the changes, three shows are returning from hiatus. Webster, What's Happening!! and What's Happening Now!! all return back to the lineup. Webster will air weekends at 1:00pm & 1:30pm, replacing The Hogan Family, which is still on the schedule Sunday late nights at 3:00am & 3:30am. What's Happening!! is replacing Head of the Class at 2:00pm, while spin-off What's Happening Now!! will air at 2:30pm for Head of the Class. Not to worry Head of The Class fans, the sitcom will air an hour later replacing Family Ties at 3:00pm & 3:30pm, but Family Ties will still remain weeknights at 2:30am. What's Happening!! will also return to the weekday line-up, airing weekdays at 3:30pm, replacing Soap. Not to worry Soap fans, Soap will also still remain on the schedule in its Saturday at 9pm & 9:30pm slots.

Gimme a Break

Antenna TV, Tribune Broadcasting's multicast network, announced the addition of two classic sitcoms to the network's lineup. Coach and Gimme a Break! will join Antenna TV beginning January 2, 2018. Gimme a Break!, starring Nell Carter as Nell Harper, the housekeeper for a widowed police chief and his three daughters, will air weekdays at 4pm ET and Sundays at 7:30am and 3:30pm ET. Antenna TV, which airs in 131 TV markets across the U.S. reaching 86% of TV households, continues to aggressively invest in programming acquisitions. Earlier this year, Antenna TV added Welcome Back, Kotter, with Alice, Benson, Soap, Growing Pains, Silver Spoons, Head of the Class, Murphy Brown and The Hogan Family being added to its 2018 lineup. All join the lineup beginning Monday, January 2. In addition, The Jack Benny Program and McHale's Navy are returning to the schedule. Let's Get Physical

Put on those Rose-colored glasses and prepare to laugh through the winter blues with two scripted comedies on Pop that prove (dysfunctional) families rule. Starting Jan. 24, 2018, Wednesday nights on Pop will feature back-to-back comedies, including the critically acclaimed fan favorite Schitt's Creek at 8:00 and 11:00 PM, ET/PT, followed by the original series premiere of Let's Get Physical at 8:30 and 11:30 PM, ET/PT. Pop's Wednesday night comedies boast Emmy(R) Award-winning talent and all-star casts, including Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Daniel Levy and Annie Murphy returning as the Rose family in season four of Schitt's Creek, and Jane Seymour (Wedding Crashers), Matt Jones (Breaking Bad), Chris Diamantopoulos (Episodes) and AnnaLynne McCord (90210) in the new Let's Get Physical.

Schitt's Creek

As season four of Schitt's Creek begins, it seems the Roses have somewhat adjusted to the simple life in Schitt's Creek, the town that was once a thorn in their side. The family continues to lay down roots in pursuit of love, business and higher education. But of course, what would life for the Roses be without a little self-inflicted crazy? Series co-creators Eugene and Daniel Levy continue as executive producers. Let's Get Physical is a modern-day comedy capturing the zeitgeist of 1980s aerobics. The series revolves around middle-aged slacker Joe Force (Matt Jones), who makes a reluctant comeback in the fitness industry after his dad, the "Godfather of Aerobics," unexpectedly passes away and wills Joe the broke-down family gym with eccentric provisions attached to get his actual fortune and estate. Janet Force (Jane Seymour) is Joe's mom, who takes the reins of the family business in order to maintain their legacy and uses information and manipulation to guarantee that things go her way. Upon coming home, Joe faces his rival, Barry Cross (Chris Diamantopoulos), and his teenage love, Claudia (AnnaLynne McCord), who is now Barry's wife.
