Disney Channel's Hamster & Gretel Rounds Out Cast; The Muppets Mayhem Adds More to Cast

Disney Channel's upcoming animated superhero comedy, Hamster & Gretel, from Disney Branded Television, will introduce Meli Povenmire in the titular role of Gretel. The series will also star Michael Cimino (Love, Victor) as Gretel's older brother, Kevin; Beck Bennett (SNL) as Gretel's pet hamster, Hamster; Joey King (Kissing Booth) as her tech-savvy cousin, Fred; Matt Jones (Bob Hearts Abishola) as the siblings' easygoing father, Dave; and Carolina Ravassa (Maya and the Three) as their charismatic mother, Carolina. Premiering this summer on Disney Channel, a sneak peek of Hamster & Gretel was released last week. Hamster & Gretel introduces Kevin and his younger sister Gretel, who are about to be bestowed superpowers by space aliens. But something goes awry, and it's Gretel and her pet hamster (named Hamster) who suddenly have new abilities. Now, protective older brother Kevin must figure out how to work with both Gretel and her pet Hamster to protect their city from mysterious dangers.
Disney+ announced today that Saara Chaudry (The Mysterious Benedict Society, Holly Hobbie) and Anders Holm (Workaholics, Inventing Anna) have been cast as Hannah and JJ in the highly anticipated live-action series, The Muppets Mayhem, joining previously announced stars, Lilly Singh (A Little Late with Lilly Singh, Dollface) and Tahj Mowry (Smart Guy, Baby Daddy). The comedy series follows The Electric Mayhem Band — Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone and Lips on trumpet — on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora Gibbs (Singh), the old-school Muppet band comes face to face with the current day music scene as they try to finally go platinum. Chaudry will star as series regular Hannah, Nora's younger and arguably more accomplished sister. Raised in the era of likes, shares and the idea that "if it wasn't posted, it didn't happen," Hannah translated her e-acumen and talent for enthusiastic and aspirational make-up videos into a burgeoning social media empire, complete with a legion of "Fan-a-Hannahs." Her success has unfortunately upended her dynamic with Nora. Holm was cast as recurring guest star JJ, a formerly sheepish, nerdy intern-turned uber-cool, tech entrepreneur who happens to be Nora's ex. On the surface, his ambition knows no bounds, but the real JJ underneath still hopes to win back Nora.

FX Renews What We Do in the Shadows for Seasons 5 and 6, Ahead of Season 4 Premiere; Hallmark Channel Scores in Ratings Even in Summer

Proving vampire roommates might be forever, FX's What We Do in the Shadows has been renewed for fifth and sixth seasons. The series will be coming soon to Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star banner in all other territories. In its first two seasons, What We Do in the Shadows received 10 Emmy(R)Award nominations, including one for Outstanding Comedy Series. Season 3 is currently eligible for Emmy consideration and recently earned three Critics' Choice Award nominations, including one for Best Comedy Series. What We Do in the Shadows, based on the feature film by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, documents the nightly exploits of vampire roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island with the help of their human familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén). Season four of What We Do in the Shadows premieres with two back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, July 12 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX and streaming the next day on Hulu. The teaser trailer is available now.
In the shocking season three finale, Nandor, Guillermo and Nadja left Staten Island to go their separate ways while Laszlo stayed home to care for the creature that clawed its way out of the chest cavity of the deceased Colin Robinson - aka Baby Colin. This season, the vampires return to Staten Island to find their mansion on the verge of total structural collapse - and with no money to repair it. While Nandor's eternal search for love finally yields results, Nadja finally realizes her dream of opening the hottest vampire nightclub in the Tri-State Area. Laszlo struggles with the question of nature versus nurture as he tries raising Baby Colin to be anything other than an energy vampire. And even Guillermo finds himself on a powerful emotional track that touches on his love for his family, and for others. With such terrifying locations as the secret supernatural Night Market, the Jersey Pine Barrens and a wedding altar, and with more strange beasts, surprising guest stars and tap dancing than ever, season four of What We Do in the Shadows continues to make the case for blood and comedy. And this time with just a touch of home renovation.
Hallmark Channel, the network known for Christmas movies, launched its annual Summer Nights programming event this weekend with a splash, featuring original movie premiere Hidden Gems, which was the #1 most-watched entertainment cable program of the day among Households, Women 18+, Women 25-54 and Total Viewers, as well as program of the week among Women 18+. The premiere elevated the network to be the #1 most-watched entertainment cable network in Weekend Total Day among Women 18+ and Women 25-54, as well as in Weekend Primetime among Households, Women 18+, and Total Viewers. Further, the premiere propelled Hallmark Channel to become the #2 most-watched entertainment cable network in Total Day for the week among Households, Women 18+, and Total Viewers. The film averaged 1.7 million Total Viewers and 224,000 Women 25-54.

Antenna TV Presents The Sunday Special; Apple TV+ Comedy Loot Premieres June 24

Antenna TV Presents: The Sunday Special returns for a special showing on Sunday, June 12. This time, the Sunday Special will be a marathon of Becker. The marathon will air from 8am-1pm. The last Sunday Special marathon aired in March with a day of Bewitched episodes. In Becker, Dr. John Becker (Ted Danson) is easily annoyed -- by noisy neighbors, a ridiculous comment, a flickering streetlight, the antics of his misfit staff members. He's a talented and dedicated doctor and goes the extra mile for those in need, but he doesn't waste a chance to give anyone a piece of his mind.
Apple TV+ unveiled the star-studded trailer for its new workplace comedy Loot, starring and executive produced by Emmy Award winner Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live, Bridesmaids). From Emmy Award-winning creators Alan Yang (Little America, Master of None) and Matt Hubbard (30 Rock, Forever), the 10-episode comedy will debut globally with the first three episodes on Friday, June 24 on Apple TV+, followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday. In addition to Rudolph, the Loot ensemble cast is led by stars Michaela Jaé Rodriguez (Pose), Ron Funches (Undateable), Nat Faxon (Married) and Joel Kim Booster (Sunnyside).
In Loot, billionaire Molly Novak (Rudolph) has a dream life, complete with private jets, a sprawling mansion, and a gigayacht — anything her heart desires. But when her husband of 20 years betrays her, she spirals publicly, becoming fuel for tabloid fodder. She's reaching rock bottom when she learns, to her surprise, that she has a charity foundation run by the no-nonsense Sofia Salinas (Rodriguez), who pleads with Molly to stop generating bad press. With her devoted assistant Nicholas (Kim Booster) by her side, and with the help of Sofia and team — including mild-mannered accountant Arthur (Faxon) and her optimistic, pop-culture-loving cousin Howard (Funches) — Molly embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Giving back to others might be what she needs to get back to herself.

Rowan Atkinson's Netflix Comedy Series Lands June 24; CBS's Summer of Ghosts

Man 🙋🏻♂️ Bee 🐝 Dog 🐶 = Disaster 🔥. Rowan Atkinson stars in Man Vs Bee, a comedy series that will get the whole family buzzing. Lands June 24 only on Netflix. 10 episodes will air. In the comedy, a man finds himself at war with a bee while housesitting a luxurious mansion. Who will win, and what irreparable damage will be done in the process? 🐝 See the trailer below!
CBS presents Summer of Ghosts, an immersive campaign honoring the "recently departed" first season of the CBS Original series Ghosts and its upcoming sophomore season this fall. Throughout the summer, multi-city, in-person events and unique Web3 metaverse experiences will celebrate the spirited title characters and living leads of the new comedy. Each character will be honored with a distinctive "to die for" activation, bringing their individual worlds and stories into the here and now with a variety of in-person events, stunts and experiences. Fans will explore the lives (and afterlives) of the spirits, including Flower, a hippie from the '60s; Hetty, a Victorian society woman and wife of a 19th-century robber baron; Alberta, the saucy Prohibition-era lounge singer; Isaac, the 18th-century forgotten Founding Father; Sasappis, a sarcastic native from the 16th century; Pete, the upbeat '80s scout troop leader; Thorfinn, a Viking warrior from 1009; and Trevor, the slick, pantsless-for-eternity '90s finance bro. Also to be feted are Samantha and Jay, the present-day married "livings" who recently inherited Woodstone Mansion, the country estate inhabited by the spirits whom Samantha has the ability to see and hear. Adding to the intrigue, each activation will feature a limited-edition collectible character NFT, as well as gift cards for a month-long subscription to Paramount+ where viewers can watch Ghosts' first season on demand.
As of mid-summer, fans from anywhere can also bridge dimensions between the living and the dead by virtually accessing the haunted grounds of Woodstone Mansion in a unique and easy-to-navigate Web3 Ghosts experience. The metaverse will feature an additional release of the 10 character-specific exclusive collectible NFTs. Collecting all 10 will enable fans to unlock distinct experiences in the metaverse mansion, which will showcase the series' set in remarkable detail. The interactive experience will feature games and surprises as people explore the assorted rooms and grounds. The campaign sprang to life in a moment of surprise and delight during Paramount's Upfront Presentation at Carnegie Hall, as members of the series' cast performed a comical musical number in character, now available on more than 150 music streaming services worldwide (including Spotify, Apple Music and Pandora) as "Ghosts: The Musical."
Next up for the activations in honor of each character are:
· Flower's Flowers - A flowery Los Angeles experience in June honoring the '60s bohemian spirit, Flower.
· Hetty-quette: a Book of Etiquette - A launch party for Hetty's book of social "Hetty-quette," even if her advice is a little dated!
· The Alberta Haynes Museum - The storied Alberta Haynes Museum, coming to life with an exclusive pop-up experience in Alberta's hometown of Altoona, Pa. For fans who can't make the trip in person, a tour on the Ghosts social channels will showcase the artifacts, memorabilia and Ghosts "Easter eggs."
· Sass's Ghost Stories - An evening storytelling performance in New York City to celebrate Sasappis' storytelling roots.
· Pete's Friend Zone - Pete's Pinecone Trooper-themed "Friend Zone" in San Diego, which will have a campsite feel, complete with A-frame-inspired tents for shade, activation stations and campsite snacks.
· Thorfinn's Viking Feast - A Viking lunch for Thorfinn, providing select fans with a Nordic-inspired dining experience at sea.
· Isaac's Victory - Isaac finally one-ups Alexander Hamilton when he's featured on an (wait for it ... ) $11 bill!
· Trevor's Hamptons Party - The exclusive "Forever Trevor" '90s-themed Hamptons bash to give Trevor the party of his dreams.
· Sam & Jay's Woodstone Premiere - The world premiere screening event to kick off season two.
Fans can follow @GhostsCBS on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok for upcoming specifics on the campaign, and use #SummerOfGhosts to join in the fun. Season two of the critically acclaimed #1 new comedy/series and breakout hit Ghosts will premiere in its new time slot at 8:30 PM on Thursdays on CBS this fall, with repeats airing throughout the summer. The entire first season is available to stream on demand on Paramount+. Ghosts stars Rose McIver (Samantha), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Jay), Brandon Scott Jones (Isaac), Richie Moriarty (Pete), Danielle Pinnock (Alberta), Asher Grodman (Trevor), Román Zaragoza (Sasappis), Sheila Carrasco (Flower), Rebecca Wisocky (Hetty) and Devan Chandler Long (Thorfinn). Black Comedy Revolution Doc to Air on A&E; MTV Movie & TV Awards to Air on Multiple Nets

A&E Network will premiere the new two-part documentary event Right to Offend: The Black Comedy Revolution exploring the progression of Black comedy and the comedians who have used pointed humor to expose, challenge and ridicule society's injustices and to articulate the Black experience in America. Executive produced by Kevin Hart's HARTBEAT and TIME Studios, the documentary explores Black comedy through a unique lens, tracing the evolution and social awakening of the courageous comedians who dared to push against the constraints of their time and spoke truth to power. Right to Offend: The Black Comedy Revolution is co-directed by Mario Diaz and Jessica Sherif and premieres Wednesday, June 29 at 9pm ET/PT and Thursday, June 30 at 9pm ET/PT on A&E. Right to Offend: The Black Comedy Revolution will also be available on demand and to stream on the A&E app and aetv.com.
The documentary traces the history of Black comedy and its under-appreciated legacy of driving social change across the 20th and 21st centuries. From Redd Foxx, Moms Mabley and Dick Gregory during the civil rights movement, Richard Pryor in the 70s, Eddie Murphy and Whoopi Goldberg in the 80s, to the power of In Living Color and Def Comedy Jam in the 90s, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle in the 2000s and groundbreaking modern-day comedians and creators like Key & Peele, Issa Rae, Amber Ruffin and Tiffany Haddish. Across four hours, Right to Offend explores the rare position these artists and many more hold in our society as both entertainers and truth tellers that speak to audiences in ways no other performers can.
Featuring interviews with some of the greatest comedy minds of all time (including Jimmie Walker, Marsha Warfield and many more) as well as a rich collection of archival material, the two-part event reveals the personal stories and tribulations faced by many Black performers in attaining greater acceptance and opening the doors for a true representation of the Black experience. The documentary also traces how each generation of comedians built upon the foundations created by their predecessors to help evolve and push the boundaries of comedy as a means for social change and fought for a greater definition and understanding of what it means to be Black in America.

Abbott Elementary Star to Host ABC Game Show; Amazon Orders The Hospital

Comedian Janelle James (Abbott Elementary) will host the new, physical comedy competition series, The Final Straw, premiering Sunday, July 10 from 9:00-10:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. NFL superstar Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions also joins the project as executive producer. The stakes are high as four teams of colorful contestants face off to combat tremendous tipping towers. Each life-sized themed tower is chock full of various objects ranging from basketballs to small kitchen appliances as contestants try to successfully pull items from the stack without tipping it over in order to earn prizes. If the tower falls, the team is eliminated; and the last team standing will compete against The Mega Stack, an epic battle of physics where the odds are literally stacked against them, in hopes of winning a life-changing grand prize of up to $250,000 with the option to walk away or risk it all. James has written and appeared on Showtime's Black Monday, Apple TV+'s Central Park, and is currently a series regular on the ABC sitcom Abbott Elementary as Principal Ava.
Amazon Studios announced that it has ordered two seasons of The Hospital, a new sci-fi animated comedy created by Cirocco Dunlap and executive produced by Maya Rudolph, Natasha Lyonne, and Danielle Renfrew Behrens through Animal Pictures. Shauna McGarry will also executive produce. Keke Palmer, Greta Lee, Kieran Culkin, Sam Smith, Rudolph and Lyonne will voice aliens in the series with more voice cast to be announced. The Hospital will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The Hospital is a completely original concept that follows Sleech and Klak - aliens, best friends, and intergalactically renowned surgeons - as they tackle anxiety-eating parasites, illegal time loops, and deep-space STIs. Risking their careers to take on a remarkable case, they put existence itself in jeopardy. Although considering their dismal personal lives, oblivion might be an improvement.
Keke Palmer will voice-star as Dr. Klak, a brilliant, multi-eyed surgeon who spends her down time feeding her sentient plants, obsessively reviewing past failures, and watching hit show My Lover, My Clone with her best friend Dr. Sleech. Greta Lee will voice-star as Dr. Sleech, a reckless, cocky surgeon whose main saving graces are her genius, her well-oiled lizard tail, and her unconditional love for her best friend Dr. Klak. Natasha Lyonne will voice-star as Nurse Tup, a playful nihilist with chameleon flesh who thrives in the chaos of the Hospital. Maya Rudolph will voice-star as Dr. Vlam, a robot intern who has been alive for at least 20,000 years. Kieran Culkin will voice-star as Dr. Plowp, a surgeon, an empath, and an adult experiencing puberty. And Sam Smith will voice-star as Dr. Azel, a galactically-renowned surgeon with ambiguous morals and six well-manicured feet.

Seth MacFarlane's Peacock Comedy Series Ted Rounds Out Cast; Twisted Metal Comedy Series in the Works

Peacock announces Alanna Ubach to round out series regulars in Seth MacFarlane's highly anticipated comedy series, Ted, the highly-anticipated live-action comedy series based on the blockbuster film franchise. Ubach (Euphoria, The Flight Attendant, See Dad Run) to star alongside previously announced series regulars Giorgia Whigham, Max Burkholder and Scott Grimes in UCP and MRC Television Series. MacFarlane is set to reprise iconic voice role and direct, write, co-showrun and executive produce all episodes alongside co-showrunners, writers and executive producers Paul Corrigan & Brad Walsh (Modern Family).
Ubach will play the role of Susan Bennett. Susan is kind, selfless, and almost pathologically sweet when it comes to caring for her family, and sees the world through naive, rose-colored glasses. MacFarlane (The Orville, Ted & Ted 2, Family Guy) is set to reprise the voice of the iconic and loveable foul-mouthed teddy bear Ted, and will also direct, write, co-showrun and executive produce all episodes alongside co-showrunners, writers and executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh (Modern Family). Peacock also previously announced series regular stars Giorgia Whigham (The Punisher, 13 Reasons Why), Max Burkholder (Parenthood) and Scott Grimes (Oppenheimer, The Orville). The series comes from MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door and will be executive produced by President Erica Huggins. Alana Kleiman and Jason Clark will also serve as executive producers. Clark is returning after producing the iconic Ted film franchise. The upcoming series comes from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and MRC Television. About the new series, Ted: It's 1993 and Ted the bear's moment of fame has passed, leaving him living with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett, who lives in a working-class Boston home with his parents and cousin. Ted may not be the best influence on John, but when it comes right down to it, Ted's willing to go out on a limb to help his friend and his family.
Ted is the second series order since MacFarlane and Fuzzy Door signed a multi-year television deal with UCP in 2020. Also coming to Peacock this year from Fuzzy Door is the disaster science series The End is Nye, hosted by Emmy Award-winner and renowned science educator Bill Nye. Fuzzy Door will produce alongside Universal Television Alternative Studio and UCP, divisions of Universal Studio Group. Next up for the company is The Orville: New Horizons, the highly anticipated third season of the Emmy-nominated space adventure series, premiering on Hulu on June 2.
Peacock also announced that Neve Campbell (Scream 5, Clouds, Part of Five) will recur as guest star in the new action-comedy series Twisted Metal, a live-action adaptation of the global video game phenomenon. Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) is also starring and executive producing. Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) to co-star opposite Mackie, alongside Thomas Haden Church (Wings, Sideways, Divorce, Spider-Man: No Way Home). Will Arnett and Marc Forman from Electric Avenue (Murderville) secured the rights to the material and helped put the project together alongside Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, are also set to executive produce.
Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai) will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer for the live-action comedy from Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Kitao Sakurai (The Eric Andre Show, Bad Trip) will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series. Twisted Metal, a half-hour live-action TV series based on the classic PlayStation game series, is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland) about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he'll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.
