Trailer for Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Finale Event; HGTV's Totally '90s House with '90s TV Stars

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place

The official trailer for the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place 4-part finale event was revealed today, including a first look at the return of fan-favorite characters Harper Finkle (Jennifer Stone) and Mason Greyback (Gregg Sulkin). A marathon of the 4-part finale event kicks off Tuesday, Aug. 4, on Disney Channel (8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT) and Disney Channel On Demand. All episodes will be available on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Billie, still reeling from losing Alex at the end of Season 2, discovers that the only way to rescue her mother is to reunite with her long-lost father. As her family bands together to find Alex, Billie realizes that their combined power is the only way the Russos can defeat the evil plaguing them.

As previously announced, executive producer Selena Gomez will make her directorial debut with the premiere episode. She will also reprise her role as Alex Russo in multiple episodes. The series stars David Henrie (as Justin Russo), Janice LeAnn Brown (as Billie), Alkaio Thiele (as Roman Russo), Max Matenko (as Milo Russo), Taylor Cora (as Winter) and Mimi Gianopulos (as Giada Russo). Brandon Micheal Hall will guest star as Damien Penwulf, Billie's father. He joins the previously announced guest cast of Jennifer Stone (“Harper Finkle”), Gregg Sulkin (“Mason Greyback”), Maria Canals-Barrera (“Theresa Russo”), Ramon Reed (“Silas Evilini”) and Tobias Jelinek (“Lord Morsus”).

Totally '90s House - Keshia Knight Pulliam, Matthew Lawrence, Melissa Joan Hart, Jaleel White, Jodie Sweetin, Beverley Mitchell and Brian Austin Green

Popular nineties television idols with a passion for design and renovation will go step by step back into the iconic decade as they search for America's homes frozen in time in the new HGTV series Totally '90s House, premiering Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. A true blast from the past, the six-episode renovation competition, hosted by actor, producer and game show host Jaleel White (Family Matters), will follow two celeb teams as they scour the country for houses stuck in the 1990s - think honey oak cabinets, sponge-painted walls and mirrored closets - with each team ultimately picking their perfect throwback in need of a major overhaul.

The superstar teams will spotlight Brian Austin Green (Beverly Hills, 90210), Beverley Mitchell (7th Heaven) and Jodie Sweetin (Full House) going up against Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch), Matthew Lawrence (Boy Meets World) and Keshia Knight Pulliam (The Cosby Show) with help from Matthew's brother Joey Lawrence (Blossom). Backed by design expertise from mentors Carter Oosterhouse (Carter Can) and Sabrina Soto (The High Low Project), the competitors will face a massive challenge - modernize the dated spaces while preserving their nostalgic charm in hopes of creating the ideal '90s-inspired dream home - to win bragging rights and $25,000 for their chosen charity.

SitcomsOnline Digest: Roku Adds New Channels for Bernie Mac, Blossom, and Cougar Town; Catchy Comedy Introduces Catchy Loves Lucy

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! It's a very busy week this week (one of our busiest in a while!) with some new things coming to streaming, a new programming block for Catchy Comedy, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

  • Roku has added some new channels, including 24/7 channels for The Bernie Mac Show, Blossom, and Cougar Town. (Cord Cutters News)
  • Catchy Comedy is making a few changes starting next weekend, as they will be ending their weekly Catchy Binge and replacing it with a new Sunday lineup that will include (among other things) Catchy Loves Lucy, a weekly block that features curated collections of episodes of every sitcom (even Life with Lucy) that Lucille Ball starred in, as well as other features about and related to Lucille Ball. (Cord Cutters News)
  • Saturday Night Live is going international, with the launch of a new Saturday Night Live UK, and they've now announced the cast. (Deadline)
  • CBS is planning to introduce their fall lineup a bit earlier than broadcast networks traditionally do. (Deadline)
  • The Voice will occupy a two hour timeslot when it returns for a new season. (Deadline)
  • As daytime talk shows continue to dwindle, Sherri has been canceled. (Variety)
  • That's not the only daytime talk show that has been canceled, as The Kelly Clarkson Show has been as well. (Deadline)
  • Many people probably didn't know that there is a Children's and Family Emmy Awards or that they have a Lifetime Achievement Award, but it probably would come as no surprise that Bill Nye is set to receive that award this year. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • NBC has renewed St. Denis Medical and Happy's Place. (SitcomsOnline)
WEEKLY PLANNER (FEBRUARY 7 - FEBRUARY 13)

  • Every week for the past few years, we've reminded you of the weekly Catchy Comedy (and before that, Decades) Binge, but this will be the last time as Here's Lucy is featured tomorrow as the last planned binge before they switch to a different Sunday lineup.
  • Although NBC is once again using the Winter Olympics as their post-Super Bowl programming rather than debuting a new series, sibling streaming platform Peacock will be debuting their series The 'Burbs on Sunday.
  • Antenna TV has a marathon of Designing Women tomorrow.
  • Buzzr is now airing the Drew Carey episodes of The Price is Right in addition to the Bob Barker ones
  • As we mentioned, there are new Roku channels dedicated to The Bernie Mac Show, Blossom, and Cougar Town.

  • NBC will be having some special Sunday night post-NFL episodes of The Tonight Show starting next month. (Deadline)

  • English Teacher is returning for a second season on FX. (SitcomsOnline)
WEEKLY PLANNER (AUGUST 30 - SEPTEMBER 5)

SitcomsOnline Digest: Fox Cancels Welcome to Flatch; Mayim Bialik Floats Blossom Reboot Idea

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! It's a little bit of a busy news week, with news about the cancelation of one of Fox's few live-action comedy series, another step toward the death of cable television, and a Blossom reboot idea that probably won't happen. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

  • Fox, which hasn't exactly been able to find any truly successful live-action comedy in a very long time, has canceled Welcome to Flatch. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • The first two episodes of Turn-On, the late 60s series that was infamously canceled midway through the first episode (on one ABC affiliate, at least), will be available on YouTube this week. (Deadline)
  • With the rise of streaming media and decline in cable, a lot of those niche channels that were added to cable lineups in the 90s (when channel lineups went from 40 channels to 400 channels) are no longer necessary, and one analyst predicts has a list of 30 channels that he predicts will shutdown soon. (Cord Cutters News)
  • Don't get your hopes too high about it, because it seems it's just an idea that Mayim Bialik has that no network seems to be interested in, but she wants to bring Blossom back, just not as a sitcom. (Deadline)
  • NFL player Dick Butkus, who had a post-retirement career as an actor and also had regular roles on My Two Dads and Hang Time, has died. (CNN)
  • The Drew Barrymore Show is coming back, but her writers aren't, as a response to her original plan to bring the show back without writers before the strike ended. (Variety)
  • If you've been waiting for new live-action scripted material, we'll finally see some next Saturday as NBC brings back Saturday Night Live, which is not affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike, for a new season. (SitcomsOnline)

WEEKLY PLANNER (OCTOBER 7 - OCTOBER 13)

  • The revival of Frasier arrives Thursday on Paramount+.
  • Moonlighting arrives on Hulu on Tuesday.
  • Catchy Comedy is switching things up with movies this weekend, with a binge of Laurel and Hardy movies.
  • Antenna TV's Sunday Special this weekend features Alice.

SitcomsOnline Digest: Blossom Reunion Set for Call Me Kat Season Finale; Dancing with the Stars to Move to Disney+

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we're hearing about a Blossom reunion on Call Me Kat, more daytime TV cancellations, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

  • Mayim Bailik and her Blossom father (played by Ted Wass) are set to reunite on Call Me Kat in May. (Deadline)
  • We've been saying almost weekly that the current season is shaping up to be monumental in terms of the number of long-running daytime TV shows that are being canceled, and the latest one (the 7th among those that have been on five or more years by our count) to go is The Real. (Variety)
  • Discovery is now the official parent of Warner Bros., ending the AT&T ownership era. (CNN)
  • Don't go looking for Dancing with the Stars on ABC's lineup this fall, as it is moving to Disney+. (Deadline)
  • Netflix has ordered a new scripted comedy Unstable, with Rob Lowe and his son, but if his history of leaving series as soon as he gets bored with them continues, we imagine Rob Lowe won't want to stay on there long. (SitcomsOnline)

WEEKLY PLANNER (APRIL 2 - APRIL 8)

  • The new Craig Robinson comedy Killing It arrives on Peacock on Thursday.
  • Decades has a binge of Hawaiian Eye this weekend.
  • It's not exactly news (since it is what they do every weekend, though changing out series occasionally), but GAC Family has Full House all day today and Who's the Boss? all day tomorrow.

ABC Faves Head to Hulu; SMILF Gets 2nd Season on Showtime

Blossom

Just in time for the holidays, Hulu announced that it has licensed the subscription streaming rights to even more hits for the whole family from The Disney/ABC Television Group, including ABC's hit drama series, Designated Survivor. In addition to becoming the exclusive U.S. SVOD home to Designated Survivor, the complete libraries of fan favorites such as Revenge, Cougar Town, Shadowhunters, Marvel's Agent Carter, Blossom, The Catch, Bunheads, Perception and more will be added to Hulu. These series join a growing list of popular series from The Disney/ABC Television Group family now streaming on Hulu, including ABC's original "TGIF" lineup, The Golden Girls, Ellen, black-ish, and more.

SMILF

SHOWTIME is picking up its hit comedy series SMILF for a second season. Created, starring and executive produced by Frankie Shaw, SMILF is a raw, honest look at the life of a 20-something single mom based on her Sundance Film Festival Jury Award-winning short film of the same name. The series also stars multiple Emmy(R) winner Rosie O'Donnell in her first series regular TV role. SMILF will go back into production next year. The season one finale will air on New Year's Eve, December 31 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, with a special preview available online and On Demand on Friday, December 29.

SMILF takes a comedic look at the life of Bridgette Bird (Shaw), a young woman from South Boston whose desires for relationships, sex and a career collide with the realities of working-class single motherhood. Shaw brings her singular, unapologetic point of view to the semi-autobiographical comedy series, whose title is meant to be ironic and to reclaim the demeaning nature of the label. The cast also includes Miguel Gomez, Samara Weaving and Alexandra and Anna Reimer. Season one guest stars include Emmy and Golden Globe(R) nominee Connie Britton, Mark Webber and Raven Goodwin.

Blossom, Big Bang Theory Star Hosting Candid Camera; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of July 28, 2014)

Mayim Bialik

TV Land announced that Emmy(R) Award nominee Mayim Bialik (Blossom, The Big Bang Theory) will host TV Land's new original version of Candid Camera alongside executive producer and long-time host Peter Funt, son of the show's creator and first host, Allen Funt. As we first broke, the series will premiere on TV Land on Monday, August 11 at 8pm, with original episodes also airing Tuesday, August 12; Wednesday, August 13; and Thursday, August 14 at 8pm. Candid Camera will begin airing in its regular time slot on Tuesdays at 8pm on August 19th. Encore episodes can be seen throughout the week at 8pm. Be on the lookout for the cameras! Candid Camera's crew is all over the country taping now, having already visited cities such as Chicago, IL and Norwalk, CT, and even The Big Apple, where actress Megan Hilty (Smash) and Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg helped pull gags on unsuspecting New Yorkers and delivering the iconic line, "Smile, you're on 'Candid Camera!'"

Before reality television even had a name, the original series introduced the hidden camera concept to television in 1948, and Candid Camera continued in several iterations over the course of more than 50 years. The landmark series concealed cameras to capture the reactions of ordinary people being confronted with unusual and often challenging situations. On August 11, after influencing generations of television programs, the gold standard returns.

Who to Follow: Joey Lawrence (Twitter), "Actor, entertainer, musician, singer, songwriter, philanthropist and most importantly, father."
Claim to Fame:   We (sort of) continue our Gimme a Break! theme again this week with a child actor who not only managed to succeed as both a young child and as a teenager, but managed to succeed yet again as an adult in the sitcom world. Joey Lawrence began his career with a guest appearances on both Silver Spoons and Diff'rent Strokes, and by 1983, at age seven, he had been cast as a regular on Gimme a Break! When that series was over, he had a brief break before returning to the NBC primetime lineup in the early 1990s in the series Blossom. It was during that time that he became a teenage heartthrob, so much so that he even managed to release an album that was a hit on the Billboard music charts. When Blossom ended, he already had a third series lined up, yet again on the NBC (and later moving to The WB) sitcom, Brotherly Love, which wasn't as successful as his previous two series but still still popular enough to air in reruns on The Disney Channel for several years. Currently, he is starring in his fourth sitcom on ABC Family, Melissa and Joey.

Blossom Reunion on The Hub; Mystery Girls Premiere Episode Switch on ABC Family

Blossom Reunion - Michael Stoyanov, Mayim Bialik, Joey Lawrence and Jenna von Oy

As we mentioned, reruns of the popular '90s sitcom Blossom are coming to The Hub in a few weeks (starting July 7). Now we have learned that most of the cast reunited for some promos and a photo shoot to celebrate the series returning in reruns. Reuniting were Mayim Bialik, Jenna von Oy, Joey Lawrence and Michael Stoyanov. They got together almost 15 years after Blossom ended. Bialik tweeted, "The HubTVNetwork shoot for the #blossomreunion is going great!!!!" She added, "Um...@joeylawrence @MikeStoyanov @JennavonOy. We still look like young whippersnappers @hubtvnetwork #blossomreunion" We can't wait to see the show back in reruns on July 7 on The Hub! The cast of The Wonder Years recently reunited as well for a piece on the upcoming Wonder Years DVD and of course Boy Meets World is coming back with a new series, Girl Meets World, at the end of this month. It's the return of the '90s, indeed! We're not getting a reunion or retrospective or anything for Blossom, but it's always cool to see a cast reunite, even just for a photo shoot and promos. Stay with us for continued updates! Whoa!

Mystery Girls

Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth reunite in ABC Family's new comedy Mystery Girls, premiering next Wednesday (June 25) at 8:30pm ET/PT. The premiere episode will now be a different episode. The sitcom follows Charlie Contour (Garth), a suburban housewife and mother, and Holly Hamilton (Spelling), who longs for her glory days in the 90's when she was on television starring with Charlie as the "Mystery Girls." Both of their lives are disrupted when Nick (Miguel Pinzon), a witness to a crime and a "Mystery Girls" fanatic, will only speak to the infamous duo, and the former friends must reunite and put their TV crime-solving skills to the test.

In the new premiere episode, "Death Becomes Her," Nick discovers an online rumor going around that Holly is dead, but instead of immediately correcting it, they start selling some of her unwanted belongings online to make extra money and find that someone is trying to sell a sex tape from her TV show days. The 'Mystery Girls' let the rumor flourish and throw a fake memorial service, complete with Holly in disguise, in order to track down the culprit. The actual pilot episode, "Pilot," which was slated to air on this night, will now air a few weeks later on Wednesday, July 16.

Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars has been picked up for not one but two more seasons! The hit series started airing its fifth season last night and now ABC Family has picked up a sixth AND seventh season! The network has picked up an unprecedented two seasons of its longest-running original hit series, Pretty Little Liars, from Warner Horizon Television. Season six is set to air mid-2015, and season seven is set to air mid-2016. It will likely follow the pattern of a summer run for its first half and then a winter run to complete its season. Pretty Little Liars is ABC Family's #1 series in the network's history in Total Viewers (3.8 million) and across all target demos: Adults 18-34 (1.5 million/2.2 rating), Women 18-34 (1.3 million/3.7 rating), Adults 18-49 (2.0 million/1.6 rating), Women 18-49 (1.7 million/2.7 rating), Viewers 12-34 (2.6 million/2.8 rating) and Females 12-34 (2.3 million/4.9 rating). In fact, PLL has been TV's #1 cable telecast in the hour for 95-consecutive original telecasts in Females 12-34 - every telecast since its June 2010 series launch - for 47 in Adults 18-34, for 54 in Women 18-34, for 50 in Women 18-49 and for 58 in Viewers 12-34.

Last night's season 5 premiere of Pretty Little Liars entitled "EscApe From New York" picked up where the season four finale left off, with Aria and the Liars reeling from Ezra's shooting at the hands of "A." The five girls quickly realized that as the one person who truly knows "A's" identity, Ezra is in grave danger. While Aria stood watch over Ezra at the hospital, Alison and the PLLs layed a trap to finally flush out "A" and were shocked by who was ensnared.

TV Land June 2010 Has Hot in Cleveland, But No Brady Bunch; An Interview with Mayim Bialik, Who Is On Big Bang Tonight

Now that upfronts are over, we will bring you back news we delayed. TV Land June 2010 is one of those items we delayed. But not to fret, we will give that to you TODAY! TV Land will be making some schedule changes, too. Starting Tuesday, June 1, the morning marathons from 9am-1pm will be removed and an hour of the morning paid programming will also be removed! The 8am hour will now be Boston Legal from Tues-Fri instead of Paid Programming. Then a sitcom block will air from 9am-12pm with an episode of All in the Family and two episodes of each of Good Times and Sanford & Son. There will be extra commercials, so that is why a 30 minute slot is missing. The Brady Bunch was NOT renewed and thus it is off the schedule, as it was airing Thursdays 9am-1pm. Catch its last airing on TV Land this Thursday. At 12pm will now be Gunsmoke, followed by a Bonanza block from 1pm-5pm. On Mondays, movies will air from 8am-12pm, with Bonanza airing 12pm-5pm. And the rest of the changes are in the overnight, with Cosby Show listed from 1am-2:30am, but due to extra commercials it is just 2 episodes. Home Improvement will air two episodes at 2:30am and 3am, while Three's Company gets three from 3:30am-5am. M*A*S*H returns to the 5am hour replacing Boston Legal.
As for the month's highlights, the season finale of How'd You Get So Rich airs Wednesday, June 9 at 10 p.m. The following week (Wednesday, June 16 at 10) has the premiere of sitcom Hot in Cleveland. The sitcom revolves around three fabulous L.A. women of a certain age who are best friends (Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, and Betty White). Their lives are changed forever when their plane – headed for Paris – unexpectedly lands in Cleveland and they soon rediscover themselves in a new "promised land." Loving their new home, the women find themselves living under one roof and battling the sassy caretaker of the property they have rented, played by the inimitable Betty White.
On Wednesday, June 16 at 10:30pm there will be a special. The third season (6 episodes) of TV Land's hit original series She's Got The Look returns Wednesday, August 25 to discover the next supermodel over the age of 35. But before that happens, get a preview of what is to come in season three airs after the premiere of TV Land's first original sitcom--Hot in Cleveland! It's the only airing, so watch it.
On Saturday, June 26 from 9pm-10:30pm, TV Land presents The 38th AFI Life Achievement Award to Mike Nichols, adding yet another high honor to the hefty resume of the award-winning writer, producer and director. Past honorees include Michael Douglas, Meryl Streep and Al Pacino. The AFI Life Achievement award was established in 1973 to honor an individual whose career in motion pictures or TV has greatly contributed to the enrichment of American culture. The criteria state that "the recipient should be one whose talent has in a fundamental way advanced the film art; whose accomplishment has been acknowledged by scholars, critics, professional peers and the general public; and whose work has stood the test of time."
TV Land Monday Movie premieres for June 2010 are 48 Hours, Roxanne, Naked Gun, Beverly Hills Cop III, and Stand By Me. Encore movies this month are Ghostbusters and Another 48 Hours.
View the COMPLETE schedule and information on TV Land June 2010. And we promise TV Land July will come sooner, maybe even this week...stay with us! One question we will answer is...will Good Times return (its contract expires at the end of June)?

Our pal Chris Mann of Retroality.tv has posted a new interview on his groovy website! Chris has posted an interview with Mayim Bialik of Blossom fame (the '90s sitcom) in connection with her appearance on the season finale of the sitcom The Big Bang Theory airing tonight on CBS. She previews her character/episode and talks about Blossom of course, SNL's spoof of her and her show in the '90s, her return to Hollywood and much more! Chris also mentions of the sort of Blossom reunion on 'Til Death earlier this month (that was watched by only less than 2 million people).
View this very interesting interview with Mayim Bialik. Chris does a wonderful job once again, like usual!
