Welcome to Digital Digest! It's another slow fall news week, of course, but we're here with all of your news, and reviews of Fantasy Island - The Complete Third Season and Happiness Is... Peanuts - Go Snoopy Go! Let's get started!
DIGITAL NEWS
It seems like it was only yesterday that CBS released Perry Mason - Season 7, Volume 2 (well really it was four days ago), and we're just a little over a month away from the beginning of the eighth season with Perry Mason - Season 8, Volume 1. You'd think that would be all of the upcoming releases, but that is incorrect, because yet another release is on the way for January 15 with Perry Mason - Season 8, Volume 2! This will only leave the two releases for season nine unreleased, and it is probably a safe bet to say that we'll see those sometime in 2012.
I Love Lucy is something that seems to be "said and done" on DVD, but about two weeks ago, we found out that wasn't exactly the case as CBS re-released most of the seasons (with the remaining ones coming next month, although technically Target is offering every season right now as a Target exclusive) in new packaging. For the most part, these re-releases come in packages with new "cartoon" artwork, a standard Viva case, and the disc artwork is replaced with the CBS "series logo on a gray background" standard... in other words, they are more like the other releases that CBS has out there. But it is worth noting one release in particular, and that is I Love Lucy - The Complete First Season. When CBS released this set, TV on DVD was just beginning, so this ended up being a rather large set, but the big problem was that the episodes had not been remastered as the episodes were for the remaining seasons. These issues were rectified with I Love Lucy - The Complete Series, but there wasn't any way of getting just the "better" season one release by itself... but now, with this re-release, we can happily report that all issues have been fixed to match the other releases.
Last week, VEI supposedly released Cagney & Lacey - The Complete Series on DVD... but we have to put emphasis on supposedly. While we don't exactly know what is going on, it appears that there is some sort of delay keeping it out of the hands of fans for now. We can't find any website actually shipping the set (US or Canada), and a post on the official series blog seems to indicate uncertainty even from the series producer as to when fans will actually be able to order the limited edition release. We don't doubt that this set is on the way... after all, it is really pretty rare for a VEI release to actually show up on the anticipated release date... but we don't think it is available just yet, and we'll let you know when it actually is available.

On a related note, McMillan & Wife - The Complete Series was slated for a release by VEI this coming Tuesday. That release has similarly been delayed until November (and, for all we know, this date may not be final either). We'll let you know more when we know more.
UPCOMING WEEK PREVIEW
Tuesday (October 23) has several releases, but only two sitcoms. First, we have Happy Endings - The Complete Second Season (our review). Lionsgate wraps up the final episodes of a TBS sitcom with Meet the Browns - Season 7. Shout! Factory moves forward with Fantasy Island in Fantasy Island - The Complete Third Season. We have a review of this set today in Digital Digest. CBS has two releases, with The Fugitive - Most Wanted Edition (The Complete Series) and Perry Mason - Season 7, Volume 2. You can see our Perry Mason review in last week's Digital Digest. Finally, TGG has In the Heat of the Night - 24 Hour Marathon Collection, consisting of 32 episodes of the classic crime drama.

DVD Review: Fantasy Island - The Complete Third Season (Shout!, $39.97)

Smiles, everyone, smiles! Fantasy Island returns to DVD with 23 more episodes from the third season. The classic ABC series follows Mr. Roarke (Ricardo Montalbán) and his sidekick Tattoo (Hervé Villechaize) as they fulfill the fantasies of everybody who comes to the island (oh, and many of them just so happen to be well-known TV stars from other series) for a price... and shows them that they must be careful what they wish for.
As in the past, we can't describe every plot in every episode, since there are simply too many (two per episode), and some of them really aren't that great. But we'll go through a few of them here, and we'll list some (of the many) guest stars with the runtimes.
A man sees a hit man eliminating him as the way for his family to get rich off of his insurance in "Hit Man." Tattoo has a fantasy that is too much for him to handle in "Tattoo: The Love God." Tattoo decides to adopt a baby boy in "Baby." In "The Boss," a woman's struggle for power puts her on the top where she'd like to be, but it won't be a smooth ride. A 50-year-old woman wants young romance in her life in "Young at Heart." In "The Wedding," Mr. Roarke's fantasy is shattered when his bride-to-be has an untimely death. An overweight woman wants to get thin for revenge in "Class of '69." A man wants to spend the weekend with a movie star in "Marooned," but his fantasy is not at all like the reality.
The set comes packaged in a Viva case. The cover has a photo of Mr. Roarke and Tattoo with the island in the background. On the back, there are several episode snapshots, a description of the series, and a list of some of the more well-known guest stars. Inside the case, you'll find a list of episodes, but instead of episode descriptions, there is a list of guest stars by episode... but these lists aren't really that great, because they seem to randomly list guest stars and miss some of the bigger names in the episodes. The set contains six discs, each which has artwork identical to the cover art.
The menus are pretty much the same as the previous release. The main menu has a photo of Mr. Roarke and Tattoo (same one from the cover art), and video clips from the episodes on the disc play in the right-hand corner of the screen. The theme song plays in the background. Options on the main menu include Play All and Episodes. Once you select Play Episodes, you get a listing of the episodes while some transitional music plays in the background. Each episode contains chapters placed at each commercial break.
The episodes on the set generally look and sound good. There are some defects, such as debris and low audio levels, but none of it is anything to really be worried about. Honestly, the episodes look better than one would expect. Each episode is closed-captioned.

Like the second season, there are no special features on this set once again.
Once again, Shout! has put together a great set for this series, and I'm hoping that we'll see more of this series from them in the future. Sony seems to be releasing this series too as MOD releases, but they are running behind Shout! (at least for now), and pressed DVDs are definitely preferable to MOD releases. I have a feeling we'll never see any special features on these releases, which is a shame, but at least we are getting the episodes in an unedited and high quality form. This DVD set truly is a fantasy come true... but without the consequences!

DVD Review: Happiness Is...Peanuts - Go Snoopy Go! (Warner, $14.97)

America's favorite pastime only gets better when Peanuts hits the field in the TV special It's Spring Training, Charlie Brown. Baseball season's first game is coming up, but Charlie Brown's team doesn't even have uniforms. Can their new player, little Leland, help them reach a big victory? Then, the antics continue in five adventures from The Charlie Brown & Snoopy Show. Snoopy swoops in on the gang when he thinks he's a winged predator in "Vulture," Linus tries to break a habit in Blanket, school means trouble for "Peppermint Patty," the back of a bicycle is the road to excitement in "Rerun" and Charlie Brown tries to rouse spirits in "Rainy Day." Bring home the latest Peanuts DVD collection as there's no stopping the fun when Snoopy is on the go!
It's Spring Training, Charlie Brown is from 1992 and the 35th primetime special that Peanuts had. It never aired on CBS in 1992 though for some reason, so it was not released until 1996 when it made it on home video. It is a perfect time to bring it to DVD for the very first time as the MLB Playoffs are going on. That's better than spring training, Charlie Brown! On this set we also have an episode from the 1983-85 series The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show. It is episode #13 and titled "It's that Team Spirit, Charlie Brown" and we get four short episodes in this episode.
Let's take a look at the runtimes and number of chapter stops for each special:
1. It's Spring Training, Charlie Brown (23:02, 5 chapters)
2. The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show Episode #13 (22:27, 6 chapters)
Let's now move on to the packaging. It's the same as all the previous sets like these. We get a very thin keep case, that is movie style. The cover art is in blue and has a artwork of Snoopy tipping his red cap as Woodstock is above the cap. The title of the set is on top and we have different Peanuts characters in the blue background. The bottom has a Snoopy Peanuts logo. To the back we go, we get a nice shot of Charlie Brown running with Snoopy & Woodstock. The back also has details on the two specials. When we open the case, there is no artwork inside, so it is just plain black, like usual. We have an insert for a coupon for a jar of Peanut Butter & Co. Save $1! The disc is on the right panel and is in a grey color with blue shading. It has artwork of Snoopy about to jump in a tub with Woodstock.
The menu screen has options of Features, Trailers, and Languages. We get that blue background again along with the same artwork style as the cover art, with the theme song playing in the background. For Languages, we have options for English, Chinese, Espanol, Portuguese, and Thai. For subtitles we have English, French, Chinese, Espanol, Portuguese, and Thai. The Features section have the two specials listed by title, we can also select Play All to play them consecutively. Finally, Trailers has previews of Peanuts Holiday Collection, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Peanuts Halloween/Elected. There is also an auto-trailers before the main menu for Tom & Jerry sets.
The video and audio is good. These aren't new specials really, but they look good. All of these specials are all so good ever since they started the Remastered Collection sets. However, I don't see that wording on this set for some reason. So maybe it isn't? Still, I am very impressed yet again. Warner continues to do a great job on this remastering of all these classic specials. Even though The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show episode isn't a special, the It's Spring Training, Charlie Brown is. That special looks much better than the former on here. It is newer, but that doesn't mean anything as the '60s/'70s specials even looked better. And also the main thing is that all of the specials are unedited! These sets are must buys for the video quality alone, as it is a major improvement over the VHS versions or anything you taped from TV in the last two decades.
As for special features, we get nothing here at all. That is a disappointment since we usually get at least one featurette on a set.
I once again highly do recommend this set for any Charlie Brown-Peanuts fan and classic animation in general. Continue your collection, because we get another special that we never had on DVD before and we even get an episode of the The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show. I wonder when that series will be released completely, as episodes only get released on these Happiness Is...Peanuts DVDs. 5 of the 18 episodes have come out that way. And let's hope they continue to release more Peanuts specials and eventually we get them all remastered in our personal libraries! It's runaway fun with Peanuts

NBC Cancels Animal Practice, Replaces It With Whitney; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of October 22, 2012)
NBC announced that its second-year comedy series Whitney will return to its primetime lineup on Wednesday, November 14 at 8:00pm ET/PT replacing Animal Practice, which is now canceled. However, as of now, three more airings will air in the next three weeks (Oct. 24, 31 and Nov. 7). The ratings have been pretty bad as this past Wednesday's episode did only a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating. 13 episodes were ordered, but its not known how many they have taped. We know it is at least 8.
On Whitney, Whitney Cummings stars in the title role in the multi-camera series which is a look at modern-day love and relationships which centers around Whitney (Cummings, Chelsea Lately) and Alex (Chris D'Elia), a happily - newly "married" couple. Surrounded by a quirky group of friends, Zoe Lister-Jones, Rhea Seehorn, Dan O'Brien (How I Met Your Mother), and Tone Bell (new to the second season of the show). The series is produced by Universal Television and Stuber Television. The executive producers are Scott Stuber, Quan Phung, Wil Calhoun and Barry Katz. Andy Ackerman (Seinfeld) is the director and an EP.

New Classic TV Digital Station Cozi TV Coming January 2013; The Hub Presents Classic Sitcom Halloween Airings
We hinted on our message board earlier this week that a new over the air digital subchannel focusing on classic TV will be launching January 1, and now some info has been reported. The new network will be named Cozi TV and will be from NBCUniversal. It will be replacing digital subchannel Nonstop on the NBC Owned Television Stations. So if you're in the NBC owned markets and have Nonstop, you'll have Cozi TV come January 1. Among the series they will have at launch will include comedies like Burns & Allen, The Lucy Show, Ozzie & Harriet, Red Skelton, Groucho Marx; action dramas like Charlie's Angels, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, Magnum P.I., and classic family and western series like Lassie, The Roy Rogers Show, The Lone Ranger, The Virginian, The Adventures of Kit Carson and Alias Smith and Jones, Marcus Welby, M.D., and Highway to Heaven. A few movies will be featured in the afternoons. Currently, Highway to Heaven has been airing weekdays at 12 noon on Nonstop on all NBC Owned Television Stations, so it will likely remain at 12 noon when Cozi takes over the space on Jan. 1. Nonstop was first launched in New York in March 2009 and then expanded to the other NBC Owned Television Stations in 2010 and 2011. Of the ten markets that NBC owns, nine of them have a Nonstop station, with only the Hartford market not included. Thus, chances of Cozi TV in Hartford are not certain as the other nine markets NBC owns (NY, LA, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Washington DC, Dallas, Miami, and San Diego).
Cozi TV will join the crowded digital subchannel world that includes fellow classic TV stations like Antenna TV, MeTV, THIStv, Bounce TV and RTV. This Halloween The Hub TV Network gets into the 'spirit' with a full lineup of spooky and fun Halloween-themed movies, TV series and specials. The centerpiece of the network's October 31 programming slate is a special two-hour marathon of the award-winning R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour: The Series (4-6pm ET). The marathon showcases four of the scariest episodes from all three seasons of the Hub Original Series, starring popular young Hollywood actors including Rico Rodriguez (Modern Family) and Dakota Goyo (Real Steel). The tricks and treats continue with spine-tingling Halloween-themed episodes of favorite live-action and animated Hub series including The Adventures of Chuck & Friends, Transformers Rescue Bots, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Pound Puppies, and Goosebumps. When darkness sets in, the network's primetime programming schedule will feature super spooky episodes of ALF, Mork & Mindy, The Facts of Life, and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys in primetime.
Fans of the sitcom Sabrina, the Teenage Witch will be treated to a special four-episode Halloween-themed marathon of 'spook-tacular' proportions on Tuesday, October 30 (10am-noon ET) following everyone's favorite witch Sabrina Spellman (Melissa Joan Hart) as a teenager with magical powers living with her two aunts and their magical talking cat Salem. The fun continues on Halloween Day (Wednesday, Oct. 31) from 11am-12pm, as Sabrina creates the event of the year when she rents real monsters from the Other Realm to spice up her Halloween party. And Sabrina takes her friends on the Halloween Mystery Train, but discovers too late that they've boarded the Other Realm Express! In primetime on Halloween night, The Hub presents two back-to-back episodes of ALF, from 8-9pm, which follow the adventures of Gordon Shumway, a furry, wisecracking alien from the planet Melmac who crash lands into the garage of the Tanner family. ALF tries to convince Willie and Kate to let him go trick-or-treating on Halloween, but the Tanners are concerned their neighbors might discover ALF's "natural" costume is not really a disguise at all! And while spying on the neighbors having an argument next door, ALF sees Mr. Ochmonek approach his wife with an ice pick and suspects he’s trying to kill her. Next at 9pm on The Facts of Life, Halloween hysteria sets in when a customer mysteriously disappears and the girls fear that Edna may have ground him into her famous homemade bratwurst. At 9:30pm, Mork and Mindy are in for a spirited Halloween when familiar ghosts from Mindy's past create hilarious havoc in the house.

Casting for New ABC Family Sitcom Pilot; Fox Orders 4th Cycle of Bob's Burgers
Ryan Sypek (Wildfire) and Kate Lang Johnson (Persons Unknown) have been cast in the lead roles of the ABC Family sitcom pilot Phys Ed. The pilot is a half-hour multi-camera comedy about a high school's star jock, Ed (Sypek), who returns to teach at his former alma mater only to find that, even though he's changed, nothing else really has. Johnson will play Janie, a teacher at the school who was ignored by Ed in high school and is now the object of his affections.
The pilot is written and-executive produced by David H. Steinberg (American Pie 2). It is produced by Prodco, Inc. Ryan Sypek is an ABC Family alum, having starred in the network's first original scripted series Wildfire. Now should Phys Ed get picked-up to series, we will let you know...but for now this is just a pilot. This piece of casting follows the casting of a drama pilot, as ABC Family has cast Denise Richards (Two and a Half Men) to star in drama series pilot Socio, as Karen Ryder. Also cast is Kimberly Quinn as Tess. They join the previously announced Avan Jogia as Danny, Maddie Hasson as Jo and Kylie Bunbury as Lacey in the project. The pilot is currently in preproduction. The pilot follows Danny Ryder (Jogia), who has returned to town after serving five years in custody for murdering his aunt when he was 11. Admitting his guilt, but stubbornly refusing to discuss his motive, Danny returns to a hostile reception and a media firestorm. Ostracized by his peers, Danny reconnects with his former best friends Jo (Hasson) and Lacey (Bunbury), who are still struggling to put the past behind them. But when another student is murdered, suspicion falls on Danny and the question remains: Is Danny a serial slayer, a "socio," or is he a victim with a shocking secret?
Richards will portray Karen Ryder, Danny's perfectly coiffed mother who once ruled the town's social scene but who now struggles to put on a brave face with her son returning home under a cloud of scandal and shame. Quinn portrays Jo's mother, Tess, who tries to give Danny the benefit of the doubt and clashes with her husband over his harsh attitude towards the teen.
Fox has ordered a fourth season of 22 all-new episodes of the Emmy-nominated animated comedy Bob's Burgers. The series is currently in its third season, but there are episodes from the second season still airing this season, as only 9 aired last season. So this fourth season cycle order will probably not get to air for another year or two. Bob's Burgers recently was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program as well as for a 2012 Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Animated Series.
This season, Bob's Burgers also serves up holiday cheer with the series' first-ever Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes. In the upcoming Thanksgiving episode, Bob's eccentric landlord, Mr. Fischoeder (guest voice Kevin Kline), invites the Belchers for an unusual Thanksgiving dinner to impress a former flame. In the Christmas episode, Zach Galifianakis guest-voices as a man who is infatuated with a mannequin, and believes he used to be a mannequin himself. Other guest voices this season include Jon Hamm, Jeffrey Tambor, Aziz Ansari, Bill Hader and Sarah and Laura Silverman. Bob's Burgers follows a third-generation restaurateur as he runs his own burger joint with the help of his wife and their three kids. Bob has big ideas about burgers, condiments and sides, but only a few thoughts on customer service and business management. Despite his greasy counters, lousy location and occasionally spotty service, Bob is convinced his burgers speak for themselves. The animated series features the voice talents of H. Jon Benjamin, John Roberts, Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman and Kristen Schaal.

Hallmark Alters Schedule, Brings Sitcoms To Daytime; Knight Rider Now On G4
The Hallmark Channel will be making some schedule changes beginning next week - Monday, Oct. 22, 2012. The changes will be for the daytime line-up, and yes they will be moving some timeslots for its original series. First, the weekday 9am hour will now an encore of daytime talk show Marie, instead of back-to-back Golden Girls. The talk show did not have an encore airing, so now it will, and The Golden Girls will remain in the 8am hour. From 10am-12pm, original series Home & Family will continue to air leading into original episodes of Marie at 12 noon. However from 1-3pm, the encore of Home & Family will be replaced by four episodes of Frasier! Since the 9am hour of The Golden Girls was replaced, Hallmark will move that hour to 3-4pm, replacing The Waltons. And the final change is that The Waltons will also no longer air at 4pm & 5pm, as the Home & Family encore will be moving to this block now. So yes, this means The Waltons will be off the schedule for now.
The rest of the Hallmark Channel line-up will remain intact with Little House from 6-10pm (except NUMB3RS on Mondays from 8-10pm), then Frasier from 10pm-12am, Golden Girls from 12-2am, Cheers from 2-3am, Frasier from 3am-5am, and I Love Lucy still from 5am-8am. But don't forget in November and December, holiday movies will take over for most of the day, so you won't see the regular schedule until January...and that will include the addition of The Brady Bunch! Just a programming note that the classic '80s series Knight Rider is back on cable and is airing on G4, as of Oct. 1. The series starring David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight and William Daniels as the voice KITT, is airing weekdays at 11am & 12pm and again in late night at 3am & 4am. The series was last seen on the digital over the air network Retro TV. The series also briefly aired on TV Land in 2007 and had a better run on Sci-Fi before that.
In this classic '80s NBC series, a former cop gets a new identity and teams with a talking supercar to fight crime after a wealthy benefactor saves his life. The chiseled lead actor had his fans, but the show was truly driven by the sleek, droll automobile KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), a customized Pontiac Trans-Am that kept the hero on the straight and narrow between fistfights and female conquests. A TV-movie reunited man and car in 1991, and a sequel series, Team Knight Rider, ran on ABC in 1997-98. There was also a short-lived revival in 2008 on NBC with Michael Knight's son now as Knight Rider.
Knight Rider is replacing Quantum Leap on the schedule. Other series G4 airs includes Lost, Heroes, Cops and Cheaters.

Good evening...Antenna TV is going to bring you something scary this Halloween, but will stay to its classic TV roots! Antenna TV's "Hitch-O-Ween: Alfred Hitchcock Presents Marathon" will have you on the edge of your seat as the Tribune Broadcasting multicast broadcast network presents a devilishly delightful 27-hour Halloween marathon on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Beginning at 5am ET on Halloween, Antenna TV - which airs on 69 affiliates across the U.S. reaching 61% of TV households - will air "Hitch-O-Ween" a 54-episode/27 hour Alfred Hitchcock Presents marathon.
The familiar "plink, plink" of the theme song, accompanied by the line drawing of a man in profile immediately identifies the show as Alfred Hitchcock Presents. The famed director opens almost every episode with the words "Good evening..." After a joke -- usually about the evening's sponsor -- Hitchcock lays the groundwork for that episode's freestanding story of suspense and terror. The series regularly airs on Antenna TV Mon-Thurs nights at 12:00am & 12:30am ET and a Saturday night block from 11pm-1am ET. As Halloween nears, NBC turns Friday, October 26 into Fright Night when it premieres the pilot of the much-anticipated Mockingbird Lane at 8pm ET -- based on executive producer Bryan Fuller's (Pushing Daisies) script and directed by executive producer Bryan Singer (X-Men film series). Mockingbird Lane is a new reimagined version of the classic 1960s sitcom The Munsters, now as a visually spectacular one-hour drama with a darker edge and tone. The cast includes Jerry O'Connell (Carpoolers, Crossing Jordan) as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi (Arrested Development, Better Off Ted) as his wife Lily, Eddie Izzard (United States of Tara, The Riches) as Grandpa, Mason Cook (Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D) as Eddie and Charity Wakefield (The Raven) as Marilyn. Of course, in the original 1964-66 series The Munsters, the odd but lovable family lived on 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
So what is this "special" about? In Mockingbird Lane, sweet little Eddie Munster (Cook) is a normal kid about to enter the horrors of puberty. Truth is, he's about to discover that for him becoming a teenager means growing hair in truly unexpected places -- as in all over his body -- every time the moon is full! Eddie's got it pretty good though. His loving, supportive, run-of-the-mill family includes his mom Lily (de Rossi), the daughter of Dracula; his dad Herman (O'Connell), who brings new meaning to "Frankenstein"; and Grandpa (Izzard), who would give Dracula a run for his money if he weren't actually Dracula! Of course then there's creepy cousin Marilyn (Wakefield), who's really the odd one because she's so completely normal. Buying a house these days is a nightmare, so Herman and Lily are shocked that no one scooped up the rambling Victorian mansion at 1313 Mockingbird Lane that was the site of a series of grisly hobo murders. Settling into their new place, they're quickly onto the mission at hand: to gently ease Eddie into the reality of his werewolf adolescence. But it's not always so easy to accept that your child is a little "different" from the rest of the kids. Meanwhile, Herman, who works as a funeral director, is suffering from a heart condition. Since he's made up mostly of spare parts, he knew his makeshift heart would eventually give out. No worries though, because Grandpa, who is pretty good at procuring body parts, is on the case. All Herman cares about is finding a new heart with the same capacity to love Lily as much as he has for so many decades.
If this special does well, perhaps NBC will order more episodes and turn this into a series like it did following the success of the Knight Rider movie back in 2008. But if it does get to go to series, let's hope it does better than that series did in the ratings (and creatively). View the promo:

Everything else was OK (such as The Middle, The Neighbors, New Normal) or just plain old terrible (such as Animal Practice, Ben & Kate, Up All Night, 30 Rock).

Week 3 (Oct. 8-14) Analysis: This week saw another debate cause primetime to be messed up on Thursday. Through the first four nights, CBS has the lead in all categories but it is very close, especially in 18-49. ABC is in second in HH/viewers but fourth in 18-49, but only a half a point behind CBS who is #1. NBC is third in HH/viewers, but second in 18-49, but that will change after tonight's NFL game and they could take the week again. They were actually helped out on Thursday as two-hours of the low rated Thursday line-up was preempted for the debate. Fox is in fourth in HH/total viewers and third in 18-49, but it could challenge NBC for the week with an NFL overrun tonight and MLB NLCS Game 1. I expect CBS to take the week in HH/viewers for sure. ABC will likely remain second in HH/viewers, with NBC third and Fox in fourth. Among adults 18-49, we can see some big changes after tonight once again, especially if Fox has a huge NFL overrun tonight. More on that later. As for last week, week 2, NBC won the week again among adults 18-49 thanks to the NFL game. CBS was second, while Fox and ABC trailed. Among total viewers, CBS took that crown again followed by ABC in second. NBC was a close third again, followed by Fox.
Monday started off week three and it was the same as previous two weeks...NBC on top in 18-49 and ABC in total viewers. Starting with ABC, a two-hour Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars did 13.55 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Hopefully it will continue to go up and Paula Abdul will be a guest fourth judge tomorrow night. Competing against The Voice has hurt it. A new episode of Castle followed with a first place 10.61 million and a second place 2.2 18-49 rating, up three tenths in 18-49 from the previous week. Solid. For NBC, a two-hour The Voice, which is in week five actually, did 12.89 million and a night best 4.8 18-49 rating, up again two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. At 10pm, week four of Revolution did well for NBC with a third place 8.01 million but a first place 3.0 18-49 rating, but again down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. It's been picked up for a full season, though. Next up was CBS with its comedies and the slumping Hawaii Five-0. How I Met Your Mother started it off with 7.82 million and a 3.1 18-49 rating, down two tenths from previous week. Week three of Partners followed with just 5.71 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, also down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Not good for a CBS Monday comedy! If it goes any lower, it will be gone I think. Then it was 2 Broke Girls at 9pm doing 9.42 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Not as strong as the previous CBS Monday 9pm anchors, is it? A new Mike & Molly followed with 8.67 million and a 2.8 18-49 rating, also down a tenth in 18-49 week-to-week. A new Hawaii Five-0 was next doing a second place 8.39 million but a third place 1.9 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Fox was next with week four of Bones doing 7.2 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating at 8pm, down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Is this show quietly dying? Then the fourth episode of The Mob Doctor did only 3.36 million and 0.9 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from premiere week. Fox says they will air all 13 episodes, which is very strange. It will not get any more than those 13 episodes obviously. The CW aired season premieres, with 90120 starting it off with just 940,000 viewers and a 0.4 18-49 rating. Ouch! And Gossip Girl followed with just 780,000 viewers and a 0.4 18-49 rating. Time for these to go already! Horrible.
On Tuesday, it was CBS with the victory in total viewers but NBC sneaked by for an 18-49 win. CBS had the always reliable NCIS opening the night off with 18.51 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating, down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. It has gone down seven tenths though since its season premiere, concerning, but still solid. A new NCIS: Los Angeles was next and did 15.18 million and 3.0 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. And finally CBS aired week three of new series Vegas and did 11.78 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, on par in 18-49 from previous week, but had to settle for a tie for first place at 10. ABC was next with a special Dancing with the Stars All-Stars recap episode doing 8.25 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, down a tenth from previous week's episode. The live Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars: The Results followed with 13.33 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. CBS has a new Amazing Race following 60 Minutes, and The Good Wife at 9pm leading into The Mentalist at 10pm. Looks like a fourth place finish with no NFL overrun. Fox preempts its animation block for MLB NLCS Game #1 following a NFL overrun. Should be good for #2 for the night?

- Partners (CBS) - Week three of this freshman sitcom did just 5.71 million a 1.9 18-49 rating, also down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. It has gone below a 2.0 18-49 rating, so look out, especially if it drops tomorrow night. If it does, goodbye.
- 2 Broke Girls (CBS) - 9.42 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating is solid but down a tenth in 18-49 from its previous week. Again...was it too early for this series to be moved to an anchor spot? I really think it was.
- Mike & Molly (CBS) - The third episode of the season did 8.67 million and a 2.8 18-49 rating, also down a tenth in 18-49 from the previous week. Look for CBS to be preempted in San Diego tomorrow for the NFL game, but only the 8pm hour will be preempted, as the 9pm hour will get a boost in San Diego following NFL action.

Still very very disappointing for the comedy that was pretty much a given to do well out of New Girl. Yet, Fox picked-up the back nine...so you'll see this show for the rest of the season. I think it was too early to pick it up.

Digital Digest: The Courtship of Eddie's Father Now Available on DVD; Perry Mason - Season 7, Volume 2 DVD Review
Welcome to Digital Digest! This week, we've got (after our regular news, of course) a review of Perry Mason - Season 7, Volume 2. Let's get going!
DIGITAL NEWS
It has been a slow news week, but Warner Archive has put a little zest in that with a few new releases that were made available on Tuesday. First up comes The Courtship of Eddie's Father - The Complete Second Season. The three disc set includes all 24 episodes of the second season of the classic series starring Bill Bixby as a widower raising a young son.
Warner Archive is also busy with releases of The Flintstones, as they began selling The Flintstones - Prime-Time Specials Collection, Volume 1, The Flintstones - Prime-Time Specials Collection, Volume 2, The Flintstones - I Yabba Dabba Do, and The Flintstones - Hollyrock-a-Bye Baby. All of that should "yabba dabba do" a lot for fans of the modern stone age family!
Hulu and Viacom announced an expansion in their partnership this week. Unfortunately, this won't have much of an effect for the free Hulu customers, but for those subscribing to Hulu Plus, the new agreement will bring new content from Viacom cable networks to the streaming service after they originally air. For now, this deal focuses on Nickelodeon, which has essentially nothing for us to really cover here, but it will also include other networks, particularly TV Land, as it expands over the next few months. Most likely, this means that we'll see some of the TV Land original sitcoms appear on the service. When we know more, we'll let you know what we find out.

UPCOMING WEEK PREVIEW
Tuesday (October 16) is a day of "completeness," as many complete series releases hit store shelves. These begin with Cagney & Lacey - The Complete Series. There seems to be a bit of confusion regarding the release of this set, however, as amazon.com and amazon.ca both show it shipping in November, but press materials (as of the past few days) have all indicated a release on Tuesday. In any event, a better bet may be to order it directly from the official website, where you can get the deluxe version of the set (which includes all of the "lost" episodes). The website indicates you'll be able to order from there this weekend. A more affirmative complete series release on Tuesday is Universal's release of Columbo - The Complete Series. And Acorn Media has the "supersized" The Red Green Show - The Complete Series DVD set, a 50 disc set containing every episode of the series.
Of course, if you only want to spend a few bucks, there are some smaller sets on Tuesday as well. Fans of The Office can enjoy some Christmas parties with The Office - Secret Santa Pack, a single disc release containing four episodes of the series. Mill Creek takes That '70s Show into high definition with That '70s Show - Season Two (Blu-ray). And finally, Shout! Factory moves a season ahead with a classic '80s detective drama with their Shout! Select release of Simon & Simon - Season Seven.

DVD Review: Perry Mason - Season 7, Volume 2 (CBS, $55.98)

More order comes to the court as the seventh season of the classic crime drama Perry Mason makes it onto DVD! The series stars Raymond Burr in his most memorable television role ever, as the defense attorney who can take virtually any case where the evidence almost completely suggests that the accused actually is guilty. But Mason? That never deterred him, and he would always (well, most of the time, anyway) win despite the odds
The set begins with "The Case of the Ice-Cold Hands," where Perry's seemingly ordinary day of holding horse race tickets turns into a murder in the winner's circle. An author creates an over-controlling stepmother in her latest novel in "The Case of the Bountiful Beauty," but what will happen when her boyfriend's similar step-mother turns up dead? A woman is accused of killing her husband in "The Case of the Nervous Neighbor," but an occurrence of amnesia may complicate her case. An ex-boyfriend is accused of murder after a woman's husband is murdered in "The Case of the Fifty Millionth Frenchman." In "The Case of the Frightened Fisherman," a dispute between a chemist and his boss gets even more complicated when the chemist's wife sides with his boss, and, oh yeah, turns up dead. A reporter accuses a fire chief of arson in "The Case of the Arrogant Arsonist." In "The Case of the Garrulous Go-Between," a woman's visit to a fortune teller tells her more than she'd like to know. A housekeeper is convinced that her boss is trying to kill his wife in "The Case of the Woeful Widower."
Perry's involvement in a search for a missing son given up for adoption becomes much more complicated in "The Case of the Simple Simon." In "The Case of the Illicit Illusion," Perry defends a woman accused of killing her husband's business associate. A man is pretty sure that he has found his presumed dead wife outside of a hotel in "The Case of the Antic Angel," but when she denies it and later turns up dead, who do you think will be blamed? Perry's latest case involves a fake kidnapping, a real blackmail scheme, and of course murder in "The Case of the Careless Kidnapper." A college dropout is accused of killing his ex-boss in "The Case of the Drifting Dropout." In "The Case of the Tandem Target," a man faces two attempts on his life, and he survives one... but in the other, his stepdaughter's boyfriend is now the accused. The season ends with "The Case of the Ugly Duckling," where a heiress must marry within a year to inherit her family toy store, and her controlling uncle demands that she marry somebody immediately. Unsurprisingly, somebody turns up dead here, and somebody is accused of that murder.

On the cover, there is another large color photo of Perry, along with several photos of other cast members on top. On the back, there are some black and white cast photos, along with a description of the season. Inside the case (a standard Viva case, unsurprisingly), you'll find the four discs, which really don't have any artwork, and just have the series title on a gray background. Episode titles are printed on the disc, but there are also descriptions and airdates inside the case.
The menus on this set are pretty basic, but they get the job done without any real problems. The main menu has a still photo of Perry on it, and all of the episodes are listed. There is also a Play All and Subtitles option. Everything does exactly what it sounds like it should do. There are no special effects, no animated transitions, no music... just plain and functional menus (though on the positive side, this does mean that the menus are very quick). Each episode has eight well-placed chapters placed throughout the episode.
The video and audio quality of the episodes is top-notch for a series this old. I think that this series could truly shine on Blu-ray, but with nine seasons already being divided up into two sets per season, I'm not sure that a Blu-ray release would be feasible. There are a few defects such as grain and debris, but it probably won't bother most people. The audio is a (predictably) mono track, but it sounds wonderful for what it is, with little crackle in it. Each episode has English subtitles.
Special features? Not a single one. The previous 13 season releases didn't have any, so it isn't surprising that the fourteenth release doesn't either.

It really is amazing how such a predictable show can still be fun to watch on DVD. There really wasn't any other series as successful as this one in all of TV history which was as predictable and formulaic as this one, yet is still enjoyable. Even though you always know how every episode is going to end, the fun is in watching how the details will bring that win to Mason's client, which are often unusual in each and every episode. I just wish that the DVDs were less predictable on special features. With four more releases of this series to go (and one is coming up in just a few short months), I'm expecting more of the same, but at least every episode (in my opinion, at least) was consistently good from beginning to end. So our evidence demonstrates, beyond a reasonable doubt, that we've got another solid set of episodes with great video and audio quality... just nothing too special beyond the great episodes.

But Andrea Barber "retired" from acting very early on... before she was even able to celebrate cast parties with alcohol (although many Full House fans will remember that "very special episode" where Kimmy got drunk at the fraternity party!). Instead of taking the gamble of having adult success in the entertainment industry, Barber decided to create a new path for success in life outside of the entertainment world. But the best part? She is not at all reclusive about her past, and is proud of the work that she did as America's most obnoxious neighbor, and loves to keep in touch with her fans in ways that she could not have possibly done in the late '80s. And with nearly 50,000 followers on Twitter, it is very obvious that she doesn't have a shortage of fans at all. Just be warned, though, that you'll have to deal with a lot of New Kids on the Block Tweets, which brings us to...

Bewitched Comes to Logo Starting Oct. 14; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of October 15, 2012)
Bewitched is coming to Logo TV starting this Sunday (Oct. 14, 2012) and it will be serving up some Sunday vintage realness. The enchanting classic sitcom Bewitched will be casting its magic all-day on Logo TV starting at 11am ET through 10pm ET. Darrin Stephens and his enchanted witch... we mean wife... will be stirring the pot and getting up to all sorts of shenanigans. Bubble, Bubble, toil and trouble being married to a witch can be pretty wonderful. The enduring sitcom will air a marathon on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 11am-10pm ET as we mentioned, but it will also air in different blocks after that. You'll have to keep checking your listings, as it will not be on for a set schedule. The schedule for the rest of the month includes: Wednesday, Oct. 17 7pm-10pm & 1:30am-3am; Saturday, Oct. 20 10:30am-3pm; Sunday, Oct. 21 2am-6am; Tuesday, Oct. 23 12am-2am; Friday, Oct. 26 10am-12:30pm; Saturday, Oct. 27 6am-10am; and Wednesday, Oct. 31 12:30am-2am. Logo TV will be airing seasons 5-8, it seems. Bewitched has not aired on cable since it left TV Land at the end of 2011. The sitcom was also on WGN America. On Logo TV, Bewitched will join series such as Nip/Tuck and Buffy he Vampire Slayer on the line-up.
Bewitched stars Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha Stephens, a beautiful witch who marries a mortal named Darrin, an advertising executive, played by Dick York in the first five seasons. In the sixth season and for the remainder of the series, Dick York is replaced by Dick Sargent. Samantha attempts to lead the life of a typical, suburban housewife, but she's continually tempted to use her witchcraft. With a twitch of her nose, she can instantly clean a kitchen, change outfits and make people appear or disappear. Darrin struggles to get ahead in business and cope with his disapproving mother-in-law. Endora, played by Agnes Moorehead, schemes to eliminate Darrin from her daughter's life and refuses to call him by his real name, preferring Durwood, Dum-Dum or anything else. Gladys Kravitz, the ultimate nosy neighbor, is always peeking through her window, hoping to prove that something strange is going on at the Stephens house. Of course she's right, but she never catches any of the witches, warlocks or other colorful characters who parade in and out.

Remembering Webster's Alex Karras; First Cancelation of Fall 2012: CBS Drama Made in Jersey
Actor and former NFL player Alex Karras, who starred as George Papadapolis in Webster, has died. Karras died at his Los Angeles, California home in the morning hours on October 10 of complications from kidney failure. He had suffered from a variety of health problems in recent years, including dementia, heart disease and stomach cancer. Mr. Karras was 77.
Karras' acting career begain in 1968 when he played himself in the film adaptation of Paper Lion. He made many television guest appearances in series such as Daniel Boone, Love American, Style, The Odd Couple, McMillian & Wife and M*A*S*H. In 1974, he played thug Mongo in the Mel Brooks' comedy film Blazing Saddles. His character knocks out a horse with a single punch in a memorable scene. He played Hans Brumbaugh in the 1978-1979 NBC miniseries Centennial. Karras' television movie credits included Hardcase, The 500 Pound Jerk, Babe (a 1975 biopic where he met his wife Susan Clark), Mad Bull, Jimmy B. & André, Alcatraz: The Whole Shocking Story, Masada and Made in America. His theatrical film credits included Victor Victoria, Porky's and Against All Odds.
Karras played the lovable George Papadapolis, a former professional football player turned sportscaster, in the hit sitcom Webster. The series was about a couple who adopts a recently orphaned 7-year-old child named Webster. Karras starred with his real-life wife Susan Clark and Emmanuel Lewis. ABC aired the series for four seasons from 1983-1987 before it moved into first-run syndication for the final two seasons from 1987-1989. A total of 150 episodes were produced. Karras and Clark were among the producers of the series through their Georgian Bay Entertainment production company.
He played college football at the University of Iowa from 1956-1957. Karras was a first team All-American in 1956. In 1957, he helped his team win the Rose Bowl and received the Outland Trophy for the best interior lineman. He finished as the runner-up in voting for the Heisman Trophy. The Detroit Lions drafted him 10th overall in the first round of the NFL draft in 1958. He was one of the most dominant defensive tackles in the league during his 12 seasons in the league from 1958-1962 and 1964-1970. Karras was named to Pro Bowl team four times in 1959, 1960, 1961 and 1965. He was also named to the 1960s All-Decade NFL team. Following the end of his career, he later worked on ABC's Monday Night Football broadcast team with Howard Cosell and Frank Gifford for three seasons from 1974-1976.
Karras' survivors include his wife, Susan Clark; his sons George, Alex Jr. and Peter; and daughter, Katie. He was a talented man on and off the field. While he was one of the most fearsome players in football, he was a gentle giant on screen as an actor. We loved his work on Webster. It's very sad that he had dealt with so many health problems in recent years. He will be greatly missed.

CBS has pulled its new Friday drama Made in Jersey after just two airings. This is the first official cancelation of the 2012-13 season. The drama only mustered a 0.8 adults 18-49 rating last Friday in week two, after premiering to just a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating the week prior. CBS will move CSI: NY to the hour effective immediately this Friday (Oct. 12). CSI: NY was airing in the 8pm hour and also was struggling. Drama repeats will air for the next three weeks at 8pm (NCIS on Oct. 12 and 26 and Hawaii Five-0 on Oct. 19). CBS will launch the new season of Undercover Boss on Friday, Nov. 2 at 8pm. It will be opposite Kitchen Nightmares on Fox in terms of reality, as ABC's Shark Tank will be moving to 9pm on that night.
No word if CBS will air the remaining episodes that were already in the can. It is not known how many were completed in production.
