Emmy Awards to Create Special Moments; Ricky Gervais Netflix Animated Comedy Alley Cats Coming in 2026

CBS and the Television Academy announced the special segments and performances for the 77th Emmy(R) Awards, broadcasting live to both coasts from the Peacock Theater, Sunday, September 14, (8:00-11:00 PM, LIVE ET/5:00-8:00 PM, LIVE PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+.

Hosting this year's ceremony, Grammy(R)-nominated comedian Nate Bargatze appeared at the red carpet rollout alongside executive producers Jesse Collins and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay, as well as Television Academy chair Cris Abrego. The event featured CBS' iconic Comfy Blue Sofa, setting the stage for television's most anticipated night of celebration.

· The special show moments celebrating the anniversaries of some famous past and present television shows with re-creations of their iconic sets include:
· GILMORE GIRLS: 25th Anniversary set reveal with Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham
· SURVIVOR: Jeff Probst 50th season moment
· GOLDEN GIRLS: Reba McEntire, Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the show by singing the show's theme song on a re-creation of its iconic kitchen set.

· The broadcast will also honor additional milestones and feature an in memoriam performance:
· LAW AND ORDER 35th anniversary with key cast members Mariska Hargitay, Tony Goldwyn and Christopher Meloni joined by others from the many L&O franchises.

Netflix announced that Alley Cats, a brand new original adult animated comedy series, from Emmy and BAFTA award-winning creator Ricky Gervais (After Life, Extras, The Office) will debut on Netflix in 2026. 6 quarter hour episodes are ordered.

The series boasts a cast that includes Ricky Gervais, Tom Basden, Andrew Brooke, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, Diane Morgan, and also featuring Natalie Cassidy and Tony Way. The series follows the trials and tribulations of a group of feral British cats who seek companionship while ruminating about the struggles of everyday life, and features a bold 2D animation style being produced at the UK-based award-winning Blink Industries.

Remembering Polly Holliday of Alice and Flo; Prime Video's Overcompensating Renewed for Season 2

Actress Polly Holliday, who starred as Florence Jean "Flo" Castleberry in Alice and Flo, has died. She died from an apparent bout of pneumonia at her home in Manhattan, New York City, on September 9. Ms. Holliday was 88.

Holliday starred as Florence Jean "Flo" Castleberry in the CBS sitcom Alice from 1976 to 1980. The show stars Linda Lavin as Alice Hyatt, a widow who moves with her young son to start life over again and finds a job working at a roadside diner in Phoenix, Arizona. Flo is a sassy, man-hungry waitress at Mel's Diner. Her character's catchphrase of "kiss my grits!" remains the most memorable line associated with the series. "When donkeys fly!" was one of her other catchphrases.

She won two Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actress - Series, Miniseries or Television Film in 1979 and 1980. She received three Emmy nominations for Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1978, 1979 and 1980. The season 1-4 cast included Vic Tayback, Beth Howland, and Philip McKeon. Diane Ladd joined the cast in 1980 as Isabelle "Belle" Dupree, a hard-edged but kind-hearted woman. Recurring cast members included Marvin Kaplan (1977-1985), Dave Madden (1978-1985), Martha Raye (1978-1984), Duane R. Campbell (1978-1985), and Alan Haufrect (1978-1980).

Holliday left the show to star in her own spin-off series Flo, which aired on CBS for two seasons from 1980 to 1981. She reprised her role as sassy and street-smart waitress Florence Jean "Flo" Castleberry who returns to her hometown of Fort Worth, Texas—referred to as "Cowtown"—and becomes the proprietor of a rundown old roadhouse that she renames "Flo's Yellow Rose". The cast included Geoffrey Lewis, Jim B. Baker, Sudie Bond, Lucy Lee Flippin, Joyce Bulifant, Leo Burmester, Stephen Keep, George Flower, Mickey Jones, and Terry Willis (1980).

She joined the cast of the CBS sitcom Private Benjamin in the third season (1982-1983) as a temporary replacement for series regular Eileen Brennan (Cpt. Doreen Lewis), who was recovering from serious injuries after being struck by a car. She appeared as Cpt. Amanda Allan in three episodes before the series was canceled. The series was based on and set during the events of the 1980 movie of the same name.

Holliday had a recurring role as Lillian Patterson, Jill Taylor's (Patricia Richardson) mother, in five episodes of Home Improvement from 1993 to 1999. She starred as Captain Betty in the pilot episode of the CBS sitcom Stir Crazy in 1985. She played Lily, Rose Nylund's (Betty White) blind sister, in the episode "Blind Ambitions" of The Golden Girls in 1986.

She appeared as Prison Inmate Leader in six episodes of the CBS soap opera Search for Tomorrow in 1974. Some of her other television guest appearances included NBC Special Treat, American Playhouse, Amazing Stories (1986), The Equalizer (1988), and Homicide: Life on the Street. She starred as Momma Love, the mother of Reggie Love (JoBeth Williams), in the 1995-1996 CBS legal thriller drama The Client (also referred to as John Grisham's The Client).

Holliday starred as Mrs. Ruby Deagle in the 1984 black comedy horor film Gremlins (1984). She won the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 1984. She starred as Gloria Chaney, Daniel Hillard's (Robin Williams) nosy neighbor, in Mrs. Doubtfire (1993). She starred as Marva Kulp Sr., the owner and director of Camp Walden, in The Parent Trap (1998). Her final credit was in the 2010 film Fair Game, in which she played Diane Plame, the mother of Valerie Plame.

Ms. Holliday was funny and memorable as Flo in Alice and Flo. Her "kiss my grits!" line was originally written as "kiss my honeydew!", but it didn't get any laughs. It became a widespread, iconic catchphrase of the era. She was the last surviving member of the original cast of Alice. We thank her for the laughs and entertainment that she brought us during her career. She will be deeply missed.

Prime Video has ordered a second season of Benito Skinner's Overcompensating from Amazon MGM Studios, A24 and Strong Baby. Skinner will return to write, star, and executive produce.

The series is a college-set ensemble comedy about the chaotic journey of Benny (Skinner), a closeted former football player and homecoming king, as he becomes fast friends with Carmen, an outsider on a mission to fit in at all costs. Deeply funny and personal, the show explores the lengths to which we all overcompensate while finding out who we really are.

Netflix Renews Leanne for Season 2; Hazbin Hotel Returns October 29

Netflix announced the hit comedy series Leanne was renewed for a second season. The multi-cam comedy debuted on Netflix's Global Top 10 and has received rave reviews by the critics.

Leanne's (Leanne Morgan) world is turned upside down when her husband of 33 years unexpectedly leaves her for another woman. Supported by her family, including her ride-or-die sister Carol (Kristen Johnston), Leanne learns to embrace the chaos and finds strength, laughter and hope in the most unexpected places. This heartfelt comedy proves that it's never too late to rewrite your story.

Leanne is co-created and executive produced by Susan McMartin, Chuck Lorre, and Leanne Morgan. Nick Bakay and Judi Marmel also serve as executive producers. The series stars Leanne Morgan, Kristen Johnston, Celia Weston, Blake Clark, Ryan Stiles, Graham Rogers and Hannah Pilkes.

War is coming to Hell in Prime Video's teaser trailer for Season Two of the hit adult animated musical series, Hazbin Hotel. The trailer teases Vox's dark rise to power against Charlie Morningstar and her hotel's mission. The second season of Hazbin Hotel, premiering October 29, consists of eight episodes, with two episodes rolling out weekly through November 19. The series will be available on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Additionally, Seasons One and Two of Helluva Boss, the second series in the Hellaverse universe, along with a new original episode titled, "Mission: Zero," will be available on Prime Video on September 10.

Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination imposed by angels, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be "checking out" into Heaven. While most of Hell mocks her goal, her devoted partner Vaggie, and their first test subject, adult-film star Angel Dust, stick by her side. When a powerful entity known as the "Radio Demon" reaches out to assist Charlie in her endeavors, her crazy dream is given a chance to become a reality.

HBO Comedy The Chair Company; Trailer for Disney's Vampirina: Teenage Vampire

The HBO Original comedy series The Chair Company, created by Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, will debut Sunday, October 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. New episodes of the eight-episode season will debut weekly leading up to the season finale on Sunday, November 30.

After an embarrassing incident at work, a man (Robinson) finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy. In addition to Tim Robinson as William Ronald Trosper, series regulars include Lake Bell as Barb Trosper, Sophia Lillis as Natalie Trosper, Will Price as Seth Trosper, and Joseph Tudisco as Mike Santini. Lou Diamond Phillips recurs as Jeff Levjman.

Disney Branded Television revealed the official trailer and poster for the upcoming original series Vampirina: Teenage Vampire. The music-driven series premieres on Disney Channel September 12, with all episodes streaming October 15 on Disney+ and Disney Channel On Demand.

Vampirina: Teenage Vampire tells the story of a tween vampire girl who leaves the safety of Transylvania to attend a performing arts boarding school. Living amongst humans for the first time, she pursues her passion for music while keeping her vampire identity a secret, something that’s made more challenging when her overprotective father charges an overzealous ghost to live with her at the school. Vampirina, or “Vee,” is an already beloved character from the popular book saga and the record-breaking Disney Jr. series. Vampirina: Teenage Vampire is the first live-action portrayal.

Cast: The main cast is completed by Kenzi Richardson as the edgy and adorable Vee; Jiwon Lee as Sophie, Vee’s kind and girly-girl roommate; Shaun Dixon as the intriguing and laid-back Elijah; Milo Maharlika as the 600-year-old ghost, Demi; and Faith Hedley as Britney, a super-talented legacy student. The Paper Renewed for Season 2, NYC Event on Tuesday; Final Season of Bel-Air

Peacock has ordered a second season of new comedy series The Paper. The series premiered on Peacock last Thursday, Sept. 4. In the tradition of The Office, which is one of the most binged series of all time, The Paper dropped all 10 episodes at once so fans can enjoy the entirety of the show at their convenience.

The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch in the Emmy Award-winning series The Office find a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it. Starring Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, and Oscar Nuñez.

Peacock is turning the streets of New York into a love letter to local newspapers in celebration of The Paper. On Tuesday, September 9, the plaza at Rockefeller Center and Flatiron Plaza will transform into immersive, pop-up newsstands inspired by The Toledo Truth Teller, the fictional Midwestern paper at the heart of the series. Guests are invited to embrace the magic of newspapers with a towering "Tower of Truth" installation, a special appearance from star Oscar Nuñez (Oscar Martinez), and complimentary PopUp Bagels to enjoy as they take a bite out of the morning news (please note bagels are first come, first served).

The fourth and final season of the hit Peacock series Bel-Air will premiere on Monday, November 24.

In season four of Peacock's Bel-Air, Will tries to balance the fun and excitement of senior year with the expectations that have brought him to this moment. Carlton tests his own resolve as he deals with the fallout of some very big decisions that could threaten his future. Together, both boys will help each other through this pivotal time in their lives. An unexpected power shift will threaten the brotherhood between Phil and Geoffrey, whose loyalties to the Banks family will be tested. Crutch Premieres November 3 on Paramount+; Trailer for Season 2 of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place

Paramount+ announced that the new original comedy series Crutch, starring Tracy Morgan, will premiere on Monday, November 3. Produced by CBS Studios, all eight episodes of the series will be available to stream exclusively on Paramount+ at launch.

Set in the world of the CBS Original Comedy The Neighborhood, Crutch centers on its titular character Francois "Frank" Crutchfield (Morgan), who goes by "Crutch," a brash, yet beloved Harlem shop owner whose world is turned upside down when his highbrow son and free-spirited daughter move back into the family home.

Crutch also stars Jermaine Fowler (Superior Donuts), Tony Award winner Kecia Lewis (Hell's Kitchen), Adrianna Mitchell (Snowfall), Adrian Martinez (The Amateur), Braxton Paul (Sesame Street) and Finn Maloney (Suncoast).

In a special event within The Neighborhood universe, Morgan will also guest star as "Crutch" in an all-new episode of the hit CBS comedy The Neighborhood, airing the same night, Monday, November 3 (8:00 - 8:30 PM ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ Premium plan subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs).

"Welcome to Family Value" - Calvin (Cedric The Entertainer) reaches out to his cousin Crutch (Tracy Morgan) to get Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney) a sweet deal on a new floor. However, Crutch insists on coming to L.A. to oversee the work himself, where he drives Tina (Tichina Arnold) crazy — and reveals an emotional vulnerability.

The official trailer for Season 2 of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, the continuation of the Emmy® Award-winning Wizards of Waverly Place, was revealed. In the trailer, audiences get a look at the spellbinding new season — packed with humor, heart and a little bit of danger. Keen-eyed fans also get a sneak peek at the guest cast, including executive producer Selena Gomez, ZOMBIES 4: Dawn of the Vampires star Freya Skye, Bill Chott, Sean Whalen and Amanda Tepe.

Season 2 Synopsis: Billie grapples with the fact that being part of the Russo family might be more complicated than she thought — especially now that she's not the only wizard in the house. Thanks to Roman and Milo’s new magical powers, Justin is now tasked with training three young wizards for the Family Wizard Competition. As the stakes rise inside and outside the family, a mysterious new threat emerges, one that could unravel the Russos forever.

Live Staged Reading of Three's Company Episode; Freeform Acquires According to Jim for October

On September 12, 2025, join The John Ritter Foundation For Aortic Health on their LIVESTREAM of a live staged reading of a Three's Company episode (Season 7 episode "Going to Pot" from 2/1/83). Laugh. Give. Impact.

This year's gala will showcase a special livestreamed staged reading of Three's Company, featuring original cast members Richard Kline and Priscilla Barnes playing their own characters Larry & Terri, alongside an all-star lineup: Adam Devine as Jack Tripper, Kaley Cuoco as Janet Wood, Jason Alexander as Mr. Furley, Tom Bergeron will narrate, with guest stars Steven Weber, Ron Funches, Reno Wilson, and Holly Robinson Peete.

Pluto TV is set as the exclusive media partner, hosting the on-demand release at a later date. The gala is set for September 12 at the Sunset Room in Hollywood. In addition, Pluto TV, which has a linear channel dedicated to 24/7 episodes of Three's Company, will air a marathon of Three's Company episodes in Ritter's honor.

According to Jim will air throughout the Freeform schedule starting on Wednesday, October 1. Moslty weekday mornings between 10:30am-12pm on most days and in late night from 12am-2am ET. The sitcom joins Boy Meets World on the schedule, which airs in the morning. According to Jim ran for eight seasons from 2001-2009 on ABC starring Jim Belushi. It has been in broadcast syndication and also on TBS on cable in the past. Currently it also airs on diginet Laff TV since 2019.

Belushi plays an easy-going suburban Chicago father who often finds himself in challenging situations due to his slacker ways. He is frequently at odds with his wife, Cheryl, played by Courtney Thorne-Smith, and together they raise their three children, with twins being born in the seventh season to make it a party of five. Cheryl's brother, Andy (Larry Joe Campbell), is Jim's partner-in-crime, while Kimberly Williams-Paisley plays Cheryl's sister and best friend.

Hulu has debuted the official trailer and key art for the Original series Chad Powers. Hulu's new six-episode comedy series starring Glen Powell will premiere September 30 with two episodes. New episodes stream weekly on Tuesdays.

HBO's Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television; Adult Swim Slates Two Series for October

The HBO Original two-part documentary Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television, from Issa Rae's HOORAE Media and Ark Media, a film by Giselle Bailey; directed and produced by Giselle Bailey (HBO's The Legend of the Underground) and Phil Bertelsen (Who Killed Malcolm X?), debuts Tuesday, September 9 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, followed by part two airing Wednesday, September 10 at the same time. Both parts will be available to stream on HBO Max beginning Tuesday, September 9 at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television takes audiences on a two-part journey through the history of Black representation on television, showcasing how Black artists and creators both shaped and revolutionized the medium while confronting the systemic challenges that have often undermined their contributions. From early stereotypical portrayals to today’s more authentic and complex narratives, the series highlights how Black television makers have not only survived but thrived, despite the industry’s early reluctance to fully recognize their power and creativity.

Through archival footage and interviews with major figures in the television industry and culture shapers, the documentary spotlights the trailblazers who paved the way, exploring complex narratives around race, identity, and cultural legacy. As each generation of Black television actors, writers, and creators built on the work of those before them, each voice became part of a lineage — responding to, reimagining, and reshaping Black storytelling on screen. Black writers and actors speak to their struggle for creative control, moving from token representation to truer, more complex portrayals and authorship. Black television has been, and continues to be, a ground-breaking force in the media, shaping culture, challenging norms, and redefining representation. The documentary also explores the business of Black television, its changing role in the media landscape, and its complex relationship to broader industry success. Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television showcases a reclamation of narrative power, a celebration of the past, and an illumination of a new generation of voices shaping the future of television.

Part One: SEEN Debut date: Tuesday, September 9 (9:00-10:14 p.m. ET/PT) Part One, SEEN, details decades of cultural shifts in television, with prominent Black voices sharing stories of their journeys, inspirations, and insights into their work and the industry. Historically, Black television was shaped by white writers and creators, from Amos 'n' Andy to wildly popular shows including The Jeffersons and Good Times. While Black characters were becoming increasingly visible on screen, their stories were not always written with authenticity or complexity. A rise in shows by Black creators brought social issues including the AIDS crisis, homosexuality, and racial protests to the forefront, and Black television went beyond merely reflecting culture – it began to create it. In Living Color and The Arsenio Hall Show gave an unprecedented national platform to hip-hop and Black comedians, driving discourse and reframing the cultural landscape. Despite a host of shows with Black creators and crews that built audiences and boosted ratings, by the end of the 1990s and into the early 2000s, many popular Black shows were cancelled and a new slate of programming featuring all white casts emerged.

Part Two: HEARD Debut date: Wednesday, September 10 (9:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT) Part Two, HEARD, addresses ownership of the narrative, highlighting the need for opportunity at every level – including showrunners, editors, cinematographers, and writers. The responsibility and power of storytelling is demonstrated in Shonda Rhimes' color-blind casting for her powerhouse shows, Oprah betting on herself and owning her own content and vision, and other stories depicting the breath of the Black experience, such as scenes of the Tulsa massacre from HBO’s Watchmen, that underscored the importance of showing Black history authentically. HEARD also explores the rise of social media, enabling artists to own their own image, propelling creators like Issa Rae to success, and showcases how creators pay it forward. Lena Waithe’s mentorship lab reflects that mission – to open doors for the next generation and ensure that those telling Black stories reflect the full spectrum of the Black experience. With ownership of media companies, newspapers, and intellectual property, Black creators shape perception and policy while honoring the full scope of their history in all its paradoxes and complexities.

The series features a roster of media icons such as Issa Rae, Shonda Rhimes, Tyler Perry, Lena Waithe, Oprah Winfrey, Tracee Ellis Ross, Ava DuVernay, Norman Lear, Swizz Beatz, Debbie Allen, Kenya Barris, Cord Jefferson, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Mara Brock Akil, Byron Allen, Deondray Gossfield, Quincy Gossfield, Terence Nance, Syreeta Singleton, Tamera Mowry-Housley, and more.

Hulu's Deli Boys Renewed for Season 2 with Fred Armisen; HBO's I Love LA Premieres November 2

Onyx Collective and 20th Television announced that the critically acclaimed Hulu Original comedy series Deli Boys has been renewed for a second season. Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live, Wednesday) will join the sophomore season as a series regular, alongside Asif Ali, Saagar Shaikh and Poorna Jagannathan.

Deli Boys follows a pair of pampered Pakistani American brothers who lose everything and are forced to reckon with their Baba’s secret life of crime as they attempt to take up his mantle in the underworld. Armisen is set to play a legendary gambling savant with an uncanny ability to read people like cards. His casino empire is global, but his crown jewel is in Philly. He is uniquely brilliant and deeply unhinged — a deadly combo if you cross him.

English Teacher Returns on FX for Season 2; Jesse Williams Prime Video Series Trailer

FX has announced that season 2 of English Teacher will premiere its first three episodes back-to-back on September 25. They will stream the next day on Hulu.

Brian Jordan Alvarez created and stars as Evan Marquez in the series about an English teacher navigating high school and political dynamics in Austin, Texas. Also returning for season 2 are Stephanie Koenig as Gwen, Sean Patton as Markie, Carmen Christopher as guidance counselor Rick and Enrico Colantoni as principal Grant Moretti.

This season, Evan refuses to stay quiet when controversy arises at Morrison-Hensley High. The gang finds themselves in the crosshairs of issues including climate change, Covid, military recruitment and student phone usage. Evan is also still struggling to keep his relationship with Malcom, played by Jordan Firstman, separate from his work life. Although Malcolm no longer works at Morrison-Hensley, Evan’s excessive righteousness at school takes an increasing toll on his romantic life.

Prime Video unveiled the official trailer and key art for Hotel Costiera, the new Original series starring Jesse Williams, which will debut with all six episodes on September 24 exclusively on Prime Video in the United States, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Turkey, Norway, Denmark, Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Filmed in Italy, Hotel Costiera is a clever action-drama directed by Emmy Award winner Adam Bernstein and by Giacomo Martelli. Doc Season 2 Trailer for Fox; Remembering David Ketchum and Jerry Adler

Inspired by a true story and based on the hit eponymous Italian drama series, Doc begins its second season of the life-affirming medical drama following the heartbreak and victories of hard-charging, brilliant physician Dr. Amy Larsen (Emmy nominee Molly Parker, House of Cards) as she rebuilds her life after a car crash erased eight years of her memory. This season, Amy will continue to confront hard truths about her missing years, work to repair fractured relationships and seek to reconcile the person she used to be with the one everyone else has come to know. Also starring Omar Metwally, Felicity Huffman, Amirah Vann, Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, Jon Ecker, and Anya Banerjee.

Actor and television writer David Ketchum, who starred as Spiffy in Camp Runamuck and as Agent 13 in Get Smart, has died. He died of heart failure on August 10 in Thousand Oaks, California. Mr. Ketchum was 97.

Ketchum's first regular role was as Mel Warshaw in 23 episodes of the 1962-1963 ABC sitcom I'm Dickens, He's Fenster. The series starred John Astin and Marty Ingels as Harry Dickens and Arch Fenster, inept Los Angeles carpenters who were friends, and who worked for the Bannister Construction Company. Mel Warshaw and Bob Mulligan (Henry Beckman) were carpenters who provided little help when problems arose on a job site. The cast included Emmaline Henry, Frank DeVol, and Noam Pitlik.

He starred as Senior Counselor Spiffy in the 1965-1966 NBC sitcom Camp Runamuck. The series related the wacky goings-on at the titular boys' summer camp, and at Camp Divine, its girls' counterpart across the lake. Runamuck was run by Commander Wivenhoe (Arch Johnson), a man who couldn't stand kids, and Senior Counselor Spiffy, his assistant of sorts. The cast included Alice Nunn, Dave Madden, Leonard Stone, Nina Wayne, Hermione Baddeley, Mike Wagner, and George Dunn.

Ketchum had a recurring role as Agent 13 in 13 episodes of the NBC sitcom Get Smart from 1966 to 1967. Agent 13 is an agent who is usually stationed inside unlikely, sometimes impossibly small or unlucky places, such as cigarette machines, washing machines, lockers, trash cans, or fire hydrants. Ketchum also co-wrote the third season episode titled "Classification: Dead." He reprised the role in the 1989 ABC TV movie Get Smart, Again! as well as an episode of the 1995 revival of Get Smart on Fox. Get Smart starred Don Adams, Barbara Feldon, and Edward Platt.

He had a recurring role as Joe Kelly, the father of Joey Kelly (Jodie Foster), in three episodes of The Courtship of Eddie's Father from 1969 to 1970. Some of his other sitcom guest appearances included The Jim Backus Show, Angel (2 episodes in 1961), The Real McCoys, The Joey Bishop Show (2 episodes), The Munsters, Hey, Landlord (4 episodes), Good Morning World (2 episodes), The Andy Griffith Show (2 episodes), Accidental Family (2 episodes), Petticoat Junction, Gomer Pyle: USMC, Mayberry R.F.D., That Girl (3 episodes), The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Green Acres (2 episodes), My Three Sons, The Odd Couple (2 episodes), The Partridge Family (1972), Love, American Style (4 episodes), Maude, Happy Days (5 episodes), Alice, Mork & Mindy, and Perfect Strangers.

Some of his other sitcom writing credits included Hey, Landlord (1967), Captain Nice (2 episodes), Here's Lucy (2 episodes), Me and the Chimp (2 episodes), Love, American Style (4 episodes), M*A*S*H, Blansky's Beauties, On Our Own (1977), Who's Watching the Kids? (2 episodes, he also directed 2 episodes), Happy Days (10 episodes), Laverne & Shirley (5 episodes), Too Close for Comfort, Down to Earth, The Love Boat (7 episodes), Perfect Strangers, Sledge Hammer! (4 episodes), and Full House.

Mr. Ketchum was funny and memorable as the unfortunate Agent 13 in Get Smart. He was a familiar face in many sitcoms of the 1960s and 1970s. We thank him for the laughs as an actor and writer. He will be greatly missed.

Actor Jerry Adler, who starred in Hudson Street, Alright Already and Raising Dad, has died. He died at his home in New York City on August 23. Mr. Adler was 96.

Adler had a recurring role as Mr. Wicker, the apartment building superintendent, in nine episodes of the NBC sitcom Mad About You from 1994 to 1999. He first appeared as Sgt. Panino in a 1993 episode. He reprised the role of Mr. Wicker in two episodes of the 2019 Spectrum revival.

He starred as Lt. Al Teischler in the 1995-1996 ABC sitcom Hudson Street. Tony Danza starred as Tony Canetti, a divorced detective in Hoboken, New Jersey, who shares custody of his son Mickey with his ex-wife. Old-timer Al was seen down at the station house. The cast included Lori Loughlin, Frankie J. Galasso, Christine Dunford, Tom Gallop, Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter, and Shareen J. Mitchell.

Adler starred as Al Lerner in the 1997-1998 The WB sitcom Alright Already. Carol Lerner (Carol Leifer) is a single businesswoman who opens an optometry shop in Miami with her best friend and deals with embarrassing situations and her relationship with her family. Al and Miriam Lerner (Mitzi McCall) were her retired, overbearing, perpetually squabbling parents. The series also starred Amy Yasbeck, Stacy Galina, and Maury Sterling.

He starred as Sam Stewart in the 2001-2002 The WB sitcom Raising Dad. Matt Stewart (Bob Saget) is a widower trying to raise his two daughters, Sarah (Kat Dennings) and Emily (Brie Larson), with the help of his live-in father, Sam, a former baseball player for the Boston Red Sox. The cast included Meagan Good, Andy Kindler, Ben Indra, Beau Wirick, Camille Guaty, Tembi Locke, and Riley Smith.

Some of his other sitcom guest appearances included Brooklyn Bridge, True Colors (2 episodes), Spin City, LateLine, The War at Home, 'Til Death (2 episodes), Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Broad City.

Adler was also known for work in television dramas. He had a recurring role as Herman "Hesh" Rabkin, a loan shark and advisor to Tony Soprano, in 28 episodes of the 1999-2007 HBO crime drama The Sopranos. He had a recurring role as Sidney Feinberg, FDNY 75th Battalion Chief, in 34 episodes of the FX comedy drama Rescue Me from 2007 to 2011. He had a recurring role as Howard Lyman in 30 episodes of the CBS legal political drama The Good Wife from 2011 to 2016. He reprised the role in two episodes of The Good Fight in 2017 and 2018. He had a recurring role as Moshe Pfefferman, the father of Maura Pfefferman (Jeffrey Tambor), in nine episodes of the Amazon comedy drama Transparent from 2017 to 2019.

Some of his other television guest appearances included Quantum Leap (1992), New York Undercover, Northern Exposure (3 episodes as Rabbi Alan Schulman), Law & Order, Wonderland, Bull (3 episodes), The West Wing, CSI: Miami, Detroit 1-8-7, Mozart in the Jungle (2 episodes), and Living with Yourself.

Mr. Adler was a talented and versatile actor. He spent decades behind the scenes of storied Broadway productions before pivoting to acting in his early 60s. We thank him for his work on television. He will be sorely missed.
