SitcomsOnline Digest: More Arrested Development for Netflix; Hobbyist Creates Golden Girls LEGO Set; Simpsons DVDs Possibly Coming to an End?

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we have news of new episodes of Arrested Development on Netflix, a story about a potential LEGO set that sitcom fans would love to see produced (and potentially could be), and a development on how the era of The Simpsons on home media could be finished. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • It looks like 17 more episodes of Arrested Development could be in the works for Netflix. (Variety)
  • The idea of a Golden Girls LEGO set is probably one of the weirdest ideas ever, but it could actually become a reality. (Entertainment Weekly)
  • The TV season is ending, and the question that remains up in the air is the one about how certain series, such as ABC's The Middle, can move on if certain cast members leave the show. (Deadline)
  • Fresh Off the Boat is popular with viewers, but there is one person who really seems to hate everything about the show: Eddie Huang, the writer of the memoir that the series was based upon. (LA Times)
  • James Best, who was known for his role of Roscoe P. Coltrane on The Dukes of Hazzard, died this week. (Washington Post)
  • The Fox series The Last Man on Earth has been renewed for a second season. (SitcomsOnline)

HOME MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS

  • Simpsons executive producer Al Jean had a piece of news that is certain to outrage some fans of The Simpsons and TV on DVD in general, as it was reported this week that Fox has decided to end their releases the series on DVD and Blu-ray. It is worth noting that the release of the first season of this series in 2001 was a major moment in TV on DVD history, as it marked the first time that a broadcast network comedy had been released in a season form (although HBO had a few releases that predated that one). The studio has not confirmed the ending of the DVDs.
  • The Crazy Ones didn't last long on CBS, but Fox has released every episode of it as a MOD release this week, in The Crazy Ones - The Complete First Season.
  • Fox is releasing American Dad - Volume 10 on May 19, also as a MOD release.

The Facts of Life Coming to Logo; New Bounce TV Sitcom Mann & Wife Premieres Tonight

The Facts of Life

The Facts of Life is coming to Logo. The Viacom cable network will air the series starting this Saturday (April 11). For now the '80s sitcom will air Saturday mornings from 6-10am. Also returning to the line-up is the '70s classic Maude, which has never really aired regularly. It aired in various stunts along with fellow '70s comedy Soap. The Bea Arthur sitcom will now air once a week in a marathon block on Friday nights (or Saturday afternoons, check local listings). The Facts of Life and Maude join a line-up of various sitcoms from all eras including Who's the Boss?, Designing Women, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Roseanne, The Golden Girls, Will & Grace and Sabrina The Teenage Witch. They have aired other series like Samantha Who, Just Shoot Me!, Happy Endings and Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23, but as of now all of those aren't airing. Of course The Facts of Life starred Charlotte Rae, Lisa Whelchel, Kim Fields, Mindy Cohn and Nancy McKeon. Perhaps the show will eventually be expanded and air multiple times a week like their other sitcoms? Only time will tell. Stay with us for continued updates.

Mann & Wife

Real-life husband and wife team David Mann (House of Payne, Meet The Browns) and Tamela Mann (Madea's Big Happy Family, Sparkle) are reuniting on screen, as well as behind-the-scenes as executive producers, with the debut of their new family-friendly original sitcom Mann & Wife premiering on Bounce TV tonight (Tuesday, April 7) at 9pm ET/8 CT. In Mann & Wife, the devoted couple draws inspiration from their real lives to play newlyweds Daniel and Toni Mann. The series follows the second-chance sweethearts as they laugh and love their way through the ups and downs of life as a blended family, each with two children from previous marriages.

Life as they know it is turned inside out when Daniel, a police officer from Atlanta, and Toni, a school teacher from Dallas, meet on a dating site and fall in love. When they decide to marry and Toni moves into Daniel's house in the Atlanta suburbs, the honeymooners -- along with their kids, two from each side -- all have to adjust to their new lives together. They also have to deal with David's overbearing live-in mother and his jet-setting ex-wife. In addition to the show's popular stars, Mann & Wife features a vibrant supporting cast: Vivica A. Fox (Sharknado 2), portraying Daniel's ex-wife; Tony Rock (All of Us), playing Daniel's new partner; JoMarie Payton (Family Matters) as Lorraine, Daniel's overbearing mother and Tiny Lister (Friday) as Daniel's Sergeant and boss.

Having recently scored its biggest hits to date, CMT continues to expand an impressive slate of original programming with five new series, a NASCAR event and several returning favorites. The new originals include two comedies: Still the King starring singer-songwriter/actor Billy Ray Cyrus and a forthcoming series I Love Kellie Pickler (working title) featuring country singer Kellie Pickler and her husband Kyle Jacobs produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions. CMT will launch its first-ever nightly talk show, The Josh Wolf Show, starring comedian Josh Wolf and produced by Chelsea Handler. Also coming to CMT are The Ed Bassmaster Show, starring YouTube phenomenon Ed Bassmaster; Gainesville, a coming of age docu-series from the award-winning producers of Brick City; and American Speed: The True Story of NASCAR, a first of its kind limited series event that gives fans an unparalleled look at NASCAR narrated by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Friday Night Lights

Additionally, the entire series of the highly lauded ensemble drama Friday Night Lights starring Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton will begin airing in May on CMT. It will be shared with sister network TeenNick, which will start the series this Friday (April 10) and will air it 9pm-12am Fri-Sun. CMT is now also airing reruns of George Lopez and Hot in Cleveland in the daytime to go along with reruns of Reba. The comedies are airing from 1pm-8pm, with two-hours each of George and Hot and three-hours of Reba from 5-8pm. The Dukes of Hazzard will be off the schedule starting the 13th, as the series was airing 1-3pm. As for the new comedies,Still The King starring Billy Ray Cyrus, the scripted comedy features Cyrus as Vernon Brown, AKA "Burnin' Vernon," a scandal-ridden washed up one-hit wonder who is kicked out of country music, only to emerge 20 years later as the second best Elvis impersonator in Laughlin, Nevada. After crashing into an old country church outside of Nashville during a drunken bender, he is sentenced to return and perform community service. Along the way, he pretends to be the congregation's new minister and discovers he has a 15-year-old daughter he's never met. In I Love Kellie Pickler, Kellie Pickler catapulted from small-town obscurity and became a household name thanks to American Idol and Dancing With the Stars, but has since gone on to become a country sensation and part of the CMT Family.
