SitcomsOnline Digest: John Stamos Keeping Busy with Roles; Netflix to Stream Spinoff Movie to British Version of The Office

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week has been a surprisingly busy news week (for summer, especially) with lots of casting news and (unfortunately) more deaths of sitcom stars. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • It'll still be a while before we see the second season of Fuller House, but one thing is for sure, and that is Bob Saget and John Stamos will continue to make at least a few appearances in the second season. (Deadline)
  • It is worth noting, though, that Fuller House still won't be a full-time job for John Stamos, as he has also been cast as a regular in the second season of Scream Queens. (Variety)
  • Wilmer Valderrama, best known for playing Fez on That '70s Show, has been cast as a regular in the fourteenth season of NCIS. (USA Today)
  • A spinoff movie of British version of The Office (which starred Ricky Gervais) is coming to Netflix next year. (IGN)
  • Scott Bakula appeared on Late Night with Stephen Colbert this week, and with it, he brought back Quantum Leap for a few brief moments in a short skit. (YouTube
  • A sitcom star death that has sort of gone under the radar this week is that of Ann Morgan Guilbert, best known for her roles on The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Nanny. (CNN)
  • Both Janet Waldo (the voice of Judy Jetson on The Jetsons) and Michu Mezsaros (the man inside of the costume on ALF) died this week. (SitcomsOnline)

Who to Follow: Scott Bakula (Twitter)
Claim to Fame: Scott Bakula was born in St. Louis in 1954, and began his career as a stage actor. It wasn't until he was in his 30s that he first made any appearances on any TV series or movie. His first TV appearance came in an episode of My Sister Sam, and he also appeared in several Designing Women episodes playing Ted Shively, the ex-husband of Annie Potts' character Mary Jo. In 1989, he starred in Eisenhower and Lutz, a short-lived sitcom created by Allan Burns. But as luck would have it, that show would be canceled just in time for his first big role as Same Beckett on Quantum Leap. Since then, he has remained busy, with starring roles on Star Trek: Enterprise and Men of a Certain Age, and recurring roles on numerous other series. Currently, he stars in NCIS: New Orleans.
