SitcomsOnline Digest: ABC Buys Multi-Cam Pilot Pitch from Creator of Mom; Final Three Saturday Night Live Hosts Announced

• ABC has bought a pilot pitch called The Dogwood, a multi camera comedy from the creator of Mom. (Deadline)
• The final three hosts and musical guests for Saturday Night Live for this season have been announced. (NBC)
• CBS has chosen to "lease" (in other words, it's pretty much like they're selling infomercial time) their late night lineup to Byron Allen after the final episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs, so that they can air reruns of episodes of Comics Unleashed in an earlier time slot, the series that typically airs at 3 AM on a CW affiliate, that nobody was laughing at even when they were new a decade ago. • In a little bit of brighter news for CBS, they have picked up Eternally Yours, a comedy pilot from the showrunners of Ghosts. (Deadline)
• HBO has picked up Rooster for a second season. (SitcomsOnline)

HBO Renews Rooster for Season 2; Studio C with Special Guest Star Rainn Wilson

HBO has renewed its new comedy series Rooster for a second season, with the first four episodes averaging 5.8M U.S. viewers and is pacing as the most watched freshman HBO comedy in over a decade. New episodes of the 10-episode season, from Warner Bros. Television, debut Sundays at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT leading up to the season finale on May 10. Episodes air on HBO and are available to stream on HBO Max.

A comedy set on a college campus centering on an author's (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Charly Clive). Season 1 cast: The series stars Steve Carell, Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai.

BYUtv, the home of free inspiring family entertainment - available over streaming, cable and satellite - announced that the season 22 premiere of fan-favorite sketch comedy series Studio C will feature special guest star Rainn Wilson (The Office). The premiere is now streaming for free on the BYUtv app and BYUtv.org and airs Thursday April 9 at 6:30 p.m. PT/9:30 p.m. ET. A new episode streams and airs each week. Additionally, seasons 23 and 24 will be in production this spring and summer in front of studio audiences and on location with special guest stars and returning members of the Studio C family.

With more than three billion views on YouTube, Studio C has welcomed past guest stars including Terry Crews, Jack McBrayer, Kenan Thompson, Jon Heder, Will Forte, Josh Peck, Steven He and Pierson Wodzynski. It derives universally loved humor from everyday life through shareable sketches that offer comic perspective on commonplace scenarios and pop culture commentary.

Rooster Premieres March 8 on HBO; MGM+ Comedy American Classic Trailer

The HBO Original comedy series Rooster debuts Sunday, March 8 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. New episodes of the 10-episode season, from Warner Bros. Television, will debut weekly through Sunday, May 10.

A comedy set on a college campus centering on an author’s (Steve Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Charly Clive). The series stars Steve Carell, Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai.

The trailer and artwork for MGM+ comedy American Classic is now available. American Classic, from creators Michael Hoffman and Bob Martin, debuts Sunday, March 1 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. The eight-episode, heartfelt comedy series about a family full of drama, will debut with two episodes then weekly leading up to the series finale on Sunday, April, 12.

The comedy tells the story of Broadway star Richard Bean who suffers a spectacular public meltdown and returns home to the family theater where he first became aware of his own brilliance. Once there, his extreme behavior sets off a series of crises among those closest to him: his ex-girlfriend (now the town's mayor) married to his brother, his brother himself, and his beloved niece who dreams of a life in the theater. As old loves resurface and buried secrets emerge, Richard must confront the consequences of his past actions and the family and town he left behind for fame and glamour. Each season follows a different Richard Bean production that will reflect the stories unfolding in the lovable but flawed Bean family and the transformative power of making art.

• Last week, it was announced that, after appearing for several weeks that Paramount would acquire Warner Bros Discovery, Netflix would be the one to acquire it... but now it's gotten far more complicated and Paramount is doing everything that it possibly can to get it. (Deadline)
• Bill Lawrence's new HBO Max comedy starring Steve Carell now has a title, Rooster. (Variety)
• Hugh Laurie is joining Amy Poehler in Dig, a new Mike Schur comedy that will air on Peacock. (Variety)

• This is one we weren't expecting: The New Fred and Barney Show - The Complete Series, which has never been on home media in any format, is coming to Blu-ray in February. (Animated Views)

HBO's Rooster Premieres in March; Fox's Updated Winter 2026 Schedule

The HBO Original comedy series Rooster will debut March 2026 on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. The 10-episode season, from Warner Bros. Television, hails from co-showrunners and executive producers Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses and stars Steve Carell, who also serves as executive producer. A comedy set on a college campus centering on an author’s (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Charly Clive).

The series stars Steve Carell, Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai. Rooster, from co-showrunners Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, is executive produced by Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer for Doozer, Matt Tarses, Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, Anthony King, and Steve Carell.

FOX announced updates to its Winter 2026 premiere dates, including special advance premieres of new series Best Medicine and returning comedy Animal Control, following respective FOX NFL doubleheaders, as well as a two-night premiere event for new drama series Memory of a Killer, starring Patrick Dempsey and Michael Imperiloi, beginning immediately after the NFC Championship Game.

Animal Control, starring Joel McHale, will have a special advance Season Four premiere on Sunday, December 28 (8:00-8:30 PM ET / Live to All Time Zones) immediately following the FOX NFL doubleheader. An all-new episode of The Simpsons will air at a special time (8:30-9:00 PM ET / Live to All Time Zones), followed by all-new episodes of Krapopolis (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) and Bob's Burgers (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT). Following a new episode of Hell's Kitchen (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), live-action comedies return starting Thursday, January 15 with an all-new time period premiere episode of Animal Control (9:00-9:30PM ET/PT) and the Season Two premiere of Going Dutch, starring Denis Leary (9:30-10:00PM ET/PT).

New series Best Medicine, starring Josh Charles, Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra and Annie Potts will have a special advance series premiere on Sunday, January 4 (8:00-9:00 PM ET / Live to All Time Zones) immediately following the FOX NFL doubleheader. An all-new episode of Krapopolis will air following (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) with an all-new episode of The Simpsons airing at a special time (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT). Best Medicine will have its time period premiere beginning Tuesday, January 6 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) with the series premiere episode, followed by the winter premiere of hit medical drama Doc (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), starring Molly Parker and Felicity Huffman and featuring the return of fan favorite Scott Wolf.

New psychological thriller Memory of a Killer, featuring Patrick Dempsey's return to broadcast television alongside Emmy Award-winner Michael Imperioli and Gina Torres (9-1-1: Lone Star) will launch with a special two-night premiere event beginning Sunday, January 25 (10:00-11:10 PM ET / Live to All Time Zones) immediately following the NFC Championship Game (6:00-10:00 PM ET / Live to All Time Zones). The two-night event continues the next evening, Monday, January 26, when Memory of a Killer will have its time-period premiere (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) with an all-new episode, preceded by the Season Two premiere of extreme survival series Extracted (8:00-9:00PM ET/PT). Additional schedule details to be announced.
