STARZ Comedy Minx Returns July 21; Netflix Renews XO, Kitty

STARZ released the trailer and key art for the return of its wildly funny and critically acclaimed workplace comedy Minx which premieres on Friday, July 21 at midnight (ET) on the STARZ app, all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms. On linear, it will debut on STARZ at 9 PM ET/PT in the U.S. and Canada. The buzzy, eye-popping first season is currently available to stream on the STARZ app. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, Minx centers around Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), an earnest young feminist who joins forces with a low-rent publisher (Jake Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women. In season two, Doug, Joyce and the entire Bottom Dollar crew grapple with Minx’s explosive success, which takes them all to thrilling new places and brings more money, fame and temptation than anyone knows how to handle.

Minx stars Ophelia Lovibond (Guardians of the Galaxy, Rocketman) as “Joyce Prigger,” Jake Johnson (New Girl, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) as “Doug Renetti,” Idara Victor (Shameless, Turn) as “Tina,” Jessica Lowe (Righteous Gemstones, Miracle Workers) as “Bambi,” Lennon Parham (Bless This Mess, Better Things) as “Shelly,” Oscar Montoya (Dimension 20, Bless the Hearts) as “Richie,” and Elizabeth Perkins (The Afterparty, Barry) as “Constance.”

Netflix renews XO, Kitty - the spinoff series inspired by the popular To All the Boys I've Loved Before film franchise - for a second season. XO, Kitty premiered on May 18, 2023 and debuted at #2 on the English TV List with 72.1M hours viewed. The Young Adult Romantic Comedy series, which is produced by Awesomeness Studios and ACE Entertainment, appeared in the Top 10 in 90 countries in its first week. Season 2 details and additional information will be shared at a later time. Never Have I Ever is a coming-of-age comedy about the complicated life of a modern-day first-generation Indian American teenage girl. The series stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Devi, an overachieving high school student who has a short fuse that gets her into difficult situations. Never Have I Ever is created by executive producers, Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, with Fisher serving as the showrunner. Never Have I Ever is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and executive produced by 3 Arts Entertainment's Howard Klein and David Miner.

Zoey 101 Movie Zoey 102 Coming Soon to Paramount+; Starz Picks Up Minx

Nickelodeon announced the start of production on Paramount+'s Zoey 102 (working title), a full-length original movie based on characters from the hit live-action Nickelodeon comedy series Zoey 101. The movie follows Pacific Coast Academy alumni as they reunite for a wedding in the present day. Production is underway in North Carolina, with a premiere slated for later this year exclusively on Paramount+. The movie will star Jamie Lynn Spears (Zoey Brooks), Erin Sanders (Quinn Pensky), Sean Flynn (Chase Matthews), Matthew Underwood (Logan Reese), Christopher Massey (Michael Barret), Abby Wilde (Stacey Dillsen) and Jack Salvatore (Mark Del Figgalo).

Zoey 102 (working title) is directed by Nancy Hower (Saturdays, So Help Me Todd, QuickDraw) and Monica Sherer & Madeline Whitby (Betch, Drama Club, All That) wrote the script. Jamie Lynn Spears serves as executive producer along with Alexis Fisher, Hower and Sherer & Whitby. The YA (young adult) movie Zoey 102 (working title) is based on characters from the iconic series Zoey 101, which debuted on Nickelodeon in January 2005, and quickly emerged as one of the top live-action kids' series on all of television. The series follows Zoey Brooks as she enrolls in Pacific Coast Academy, a school that previously only allowed boys to attend. Throughout the series, Zoey and her friends navigate life as teenagers in a boarding school. The original Nickelodeon series was created by Dan Schneider. Zoey 102 (working title) joins Paramount+'s growing lineup of YA content, including the service's hit iCarly series revival, which was renewed for a third season, as well as the recently released film Honor Society, starring Angourie Rice (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Mare of Easttown) and Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things). Both projects were also produced by Paramount’s Nickelodeon and Awesomeness Live-Action Studios.

STARZ announced it has picked up season one and two of the critically acclaimed comedy series Minx (formerly aired on HBO Max). STARZ will exclusively premiere the second season. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, Minx centers around Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), an earnest young feminist who joins forces with a low-rent publisher (Jake Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women. The cast also includes Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano and Oscar Montoya. As previously announced, Elizabeth Perkins joined season two as recurring character Constance. MeTV Network Adds The A-Team for The Summer of Me; HBO Max Renews Two Comedies for Season 2

This summer, MeTV is adding some action to its weeknight line-up! 80's blockbuster The A-Team is joining the schedule and airing weeknights at 6pm starting Memorial Day - Monday, May 30. It will replace The Addams Family and Happy Days, which are off the regular line-up. The only other change to the line-up is on Sundays. A new five-hour block titled "The Summer of MeTV Sunday Block Party" where a different show will be showcased every week on Sunday afternoons from noon to 5PM eastern starting Sunday, June 5. No details yet on which shows will pop up all summer long, but from the hints in the promo below, we may see series like The Monkees, Mama's Family, I Love Lucy, Cheers, Laverne & Shirley and Gidget pop up. That's fun as none of those series are on the current regular line-up! As a result of the new Sunday Block Party block, Full House will move to Sundays at 5:00pm & 5:30pm replacing The Love Boat. HBO Max has renewed the comedy series Julia for a second season. The series, which debuted March 31 on HBO Max, concludes its first season on May 5. Julia is inspired by Julia Child's extraordinary life and her long-running television series, The French Chef, which pioneered the modern cooking show. Through Julia’s life and her singular joie de vivre, the series explores a pivotal time in American history – the emergence of public television as a new social institution, feminism and the women’s movement, the nature of celebrity and America’s cultural evolution. At its heart, the series is a portrait of a loving marriage with a shifting power dynamic. Season One Cast: Sarah Lancashire as Julia, David Hyde Pierce, Bebe Neuwirth, Brittany Bradford, Fran Kranz and Fiona Glascott. Guest stars included Isabella Rossellini, Judith Light, Robert Joy, Erin Neufer, Jefferson Mays, James Cromwell and Adriane Lenox.

The Game Renewed for Season 2 on Paramount+; HBO Max Announces Premiere Date for Minx

Paramount+, the streaming service from ViacomCBS, announced that the new series The Game will return for a second season. All 10 episodes of the first season are available to stream exclusively on Paramount+. Starring Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, Adriyan Rae, Vaughn Hebron, Analisa Velez and Toby Sandeman, The Game offers a modern-day examination of Black culture through the prism of pro football. The team tackles racism, sexism, classism and more as they fight for fame, fortune, respect and love – all while trying to maintain their souls as they each play The Game. The first season of The Game is executive produced by showrunner and writer Devon Greggory, original show creator Mara Brock Akil, Salim Akil, and original executive producer Kelsey Grammer and Tom Russo of Grammnet NH Productions. The series is produced by CBS Studios, Inphiniti Entertainment, Akil Productions and Grammnet NH Productions. The original seasons of The Game, which aired on The CW then BET, are also currently available to binge on Paramount+. The series is distributed internationally by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group.

HBO Max Announces Minx, Set in the 1970s; Remembering Gloria Henry of Dennis the Menace

HBO Max has ordered ten episodes of the half-hour comedy Minx from Ellen Rapoport, Feigco Entertainment and Lionsgate Television. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the series centers around an earnest young feminist who joins forces with a low-rent publisher to create the first erotic magazine for women. Minx stars Ophelia Lovibond (W1A, Elementary) and Jake Johnson (New Girl, Stumptown), who was previously announced as a guest star. Other series regulars include Idara Victor (Shameless, Turn), Jessica Lowe (Wrecked, Tacoma PD, Blended), Lennon Parham (Bless this Mess," Playing House, Veep), Michael Angarano (Emmy®-nominated for This Is Us, I'm Dying Up Here, The Knick) and Oscar Montoya (Reno 911, Bless the Harts, host of Spanish Aquí Presents podcast). Showrunner Ellen Rapoport executive produces the series alongside Paul Feig and Dan Magnante for Feigco Entertainment. Rachel Lee Goldenberg directed and executive produced the pilot. Lionsgate Television is the studio. Feigco and Lionsgate Television previously partnered with HBO Max on Love Life, which was renewed for a second season. Lionsgate is also producing Santa Inc. and Julia for HBO Max.

Actress Gloria Henry, who starred as Alice Mitchell on Dennis the Menace, has died. She died on April 3, the day after her 98th birthday, at her home in Los Angeles, California.

Henry starred as Michele "Mike" Malone on the 1954-1955 syndicated crime drama The Files of Jeffrey Jones. Jeffrey Jones (Don Haggerty) was a New York City private investigator working his way through law school. Michele "Mike" Malone was an impulsive newspaper reporter who often had to be rescued by Jones while she was trying to help with his investigations.

She starred as Alice Mitchell on the 1959-1963 CBS sitcom Dennis the Menace. Alice Mitchell was the mother of Dennis (Jay North) and the wife of Henry Mitchell (Herbert Anderson). The series ran for four seasons and 146 episodes. The cast included Joseph Kearns (1959-1962), Sylvia Field (1959-1962), Jeannie Russell, Gil Smith (1959-1960), Irene Tedrow, Billy Booth, Gale Gordon (1962-1963), Sara Seegar (1962-1963), Willard Waterman, Mary Wickes (1959-1962), Kathleen Mulqueen (1961), George Cisar (1960-1963) and Robert John Pittman (1961-1963).

Some of her sitcom guest appearances included My Little Margie, The Abbott and Costello Show, Father Knows Best, The Life of Riley, Hazel, The Farmer's Daughter, The Brady Brides, Newhart, Silver Spoons, Easy Street, Mr. Belvedere and Doogie Howser, M.D.. Her final television credit was as Mary-Elizabeth Clinch on the 2012 Parks and Recreation episode "Campaign Shake-Up."

Her drama guest appearances included Fireside Theatre, The Ford Television Theatre, TV Reader's Digest, Navy Log, Perry Mason, The Walter Winchell File, Tales of Wells Fargo, Broken Arrow, Rescue 8, Alcoa Theatre, The Thin Man, Bare Essence, Simon & Simon, Our House, Dragnet (1989), Dallas and Sisters. Some of her film credits included Sport of the Kings (1947), Keeper of the Bees (1947), The Strawberry Roan (1948), Triple Threat (1948), Racing Luck (1948), Miss Grant Takes Richmond (1949), Riders in the Sky (1949), Kill the Umpire (1950) and Rancho Notorious (1952). Her final film credit was as Mrs. Porter in Her Minor Thing (2005).

Ms. Henry was wonderful on Dennis the Menace. Alice Mitchell was an iconic and beloved TV mother. It's unfortunate Henry's career slowed down after Dennis the Menace and she became typecast in mother roles. She will be deeply missed.
