getTV

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas on getTV, as the network celebrates the season with its second annual "The Most Wonderful Month of the Year" event. The channel turns over its daily schedule during primetime all month long in order to focus on a mixture of rare and classic Christmas-themed variety specials, TV series episodes, and films, starring some of entertainment's biggest names, from Sunday, November 27 through Sunday, December 25, culminating in a week-long 24-hour-a-day yuletide mega-marathon kicking off at 12 noon on Sunday, December 18 and running through Christmas day. The event launches at the tail end of the Thanksgiving weekend at 7:50 p.m. ET on Sunday, November 27 with getTV's network premiere of 1998's The Christmas Wish starring Neil Patrick Harris as a young man who sets out to grant his grandmother's (Debbie Reynolds) wish in The Christmas Wish, which also features an early appearance by Naomi Watts.

Other highlights of note to us include, Tuesday evenings will highlight back-to-back holiday episodes of getTV's latest acquisitions, The Jeff Foxworthy Show, co-starring Haley Joel Osment, and The Bill Engvall Show, co-starring Jennifer Lawrence, followed each week by a classic Christmas film. And Wednesdays, as part of the channel's "Get Lost in TV" block, will feature Christmas-specific episodes of rare and classic television series, including a unique evening of 'action/crime' Christmas episodes from The Equalizer, Hardcastle and McCormick, Riptide and more (Nov. 30), an evening of yuletide Westerns featuring The Restless Gun, Cimarron City, The Tall Man and more (Dec. 7) and a night featuring back-to-back holiday hours of In the Heat of the Night (Dec. 14).

V and 666 Park Avenue - CW Seed

CW Seed has added two series to its streaming line-up. Two former ABC series: 666 Park Avenue and V. Both series are available now on CW Seed, with all 13 episodes of 666 Park Avenue. The drama starred Rachael Taylor, Dave Annable, Vanessa Williams, and Terry O'Quinn and followed a couple who learned that the Manhattan apartment building that they just moved into, including its upscale tenants, might have been possessed by a mysterious demonic force. The series aired in 2012-13 on ABC. CW Seed has the first season of ABC's V revival available right now, which is the full 12 episode first season. The revival chronicled the arrival on Earth of a technologically-advanced alien species which ostensibly came in peace, but actually had sinister motives. The series starred Elizabeth Mitchell and Morena Baccarin, with other stars like Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Laura Vandervoort, Charles Mesure and Scott Wolf.

The Jeff Foxworthy Show

getTV delivers a night of laughs with an all-new Tuesday lineup featuring The Jeff Foxworthy Show and The Bill Engvall Show, airing every Tuesday starting on October 11. The weekly block will highlight three back-to-back episodes of The Jeff Foxworthy Show from 8 p.m. ET to 9:30 p.m. ET, followed by three back-to-back episodes of The Bill Engvall Show from 9:30 p.m. ET to 11 p.m. ET. Each week kicks off with a trio of episodes of the 1995 sitcom The Jeff Foxworthy Show at 8 p.m. ET, starring beloved funnyman Jeff Foxworthy as a southern air conditioner repairman feeling hilariously out of his element in a small Indiana town. The show also features Haley Joel Osment in an early television role as Foxworthy's young son Matt, four years before his breakthrough role in The Sixth Sense. Jay Mohr, Bill Engvall, and Jerry Maguire standout Jonathan Lipnicki were added to the cast in season two.

The Bill Engvall Show

Then, stay tuned for three episodes of the 2007 sitcom The Bill Engvall Show at 9:30 p.m. ET, starring comedian Bill Engvall as a family counselor who is rarely able to understand his own family. In addition to co-stars Tim Meadows and Nancy Travis, the series notably featured a then-17-year-old Jennifer Lawrence in one of the Oscar®-winner's earliest starring roles, stealing the show as Engvall's teenage daughter, Lauren.

Hallmark Channel

Adrian Grenier (Entourage) and Amy Smart (Justified) have been cast as the leads in A Worthwhile Life, a new, original movie premiering on Hallmark Channel in 2017. Production is set to begin this month in and around Salt Lake City, Utah. Mary Landers (Smart) is a young woman whose hope for an engagement is unexpectedly upended when her fiancé tells her he is looking for someone more adventurous. On her train ride home, she trades glances with James Fielding (Grenier), a handsome stranger who appears to be the larger than life adventurer she is not. As throngs of shoppers exit the train all that is left of the mystery man is the phone he accidentally left behind. Mary endeavors to return it to him and finds herself on a journey of self-discovery. In the process she realizes that she may not be so different from the intriguing man who crossed her path after all.

INSP to Add Jeff Foxworthy Show; 4 New Series Join ABCd in September

The Jeff Foxworthy Show

Beginning this Friday (Sept. 9) in late night, INSP will be adding short-lived 1995-97 sitcom The Jeff Foxworthy Show starring comedian Jeff Foxworthy. The sitcom will air late nights on Fridays (early Saturday mornings) from 1-3am ET. INSP doesn't air any other sitcoms right now, as it is mostly classic TV dramas and westerns such as Bonanza, The Virginian, Daniel Boone, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, Matlock, Walker Texas Ranger and Dr. Quinn. A delightful blend of easygoing charm and gentle humor, Jeff Foxworthy treats television viewers to a welcome dose of Southern comfort. The award-winning stand-up comic and best-selling author stars as Jeff Foxworthy -- a fictitious offshoot of his own down-home persona -- who's a Southern native transplanted to Bloomington, Indiana. Anita Barone stars as Jeff's wife, Karen, a part-time Intensive Care Unit nurse and mother of the couple’s gifted seven-year-old son, Matt, played by a very young Haley Joel Osment.

Changes occurred in the sitcom's second season, with Jeff's relocation to Georgia and his new job has him working at the loading docks with some macho, no-nonsense boys from the south, including the dim-witted Florus (Neil Giuntoli) and his wise-cracking buddy, Bill (Bill Engvall), providing the perfect fodder for Foxworthy's insightful musings. Ann Cusack came on as Jeff's wife, Karen, a highly-skilled intensive care nurse whose ability to earn more money than her husband is a constant threat to his fragile ego. Fastidious and more liberal than Jeff, Karen and their two sons, Matt (Haley Joel Osment) and Justin (Jonathan William Lipnicki) provide additional inspiration for Foxworthy's comedic wit. The show's supporting cast in season two includes G.W. Bailey as Jeff's dad, Big Jim, a character based on Foxworthy's real father.

What to Text Him Back

Four new ABCd original short-form series are live now on the ABC app for desktop, mobile and connected TV devices, including What to Text Him Back from relationship expert and New York Times bestselling author of Get the Guy Matthew Hussey; This Isn't Working from social media influencer Lisa Schwartz; Farm to Plate, from Tastemade and Aussie culinary sensation Guy Turland; and She Talks, which tells the empowering stories of women who have turned their passions into paychecks. A new episode of On the Record is also available featuring rising RnB star Yuna and on September 15 A Little of Your Time with Quinn Marcus will debut with up and coming comedian and talk show host Quinn Marcus. As you know, ABC re-launched its app July 13, marking a major evolution of its streaming service. In addition to the current on-air shows, the network added ABCd short-form series, full seasons of 38 "Throwback" shows, and a redesigned user interface exclusively for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV that improves discovery and navigation.

Current ABCd series include: All My Gay Friends are Getting Married, Boondoogle, Forever 31, I Can Find $3000 In Your Home, On The Record, Newborn Moms, and Tastemade's Get Cookin'.

SitcomsOnline Digest: Henry Winkler and William Shatner Cast in NBC Alternative Comedy Series; Raven-Symoné to Enjoy The View

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! As usual for a summer week after everything for the fall season has been announced and doesn't start for about three more months, we have a slow news week. But we have developments regarding an alternative comedy in development at NBC with Henry Winkler, news of yet another Sony re-release from Mill Creek, a reminder that Rue McClanahan died five years ago (not this week), and surprisingly, for the first time in several weeks, no new developments about Fuller House or any old Full House news... although technically, John Stamos did manage to keep the streak of his name in the news going with some negative news of his own last night, but it isn't newsworthy for us). Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • Henry Winkler, William Shatner, Terry Bradshaw, and George Foreman have all been tapped as cast members for Better Late Than Never, an "alternative comedy" in development at NBC. (Deadline)
  • Raven-Symone is best known for her roles on The Cosby Show and That's So Raven, but now it is official: she is going to take a lot of time to enjoy The View, as she is the newest co-host. (ABC News)
  • Golden Girls star Rue McClanahan died over five years ago, yet news of her death began trending on social media this week (and the same thing happened approximately a year ago as well). So why? (CBS News
  • Comedy writer Paul Raley, who worked on series including Grace Under Fire, Night Court, and Saturday Night Live, died this week at the age of 71. (Variety)
  • Bounce TV is freshening up their sitcom offerings, by adding The Bernie Mac Show and Cosby to the lineup. (SitcomsOnline)

Who to Follow: Kurtwood Smith (Twitter), "Still don't know what I am doing here!"
Claim to Fame: The name may not be familiar to some, but the face (and who he is) certainly is familiar: Kurtwood Smith came to fame from playing Red Forman (dad) on the Fox sitcom That '70s Show. His TV and movie career actually started in 1980 with a small role in an episode of Soap. From that point, he made other small appearances in TV series, but mostly stuck with movie roles, including RoboCop. Of course, to TV fans, he was in That '70s Show, and more recently, he appeared on the (now canceled) ABC series Resurrection.

TBS Adds Jeff Foxworthy Show; Worst Audition Ever Gets 3-Month Run In L.A.

TBS has made a slight addition to its fall 2012 schedule. They will be adding another sitcom, but not until November. The sitcom is the 1995-97 sitcom The Jeff Foxworthy Show. The 41-episode sitcom has not been on the air since it aired on CMT and Nick at Nite quite a few years back. TBS will air the series on Saturday mornings in a four-episode block from 5-7am beginning early morning on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012. It will be replacing four airings of Married...with Children, which will remain every other morning from 5-7am. No other schedule changes will be made to the fall schedule that we announced.

The sitcom aired its first season on ABC before moving to NBC in its second season. Stand-up comic Jeff Foxworthy stars as a hardworking, self-proclaimed "redneck," striving to keep up with his fledgling heating and air business, his wife, kids and his well to do in-laws. Blue collar comedy at its finest! Haley Joel Osment and Jonathan Lipnicki played Foxworthy's sons. The sitcom only lasted two seasons but it has been featured on cable in syndication and both seasons are out on DVD. Catch the sitcom coming to Saturday mornings on TBS this November! Stay with us for any further updates!

After a successful one-year anniversary in Los Angeles and a sold-out charity benefit in New York City (which we were happily on hand for!), Worst Ever Productions is proud to present their first monthly run of Worst Audition Ever this fall at the Cavern Club in Silverlake, CA - produced by Christine Lakin (Step by Step), Alec Ledd, Daniel A. Miles, and Corri English. Of course if you don't know (we mentioned the NY show in June), it is an evening of comedy about a group of artists (actors, directors, dancers, etc.) telling their real stores about the all too familiar audition process. The format is simple - a blank stage with one microphone - making the shared stories truly intimate and personal. For anyone who has ever had an embarrassing moment "putting themselves out there" in the name of art, Worst Audition Ever presents a wry and candid evening of some of the most awkward moments in artistic vulnerability – because pain is best served funny and with cocktails.

The three-month run began last night actually, but you can still go tonight (Sept. 19) at 8PM for the last September show. Actors/writers performing this month are Kristen Cummins & Dee Dee Miller (The Mark & Mike Show, Troubled Ambition), Stephen Bienskie (Silence! The Musical), Kathy Deitch (Wicked), Ross Patterson (FDR: American Badass!), Jeff Skowron (NCIS, The Burg), Jeff Hiller (Silence! The Musical, 30 Rock), Patrick Bristow (The Groundlings, Ellen), Wyatt Fenner (Bones), Hanna LoPatin (writer on Partners, UCB), and Rob Nagle (Mad Men, Eli Stone). A new group of artists will participate every month! The October shows are scheduled for Wednesday, October 17 at 8PM and Thursday, October 18 at 8PM. And the November shows are scheduled for Tuesday, November 13 at 8PM and Wednesday, November 14 at 8PM. Tickets are only $20 online or you can buy at the door...so it is well worth the price. Believe me, I went to the New York City show in June and had a blast!

Christine Lakin is the Creator/Producer and is a friend of this website. Christine is also of course an actor and probably known best to fans of sitcoms as Al Lambert on the long-running TGIF sitcom Step By Step for ABC. She has also appeared in dozens of TV shows and films including Family Guy, Melissa & Joey, Stevie TV, You Again, Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve. She wrote, produced and stars in the webseries Lovin' Lakin on Hulu, which is a SitcomsOnline.com favorite webseries! She is a nominated choreographer and a member of The Troubadour Theater Company.

In addition to producing this three-month run of Worst Audition Ever, Christine is starring in the L.A. version of Silence! The Musical, a hilarious parody based on the Academy Award-winning film. She plays Clarice, the same role as Jodie Foster in the film. The musical runs every Thurs-Sun at The Hayworth Theatre in Los Angeles through early November. The Los Angeles Times calls Christine "the secret weapon of the production." Make sure you buy tickets and see Christine in action in that as well!
