SitcomsOnline Digest: Roseanne Without Roseanne is Official; Is a Revival of The Nanny in the Works?

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! No week would be complete without talking about Roseanne, although it may be The Conners we talk about more from now on! Additionally, we are hearing of a potential new revival of The Nanny, something happening in the reboot of Dynasty that will totally change how that show relates to the original, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB
  • We’ve known that ABC has been kicking the tires on it for almost a month now, and now it is official: there will be a spinoff of the reboot of Roseanne, featuring all of the cast except for Roseanne Barr herself. (NPR)
  • Now this is a reboot that might work and would certainly not end with the star doing something controversial: Fran Drescher says a revival of The Nanny could be happening. (The Wrap)
  • For years, the mostly left-wing entertainment division of Fox and the mostly right-wing news division of Fox have been able to co-exist, but it seems that tensions have reached a boiling point this week and creative talents in the entertainment division (including Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane) are speaking out, with Levitan going so far as to announce that he will leave the studio following the conclusion of Modern Family. (Hollywood Reporter)
  • It looks as if the CW reboot of Dynasty is going to have to go in a different direction than the original Dynasty went, as the actress who plays Cristal in the reboot will not be returning for the second season. (Deadline)
  • It just barely made it to a second season, but a third won’t be happening, as NBC has decided time is up for Timeless. (CNN)
  • 3rd Rock from the Sun will debut July 16 on Laff. (SitcomsOnline)

    HOME MEDIA RELEASES (JUNE 26)

    WEEKLY PLANNER (JUNE 23 - JUNE 29)
    • A new version of Double Dare, a Nickelodeon favorite from the past, will be coming to Nickelodeon on Monday, and although he won't have the same role he originally had, original host Marc Summers will be involved.
    • You know that the middle of summer has arrived when CBS starts resorting to a reality show about people living in a house together, and that show (Big Brother) returns for an astonishing 20th season on Wednesday.
    • A new season of GLOW will arrive on Netflix on Friday.
    • The binge on Decades this weekend is taking a slightly different approach, and you can catch every episode of Bridget Loves Bernie (twice even) as well as Square Pegs this weekend.
