TBS Presents Alien-ish Week with Sitcoms; Viacom Snags Tyler Perry
While fans await the highly anticipated second season of TBS's hit comedy series People of Earth, the network will present Alien-ish Week, an entire week of sci-fi, geek, alien and monster-themed programming starting today (Monday, July 17). Hosted by People of Earth's fan favorite aliens Jeff the Grey (Ken Hall) and Don the White (Björn Gustafsson), TBS's Alien-ish Week will feature a cosmic lineup that includes the best sci-fi episodes of The Big Bang Theory, Family Guy, American Dad!, Bob's Burgers, Friends and Seinfeld, along with blockbuster invasion movies like Transformers, War of the Worlds, Pacific Rim and Battle: Los Angeles. Viewers will also get the chance to binge-watch the entire first season of People of Earth as the other-worldly fun continues through Sunday, July 23. The second season of People of Earth will then launch on Monday, July 24 at 10:30 p.m. (ET/PT).
From Emmy® winners Conan O'Brien and Greg Daniels and creator David Jenkins comes TBS's People of Earth, an out-of-this-world comedy series about a support group for alien "experiencers." The show's ensemble cast includes three-time Emmy winner Wyatt Cenac, Ana Gasteyer, Oscar Nuñez, Michael Cassidy, Alice Wetterlund, Luka Jones, Brian Huskey, Tracee Chimo, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Björn Gustafsson and Ken Hall. Joining the cast this season is Nasim Pedrad as FBI Special Agent Alex Foster.
Viacom Inc. announced it has entered into a comprehensive, multi-year content partnership with the award-winning writer, director, producer, actor and playwright Tyler Perry, encompassing television, film and short-form video. Under the terms of the agreement, Perry will produce approximately 90 episodes annually of original drama and comedy series for BET and other Viacom networks, and Viacom will have exclusive licensing rights on this programming. In addition, Viacom will have exclusive distribution rights to Perry's short-form video content, and Paramount Pictures will have exclusive "first look" rights on any new feature film concepts created by Perry. The film agreement is effective immediately, with the partnership on Perry's TV and short-form video content to go into effect in May 2019, following the expiration of Perry's exclusive agreement with OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. Viacom's agreement will extend through 2024.
Perry is the creative mind behind seven television series and 16 feature films in addition to 20 plays and a best-selling book. His first television series, Tyler Perry's House of Payne set then-ratings records for a basic cable sitcom when it debuted and was followed up by the highly successful Meet the Browns. Since then he has continued to launch a series of popular programs, including the sitcom Love Thy Neighbor and the drama The Haves and The Have Nots. His films include many box office hits, including his long-lasting Madea franchise.
