SitcomsOnline Digest: ABC Cancels Uncle Buck; Rob Lowe to Become a Regular in Code Black

- We predicted it before the first episode even aired (not even a whole month ago), but ABC has now officially canceled Uncle Buck after four weeks and eight episodes. (Deadline)
- Rob Lowe has been determined to keep himself as a regular on some TV series ever since he was part of the cast on The West Wing in 1999, and he will enter his 18th season of that streak this fall as he becomes a regular on the CBS series Code Black. (Variety)
- Comcast is making watching Netflix a much easier experience for some of their subscribers. (Forbes)
- Does studio laughter belong on modern sitcoms at all? One British based critic doesn't think so. (The Guardian)
- TBS has announced a pair of renewals this week. (SitcomsOnline)
HOME MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS
- Mill Creek is continuing with their re-releases of series with some new Blu-ray releases of Universal series on October 4, including Miami Vice - The Complete Series (Blu-ray) and Knight Rider - The Complete Series (Blu-ray). That's not all, though. On the same day, they will also re-release the complete series on DVD with Miami Vice - The Complete Series (DVD) and Knight Rider - The Complete Series (DVD).
- That isn't all for Mill Creek. On September 6, they will re-release Coach, beginning with Coach - Seasons One and Two (of course, we're hopeful that they'll eventually give us the entire series of it on DVD).
- Warner Archive is moving forward with Family Matters, with a July 26 release of Family Matters - The Complete Seventh Season.
TUESDAY (JULY 12) HOME MEDIA RELEASES
- The Defenders - Season One (DVD, $44.99): Shout! Factory brings the first season of this classic (but rarely seen these days) legal drama starring E.G. Marshall and Robert Reed to DVD.
- Grady - Season One (DVD, $30.99): The short-lived Sanford & Son spinoff that starred Whitman Mayo arrives on DVD with this MOD release from Sony. (We should note that it hasn't been confirmed by the studio that this release will arrive on Tuesday.)
- Emergency! - The Complete Series (DVD, $149.98): The classic medical action-drama series arrives on DVD as a complete series for the first time.
