2014 SITCOMS ON DVD PREVIEW
January 2014:
01/07 - Barney Miller - The Complete Fourth Season
Shout! Factory released the Complete Series (read our review) back on October 25, 2011. They are now continuing with the individual season releases. The 3-disc set runs contains 23 episodes and runs approximately 555 minutes. It has a SRP of $24.97. Season four featured the final regular episodes of Abe Vigoda until he returned for one episode in the seventh season.
Airing on ABC primetime from 1974-1982 and seen by millions, Barney Miller is a situation comedy television series set in a NYC police station in Greenwich Village. Captain Barney Miller (Hal Linden) is the kind of cop we'd all like to meet. He somehow manages to maintain order over a group of inner-city detectives who gamble for a hobby, get hit on by anything in skirts, go to renaissance philosophy conventions for fun, and would really prefer to be writing. These colorful characters worked together to make one of the funniest sitcoms ever and is cemented in classic TV status.

Fetching Soviets!) and new foes (Eight is Enough's Willie Aames taking up the "best frenemy" role previously enjoyed by Jodie Foster). But the show still delivers its sitcom-changing mix of maturity, tenderness and laughs thanks to the evident bond enjoyed by series stars Bill Bixby and Brandon Cruz and the comedic support from series creator James Komack and series regular Kristina Holland as Norman Tinker and Tina Rickles.
Adding to the razzmatazz is one very special guest-star, Sammy Davis Jr. as Ronnie Rivers Jr. a phobia-filled insurance adjuster. And "Uncle Teddy" (Dennis Larson) is sure to demand "the proper respect" from his five-day-older nephew, Jake (Kirby Furlong). 2014 Wish List:
This is my wish list for 2014. Some of them probably have slim to no chance of ever being available, but I still have hope for them someday. None of these titles have been officially announced.
According to Jim - Seasons 3-5 were released in 2011. Could we see the final 3 seasons released in 2014? It has been stalled it seems.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet - A fundraising project by Sam Nelson to get the show restored and complete on DVD raised over $32,000.
Alice - The third and fourth seasons were released in 2013. Hopefully there is more to come in 2014.
Archie Bunker's Place - A complete series boxed set would be nice to go along with All in the Family - The Complete Series.
Baby Daddy - This series is still not out on DVD. It is very popular on ABC Family and hopefully we get its first season in 2014.
Becker - The fifth season was released in July. Only one season is left to finish the series.
Benson - Season Two was in 2012. Hopefully more seasons will be available in the future.
Blossom - I'm surprised that it hasn't been available as a Shout! Factory Select title like Mr. Belvedere. Seasons 1-2 were released way back in January 2009. Mill Creek released a "best of" set in October 2010.
The Bob Newhart Show - We are still patiently waiting for the fifth and sixth seasons to be released. There have been many talks in the past, but nothing has been announced yet. RIP Marcia Wallace.
Brooklyn Bridge - There were rumors of a release in 2010 by the show's creator Gary David Goldberg (RIP), but it never materialized.
California Dreams - Only Season 5 remains to be released.
Coach - Season 4 was released in March 2011. Maybe we will see another season this year.
Dave's World - Only Seson 4 is left to complete the series.
Diff'rent Strokes - Shout! Factory released the third and fourth seasons in 2012. Hopefully they will release more seasons at some point. RIP Conrad Bain.
8 Simple Rules - We are still waiting for the third and final season.
Eight Is Enough - The third and four seasons were released in 2013. Only the fifth season is left to complete the series.
The Facts of Life - Mill Creek is re-releasing the first season. No ne seasons have been released since 2010.
Fish - Shout! Factory included the first season in the Barney Miller - The Complete Series release. It would be great to see the second season as well.
George Lopez - The third season was released in July. More seasons are needed. Sheow!
Growing Pains - The third season was released in May. One season a year would be fine.
Happy Days - It has been a long wait for the fifth season. Laverne & Shirley has continued to be released. Even Joanie Loves Chachi is getting a release, but where is Happy Days?
The Hogan Family - Music clearance issues seem to be the reason for no DVD releases at this point.
Hope & Faith - Season 1 was released several years ago, but we are still waiting on Seasons 2-3 from Lionsgate.
I'm Dickens...He's Fenster - We're still waiting for the second volume of this lost gem.
It's Your Move - It would make an ideal 3-disc set from Shout! Factory. A cult classic that would be a popular release.
Last Man Standing - We're into season three and still no DVD releases for this show at all. Very strange.
Laverne & Shirley - Only the eighth season is left to be released. If the recent release pattern holds, it will be available in 2015.
Less Than Perfect - Season 1 was released in September 2010. Hopefully this underrated series will have more seasons available at some point.
Mad About You - Seasons 6-7 are still needed to complete the series.
Mr. Belvedere - We're just waiting on Seasons 5-6 to complete the series.
Mister Ed - Season 5 was released as a Shout! Select title in 2011. Only Season 6 remains to complete the series.
Mork & Mindy - Mork calling CBS DVD... come in CBS DVD... We only need the fourth season to complete the series. RIP Jonathan Winters.
My Three Sons - Only Seasons 1-2 have been released. Unfortunately, many CBS DVD/Paramount series have been stalled for years.
My Two Dads - Only the third season remains to be released to complete the series.
My Wife and Kids - Only Seasons 1-2 have been released.
Out of This World - Volume 1 was released in Germany in November 2011. Will we see a U.S. release at some point?
Parker Lewis Can't Lose - Seasons 1 and 2 have been released. We're just waiting on the third season to complete the series.
Perfect Strangers - We're still waiting for the third season. We desperately need more Balki!
The Phil Silvers Show/Sgt. Bilko - It's another stalled CBS DVD/Paramount series.
Please Don't Eat the Daisies - As we reported in October 2012, Warner Archive hopes to bring it to DVD once some music issues are cleared and the episodes are remastered.
Rhoda - There were three seasons released in 2010. It's frustrating to be missing only one season to complete the series.
Silver Spoons - It would make a great Shout! Factory Select title.
Small Wonder - Seasons 1-2 have been released. Seasons 3-4 are still needed to complete the series.
Welcome Back, Kotter - It has been a long wait to see more of the Sweathogs.
Webster - Only the fifth and sixth seasons are left to complete the series. RIP Henry Polic II.
The Wonder Years - The first season had only six episodes. It could be given a trial run. Music licensing rights are a major issue, but hopefully a company like Shout! Factory could work on this set. It has been the #1 most requested unreleased show at TVShowsonDVD.com by a wide margin for many years.
