Bewitched Comes to Logo Starting Oct. 14; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of October 15, 2012)

Bewitched

Bewitched is coming to Logo TV starting this Sunday (Oct. 14, 2012) and it will be serving up some Sunday vintage realness. The enchanting classic sitcom Bewitched will be casting its magic all-day on Logo TV starting at 11am ET through 10pm ET. Darrin Stephens and his enchanted witch... we mean wife... will be stirring the pot and getting up to all sorts of shenanigans. Bubble, Bubble, toil and trouble being married to a witch can be pretty wonderful. The enduring sitcom will air a marathon on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 11am-10pm ET as we mentioned, but it will also air in different blocks after that. You'll have to keep checking your listings, as it will not be on for a set schedule. The schedule for the rest of the month includes: Wednesday, Oct. 17 7pm-10pm & 1:30am-3am; Saturday, Oct. 20 10:30am-3pm; Sunday, Oct. 21 2am-6am; Tuesday, Oct. 23 12am-2am; Friday, Oct. 26 10am-12:30pm; Saturday, Oct. 27 6am-10am; and Wednesday, Oct. 31 12:30am-2am. Logo TV will be airing seasons 5-8, it seems. Bewitched has not aired on cable since it left TV Land at the end of 2011. The sitcom was also on WGN America. On Logo TV, Bewitched will join series such as Nip/Tuck and Buffy he Vampire Slayer on the line-up.

Bewitched stars Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha Stephens, a beautiful witch who marries a mortal named Darrin, an advertising executive, played by Dick York in the first five seasons. In the sixth season and for the remainder of the series, Dick York is replaced by Dick Sargent. Samantha attempts to lead the life of a typical, suburban housewife, but she's continually tempted to use her witchcraft. With a twitch of her nose, she can instantly clean a kitchen, change outfits and make people appear or disappear. Darrin struggles to get ahead in business and cope with his disapproving mother-in-law. Endora, played by Agnes Moorehead, schemes to eliminate Darrin from her daughter's life and refuses to call him by his real name, preferring Durwood, Dum-Dum or anything else. Gladys Kravitz, the ultimate nosy neighbor, is always peeking through her window, hoping to prove that something strange is going on at the Stephens house. Of course she's right, but she never catches any of the witches, warlocks or other colorful characters who parade in and out.

Remembering Webster's Alex Karras; First Cancelation of Fall 2012: CBS Drama Made in Jersey

Alex Karras

Actor and former NFL player Alex Karras, who starred as George Papadapolis in Webster, has died. Karras died at his Los Angeles, California home in the morning hours on October 10 of complications from kidney failure. He had suffered from a variety of health problems in recent years, including dementia, heart disease and stomach cancer. Mr. Karras was 77.

Karras' acting career begain in 1968 when he played himself in the film adaptation of Paper Lion. He made many television guest appearances in series such as Daniel Boone, Love American, Style, The Odd Couple, McMillian & Wife and M*A*S*H. In 1974, he played thug Mongo in the Mel Brooks' comedy film Blazing Saddles. His character knocks out a horse with a single punch in a memorable scene. He played Hans Brumbaugh in the 1978-1979 NBC miniseries Centennial. Karras' television movie credits included Hardcase, The 500 Pound Jerk, Babe (a 1975 biopic where he met his wife Susan Clark), Mad Bull, Jimmy B. & André, Alcatraz: The Whole Shocking Story, Masada and Made in America. His theatrical film credits included Victor Victoria, Porky's and Against All Odds.

Karras played the lovable George Papadapolis, a former professional football player turned sportscaster, in the hit sitcom Webster. The series was about a couple who adopts a recently orphaned 7-year-old child named Webster. Karras starred with his real-life wife Susan Clark and Emmanuel Lewis. ABC aired the series for four seasons from 1983-1987 before it moved into first-run syndication for the final two seasons from 1987-1989. A total of 150 episodes were produced. Karras and Clark were among the producers of the series through their Georgian Bay Entertainment production company.

He played college football at the University of Iowa from 1956-1957. Karras was a first team All-American in 1956. In 1957, he helped his team win the Rose Bowl and received the Outland Trophy for the best interior lineman. He finished as the runner-up in voting for the Heisman Trophy. The Detroit Lions drafted him 10th overall in the first round of the NFL draft in 1958. He was one of the most dominant defensive tackles in the league during his 12 seasons in the league from 1958-1962 and 1964-1970. Karras was named to Pro Bowl team four times in 1959, 1960, 1961 and 1965. He was also named to the 1960s All-Decade NFL team. Following the end of his career, he later worked on ABC's Monday Night Football broadcast team with Howard Cosell and Frank Gifford for three seasons from 1974-1976.

Karras' survivors include his wife, Susan Clark; his sons George, Alex Jr. and Peter; and daughter, Katie. He was a talented man on and off the field. While he was one of the most fearsome players in football, he was a gentle giant on screen as an actor. We loved his work on Webster. It's very sad that he had dealt with so many health problems in recent years. He will be greatly missed.

Made in Jersey

CBS has pulled its new Friday drama Made in Jersey after just two airings. This is the first official cancelation of the 2012-13 season. The drama only mustered a 0.8 adults 18-49 rating last Friday in week two, after premiering to just a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating the week prior. CBS will move CSI: NY to the hour effective immediately this Friday (Oct. 12). CSI: NY was airing in the 8pm hour and also was struggling. Drama repeats will air for the next three weeks at 8pm (NCIS on Oct. 12 and 26 and Hawaii Five-0 on Oct. 19). CBS will launch the new season of Undercover Boss on Friday, Nov. 2 at 8pm. It will be opposite Kitchen Nightmares on Fox in terms of reality, as ABC's Shark Tank will be moving to 9pm on that night.

No word if CBS will air the remaining episodes that were already in the can. It is not known how many were completed in production. The series starred Janet Montgomery, Erin Cummings, Kristoffer Polaha, Kyle MacLachlan, Megalyn Echikunwoke and Toni Trucks. Will more series that are struggling be pulled soon too? Some candidates include The Mob Doctor, Animal Practice, Partners and sophomore comedy Up All Night. Stay with us, and also stay with us for any full season pick-ups (that's what we like to tell you more about, of course)!

Kaley Cuoco Returns to Host People's Choice Awards; John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health Running At ING New York City Marathon

Kaley Cuoco, the female lead of CBS's The Big Bang Theory, will return to host The People's Choice Awards 2013 for a second consecutive year, LIVE from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 from 9:00-11:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT, on CBS. The People's Choice Awards is the only major awards show where fans determine the categories, nominees and winners across multiple genres of movies, music and television. Beginning Oct. 23, fans will have the opportunity to narrow down a selection of nominees in each of more than 40 categories. Voting will take place online at www.Peopleschoice.com/nominees until Friday, Nov. 2.

Prior to her role as "Penny" on The Big Bang Theory, winner of the 2010 People's Choice Award for Favorite TV Comedy, Kaley Cuoco was best known to television audiences for her role as Bridget Hennesy in the sitcom 8 Simple Rules, winner of the 2003 People's Choice Award for Favorite New TV Comedy. This year, Cuoco starred opposite Rob Lowe in the Lifetime movie Untouchable: The Drew Peterson Story. She was also seen in The Last Ride, an independent film which tells the story of Hank Williams's final days, and in 2011, she co-starred in the family comedy HOP, with James Marsden and Russell Brand. Recently, Cuoco wrapped production on Scribble, an indie comedy about a group of aspiring writers.

The late great John Ritter continues to do good for the world. His youngest son Tyler Ritter, Watkins Little (the "Ridiculously Photogenic Guy"), thoracic aortic disease survivors and an aortic surgeon will be among the 15 Team Ritter runners dedicated to raising money for the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health (JRF) at the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012. Funds from the NYC Marathon raised for the JRF will go to the John Ritter Research Program in Aortic and Vascular Diseases (JRRP) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) to support research to identify genetic risks for aortic dissections. To donate, visit Edward Norton's Crowdrise online fundraising community.

"We are so proud and grateful to be one of the official charities of this year's NYC Marathon and have the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for life-saving research and education," said actress, writer and aortic health advocate Amy Yasbeck, the widow of legendary comic actor John Ritter, who died from an acute aortic dissection in 2003. "For Team Ritter, we looked for people who are passionate about increasing awareness of aortic dissection and its risk factors and committed to raising funds to support the JRF." As we all know John Ritter, 54, died from an undiagnosed aortic dissection on Sept. 11, 2003 after he experienced chest pain while rehearsing for an episode of his ABC hit comedy 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter. After John's death, his brother was found to be at an increased risk for an aortic dissection and underwent surgery to prevent the dissection. Yasbeck formed the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health after John's death and the John Ritter Research Program at UTHealth was established in 2010. John's youngest son Tyler Ritter will be joined in the race by his wife, actress Lelia Parma, whose grandfather suffers from thoracic aortic disease. "By joining Team Ritter, we hope we can raise awareness that will help in effectively diagnosing and treating the disease at its earliest stages," Ritter said.

Other team members include aortic disease survivors; family or friends of people who have suffered from aortic and other cardiovascular diseases; and medical professionals who treat patients with aortic disease. The following are stories of their very personal journeys to the starting line of the ING New York City Marathon.
Please donate for this very good cause and help do good in the world like John Ritter did and how his name will always do. Watch the "Marathon Morning Across America" broadcast on WABC-7 throughout the NYC tri-state area from 9:00am to 2:00pm ET and on ESPN2 nationally from 9:00am to 12:30pm. A national highlight show will air on all ABC stations from 4:00 to 6:00pm ET/PT. Go Team Ritter!

Fox Surprisingly Orders Full Season of The Mindy Project, More Ben and Kate Episodes; NBC Delays Whitney, Community Premieres

Despite struggling in the ratings for their first two airings, Fox has picked up six additional episodes of Ben and Kate and nine additional episodes of The Mindy Project, bringing both new Tuesday night comedies to full-season orders or close to it, after just two airings. Ben and Kate will get 19 total episodes, while The Mindy Project gets the full 22 episodes. Ben and Kate posted only 3.22 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating for its second episode last Tuesday, down more than 30% from its 2.1 18-49 rating premiere, which wasn't that great. Meanwhile, The Mindy Project posted just 3.68 million and a 1.9 18-49 for its second episode last Tuesday and that was down more than 25% from its 2.4 18-49 rating premiere, which was disappointing.

While this is surprising indeed, it is good to see networks give comedies a chance. NBC gave Go On and The New Normal full season pick-ups last week, and they haven't been that great in the ratings either, especially The New Normal. As for other new sitcoms, things look very bleak for NBC's Animal Practice, while Guys with Kids could go either way depending on how it does in the next few weeks (and if it continues to build solidly out of its lead-in). ABC's The Neighbors has aired twice so far and ABC is mulling ordering three more scripts, so that could be a good sign for more episodes...depending on how it does the next few weeks. New sitcom Malibu Country starring Reba McEntire will premiere on ABC in a few weeks. CBS has struggled with Partners on Monday nights, but in reality it is doing better than what Fox just picked-up, though CBS has a higher standard, especially on a better performing comedy block. I still don't think Partners will get more episodes ordered.

The Mindy Project is a new single-camera comedy from Emmy Award-nominated writer/producer and New York Times best-selling author Mindy Kaling (The Office) that follows a woman who, despite having a successful career, desperately needs to break bad habits in her personal life. A new episode airs tonight at 9:30/8:30c on Fox. Ben and Kate is a new single-camera young ensemble comedy that follows odd-couple siblings as they push each other out of their comfort zones and into real life. A new episode airs tonight at 8:30/7:30c on Fox.

Sticking with network comedy news, NBC has (thankfully) delayed the launch of new seasons of Whitney and Community (a match made in hell). Both comedies were set to move to Fridays starting October 19, airing back-to-back in the 8pm hour. Like we mentioned on our story above, new NBC comedy Animal Practice has struggled on Wednesdays at 8, so NBC might be waiting to see how it does in the next week or two. And if it continues to do poorly, you might see Whitney paired with new fellow multi-camera sitcom Guys with Kids on Wednesday nights. As for Community, it could move back to Thursdays replacing second year comedy Up All Night at 8:30pm, which has done awful so far this season. All of this is premature, but we do know that Whitney and Community will not be launching their new seasons on Friday, Oct. 19. Here is NBC's statement to the press:

Given the success we've had for the past four weeks – including winning the first week of the season in A18-49 – we've decided to continue to concentrate our promotional strength on our new NBC shows that are scheduled Monday through Wednesday and have therefore decided to hold Community and Whitney from their previously announced premieres of October 19. Without having to launch these comedies on Friday at this time, we can keep our promotion focused on earlier in the week -- plus we will have both comedies in our back pocket if we need to make any schedule changes on those nights. When we have a better idea of viewing patterns in the next few weeks, we will announce new season premieres of Whitney and Community.

As of now, NBC will stick with repeats on Fridays at 8pm. The Voice aired last week (Oct. 5) and Grimm is scheduled this Friday (Oct. 12). If NBC does pull Animal Practice and Up All Night from their current spot, perhaps those two comedies will be Friday bound instead of just being pulled? Still too early to speculate, but that could be an option. Or they will just be pulled without being re-scheduled. All we can is, stay with us...

Left home alone with his sister while their parents are stranded across town, Finn's traps catch a new target - a group of thieves (Malcolm McDowell, Debi Mazar and Eddie Steeples) who have targeted Finn's house. Ed Asner co-stars. See how the Home Alone hijinks began with the original Home Alone airing on Saturday, November 24 at 8:00 PM ET/PT.

Week 2 TV Ratings and Analysis; How the Sitcoms Did

2012-13 Week 2 TV Ratings (first four nights, Mon-Thu):

Households: N/A.
Total Viewers: N/A.
Adults 18-49: N/A.

Week 2 (Oct. 1-7) Analysis: We're already into the second week of the all-new TV season and it looks like it will fly by again this season. We don't have the final first four nights averages for week two for you, but we do have final program ratings for these first four nights. So look for that in our analysis and how the sitcoms did below. We can project that through the first four nights, CBS has the lead in all categories but it is very close. ABC is likely in second in HH/viewers and probably third in in 18-49. NBC is probably in third in HH/viewers, but second in 18-49, but that will change after tonight's NFL game and they could take the week. Fox is in fourth in total viewers and likely fourth in 18-49, but it could be very close behind ABC. I expect CBS to take the week in HH/viewers for sure. ABC will likely remain second in HH/viewers, with NBC third and Fox in fourth. Among adults 18-49, we can see some big changes after tonight once again, unless CBS has a huge NFL overrun tonight. More on that later. As for last week, week 1, NBC won the week among adults 18-49 thanks to the NFL game. Fox, CBS and ABC trailed and were two tenths below one another. Among total viewers, CBS took that crown followed by ABC.  NBC was a close third, followed by Fox.

Monday started of week two and it was NBC on top in 18-49 and ABC in total viewers. Starting with ABC, a two-hour Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars did 12.38 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, down four tenths in 18-49 from previous week's season premiere. It has to do better. Competing against The Voice has hurt it. A new episode of Castle followed with a first place 10.35 million but a third place 1.9 18-49 rating, down two tenths in 18-49 from the previous week's season premiere. For NBC, a two-hour The Voice, which is in week 4, did 12.55 million and a night best 4.6 18-49 rating, up two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. At 10pm, week three of Revolution did well for NBC with 8.32 million and a 3.2 18-49 rating, but down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. It's been picked up for a full season. Next up was CBS with its comedies and the slumping Hawaii Five-0. How I Met Your Mother started it off with 8.17 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, down three tenths from previous week's season premiere. Week two of Partners followed with just 5.76 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Not good for a CBS Monday comedy! Then it was 2 Broke Girls at 9pm doing 9.22 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week's season premiere. A little concerning. A new Mike & Molly followed with 8.52 million and a 2.9 18-49 rating, also down two tenths in 18-49 week-to-week. A new Hawaii Five-0 was next doing a third place 7.95 million and a second place 2.0 18-49 rating, up two tenths in 18-49 from previous week's very disappointing season premiere ratings. Fox was next with week three of Bones doing 6.99 million and a 2.3 18-49 rating at 8pm, down two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Then the third episode of The Mob Doctor did only 3.46 million and 1.0 18-49 rating, down three tenths in 18-49 from premiere week. It will likely be pulled VERY soon unless it starts going up, which isn't likely. The CW aired a music festival. Look for season premieres of 90120 and Gossip Girl tomorrow night.

On Tuesday, it was CBS with the victory in both measures for the second straight week. CBS had the always reliable NCIS opening the night off with 18.87 million and a 3.7 18-49 rating, down four tenths in 18-49 from previous week's premiere. Still solid. A new NCIS: Los Angeles was next and did 14.91 million and 3.1 18-49 rating, down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week's premiere. And finally CBS aired week two of new series Vegas and did 12.11 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, down a concerning five tenths in 18-49 from previous week's premiere.  ABC was next with a special Dancing with the Stars All-Stars where we saw defying dances from the all-stars in their previous seasons doing 8.29 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating only. The live Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars: The Results followed with 12.03 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, on par with previous week's two-hour premiere. We sadly said goodbye to Joey Fatone. A new episode of Private Practice followed and did 6.01 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating, which was down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week's season premiere. Should be better I think soon, as the episode was not that strong and saw a drop in the second half. NBC started off solidly with week 4 of The Voice in the 8pm hour doing 8.48 million and a 3.0 18-49 rating, down 1.2 18-49 ratings point from previous week. This episode was a recap episode though. Why a recap already? Makes no sense. New comedy Go On followed with 5.82 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, but it lost to the competing Fox comedy again and down six tenths in 18-49 from previous week thanks to a weaker lead-in. Concerning, but it was picked up for a full season. And week four of The New Normal did 4.5 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, which was down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. Not good. A new Parenthood at 10pm did 4.45 million and a third place 1.6 18-49 rating, down two tenths in 18-49 week-to-week. Will this show call it quits after this season? Fox started it off with the season premiere of Raising Hope at a new time of 8pm doing 3.9 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating, which wasn't too good. Then week two of Ben & Kate followed doing only 3.22 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating, down five tenths in 18-49 from previous week. No matter how you spin it, that's not good news. At 9pm, we had a new New Girl doing 4.99 million and a 2.8 18-49 rating, on par with its previous week 18-49 rating. Low total viewers but still a solid 18-49 rating. Week two of the big disappointment The Mindy Project at 9:30pm did 3.68 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, down five tenths from the previous week's series premiere. Cannot afford to go down anymore. The CW aired the season premiere of Hart of Dixie at 8pm and did 1.53 million and a 0.7 18-49 rating, which was a decent performance. New series Emily Owens MD launches starting Oct. 16 at 9pm.

Wednesday it was very atypical as the first Presidential Debate aired live from 9-11pm ET/6-8pm PT.  That meant we only had one hour of regular series programming. First, CBS started the night off with week three of Survivor: Philippines at 10.38 million and a 3.0 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Veteran dramas Criminal Minds and CSI were preempted. CBS News Campaign 2012 coverage of the first Presidential Debate aired from 9pm-10:33pm ET and did not count in the ratings but it did 10.58 million and a 3.1 18-49 rating. The analysis from 10:33-11pm ET counted in the ratings and did 7.01 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating.  ABC started off with its Comedy Wednesday comedy block with a new episode of The Middle doing 7.72 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, down seven tenths from previous week's one-hour premiere. That is concerning, but the regular line-up did not air at its normal time in all time zones due to the debate. At 8:30pm, The Neighbors moved to its regular timeslot of 8:30pm and did 6.32 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, down big from previous week's special premiere at 9:30pm. Let's wait until this Wednesday to see a better picture, as the big 9pm gun was not on this week.  Yes, at 9pm, Modern Family was preempted as ABC aired ABC News Your Voice Your Vote 2012 coverage of the first Presidential Debate from 9pm-10:32pm and did not count in the ratings but we can tell you it did 11.25 million and a 3.4 18-49 rating. The analysis from 10:32pm-11pm did 8.86 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, which is solid. The season premiere of Suburgatory will premiere Oct. 17 at 9:30pm. The series premiere of Nashville will air this coming Wednesday at 10pm!  Fox aired week four of The X Factor doing 9.71 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating, up a tenth from previous week's two hour episode. Coverage of the first Presidential Debate followed from 9pm-10:33pm but it didn't count in the ratings. We can tell you it did 6.89 million and a 2.9 18-49 rating. Fox's analysis from 10:33-11pm did count in the ratings as it did 5.68 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating. NBC opened the night with a new Animal Practice, which is awful by the way, dropping to 4.56 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, which is down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. At 8:30pm, the news wasn't good either but a tad better with new comedy Guys with Kids doing only 4.76 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating, but it was on par with previous week in 18-49. Law & Order: SVU was preempted and Chicago Fire will premiere this Wednesday, but on this night NBC aired NBC News Decision 2012 coverage of the first Presidential Debate but it didn't count in the ratings. We can tell you it did 11.07 million and a 3.8 18-49 rating. The analysis from 10:33-11pm ET did count in the ratings and did 8.72 million and a 2.8 18-49 rating. The CW had the season premiere of Supernatural at 9pm and did 1.85 million and a 0.8 18-49 rating. Decent start. New series Arrow premieres this Wednesday at 8pm.

Thursday it was CBS with the win for the second straight week, but ABC and Fox had some good options. ABC opened the night with week two of Last Resort doing 8.0 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week's series premiere. Not much of a drop, but needs to do a bit better in 18-49. At 9pm, a new Grey's Anatomy followed with 10.84 million and a 3.8 A18-49 rating, down seven tenths from previous week's big season premiere, but still very strong. Nine seasons and still going strong and still the top drama in 18-49! A new episode of Scandal followed with 6.56 million and a 2.0 18-49 rating, down just a tenth from previous week's solid season premiere. This is a growing series and was very consistent last spring. It could be a solid 10pm option this season. CBS opened with a new The Big Bang Theory at 15.18 million and a 4.9 A18-49 rating, down one tenth in 18-49 from previous week's season premiere. With no Modern Family, #1 comedy and TV series in 18-49 and still #1 in total viewers. Week two of Two and a Half Men on a new night and time followed with 12.33 million and a 3.6 18-49 rating, up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Solid, but no better than Rules of Engagement in the time period. A new episode of Person of Interest followed with 14.58 million and a 3.0 18-49 rating, also up one tenth in 18-49 from previous week's season premiere. Quietly has done well since halfway through last season. Week two of new series Elementary followed and did 11.13 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, down a concerning six tenths in 18-49 from previous week's series premiere. Still it won its time period, but it needs to stay here and not go much more down. Fox aired week four of The X Factor and it was nearly identical to the previous week, doing a solid 9.25 million and a 3.2 18-49 rating. A new Glee followed at 9pm and was pretty low with 6.07 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, but up two tenths in 18-49 from previous week. NBC was in the familiar fourth place with the final season premiere of 30 Rock doing 3.46 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating only, down a tenth in 18-49 from previous week's SNL Election Special in the same time period. Not good. A new Up All Night followed and did only 3.13 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, but on par week-to-week. At 9pm, the very tired The Office did just 4.14 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, but managed to go up a tenth in 18-49 from previous week. Still not good. At 9:30pm, Parks  Recreation closed the comedy block with 3.53 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, up three tenths in 18-49 actually from previous week. Good sign, but still low. NBC aired the whytheheckisthisstillinprimetime Rock Center with Brian Williams at 10pm closing the night with only 3.4 million and a 1.0 18-49, up two tenths in 18-49 week-to-week. Waste of a time period. The CW's big gun Vampire Diaries and new series Beauty & the Beast launch this Thursday.

Now, final numbers for Friday and Saturday are not available, but ABC took the top spot on Friday. ABC won the 8pm hour and the night with week four of Shark Tank, while week two of new series Made In Jersey bombed even more for CBS at 9pm. NBC won 9pm with Grimm over ABC's WWYD, while CBS dropped to second this week at 10pm with Blue Bloods. CBS has a problem at 9pm causing 10pm to go down. Fox had a poor night with a new Fringe trailing NBC and ABC.
Saturday numbers had ABC win the night with Saturday Night Football, just getting by Fox's game. CBS and NBC encores didn't do much.

Tonight are new episodes for ABC Sunday (season premiere of AFV, Once Upon a Time, Revenge and 666 Park Avenue). Look for a solid night and Once will be the top series on the night excluding NFL. NBC should do well with the NFL with Saints and Chargers, which will win them the night and maybe come close to winning the week again. The game won't do as well as previous week, though, so perhaps CBS will take the week. CBS has a new Amazing Race following 60 Minutes, and The Good Wife at 9pm leading into The Mentalist at 10pm. However, CBS has NFL overrun tonight so look for delays. Due to NFL overrun, they will be second tonight. Fox has its animation block from 7-10pm, but no NFL overrun so likely a fourth place finish.

As for the week (week 2), CBS will win in HH, viewers but 18-49 is anyone's game depending on tonight. Can CBS hang on? Or will NBC make a run thanks to NFL tonight? For sure they will be first or second in 18-49. ABC will finish second likely in HH/viewers, followed by NBC and Fox. In 18-49, Fox will likely be third, then ABC. As for the coming week (week 3), look for new series premiere on Wednesday with Nashville on ABC at 10pm and Chicago Fire on NBC at 10. The CW has many season premieres and series premieres like Arrow and Beauty & the Beast. Thursday from 9-11pm ET we have a Vice Presidential Debate that will preempt primetime for two-hours, as the 8pm ET hour will still have new programming...so make a note of that again! Last Resort is still on this Thursday at 8--watch!  We saw episode three and it is amazing! You've been warned!

Week 2 How the Sitcoms Did

Last Sunday Sitcoms (counts for Week 1 -- September 24-30)
  • The Simpsons (Fox) - The season premiere did 8.08 million and a 3.8 18-49 rating following NFL action (except the west coast). Very good but the lead-in sure helped. Without it would have been over a point lower in 18-49.
  • The Cleveland Show (Fox) - Season premiere is tonight.
  • Bob's Burgers (Fox) - The season premiere did 5.46 million and a 2.6 18-49 rating, down a lot from its lead-in. Could be lower tonight without direct NFL impact.
  • Family Guy (Fox) - The season premiere aired at 9 and did 6.55 million and  a 3.3 18-49 rating, which is solid but certainly below normal for this series. Could do better tonight, or perhaps not since there is no national NFL late game leading into prime.
  • American Dad! (Fox) - The season premiere 5.25 million and a 2.5 18-49 rating, the lowest of the block. But it did have better retention than Bob's Burgers.
Monday Sitcoms
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS) - Week two did 8.17 million and a 3.3 18-49 rating, which is down three tenths in 18-49 from the previous week. Looks like last season's big jump will not happen this season.
  • Partners (CBS) - Week two of this freshman sitcom did just 5.76 million a 2.1 18-49 rating, also down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week. If it goes down tomorrow, CBS should be very concerned. Especially if it goes below a 2.0 18-49 rating.
  • 2 Broke Girls (CBS) - 9.22 million and a 3.5 18-49 rating is solid but down two tenths in 18-49 from its season premiere the previous week. Was it too early for this series to be moved to an anchor spot?  I really think it was.
  • Mike & Molly (CBS) - The second episode of the season did 8.52 million and a 2.9 18-49 rating, also down two tenths in 18-49 from the previous week. Look for CBS to be preempted in Houston tomorrow for the NFL Texans/Jets game, so that could really hamper CBS Monday tomorrow night.
Tuesday Sitcoms
  • Raising Hope (Fox) - The season premiere at a new time of 8pm did only 3.9 million and a 1.7 18-49 rating. Not good but not terrible.
  • Ben & Kate (Fox) - Week two of this new comedy did 3.22 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating, down five tenths in 18-49 from its premiere the previous week. Very bad news.
  • New Girl (Fox) - A new episode did 4.99 million and a 2.8 18-49 rating, on par with its season premiere the previous week and easily getting by NBC's competing comedy in 18-49. This is one of the more younger skewing series on the top four networks. Low total viewers but solid 18-49 rating.
  • Go On (NBC) - Week four (well five if you count the special premiere during the Olympics) of this comedy on NBC did 5.82 million and a 2.1 18-49 rating, down a concerning six tenths in 18-49 from the previous week. Not good and continues to go down each week after a great start. Good news is that NBC already picked-up a full season. Will they regret it?
  • The Mindy Project (Fox) - Week two for this new comedy did just 3.68 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, down a half a point in 18-49 and a million total viewers from its premiere the previous week. Very very disappointing for the comedy that was pretty much a given to do well out of New Girl.
  • The New Normal (NBC) - Week four of this comedy lost to the competing new Fox comedy, as this show did 4.5 million and only a 1.7 18-49 rating, down three tenths in 18-49 from previous week.
Wednesday Sitcoms
  • The Middle (ABC) - Week two did 7.72 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, down seven tenths from previous week's one-hour season premiere. Strange, but the night was messed up due to the first Presidential Debate. Look for it to go up this week.
  • Animal Practice (NBC) - Week two in the timeslot did only 4.56 million and a 1.3 18-49 rating, down a tenth in 18-49 from the time period debut the previous week. Joanna Garcia-Swisher deserves a better show.
  • Guys with Kids (NBC) - Week two of this comedy in the timeslot did only 4.76 million and a 1.6 18-49 rating, but it was on par with previous week.
  • Modern Family (ABC) - preempted, and will have not one but two all-new episodes this Wednesday starting at 9pm! Big numbers to come.
  • The Neighbors (ABC) - Week two of this series moved to its regular time of 8:30pm and did 6.32 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, down 1.3 18-49 rating points from the previous week's special premiere. Expected, but it didn't have the Modern Family lead-out as the debate aired at 9. More telling will be this week and I think it will do better than a 1.9 18-49 rating.
  • Suburgatory (ABC) - Season premiere is Oct. 17 at a new time of 9:30!
Thursday Sitcoms
  • The Big Bang Theory (CBS) - Week two did 15.18 million and a 4.9 18-49 rating, down just a tenth in 18-49 from the previous week. With no Modern Family in week two, it will be the #1 TV series for the week.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS) - Week two of this aging comedy did 12.33 million and a 3.6 18-49 rating, but it was up a tenth in 18-49 actually from the previous week. Still, that's no better than what CBS was doing with series like Rules.
  • 30 Rock (NBC) - The season premiere aired at 8pm and did just 3.46 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating. Good thing it is ending this season.
  • Up All Night (NBC) - A new episode did only 3.13 million and a 1.4 18-49 rating, on par with the previous week. Not good though!
  • The Office (NBC) - A new episode of this series did 4.14 million and a 2.2 18-49 rating, up just a tenth in 18-49 from previous week, as no one cares anyone about this show. It has ended at the right time.
  • Parks & Recreation (NBC) - A new episode did 3.53 million and a 1.9 18-49 rating, but it was up three tenths in 18-49 from the previous week. The best performer I think of this NBC block this week.
Friday Sitcoms
  • None.
Saturday Sitcoms
  • None
Airing tonight (Sunday) are new episodes of Fox's animated comedies from 7:30-10PM.

Summing it up. The Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls, How I Met Your Mother, Mike & Molly, Two and  a Half Men, New Girl were impressive for the week. Everything else was OK (such as The Middle, Go On, The Office) or just plain old terrible (such as Animal Practice, Ben & Kate, Up All Night, 30 Rock).

Digital Digest - Big John, Little John - The Complete Series DVD Review; Van Dyke and Company - The Complete Series DVD Review

It's Saturday and you know what that means... so welcome to Digital Digest! We have an incredibly slow week for news this week (and that'll likely continue for a while, since pretty much all of the pre-holiday season releases have been set in stone by now), but nonetheless, we're here with reviews of two very short-lived series from NBC in 1976, with Big John, Little John - The Complete Series and Van Dyke and Company - The Complete Series. Let's get rolling!

DIGITAL NEWS

A few years ago, ABC ran a short-lived animated comedy from Mike Judge called The Goode Family, about a series sort of like King of the Hill, but from a completely different political mindset. Now, according to TVShowsOnDVD.com, it appears that Shout! Factory will be releasing the entire series on DVD on January 8. Not many details are known about this yet, but if we find out anything significant about it, we'll let you know.

Last week, we featured the Warner Archive Facebook page in our Follow Me segment, and this week, we have some insight on another rare series sitting in their library which they are seriously considering... provided that they can get through a few hurdles first. When a fan asked about the series Please Don't Eat the Daisies, this was the response provided:
"A wonderful, oft-requested series we certainly hope to bring to DVD. There are a few episodes in both seasons that have music issues, hopefully they will not be too problematic....and we will definitely need to remaster. Not likely to happen for a bit, as there are other series ahead of it in the clearance and remastering queues, but we hope to get to it sooner than later."
So, we don't exactly have a yes on the set yet, and it looks like we won't be getting one for quite a while... but at the very least, it looks like this series is at least getting consideration, and fans can still hold on to hope for now. Warner Archive also addressed the issue of the second (and final) season of the classic crime drama Harry O. We can report more affirmative news on this release... it actually IS already in the works!

UPCOMING WEEK PREVIEW

Tuesday (October 9) has three releases of note to us. First, Universal has Whitney - Season One (review). CBS finishes up The Lucy Show with The Lucy Show - The Official Sixth and Final Season. We received a review copy of this today and will have a review posted very soon. Finally, Shout! has Webster - 20 Timeless Episodes, with 20 memorable episodes of the series.

Big John, Little John - The Complete Series

DVD Review: Big John, Little John - The Complete Series (VCI/Fabulous Films, $24.99)
by skees53

We've all heard of the "fountain of youth," but most of us don't really believe that there is any such thing. Unfortunately, when junior high school science teacher Big John (Herb Edelman) takes a vacation to Florida with his family, he happens to take a sip from that fountain of youth... and the consequences are that he unexpectedly, usually at the most inconvenient times, morphs into a younger version of himself, Little John (Robbie Rist). The children's comedy series created and produced by Sherwood Schwartz ran on NBC Saturday mornings from September 1976 through December 1976 (and interestingly enough, these were the exact same months that our other series that we are reviewing today, Van Dyke and Company, also ran on NBC in the primetime lineup). The series also features Joyce Bulifant as Marjorie, John's wife.

The series begins with "A Sizeable Problem," where we meet John and find out about his big (or little) problem. In "Peter Panic," Little John gets the role of Peter Pan in a school play... but Big John gets the role of Captain Hook! Marjorie panics when she thinks that Little John has morphed into a baby in "Very Little John." Sandra Gould guest stars. In "The Great Escape," Big John is arrested for not having his license, but big problems erupt when he turns into Little John while in the slammer! Little John tries to prove that there is no such thing as ghosts in "Big Scare, Little Scare," but how will he explain how he disappears and Big John appears while in a haunted house? A costume party at Miss Bottomly's goes all wrong in "Big Shot, Little Shot." Big John is convinced he has found a cure for the fountain of youth in "Time for Change."

Little John has been cursed with Big John's voice in "The Principal Who Came to Dinner." John takes on a bully in "Bully for You." In "Off the Wall," both Big John and Little John get blamed for the same thing at school... and neither one is responsible! John's secret may be up when Little John "runs away" in "The Missing John." John is dealing with a Thanksgiving dance at school in "Speak For Yourself, John." The series ends with "Abracadabra," where a magic trick for Harry turns out more magical than he expected.

The episodes appear to be unedited, with runtimes as follows:

Disc 1:
1. "A Sizeable Problem" (24:27)
2. "Peter Panic" (24:29)
3. "Very Little John" (24:29)
4. "The Great Escape" (24:30)
5. "Big Scare, Little Scare" (24:29)
6. "Big Shot, Little Shot" (24:30)
7. "Time for Change" (24:30)

Disc 2:
8. "The Principal Who Came to Dinner" (24:29)
9. "Bully for You" (24:29)
10. "Off the Wall" (24:28)
11. "The Missing John" (24:30)
12. "Speak for Yourself, John" (24:29)
13. "Abracadabra" (24:28)

The packaging for this set looks exactly as the packaging for the release of this set that was planned a few years ago, with the cover art showing the different faces of John as he morphs from Big John to Little John. We have more of these photos on the back, along with a brief series description. Inside the case, we have episode descriptions, along with airdates and guest stars. The episode descriptions are actually just transcripts from the episodes, as each episode has a narrative talking about what the episode is about at the beginning of the episode (as well as at the end of the previous episode).

The menus on the set are nicely designed with photos from the episodes rotating in the middle of the screen and options of Play All, Episode Selection, and Extras below the photos. The closing theme song plays in the background. The Episode Selection menu lists all of the episodes on the disc in a text format. Once you select an episode, it plays immediately. There are no chapters within the episodes.

The packaging claims that the episodes have been "fully restored," but it really isn't that impressive. The video picture looks dated, and the colors are faded very badly. But it doesn't really make the series unwatchable. I'd say that it looks fine for a series which hasn't been restored (I somewhat dispute that claim...). The audio quality is fine, without any real problems. The episodes are neither closed-captioned nor subtitled.

On the back of the packaging, you'll find an impressive list of special features... but it is really pretty deceptive. The first "special feature" listed is "all 13 episodes," which is a bit of a recursive nightmare if you think of the episodes as being a special feature. Other ones mentioned are episode synopsis (the same ones printed inside the case), series synopsis (same one on the back of the case), and motion menus (should I say anymore about that?). The only real special feature is a stills gallery, which is a gallery of about 10 snapshots from episodes... but other than that, there really aren't any special features here.

It took a long time to see this get released after the previous studio decided to abandon the release, but we're finally getting it now and it is great to see it. Honestly, I kind of liked this series. It is quirky, but it has the typical fun characteristics of other Sherwood Schwartz sitcoms, all the way down to the "series synopsis in the theme song." This was certainly intended to be a children's series, and it is clear that it is just that, but it is also a fun series for people of any age to watch, sort of like the series Small Wonder was in the '80s. If you just want to check out a fun series to watch that is a little different from what you're used to, take a sip from the fountain of youth and join John... both of them!

(4/5 stars)

Van Dyke and Company - The Complete Series

DVD Review: Van Dyke and Company - The Complete Series (MPI, $29.98)
by skees53

Dick Van Dyke has been entertaining us for decades in both film and television, and much of his work is well known, including The Dick Van Dyke Show, Diagnosis Murder, Mary Poppins, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. But some of his less-known work includes a variety series which aired for only eleven episodes (plus one special which aired a year earlier) on NBC during a time where they had very few memorable seasons: 1976. Van Dyke and Company was a less-than-successful attempt by the successful actor to bring the type of series that Carol Burnett turned into magic for CBS, a variety show full of special guest stars including actors, dancers, comedians, and musicians (including some of the big name disco acts of the era)... all surrounded by the legendary actor who brought us Rob Petrie just a little over a decade earlier.

The DVD set contain every episode of the rare series (including the special pilot which aired a year earlier) in one set. Rather than talking about each individual episode, though, we'll just talk about the series as a whole, and those who appeared on it. Unlike other variety series of the era, there wasn't really much of a regular cast for the series... it was just Dick Van Dyke and his guests for the week. However, one other person did appear on nearly all of the episodes as a "special guest star" who is certainly worth considering as a series regular: Andy Kaufman (as Dick says to Hal Linden in the fifth episode of the series, "he thinks he's a regular on my show!"). Each episode had guest stars, which included an incredibly diverse guest cast spanning from the early days of television up through today, such as Lucille Ball, Chevy Chase (fresh off of his first season of SNL), Carol Burnett, Flip Wilson, Harvey Korman, Hal Linden, Gabe Kaplan, and even former co-stars Mary Tyler Moore and Carl Reiner. And the musical guests--and yes, this set does include the original performances--included the hottest performers of the era, such as John Denver, K.C. & The Sunshine Band, Sha Na Na, The Spinners, Bobbie Gentry, Lola Falana, and even Ike and Tina Turner.

Most of the sketches on the series involve a lot of random slapstick comedy with Van Dyke at the center of attention, although there was one regularly appearing "series" of sketches called "The Bright Family," about a family who, well, isn't too bright. Another common feature of the series is sudden interruptions, often fake NBC Sports special reports about the most useless happening in the sports world as soon as something which sounded worth waiting for was about to begin.

I haven't seen any of these episodes before, so I can't say if they are unedited or not. Most run aorund 50 minutes, and I don't doubt that those are unedited, but there are a few which run a few minutes shorter... I honestly couldn't say whether or not those are unedited, but in general, it seems that most of the content is here. The guests, airdates, and runtimes of the episodes are as follows:

Disc 1:
1. Mary Tyler Moore, Carl Reiner, Gabe Kaplan, Ike & Tina Turner - 10/30/75 (50:15)
2. Chevy Chase, Flip Wilson, Andy Kaufman - 09/20/76 (50:27)
3. John Denver, Ile Nastase, Super Dave Osborne, Andy Kaufman - 10/07/96 (50:26)

Disc 2:
4. Carl Reiner, Andy Kaufman - 10/14/76 (50:26)
5. Hal Linden, The Sylvers, Andy Kaufman - 10/28/76 (46:31)
6. Carol Burnett, K.C. & The Sunshine and, Andy Kaufman - 11/11/76 (48:56)

Disc 3:
7. Harvey Korman, Lola Falana - 11/18/76 (49:45)
8. Freddie Prinze, The Spinners, George Foreman, Andy Kaufman - 11/25/76 (49:49)
9. Sid Caesar, Donna Fargo, Andy Kaufman - 12/02/76 (49:49)

Disc 4:
10. Lucille Ball, The Lockers, Andy Kaufman 12/09/76 (46:33)
11. John Byner, Bobbie Gentry, Andy Kaufman - 12/16/76 (49:56)
12. Tommy Smothers, Jim McKay, Sha Na Na, Andy Kaufman - 12/30/76 (48:54)

The set comes packaged in a standard Viva case with nicely designed, but simple packaging. The cover has a photo of a happy and sad Dick Van Dyke with a blue border around him, with the series title above his faces. On the back, we have a brief description of the series, along with a list of guest stars, bonus features, and photos of Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, and "series regular, but not really" Andy Kaufman. Inside the case, you'll find a listing of all of the episodes, along with guest stars and airdates, and several black and white snapshots from the episodes. The disc artwork is very similar to the cover art, with one of the faces of Van Dyke on each disc... the happy one on Discs 1 and 3, and the sad one on Discs 2 and 4.

The menus are very nice and elegant, but also very simple. The main menu has a photo of Dick Van Dyke standing in front of a blue background while the closing theme song plays in the background. Options on the main menu include Play All, a list of episodes, and bonus features on the disc (if any). There is also an option to turn on subtitles here. Chapters are placed throughout each episode.

The video quality on this set is not spectacular, and it is one of the few MPI sets which I've seen released actually having a disclaimer mentioning that it is "as good as it gets." But it really is no surprise, because this was a videotaped series from the mid-'70s that has largely just sat in the vaults since it originally aired. The resolution of the video seems to be the biggest problem, and there are some of the typical video defects, but really it isn't as bad as the disclaimer would make you believe. The audio is a pretty dull sounding mono track, so the musical performances really don't sound that great... but what else would you expect from a musical performance on a TV series from the era? After all, it wasn't until the '80s that we were able to get really decent sounding music tracks on TV series. MPI is always very good about including English subtitles, and we have them here for each episode.

There aren't a whole lot of special features on here, but there are a few. Of course, since this is an MPI release and since Dick Van Dyke was a big star in the '60s, it should come as no surprise that there are more segments from the Let's Talk to Lucy radio series where Lucy talks to Dick Van Dyke, from March 3, 1965 (10:06) and March 4, 1965 (9:30). "Dick Van Dyke Special Highlights" (13:28) gives us a few highlights from a special somewhat similar to the idea of this series that he did almost a decade earlier in 1968. His guests on here include two people very close to him: Carl Reiner and Jerry Van Dyke

I think it is fair to say that this was certainly not Dick Van Dyke's most memorable work, and is a bizarre blending of the comedy sketches of The Carol Burnett Show (albeit in much shorter form) and all of the latest disco acts of the era, many of which (though not all) have faded from the memories of everybody. It seems like they didn't know where to really go with this series, as it began in an era where the variety shows like The Carol Burnett Show were really ending (which, ironically, Van Dyke would briefly go on to become a cast member of a few months after this series ended). And I can't say that it is a particularly great series, but it is certainly a piece of television history worth taking a look into, and on top of that, MPI (as always) bundled it in to a nice DVD release.

Claim to Fame: John "J.D." Dorian from the sitcom Scrubs
Why You Should Follow Him: These days, if you are a celebrity at any level, you use Facebook or Twitter to some extent to promote your current projects. It is just something that every actor does. But long before it became the "cool thing" to do, Zach Braff was out there on Facebook (you can see that page here, though a recent posting explains why he posts less on there now) and became one of the pioneers of using social networking to not only communicate to his fans, but at times communicate with his fans. You'll also notice in his Tweets that he is, in real life, a lot like his character from Scrubs, and his Tweets are certainly fun to read. And in the days when Scrubs was still on the air, he was always there keeping us updated on the fate of the series in those final few seasons, where every season we were left wondering if the final episode had just aired.

ABC Family Orders 4th Season of Pretty Little Liars; Sitcom Stars on Talk Shows (Week of October 8, 2012)

ABC Family announced that the network has picked up a fourth season of its hit original series Pretty Little Liars. The all new season will consist of 24 one-hour episodes that will start to air in summer 2013. But before that, we have still have the second half season three left! Pretty Little Liars will air a special Halloween-themed episode on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 8:00PM ET/PT, as part of the network's "13 Nights of Halloween" programming event, and then will return with the rest of season three in January 2013. A return date for January has not been announced yet, so stay tuned for that. It will likely be Mondays at 8, like it normally is in winter/spring.

ABC Family's #1 series of all time, Pretty Little Liars ranked as cable TV's #1 series of summer 2012 in viewers 12-34 (2.6 million/2.8 rating) and Females 12-34 (2.2 million/5.0 rating), the #1 scripted basic cable TV series in Women 18-34 (1.2 million/3.7 rating) and the #1 series in Female Teens (1.0 million/8.6 rating). In its time period, "Pretty Little Liars" was easily the #1 cable TV show on Tuesdays at 8 o'clock throughout the season across target 18-34, 1849 and 12-34 demos. The August 28 mid-season finale exploded social media sites across America, breaking the show's own previous records, generating more than 709,000 tweets, peaking at an impressive 36,000 tweets per minute. With an all-day catch-up marathon and finale, Pretty Little Liars generated 1.9 million tweets, including more than 1.2 million between 8:00 and 10:00 pm. Moreover, according to SocialGuide, Pretty Little Liars became the #1 "most social" TV series episode in history, breaking records with over 1.6 million comments.

Pretty Little Liars fans have been able to fill the void left when the show went off the air in August with ABCFamily.com's new webisode series Pretty Dirty Secrets. The webisode series has been a tremendous hit with fans, vastly exceeding any short-form video series ever done on ABCFamily.com. The debut alone garnered over half a million views in 24 hours.
In the special Halloween-themed episode, entitled "This Is a Dark Ride" and airs Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 8PM ET/PT, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer are looking forward to some good old Halloween fun now that the traumatic events with Nate are behind them. But once aboard the Rosewood Ghost Train, the girls are in for much more than just some childish trick or treats. With "A" running amuck and unexpected party-goers popping up at every turn, this Halloween event becomes one killer party. Musical guest star Adam Lambert performs his songs "Trespassing" and "Cuckoo," from his latest album "Trespassing," during the Halloween festivities.

Brady Bunch Comes to Hallmark Channel in January 2013; Adult Swim Orders New Seasons of Childrens Hospital, NTSF:SD:SUV::

Here's a story! The Hallmark Channel has acquired the rights to the classic '70s ABC sitcom The Brady Bunch. The timeless comedy will premiere on the network in January, 2013. Currently the series is airing on cable on INSP every weekday at 12 noon & 12:30pm and also on digital broadcast on The MeTV Network every Sunday from 11am-1pm. And NickMom airs the original series What Was Carol Brady Thinking? every weeknight in the NickMom block on Nick Jr. It's basically episodes of The Brady Bunch with pop-up comments from Carol Brady. Find out what she was really thinking! As for the Hallmark Channel, we don't have a premiere date and time just yet but we can expect it in January after Hallmark Channel's annual Christmas programming is over. In fact, holiday movies will start taking over the schedule beginning in early November. You'll see shows like I Love Lucy, Golden Girls, and Cheers take a break for about two months before they come back in January, similar to last year.

The series starred Florence Henderson, Robert Reed, Barry Williams, Maureen McCormick, Christopher Knight, Eve Plumb, Mike Lookinland, Susan Olsen and Ann B. Davis. It is the story of a lovely lady who one day meets this fellow -- and we all know how they became The Brady Bunch! At a time when other sitcoms were depicting the loosening of social norms, The Brady Bunch revived the wholesome values found in television's infancy with such shows as Leave It to Beaver. The Brady's blended family unit provides the foundation for comic misadventure as they deal with usually humorous dilemmas related to sibling drama and coming-to-age issues. Stay with us for further information on the Brady's coming to Hallmark Channel! The Heart of TV indeed!

Adult Swim announced it has picked up the hilarious fifteen minute live-action comedies Childrens Hospital, the Emmy(R)-winning series created by Rob Corddry, and NTSF:SD:SUV::, created by Paul Scheer (The League), for an additional season of each. All-new episodes continue to air Thursday nights at midnight and 12:15 a.m. (ET/PT), respectively, on Adult Swim. Season five of Childrens Hospital and season three of NTSF:SD:SUV:: will premiere in 2013.
Childrens Hospital explores the emotional struggles and sexual politics of a group of doctors charged with healthy libidos. Their dedication to their personal lives is relentless, interrupted only by the occasional need to treat sick children. The show's creative team is led by Rob Corddry and fellow executive producers/writers Jonathan Stern and David Wain. Among the stars are Erinn Hayes, Henry Winkler, Ken Marino, Lake Bell, Malin Akerman, Megan Mullally, Rob Corddry and Rob Huebel.
NTSF:SD:SUV::, (AKA National Terrorist Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle::) follows a group of reckless, aggressive and pun wielding government agents who work hard to protect San Diego from numerous terrorist threats such as a killer dolphin, Swedish virtual reality gangs, and a time traveling Leonardo DaVinci. Out of all the acronym-ed police procedurals that dominate the airwaves, this show has most acronyms. It was created by Paul Scheer. The series stars Paul Scheer, Rebecca Romijn, Rob Riggle, Kate Mulgrew, Brandon Johnson, June Diane Raphael, Martin Starr, and Peter Sarafinowicz.

NBC Picks Up Full Seasons of Go On, New Normal, Revolution; Cast of Guys with Kids, Jimmy Fallon Present History of TV Theme Songs

NBC has picked up three of its new fall series - the adventure-drama Revolution and the comedies Go On and The New Normal -- for full-season commitments for the rest of the 2012-13 season. While we are only in week two of the new season, all three of these series started earlier on NBC and are already a few weeks in (three for Revolution and five for the comedies). All three will at least get the back nine now, for a total of 22 episodes each. More episodes could be ordered still, so stay tuned. In Go On, Matthew Perry (Friends, Mr. Sunshine) stars as Ryan King, a recent widower and sports talk radio host ready to get back to work after the loss of his wife... but Ryan's alpha-male boss, Steven (John Cho), has a different plan in store for Ryan, making him attend grief counseling before returning to the air. Lauren Graham (NBC's Parenthood) will guest-star in an upcoming episode of Go On as Ryan King's old college friend and his former radio talk show co-host. An airdate for Graham's episode will be announced later. Multiple Emmy Award winner Bob Costas from NBC Sports and Chris Bosh from the NBA's world champion Miami Heat also will appear as themselves in additional episodes.

On The New Normal, these days, families come in all forms - single dads, double moms, sperm donors, egg donors, one-night-stand donors... It's 2012 and anything goes. Bryan (Andrew Rannells) and David (Justin Bartha) are a Los Angeles couple and they have it all. Well, almost. With successful careers and a committed, loving partnership, there is one thing that this couple is missing: a baby. And just when they think the stars will never align, enter Goldie (Georgia King), an extraordinary young woman with a checkered past. A midwestern waitress and single mother looking to escape her dead-end life and small-minded grandmother (Emmy and Tony Award winner Ellen Barkin), Goldie decides to change everything and move to L.A. with her precocious eight year-old daughter. Desperate and broke - but also fertile - Goldie quickly becomes the guys' surrogate and quite possibly the girl of their dreams. Surrogate mother, surrogate family. And finally on Revolution, what would you do without it all? In this epic adventure from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions and Supernatural's Eric Kripke, a family struggles to reunite in an American landscape where every single piece of technology -- computers, planes, cars, phones, even lights -- has mysteriously blacked out forever. A drama with sweeping scope and intimate focus, Revolution is also about family -- both the family you're born into and the family you choose. This is a swashbuckling journey of hope and rebirth seen through the eyes of one strong-willed young woman, Charlie Matheson (Tracy Spiridakos), and her brother Danny (Graham Rogers). When Danny is kidnapped by militia leaders for a darker purpose, Charlie must reconnect with her estranged uncle, Miles (Billy Burke), a former U.S. Marine living a reclusive life. Together, with a rogue band of survivors, they set out to rescue Danny, overthrow the militia, and ultimately re-establish the United States of America. All the while, they explore the enduring mystery of why the power failed, and if -- or how -- it will ever return.

Finally, in case you missed it last week when we broke on Twitter, the men from the new sitcom Guys with Kids performed a "History of TV Theme Songs" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Why? TV sitcoms don't have theme songs these days so Fallon made sure Guys with Kids had one and he himself sings the theme song! Fallon of course also is the executive producer of the sitcom. As a tribute to some of the great TV theme songs of all-time, they decided to sing them! From The Jeffersons, to All in the Family to Three's Company to Cheers and to even Sanford & Son, we see Jimmy Fallon, Anthony Anderson, Jesse Bradford and Zach Cregger sing these classic tunes. Watch the full clip below!
Guys with Kids airs Wednesdays on NBC and comes from the aforementioned Emmy winner and executive producer Jimmy Fallon. It's about three thirty-something dads trying to hold on to their youth, while holding onto their new babies' hands. Easy, right? Thankfully, Chris (Jesse Bradford), Nick (Zach Cregger) and Gary (Anthony Anderson) have each other to help navigate their survival as new dads, while still trying desperately to remain dudes. Balancing work or staying at home, painfully married or happily divorced, they know that taking care of the little ones while maintaining a social life is a daily challenge. Whether it's hosing the little squirt down in the kitchen sink or hitting the bar strapped with a baby björn, these guys are on a roller-coaster adventure - parenting like you (and they) have never seen before. Also starring are Jamie Lynn Sigler and Tempestt Bledsoe (The Cosby Show). There is one thing missing from this medley the cast performed...The Cosby Show. I could imagine Fallon or Anderson acting like Cosby. Anyway, watch the video below as this sitcom is currently struggling in the ratings and its future is up in the air to get a full season. Stay with us if we get any news on its fate.

OWN Developing Two Tyler Perry Scripted Series; Seth MacFarlane to Host the Oscars in 2013

Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) has announced an exclusive partnership with Tyler Perry, the award winning actor, director, screenwriter, playwright and producer, to become his singular destination for all-new television series and projects, including two new scripted series for the network to premiere in mid-2013. These will be the first original scripted series for OWN and Perry will executive produce, write and direct both series. Perry's popular television series Tyler Perry's House of Payne, Meet the Browns and For Better or Worse have been massive hits with record-breaking ratings on cable. Perry had his first foray into television in 2007 with the hit series House of Payne, which premiered as cable's biggest comedy debut ever. The series remained basic cable's top-rated sitcom only until the premiere of Perry's second series Meet the Browns.

Stay with us for further updates on these two scripted series projects. Most likely they will be sitcoms, so that's good news! Does this new deal mean that OWN will have library rights to House of Payne or Meet the Browns? We're not sure yet, but it is possible. Stay tuned...

Seth MacFarlane

Acclaimed comedian and brilliant writer Seth MacFarlane will host The 85th Annual Academy Awards(R), telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have announced. This will be MacFarlane's first appearance on Oscar's stage. The 85th Annual Academy Awards will be broadcast live on Oscar(R) Sunday on February 24, 2013 on ABC. MacFarlane made his feature directorial debut this summer with the box office success Ted. He also co-wrote and produced the film, and voiced the title character. Ted has brought in over $420 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing films of the year.

Of course, MacFarlane is the creative force behind the television animated comedy Family Guy and co-creator of American Dad! and The Cleveland Show. In September he hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time, for the show's 38th season premiere. An accomplished live performer, he has played to sold-out audiences at London's Royal Albert Hall and New York's Carnegie Hall. In 2011 MacFarlane released his debut album, "Music Is Better than Words," which earned two Grammy(R) nominations. He also has earned 13 Emmy(R) nominations and won two for his work on Family Guy.

The Munsters and The Addams Family Return to Boomerang For October; New Sabrina, the Teenage Witch Animated Series Coming to The Hub in Summer 2013

For the second straight year, Boomerang will bring us two classic sitcoms all October long! Boomerang is bewitched this October with a line-up of spooky episodes and specials themed around everyone's favorite haunted celebration. Spotlighting the month-long Halloween festivities, Boomerang will feature spooktacular blocks of The Funky Phantom, Goober and the Ghost Chasers, What's New, Scooby-Doo?, The Munsters (live-action series, 1964-66) and The Addams Family (animated, 1992-95, as well as live-action series, 1964-66) on weekdays from 2pm-5:30pm ET/PT and again from 9pm-12am ET/PT. On weekends, the network is offering a bag full of treats with classic series and specials, including The Halloween Tree, The Flintstones Meet Rockula and Frankenstone and Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf from 11am-2pm ET/PT and 10pm-12am ET/PT.

The Munsters comically depicted the "average" American home life of a close-knit blue-collar family - of monsters - that were based on the classic monsters of Universal Studios, including Frankenstein, Count Dracula, The Werewolf and The Bride of Dracula. Presented in black-and-white, the half-hour series starred Fred Gwynne as Herman Munster; Yvonne De Carlo as his wife, Lily; Al Lewis as Grandpa; Butch Patrick as Eddie; and Beverly Owen/Pat Priest as Marilyn, the "ugly niece" who resembled Marilyn Monroe. The show featured satirical situations where the lovable Munsters interacted as normal, good citizens with an unsuspecting public, who were terrified solely by their appearance. The Munsters premiered on CBS Television on Sept. 24, 1964, and played for two full seasons (70 episodes) that concluded on May 12, 1966. The Munsters will air all month weekdays at 5pm ET/PT starting TODAY.
Based on Charles Addams' New Yorker comics, The Addams Family featured a much more well-to-do family of creepy characters that generally stayed within their eerie yet palatial mansion. Also shot in black-and-white and immortalized by a catchy, snappy theme-song, The Addams Family starred John Astin as Gomez Addams; Carolyn Jones as his wife, Morticia; Jackie Coogan as Uncle Fester; Ted Cassidy as the butler, Lurch; Blossom Rock as Grandmama Addams; and Lisa Loring and Ken Weatherwax, respectively, as the Addams' children, Wednesday and Pugsley. The series' humor derives from a culture clash with the rest of the world - the Addams treat normal visitors (often arriving with evil intentions) with great warmth and courtesy, but are puzzled by the horrified reactions to their "ordinary" behavior and tastes. The Addams Family premiered on ABC Television on Sept. 18, 1964, and presented 64 episodes that concluded on April 8, 1966. The live-action sitcom will air weekdays at 4:30pm ET/PT and 10:30pm ET/PT starting TODAY.
In the animated series, the Addams are not your typical family: they take delight in most of the things that "normal" people would be terrified of. Gomez Adams is an extremely wealthy man, and is able to indulge his wife Morticia's every desire - be it cultivation of poisonous plants, or a candlelit dinner in a graveyard. People visiting the Addams family just don't seem to appreciate the 7 foot tall butler "Lurch" or the helping hand (which is just a disembodied hand" named "Thing"). The animated The Addams Family will air weekdays at 4pm ET/PT and 10pm ET/PT starting TODAY.

Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch

The Hub has announced that an all-new original animated series, Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch, will premiere in the summer of 2013. The series will feature the iconic teen character re-imagined for a new generation. Actress Ashley Tisdale, who starred in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and the High School Musical film series, will provide the voice for Sabrina.

In the upcoming series Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch, Sabrina is half-witch and half-human, and all super hero as she leads two vastly different lives; one disguised as a normal, klutzy high school student and the other as the top sorcery student in the magical world. When her two worlds collide, Sabrina is the only one who has the power to battle her foes, while managing to keep her magical identity a secret from humankind.

The Hub currently airs the live-action 1996-2003 sitcom on Sunday nights (early Monday mornings) at 3:00am & 3:30am. Two other animated series, Sabrina: The Animated Series and Sabrina's Secret Life, have previously aired on CBS's Cookie Jar TV.
